Brother I have to thank you greatly! I did this with your exact method, needle tap & all. Im not printing perfect yet but notice the cleaning process is slowly making it better. Great video! This fixed my Magenta which has not been working for 2 months. My Brother MFC-J4510DW printer has larger ports from the cartridges, so rather than a needle, I took an old Target children's medicine syringe, drilled out the tip with a 7/64" drill bit, and it was a perfect fit around the outside of the ink ports.
Thanks for the video. I will try to prepare your cleaning solution formula. I was using pure windex (with amonia), but still not able to unclog one of the colors. By the way, what I noticed is that, after the printhead is clogged, it's almost impossible to clean it perfectly. I searched many videos on youtube, and no one was able to show a perfectly unclogged printhead. At least the printer will be useful to print text, but it will no longer do a good job printing photos (because of the white lines that still remain).
@@IONHowTo Why do you suggest to mix the cleaning solution with a little bit of ink? That part I was not able to understand. Since the syringe will suck the ink from the printhead, wouldn't that ink be enough to mix with the solution?
At first, mixing it in the container just to see if the ink gets dissolved and doesn’t become gel-like. When inserting the syringe, was mostly to confirm a good seal around the syringe. If it draws ink when pulling and not many air get inside the syringe, we have a good seal. When pushing the cleaner, it goes in the tube and not everywhere on the desk. Also it looks pretty. 😂
11:25 My HP Printer had the same paper-pickup issue caused by a cracked gear. I used epoxy glue to repair it and it's holding for maybe 5 years now. Printer is about 10 years old now. It's really a shame that companies don't do more to prevent failures like that and/or provide spare parts. They'd rather see you buy a new printer than prevent unnecessary waste.
Please could you tell me the video number to watch for a R3000 Epson stylus photo. My black is clogged but it has a box with inks in and it doesn't move so can't do this method. Any help I would really appreciate.
Help! So I have done many print head cleanings on a used Brother MFC-J485DW I just got. I put in new ink cartridges. Yet still zero ink goes onto the pages. I can see ink is coming out of the print head. Is there a different setting or adjustment I can make to lower the print head or raise the paper?? Do you have an idea of what is happening? Thank you in advance
If you're sure ink comes out from the cartridge to the print head, keep printing a few times and do a few cleaning cycles for the fresh ink to reach the print head. If you followed the video, this is normal. Needs to clear the cleaning fluid eventually.
This is the biggest problem for inkjet printers, especially the Brother printers made before the chips. The basic general idea is great except most "cleaning kits" don't really fit the ink ports. People shoot the cleaning solution in and most of it doesn't enter the ink port but falls inside the printer case. Solve this problem and you're half way to success. Your idea using the needle is a good one. Also some medicine syringes come with a tapered plastic point which could fit some ports.

Hi! Can we use any glass cleaner? I'm asking this because some other glass cleaners may have ingredients that is not suitable for this procedure. Thank you!
Dragos Ion, Thank you for a great video. (Brother mfc-475dw) It is my yellow that is not working for me. I tilted my printer up because it was stuck and notice all the fluid i inserted is now leaking out the bottom which is a yellow orange color. Could this mean maybe the yellow tube is no lnger connected. and all the fluid is now in the bottom of my printer, I've tried all your tricks and still no yellow on the paper towel or fluid. Should I buy a new printer? :(
@@IONHowTo Well I took it apart and found there was a hole in the backside where i was putting the fluid in, it wasn't going through the tube at all. So yes time for a new printer. :( But thanks for quick reply and great video.
In newer brother printers you should use syringe with tube like in 2:10, fill syringe with solution, put the tube on the ink supply pin, and slowly push the solution to printhead. With brother printers that work with LC900 ink cartridges, like MFC-215C on the video, I think you should be more careful, because foil under the cartridges is very fragile, and it often comes off, what makes ink leak out to inside of the printer
We understand that there are small data cables to each ink cartridge and if one becomes disconnected, the color won't print. How do we get to the cables on our Brother MFC 665CW? We cleaned it manually but it still won't print black.
If it has ink tanks like shown, yes. You just have to find a way to make a seal when injecting the cleaning solution. A piece of rubber hose for a fish tank usually is ok or kits made for your model especially.
@@IONHowTo I did do nozzle cleaning a few times last night, and then again this morning. The printer is now not printing, it was only a cyan color problem originally?
Sounds strange, maybe water got to electronics. It sounds like that. Try to remove any fluid you see in the printer. As much as you can. Remove cartridges and wipe them and the slots they go into. If it's still no, be ready to buy a new printer.
Very inspiring! I have an old HP printer number of cartridges - 22, color cartridges, completely dry. I soaked them for 12 hours, first in distilled water, then in a mixture of water and alcohol. After the sponges and the inside of the containers have been soaked and the casing glued together, the time has come for tests: only 1 of them prints perfectly, in the others there is no one of the colors: yellow in one, red in another, blue and yellow in another. I tried to vacuum inject the ink, then extract air, blow from the top, as if the ink flows out a little and the printout is practically zero, does this mean damage to the head or maybe one chamber is still dry? I also tested soaking inside the glass cleaner - the liquid was both inside and outside.
This video ruclips.net/video/-C_qq1R1uho/видео.html Is for that type of cartridge. Doing it might destroy them completely so it's a last option before new cartridges
You could try ethanol maybe but it needs to be just ethanol and water, no solvents. IPA is easier to find without solvents. You could just not use the ipa, just distilled water and window cleaner. Start with 50/50 and increase the concentration if it’s still not open. It doesn’t really need to be measured precisely.
@@IONHowTo I have a lot of ink in a refill bottle. Brother actually says just inject 4mi of distilled water to the head! under how do I clean heads here www.brotherprintersupportpro.us/blog/fix-brother-printer-wont-print-black/
@@IONHowTo I think the mixing ingredients are a problem here, maybe alcohol beverage can be found and windolene, window cleaner... Can we suggest replacements?
@@remmysimpemba9717 that is for when the print head is part of the cartridge. Printers that have a separate print head like yours are cleaned this way.
You don’t really need to start with drawing ink could start by pushing a bit of cleaner in there. For some that’s how I started, it doesn’t really matter. It’s important to push and pull the mix thru the head to flush it better and open it. It’s better than just pushing the solution all the way thru. Also doing it multiple times with breaks in between helps to disolve the dried ink further. Don’t put too much pressure to avoid leaks or damage in the ink tubes.
Thank yu dear.. ur vedio is very helpfull.. But i would like to know how to locate n replce, clean waste ink absorbant tank for Brother mfc6510dw maney maney thanks for ur help
Unclogging my little integrated cartridges, I have to remove all the ink, then insert distilled water, let soak, then remove with a syringe again and repeat. The sludge is unbelieveable that you have to get through.
Didn't do a precise measure :) Would try a light solution first with less alcohol and if it doesn't do it, try the stronger mix. Estimates because I didn't actually measure them: Light 10-20% isopropyl alcohol, I used 99% and put about 10% but if you use 70 just put more. 80-90% distilled water. Stronger, this worked best for me: 20-30% isopropyl alcohol 99% pure 80-90% W5 Lidl window cleaner. No water :) And a lot of patience.
It makes sense that the printhead is separate from the ink cartridge (unlike HP where the printhead was part of the cartridge.) I just installed new high capacity Color cartridges, and a normal capacity Black cartridge. It took 3 cleaning cycles to for the test-print to come out good. Those Cleaning cycles consumed 75-percent of the Black ink, and 33-percent of the Color Ink. This makes me reflect on the decision to get the Brother MFC-J690DW. I would not buy it again. But now I know to look for printers where the cartridge is also the print-head.
Not a good idea. Most hand sanitizer had additives that leave residue. We have service calls where we just have to use pure IPA to clean the film left from hand sanitizer
Could also be any connector that might have been moved slightly. Check the wiring around the areas you touched. Especially check electrical wiring and any connector on the print head. Maybe it's just a connector that got loose or even disconnected.
Did you know the key active ingredient in most glass cleaners is ....wait for it ......isopropyl alchohol, yes. My point being you might as well just use neat isopropyl alchohol.

If it has ink tanks like shown, yes. You just have to find a way to make a seal when injecting the cleaning solution. A piece of rubber hose for a fish tank usually is ok or kits made for your model especially.
I followed the directions on the video the unclog one color print nozzle. Now none of my ink colors are printing. Help!
Run few nozzle cleaning cycles, ink should come out eventually.

Is for that type of cartridge.
Doing it might destroy them completely so it's a last option before new cartridges
@@IONHowTo Thanks a lot for Your quick reply! I will see the movie and try to do something. Regards! 😀
Very good explanations!!!
Brilliant video, thank you! 👍😊
Are there any alteratives for isopropyl ? Can I use methanol or ethanol ?
You could try ethanol maybe but it needs to be just ethanol and water, no solvents.
IPA is easier to find without solvents.
You could just not use the ipa, just distilled water and window cleaner.
Start with 50/50 and increase the concentration if it’s still not open.
It doesn’t really need to be measured precisely.
Dragos Ion I see .., I'll be trying that out 👍 thank you so much
Dragos Ion, hello! You didn't list the HP printer: will this procedure work on HP brand printers? Thank you!
Works on HP that have separate ink tanks for each color like epson and canon
@@IONHowTo thank you for answering me. This is my sign of a great person, who cates about his viewers 🥰💝
Thank you! This really helped me!!!
Exactly what I'm looking for 👍
Thanks for watching!
Can you just add alcohol to the ink and run the cleaning mode and flush out the clog that way?
You waste ink that way but yeah you could
@@IONHowTo I have a lot of ink in a refill bottle. Brother actually says just inject 4mi of distilled water to the head! under how do I clean heads here www.brotherprintersupportpro.us/blog/fix-brother-printer-wont-print-black/
Thank you so much !!! I needed this
I tried it but I don't know why I'm having a jammed paper problem, any help please
Wrong vid this is about ink find a paper jam video
@@teenola5783 the thing is when I tried THIS method I got the jammed paper problem, although there were no papers, it's solved now
Thanks a lot for this video ! I'm gona fix my Epson RX425 that way, cause I'm sure your method will work fine ! Thks !
Liked your video on unclogging CATRIDGES, any ideas on how to unclog canon G4411 print head?
Pretty much the same way just see how to pump the fluid thru. There are kits for this with fluid and adaptor hoses and syringes.
@@IONHowTo I think the mixing ingredients are a problem here, maybe alcohol beverage can be found and windolene, window cleaner... Can we suggest replacements?
Or is it possible to split the cartridge like you did in the other video and clean with water?
I mean if these ingredients are scarce here?
@@remmysimpemba9717 that is for when the print head is part of the cartridge. Printers that have a separate print head like yours are cleaned this way.
You don’t really need to start with drawing ink could start by pushing a bit of cleaner in there.
For some that’s how I started, it doesn’t really matter.
It’s important to push and pull the mix thru the head to flush it better and open it.
It’s better than just pushing the solution all the way thru.
Also doing it multiple times with breaks in between helps to disolve the dried ink further.
Don’t put too much pressure to avoid leaks or damage in the ink tubes.
please make brother t300 head cleanning video
I'm sorry, I don't have that printer model
Thank yu dear.. ur vedio is very helpfull..
But i would like to know how to locate n replce, clean waste ink absorbant tank for Brother mfc6510dw maney maney thanks for ur help
Don’t know about that specifically. 😕
Unclogging my little integrated cartridges, I have to remove all the ink, then insert distilled water, let soak, then remove with a syringe again and repeat. The sludge is unbelieveable that you have to get through.
good stuff! Learned a lot!
What size gauge do you use for the syringe?
Can i ise normal water fro tap
You could but it could block some of the tiny nozzles. Mineral deposits could do that. If water is really hard in your area, don't do it.
Im using uv dye ink can i use this formula
@@rakenrol44 put a drop of ink in the solution and see if it dissolves. If yes, use it as usual.
I like the uv ink idea!
Thanks man. What is the solution mix quantities ?
Didn't do a precise measure :) Would try a light solution first with less alcohol and if it doesn't do it, try the stronger mix.
Estimates because I didn't actually measure them:
Light
10-20% isopropyl alcohol, I used 99% and put about 10% but if you use 70 just put more.
80-90% distilled water.
Stronger, this worked best for me:
20-30% isopropyl alcohol 99% pure
80-90% W5 Lidl window cleaner.
No water :)
And a lot of patience.
I´m gonna try to clean my yellow... thanks.
thank u friend........................
Thank you so much. Subscribed!
Thanks for this video
thanks
great thanks
Thank you.
I used hand sanitizer to clear my yellow ink today 😹
Not a good idea. Most hand sanitizer had additives that leave residue. We have service calls where we just have to use pure IPA to clean the film left from hand sanitizer
לצערי הרב הבנתי המוצר הגיע אלי אחרי הרבה מאוד שמן. ולא לא עזר כלל עם מהירות האינטרנט
לא הבנתי מה עשית ומה הקשר למהירות האינטרנט
You forgot to show how one accesses the printer head to add the paper towel... Brother MFC-J280W... thanks.
Don't see any fluid in printer
These are usually not worth taking for repair if the electronics are gone.
You could let it sit few days and see later.
Could also be any connector that might have been moved slightly. Check the wiring around the areas you touched. Especially check electrical wiring and any connector on the print head.
Maybe it's just a connector that got loose or even disconnected.
Hydrogen peroxide and dawn soap
This printer is tooooo older model
It still works nicely :)
BIG THUMBS UP.
My inkshit printers blocked. Thanks for the video
Did you know the key active ingredient in most glass cleaners is ....wait for it ......isopropyl alchohol, yes. My point being you might as well just use neat isopropyl alchohol.
Actually ammonia is the key active ingredient in most glass cleaners, and alcohol+ammonia is the best combination for breaking up dried ink.
is it my ear ... i just heard ink shit printer
Dupa accent am crezut ca esti rus.
I would never buy a brother printer because I hate my brother. I wouldn't even go to his funeral if he died.
