    Q:
    I just cleaned all ink colors with an Epson cleaning kit. When I run the printer, all I get is wet paper and no ink appears on the paper.
    A:
    After the cleaning there is still some cleaning fluid remaining in the print head, that is whay You get wet paper when printing after cleaning. It is the best way to print out this remaining nozzle cleaner - please use old paper to do these test prints. According to Your printer model it may take many print to get out the cleaner, but this way the waste ink pad in Your printer is not polluted unneccessarily.

    An excellent concise tutorial on how to get the job done. Others have posted longer videos but natter on and on without adding new information. Allowing an air bubble in the syringe is an great tip not mentioned elsewhere that may save you from de-laminating the cartridge carrier components due to applying too much pressure.
    Robb Muffet did have an additional tip in that for very dried up print heads, (shelved for weeks, months or years), just leave short pieces of tubing with cleaning fluid on each color and let sit for 12 - 48 hours. The fluid level in the tubing will drop a bit after the dried ink has softened up. Then you can use a syringe to withdraw the dried ink, as well as gently cycle the cleaning fluid as shown in this, (Octopus Concept's), video. You want to push some ink through to the paper towel but not so much that it saturates the 'waste ink pads' underneath. (Printer may stop working if there is a 'waste ink' sensor that says the pads are full. Use a dry paper towel to soak up fluid on the 'waste ink' pads.)

      Excellent feedback! Thank You!
      Time is the key to get a heavy dried up print head back to life - let the cleaning fluid work on it for quite while?
      We prefer to push the cleaner plus the waste ink through the print head out of its nozzles as we can avoid to have air inside the print head´s ink chambers. To be on the safe side we use beside a piece of foil material under the absorbent towel. This prevents the mix of cleaner and inks to flow into further parts in Your printer.

    • @GordonRaboud
      @GordonRaboud 6 лет назад +1

      Ah, yes, air inside the print head's ink chambers would likely create other problems, such as having to run several of the printer's "cleaning cycles" to push enough ink through to flush out the air bubble. Thanks for mentioning that.

    Hey guys! Whoever is not having the cleaning liquid, you can make your own and it works like a charm.
    Mix 5ml of 100% alcohol with 5ml of water and use it the same way thats shown in the video. After you've pushed the liquid throught the head to the towel print a few prints untill the new ink gets into the head and clears the colors and its all going to be allright!

    This product worked like a charm, but at least with me, there was a struggle cleaning 3 heads, that had a cartdrige installed for a year. At first, I pumped several times each head, without any result, but then, I made another attempt, applying more pressure in each head, and only doing that I was able to solve it.

      Thanks for sharing Your experience with applying this method to Your printer. Increasing the pressuer is a bit a walk on the edge as there is the danger that the pressure lifts off the nozzle plate from the cartridge compartment - luckily it did not came out this way in Your case.

    Struggling with my 7620. Nozzle check indicated issues with all colours inc. Blk so cleaned head. No significant improvement so used the nozzle cleaning fluid. Flushed all the nozzles and there was a slight improvement but not enough to be able to print. Had seen a warning about not cleaning head too many times in one day or it could make matters worse so left it overnight. Ran another nozzle check this morning and swapped out the cyan cartridge as it was running low. All colours affected with breaks or no ink at all so ran another head clean and then checked.Black ok, magenta ok-ish but yellow and cyan missing. Repeated with little improvement so followed your instructions again and used the fluid to flush through the nozzles. The tissue for the first time showed all the separate colours so ink is getting through but when I did the nozzle check again it was even worse! Black is broken lines, yellow missing and cyan and magenta very patchy. When I ran a test print on Monday, yellow and magenta were working but streaky. Should i just force through lots of test prints to try and get the ink flowing? This is my second 7620 as the same thing happened within warranty and Epson replaced it. i've had this one about two years and really can't afford to replace it but i need it for my business. Any advice?

    • @octopusoffice
      @octopusoffice  4 года назад

      Hello Kath, thanks for Your clear description. After flushing the print head there always remains some cleaner inside. Usually it takes some time to get the cleaner out and get the prints back to normal. So in Your situation I would recommend to run test prints (on old / used paper) and see if the print outs improve.
      Beside that there is the question if You are printing with original Epson cartridges or alternative cartridges? In case of the second option it might help to switch to a different brand if the issue occurs when using this specific brand of cartridges.

    • @octopusoffice
      @octopusoffice  5 лет назад

      Thanks for the question. If the test print is fine the head should be free and no nozzles should be clogged. What kind of inks are You printing with: original Epson cartridges - cartridges by an alternative supplier - refillable cartridges filled with alternative inks? The banding and streaking indicates that the ink cannot flow sufficiently for the prints that You trying to make - in case You are working with alternative supplies it might by that the physical characteristics of the inks do not meet the needs of the printer despite not clogging the print head. Have You tried to increase the setting of the print quality?

    Having a hard time clearing my Epson 1430. I’ve used the syringe method before with success but this time the clog doesn’t want to clear. I’m afraid of applying too much pressure and tbh it’s happened before and made a mess. Any suggestions and also how would I know if I damaged my printhead from applying to my pressure?

    • @octopusoffice
      @octopusoffice  4 года назад

      Hello Raimo, thanks for Your question. Applying too much pressure can result in that nozzle plate, which is laminated onto the print head compartment, is deattached from the print head. Then the print head will be lost. The mess that You are describing happens when the tube is slipping off the ink port, right?
      If the clooging is not going away there might be some solidified pollution inside the print head - in that case we recommend to let the cleaner sit in the tube on the ink port for as long as possible. Either it unclogges the blocking or this color line will be lost anyway ....

    • @octopusoffice
      @octopusoffice  3 года назад

      Hello Lina, thanks for Your question. The SX218 is a really old printer model - really good quality. So for Your issue there could be multiple causes.
      As You say that You have not used the machine for a long time we assume that print head is dried in completely. There is also the chance that the ink remaining inside the print head has solidified - that´s a serious blocking then. The only chance to get rid of that is to let suitable print head cleaner taking its effect on such a clogging - that can take really long time. In that case building up pressure by flsuhing or paumping does not really support the process. The cleaner must be water based and is not alowed to have any minerals inside.
      Beside that it is also possible that other obstacles are connected with the printer - the whole system is againg over the time and the materials the printer is made off are not going to be better.

    • @octopusoffice
      @octopusoffice  4 года назад +1

      @RodDayZ Thanks for contacting us about the Epson cleaning. After cleaning the Epson print head our way there remains cleaning fluid inside the print head - You need to print that cleaner out - sometimes it may take quite a number of prints to get the colors back to normal. We suggest to use old paper to do these test prints.
      As You mention that Your printer has been sitting unused for a few years we assume that you are working with a new set of cartridges or with new refill inks, right? After the years the old inks have changed their physical characteristics and will not work in Your printer properly anymore.
      When You have a new set of bottled refill inks at Your hands available You can flush the ink lines using the inks - that way you can also push out the remaining cleaner - that way is faster than printing the cleaning fluid out.

    • @octopusoffice
      @octopusoffice  4 года назад +1

      Thanks for Your question. Our cleaner is a based on our formula for waterbased desktop printer inks - so the cleaner is basically a colorless ink. You need to have water in the nozzle cleaning fluid to be able to dissolve cloggings and pollutions as the the inks in the Epson desktop printers are water based inks. You can use isopropanol but it will not dissolve the cloggings. Best to use is purified and demineralized water if You are able to get Your hands on such material.

    • @octopusoffice
      @octopusoffice  5 лет назад

      Thanks for Your question. You can use any kind of alcohol but its cleaning effect will not be the best for the Epson print head. The inks in there are waterbased inks and if they are dried or cloogged alcohol does not dissolve them. Therefore the used cleaner should be water based too to have the best effect. But alcohol is doing no harm to the print head :)

      Hello Bruna, thanks for Your question. Your printer used the Epson 79 cartridges, which sit in a campartment inside the printer and are connected to the print head by ink lines. There You have the opportunity to clean the print head from the outside. To do so You start a print job and pull the electrical plug as soon as the print head starts to move. On Your printer You have a lid at the front or the top throough which You can access the print head´s working area. You can move the print head from side to side and slide a piece of plastic foil plus a piece of kitchen towel soaked with print head cleaner under the print head. You can do the cleaning by swiping the print head over the kitchen towel or / and let the print head sit on the towel for some minutes.

    Stergios
    I followed exactly the directions as they are described in the video. After many hours I have exactly the same problem with other guys : many-many blank pages.
    I have put again the catridges but I have no ink point on the paper I have put under the nozzles (is the power supply needed or not during waiting for the ink drop?)
    I don't think that I pushed with much pressure on the nozzles, but I am not sure about pressing air.
    Do you thing that I have to wait a long time more? Do you think that it should be better if I was tryibg to print one page to 1000 copies automatically?
    Wait for your experienced opinion.
    Thankd in advance.

      Hello Stergios, thank you very much for Your question and detailed description. If you are not sure about air beeing inside the print head: best solution is to flush the print head with cleaner again to make sure that the air is out. Air bubbles prevent the new ink getting from the cartridges to the nozzles.
      After that You set back the cartridges and start printing 100 plus copies of a print using all 4 colors - this way You waste ink pad does not get polluted for nothing. Start printing is the fastest way to get the inks back on the paper - even if it takes a high number of prints - save on paper and use old paper to do these test prints.
      Best regards
      Octopus

      Thank you very much for your support & your interest, I will follow your suggestion in the afternoon, when I will be back at home.
      But I am wondering if it is normal that no color comes on the paper. Is there air inside each head? I can't beleive that, although I prefer that to be true...
      Anyway, thanks once more...
      I will give you a feedback later in the afternoon.

      Hello Stergios, in our tests we have cleaned all colors - so our assumption is based on that. And in that case it is possible that there is air in each color cannel. Especially if You let the print head sit on an absorbend underlay without any cartridge set in.
      The Epson print heads are quite stubborn but luckily also quite durable - so if there is no damage to the print head before cleaing it - it will come back to life but it might need some work.

    • @asterisg5473
      @asterisg5473 5 лет назад

      Unfortunately I could not print anything else than many-many (more than 200) blank pages. I followed again the described procedure flushing the cleaner in all the nozzles, I think that I took care about avoiding press air in the nozzles but the result remained the same.
      When I press the cleaner in the nozzles I can see the color spots on the paper under the heads. But when I put again the cartridges inside and let it for 2-3 hours, no color spot on the paper, and the ink level doesn't decrease at all.
      What makes me impressed is that the paper under the heads remain completely dry when I have the cartridges inside, although you have answered to another guy that we should wait color spots on the paper after some hours.
      Do you think that I have to follow the cleaning procedure many times instead of printing a copy 200 times?
      Or do you have any other idea? Thanks in advance

    • @octopusoffice
      @octopusoffice  6 лет назад

      Hello fesocan, we would suggest the following approach to get the right ink color back to the print head´s nozzles:
      1. empty all the tanks are good as possible
      2. fill the right ink color into the tank, that has been filled with the wrong color before
      3. install an absorbent pad under the print head´s nozzle plate - that could be a folded paper kitchen towel on a layer of plastic foil
      4. the absorbent pad sucks out the the ink from the print head and the connected tubes
      5. the right ink color replaces the wrong ink in the tubes and the print head as it is sucked into the absorbent pad (emptying the other colors before safes these valuable inks as the are not sucked into the pad for no reason?
      Why not to push the ink into the tubes? Most of the Epson printers, whose print head is connected by tubes to the ink source - in your case the external tanks , an one way valve at the print head prevents pressure from the ink tank having effect on the print head. So the only way is to suck the ink in from the nozzle side.
      We hope that helps....

      Hello Chris, we are sending our greetings to Houston! The message that You are describing should refer to the ink cartridge´s ink level status. After flushing the print head with cleaner You need to get ink back into the ink system. We recommend to do this by printing test prints on used paper. This consumes ink from the cartridge. Seems to us that You need a new cartridge. (?)

      Thank you very much for Your description. With our Epson Workforce 3620 we had have to print 100 test pages before the colors came back.
      It might be the case that there is air trapped inside the print head. Take out the cartridges and flush the print head with cleaner again - make sure not to push any air into the print head. The print head should be free from air by now. Then set back the cartridges into the printer and position it above the absobent underlay. This should get rid of the cleaner and move the ink towards the nozzles.

After flushing there remains cleaner inside the flushed ink line - best way to get it out is to run draft prints on od paper. In Your case with the color black i would recommend to open a word document with black test and print it doubled sided on old paper - start a 100 pages print job which might take quite a while to print - in between You can take a look on the prints: Has the black come back?

      Hello Valeska, thanks for Your question. Based on Your description we assume that there is still cleaning fluid inside the print head after applying our cleaning approach. It is important to get that cleaner out of the printer´s ink system to get the color back to appearing normal.
      You can do so by printing on old (already used) paper - this way spares the waste ink tank / sponge inside the printer from getting filled up unnecessarily.
      In Your case the sublimation inks can also have an influence on the cleaning result - what type of cleaner have You used? The sublimation inks can consist of different ingredients - some inks are waterbased and others are based in alcohol - according to the formula of the inks You need to use a matching cleaner fluid...

      Hello Matt, thank you for asking. After using the cleaning method from the video, there is still print head cleaner in the print head - it has to come out again. The best way to do this is to start a print job with 100 pages - on paper that has already been used (the test prints are really for the wastebasket) - and then the colors will gradually return. When printing, you look again and again how the result looks and then decide to continue printing, to cancel the print when the colors match again or to start a new print job if the 100 pages are not enough. The advantage of printing out is that the printer's residual ink sponge is not unnecessarily burdened.

The ammonia version is not necessary as Epson prints with "cold" piezo print heads - ammonia works in "hot" thermal print heads. When we talk about a Espon desktop sized printer its iks are usually waterbased inks - so any type alcohol does not have a dissolving effect on these inks.

    • @octopusoffice

      Hello James, thank you very much for contacting us and providing this helpful description. Replacing the black cartridfe twice after cleanining means that it has been emptied twice? There is the question if these two cartridges have been really empty, meaning ink going through the print head, or the empty message appeared by the chip calculating that the cartridge must be empty due to its use in the printer (independend from if there was actual ink leaving this cartridge). We assume that there is air remaining in the print head in the black color line, it prevents the new ink reaching the nozzles. Best way to get rid off this is to flush the black color line with cleaner again - make sure not to press any air into the print head. After that go back to print out the cleaner.

      Hello Jack, thanks for Your question. How does the inlet for the ink inside the print head compartment look like in Your Epson Artisan 835 machine? Is it similar to the thorn version shown in our tutorial? If this is the case You can flush the print head with cleaner to get out the air in the way as shown in our video. This saves the expensive ink from the cartridges as You could also run print head cleaning sessions from Your printer directly until the air is out. Usually this consumes a lot of ink and fills up your printer´s the waste ink compartment unneccessarily.

      Hello Michele, thanks for Your description. There are 3 possible reasons for Your situation:
      1. There is still cleaning fluid inside the print head. Just keep on printing to print out the cleaning fluid. The color should come back to normal slowly.
      2. There might be air beeing trapped inside the print head. During claening it happens very often that air is pressed into the print head. Then the printer does not print. Flush again making sure that there is no air in the print head. After that print out the remaining fluid.
      3. Worst case would be that print head has a damage at the black ink line. This cannot be fixed by cleaning :(

      There is still cleaner liquid in the print head - first You need to get this cleaner out. As the cleaner is some sort of colorless ink You can print it out until the normal inks come back. You also can place the print head on an absorbent underlay again and let that underlay suck the cleaner out of the print head while the ink cartridges are installed. When the normal inks have reached the nozzles again You can see their colors on the absorbent underlay.

      Hello Justin, printing blank means that there is still cleaber fluid inside the print head - assuming that the print head is still intact. It can take quite a number of test prints before all coolorts come back and the print outs are back to normal. We recommend to run test prints on used paper until the prints are acceptable again - this way You are not wasting new paper.

    • @octopusoffice
      @octopusoffice  4 года назад +1

      Thanks for providing these further details. 300 test prints should have made a difference. Second cause could be that there is air in the print head - it happens that during the cleaning air is pressed into the ink chambers in the print head or it enters them from below when pumping the syringe: You can get rod off this air by either again pressing cleaner from the syringe into the print head or pressing in refill ink - in case You have bottled refill ink available. Both ensures that the new connection between new ink in the cartridge towards the nozzles in the nozzle plate can be made.
