Ah Selena, she was going to be the biggest star in the music industry, fashion industry, and film industry. She fought for everything she had all the way down to the man she loved. Her husband, Chris, wrote a book titled "To Selena with Love" talking about their love story and the reality of their marriage. All these years later he still loves her and misses her every day. Fun fact, the scene in the living room when he's auditioning, the closeup on his hands were the real Chris Perez's hands. The scene when Selena went to Chris's hotel room telling him they should get married at that moment really happened. Her own father didn't know that's how the elope idea went about he thought it was Chris's idea the whole time but when he saw the scene being filmed he asked the director who told them this and he said "We spoke to Chris." It was one of the few stories Chris was willing to share at the time because losing Selena made him so protective of his memories of her and he didn't want to contribute as much to the story, but he did become friends with Jon Seda, who played him, and they are still friends to this day. Jennifer Lopez learned about Selena and Chris's relationship through Jon because she wanted to respect Chris's boundaries because she didn't want to cause him more pain by sitting in front of him dressed and looking like Selena to ask him questions about her. Also Chris still has the truck Selena gave him for their first wedding anniversary. Selena was and is still is so loved. In Corpus Christi there are a lot of murals of her on the sides of buildings. Her family has a museum dedicated to her that has her clothes, toys from when she was a kid, and even her car.
To this day I can’t listen to “Dreaming of You” without sobbing. Selena was one of the most beautiful souls on this earth and she was taken far too soon. I feel so much for Chris. He lost his soulmate. Also the dad’s speech about needing to be more Mexican than Mexicans and more American than Americans is so true. Growing up I was made fun of for speaking Spanish. So I only learned English but lost my Spanish. Then as an adult I’m teased by family for not speaking so great in Spanish. It’s tough for sure.

The ending of this movie always hits me so hard, and makes me break down in tears. Even watching you react to it had me in tears! But yes, this was based on a true story of her life. In early 1995, Selena's family discovered that Saldívar had been embezzling money from both the fan club and boutiques, which led to her firing in the first week of March.[On the morning of March 31, Selena agreed to meet Saldívar at a Days Inn motel in Corpus Christi to retrieve financial records Saldívar had been refusing to turn over. Saldívar delayed the handover by claiming she had been raped in Mexico. Selena drove Saldívar to a local hospital, where they were told that the gynecological exam was to be done elsewhere, because the assault had allegedly happened in another country. They returned to the motel, where Selena once more demanded the records. Saldívar then took a .38 Taurus Model 85 revolver from her purse and pointed it at the singer. Selena tried to flee, but Saldívar shot her once in the back, severing an artery. Critically wounded, Selena ran towards the lobby for help with Saldívar in pursuit calling her a "bitch". Selena collapsed on the floor as the clerk called 911. She later died in a hospital from blood loss at 1:05 pm.😢

Selena was going to be somebody! She had it all! She had the voice, she had the looks, she had the moves and she had the charm! Chris blamed himself for what happened even though it wasn't his fault. In case you don't know, Jennifer Lopez isn't singing at all! She was lip syncing to Selena Another thing that was sad though was that Selena never got to sing her English song's live. She was murdered before she even had the chance.

I was 14 when Selena died. She had so much promise... she had JUST crossed over to the American scene, shortly before she died. I'm pretty sure her actual English-language album hadn't even been released, at that time. It was released posthumously, a couple months later. I had a piece of her clothing line, when I was younger, unfortunately, it was lost across several moves. She was... SO loved by the Latin community, and broke down barriers for women in Tejano music, traditionally considered a male-dominated genre. She was known as the "Queen of Tejano." Had she continued living, she would've taken the world. She was SO talented, and SO bright, and SO beautiful in so many ways... she'd have dominated in the fashion and music world. The world became a little dimmer with her loss. I tried so hard not to cry, when I met Edward James Olmos (who played her dad, in this movie), but I did end up misting, some, when we talked about the "Selena" movie, and the importance of representation of our people. She was a cultural icon, and the we all were robbed of her. Thank you for reacting to "Selena."

This was my mom's favorite movie. Whenever it was on, she would keep it on. She absolutely loved it. She loved Selena's voice. What did u think of J Lo's performance? I went to college freshman year w a big Selena fan & she didn't like the fact that she was cast. Ur take?
Even if you don't understand Spanish, her performances are still worth checking out. She had unbelievable charisma, stage presence, confidence, and talent. She was going to be HUGE. She was only 23 and she had already won a Grammy, had multiple nominations, and was called the Queen of Tejano music. Her dream of crossing over into the American pop scene was finally coming true. She was planning on opening boutiques in Mexico and LA. She had so much promise. 😢
My parents even my dad are fans of Selena, I have never heard about her until in 2020 when I saw the statue of her and I have seen the movie as well. 😢 Selena will never be forgotten.
"Dreaming of You" is such a beautiful, beautiful song.. I still get sad when I hear it to this day too bc I relate it to the tragic end of this movie & the tragic end of life of this gorgeous soul of a human being. So glad you got to experience this, Nick, like so many of us already have.. I hate that you had no idea about the loss of her life & had to find out like this, but I'm so glad you got to experience the beauty that is this film & that was the super-talented & beautiful icon Selena Quintanilla-Perez.. Rest in Paradise, Selena. You were taken far, far too soon..❤

Fun fact, the songs at the very beginning of the movie were not Selena's songs, she used to sing a disco meledy which was a bunch of covers she sang from other artists. But all the other songs in the movie were hers!
I clicked on this as soon as I saw it pop up! but then when I realized you had no idea who Selena was or what was in store for her, I knew this was gonna be an emotional watch for both of us. I was a huge fan of Selena when she was alive and I even had her Spanish language album and her English crossover album when I was in middle school. I would listen to her music all the time and when the news of her death hit, I was absolutely devastated. I remember not even wanting to believe it was real at first and then just being completely wrecked for weeks after that, listening to her music alone in my room. thanks so much for reacting to this amazing film that celebrates the life of an absolute icon, taken from us far too soon. ❤
I grew up in a Tejano family in West Texas. And Selena's music was in my home and our road trips throughout my childhood. And they still appear on my playlist even now as a football coach in East Texas. I still remember the day she died. I was only 5 years old, but I remember how somber that day was, especially for my older sister. Love your reaction to this great American singer. Happy more people are experiencing her music.
Hi Nick. I'm really glad you enjoyed this movie. Being raised in a mexican american home I grew up listening to Selena. Thank you for watching a film so close to many of our hearts. My heart broke for you when you saw the ending. Selena still lives on through her music and the fans she continues to inspire :)
I grew up to her music. I went to one of her concerts when I was like 4. They day we all found out that she had been murdered I remember the whole world came to a pause because she was loved my so many 🌹 ❤ her music is still being played & acknowledged till this day, there’s even a statue in her remembrance in Corpus Cristi Tx . She was robbed of her amazing life that she had worked so hard for 😢 ❤ may she rest in peace.
I was beyond ecstatic when this popped up on Patreon. I’m so happy that you, even from just watching the movie, could see that Selena was such a humble individual, yet such an icon. Just like you, I first watched the movie blind, only knowing it was a true story, and the ending absolutely ruined me. I always wanted you specifically to react to this gem of a movie, and I was not let down.
I’m one of those people who for a long while I didn’t know she died, yet alone was murdered. I found out maybe 3-4 years ago. Her death happened before I was born, and as a child I kept hearing her music and seeing her picture so I just assumed she’s alive and still being a musician, so I fully understand the shell shock of finding out what happened and *HOW* it happened. That’s so unfortunate because she truly seemed like a beautiful person inside and out- like what a real princess is made of.
@@twist58it was her dad that picked out the name “Selena” since SG dad is mexican and he was a huge fan of SQP so he picked out the name “Selena” because of SQP
I was around a year old when she died. My dad told me that he was devastated on hearing the news and seeing the standoff on live tv. I would listen to her music as a kid but never knew she died until I saw this film and I couldn’t believe it. Then my mom explained the situation to me and man it’s such a shame. Like your reactions as always 😊
I was 4 when Selena passed away, so I didn't know who she was until I got older. I first heard her music in Spanish classes at the Middlebury Spanish Language School. Been a fan ever since. She had a significant impact on the music industry. She is often credited for bringing Tejano (Texas-Mexican) music into the mainstream market. I can imagine Selena would have been high up in the music industry if she were still alive today. At the 63rd Grammy Awards, Selena Quintanilla Perez received a posthumous Life Achievement Award. How her life ended is so sad and senseless because I think about her and wonder what she could have done if she were still here. Selena was really destined for stardom. She could've been as big as Lady Gaga, Madonna, or Beyoncé. Selena paved the way for many of our artists today to get to where they are. I would definitely go to her concerts if she were still here today. Selena was taken way too soon, so young. No hay nadie como Selena. ¡La reina de la música tejana! Que sigas descansando en paz, Selena. 💜
Likewise. I was that age too when the tragic news was mentioned. Though I never did watch the news, it brought the attention of my folks back then and they were saddened to hear where they were when it was announced.
My mom had actually seen Yolanda in prison, she had to give her prison clothes while she was being transferred to different prisons here in Texas. I remember her telling me that she had seen her, transfered like in secret cause well lots of people would end up killing her. My mom was in prison around 2001 to I think 06. My name rhymes with Selena so this movie always gets me crying everytime I watch it.
Selena was successfully bridging the divide between Americans, Mexicans and Mexican-Americans through her songs. She was a talent that I’m sure would have done so much more in bringing peace to its listeners. She had so much going for her, her death is one of the most tragic cases for sure.
As soon as I saw that you were watching Selena and you said you knew nothing about this movie, my heart instantly went out to you. I'm glad you enjoyed the movie tho. Wonderful, authentic reaction.❤
Yolanda is literally the most hated woman to so many many people She still denies ever shooting her as she sits in prison to this day If she ever gets out I think it will be very bad for her
My sister and I grew up ADORING her and still do. Ironically, this is my first time watching this all the way through. I've only seen the ending. Now it hurts even more. Thank you for reacting to this queen's story❤💔
I've been trying to get other channels to react to this amazing movie! Selena is a cultural ICon. Her story should be known. She's a genuine legend in Latin/American music history ! my mom has been a fan of hers since the 80s! my sisters had the SELENA barbie dolls from the 90s. My mom was completely devastated when she was killed in 95' she had to leave work because she couldn’t stop crying the day it happened ! i was only four , but this movie has been a staple in our household for the past 27 years and still never gets old!! love SELENA have her vinyls as well!
I always loved this movie and cried over the loss of such a magnetic artist and person but the older I get, the harder the loss hits me. Now I cry even harder for the family's loss as someone who they trusted and befriended betrayed them in such a terrible way. Selena had so much life ahead of her and was snatched away so cruelly. May she rest in peace and may Yolanda be tortured until the end of her days
I’m a recent viewer of the channel. Your reactions are so powerful. I love that you are comfortable being so vulnerable with your audience. It’s truly beautiful to witness. thank you!
I went to a Middle School that was predominantly Mexican American when Selena popular. The end that depict the many candlelight vigils, is almost exactly how I remember it. It was such an incredibly sad week.
I'm sobbing with you like I haven't seen this a thousand times 😅. As a kid my mom kept a newspaper clipping from when she passed away. I live in texas and even after all these years when her music comes on you can feel the energy shift in the room and every body starts singing along no matter what race they are! She was amazing ❤️

Thank you for reminding me about it and Selena again because she was taken from the world far too soon and we should absolutely keep her music alive in her honour.
It's nice to see u react to this film, Nick. Just a couple of bits of trivia for u, since I grew up watching this film. 1. This film makes Selena's Dad, Abraham look WAY better than he was in real life. He intervened a lot with the script. He actually lobbied to have the scene where Selena and Chris elope cut because he thought it'd influence other couples to run away and get married. 2. The bus scene where Abraham fires Chris was actually much worse in real life. He actually called Chris "A cancer in my family." 3. The scene where Selena let's the kids onstage is actually true. There's video on RUclips of her letting kids dance during her show, she always encouraged it. 4. Even though the film gives off the impression Abraham didn't want Chris to be with Selena, because he thought it'd "mess up his family." Selena's sister Suzy was already married and had kids, while Chris and Selena were together. The reason Abraham didn't want Selena and Chris together was merely because he thought her image would be tarnished by being with a heavy metal guitarist. It was never about being trying to keep his family together, he just thought it'd effect her image.
You made me cry watching your reaction. You were so excited for Selena and I could tell you had no idea what was about to come 😭 I was a senior in high school when she died. It was so sad !!!
Selena and her family were involved with her band. Her brother, Abie, her sister Suzette, her husband Chris, her mom Marcella and her dad Abraham. Also, I'd love to see you react to Stand And Deliver with Lou Diamond Phillips and Edward James Olmos
Your reaction is so genuine and pure Selena means a lot to the Mexican American community she truly was a super star with a big heart who just wanted to love and be loved ❤️ RIP SELENA
Hey Nick I'm glad you saw the amazing Selena movie. It made me cry too when I first saw it. Just to note, that medley they played at the beginning were not Selena's original songs. That was a disco medley cover of many artists. You can find this actual performance from the real Selena on RUclips if you want to see her sing. She did have plenty of great original songs, but that opening wasn't one of them. 🙂

She was singing Donna Summer in the beginning. Somebody she admired, Beyonce admires Donna too. ❤ RIP Selena! You’ll never be forgotten!
Oh man, this is one of my favorite movies, period. But that ending with the actual footage of the real Selena gets me every time! She was an icon. 😢
Hey Nick! I'm glad you chose Selena
You should watch La Bamba (1987)
A biopic about a young Mexican-American Chicano rock and roll star named Richie Valens.
Awwww NICK MY BRO!! Ur one of the kindest souls on youtube….i was like ohhh nooo….he doesnt know she dies 😭😭😭 this is gonna hit him hard. KEEP BEING U BROTHA
One of my favorite songs from Selena are “Como La Flor”, “Amor Prohibido”, “Dreaming of You”, and “No Me Queda Mas”.
Same ❤
❤
No Me Queda Más is a gem 💎
If you like “no me queda mas” ranchera style, you’d love “Siempre hace frio” and “gods child(baila conmigo) with David Byrne. That one isn’t ranchera but it’s very different, acoustic style
Fun fact, the songs at the very beginning of the movie were not Selena's songs, she used to sing a disco meledy which was a bunch of covers she sang from other artists. But all the other songs in the movie were hers!
I’m so happy you reacted to this! But I knew when he was crying the first 20 minutes in that he was NOT going to be okay 🥺💔 RIP Selena🕊️
Her house is a museum now, too
She died at such a young age and was the total package she was singer ,dancer ,fashion designer and started acting as well .she was loved by everyone
Selena Gomez was named in honor of Selena & she embrasses wholeheartedly. The Selena series on netflix was well done too
I heard that it was her mom who personally chose the name for her.
Selena Gomez for born years before Selena’s death,Gomez parents chose the name simply because they’re fans.
Do you mean she embraces it?
omg I though you wrote embarrasses and I was gonna say BOTH SELENAS ARE NATIONAL TREASURES! id love to hear sellers Gomez's version of bidi bidi
Everyone cries at the end of this movie I’m not ashamed to say I cried my eyes out
I was 8 years old when this tragedy happened . She was such a great soul and artist. May she rest in paradise
Likewise. I was that age too when the tragic news was mentioned. Though I never did watch the news, it brought the attention of my folks back then and they were saddened to hear where they were when it was announced.
@@twist58 I feel the whole country stopped for a day or two in a sense
My cousin told me that when she first saw the movie in theaters and it was over, everyone was coming out of the theater crying.
Yep I haven’t gotten to that part yet but seeing he knew nothing and was already crying early on i was like oh no this is gonna be tough
I watched the movie when I was 7, it made me proud of my Mexican heritage. Thank you for reacting tp this, definitely listen to her songs!
Yolanda is literally the most hated woman to so many many people
She still denies ever shooting her as she sits in prison to this day
If she ever gets out I think it will be very bad for her
I watched this in Spanish class, and my god did that ending catch me off-guard.
Same
My sister and I grew up ADORING her and still do. Ironically, this is my first time watching this all the way through. I've only seen the ending. Now it hurts even more. Thank you for reacting to this queen's story❤💔
I watched this for the first time a few months ago, I'm really surprised it isn't trending in the movie reaction community.
@@JulianoHuerta Thank you for sharing.
It’s truly beautiful to witness. thank you!
This is my favorite childhood movie. When I was very little, I cried at the end, too. I really love selena.❤❤ she will always be a lovely star ever ❤.
I remember watching this movie in my high school Spanish class. The death scene truly shocked me, and when I saw this reaction, I ended up crying with you, Nick. ! I hope you are doing better now
Your empathy is so strong and admirable
OMG this is a surprise. I'm a huge fan of the movie and the singer herself Selena and J.LO as herself 😍. God rest her soul 🙏 1971-1995 💔
NICK!! hello!! selena is one of my idols and since i'm half latino, i grew up with her life story and music (and more specifically, this movie). so glad that you're reacting to it!
I'm crying with you, bruh. I still remember when she passed.
I've been wishing and waiting for you to watch this! I loooved your reaction to this. This movie on its own is such a beautiful movie but also it did such a good job honoring her. ❤️
The sad thing is Yolanda who went to jail she’s eligible for release from prison in March next year …fuck me if they let her out the amount of people who would be that pissed off is crazy
This movie will ALWAYS make me cry omg😭😓
Selena was iconic. It still hurts that she’s gone. She paved the way for so many female artists. Miss you Selena.❤️
I'm crying with you Nick. I saw this in school and it's the first time I've heard of Selena. I could not get this movie out of my head. She had a beautiful voice and soul and its so sad what happened
This is absolutely a true story and was JLO first breakout role this is what made her known I believe. It’s also a heartbreaking story and a reminder of the power we lost when the world lost Selena 💔
I remember hearing about Selena but I never knew who she really was until years later. Then I watched this movie recently and was so moved by how much her community truly loved and honored her
I had forgotten about this incredible movie. When I saw that you reacted I knew it was going to be a tear jerker for both of us. I finally was able to watch and I am so glad that you loved this film. Thank you for reminding me about it and Selena again because she was taken from the world far too soon and we should absolutely keep her music alive in her honour.
OMG!!! So happy u reacted to this. My favorite movie
He actually called Chris "A cancer in my family."
3. The scene where Selena let's the kids onstage is actually true. There's video on RUclips of her letting kids dance during her show, she always encouraged it.
4. Even though the film gives off the impression Abraham didn't want Chris to be with Selena, because he thought it'd "mess up his family."
Selena's sister Suzy was already married and had kids, while Chris and Selena were together. The reason Abraham didn't want Selena and Chris together was merely because he thought her image would be tarnished by being with a heavy metal guitarist. It was never about being trying to keep his family together, he just thought it'd effect her image.
Don’t apologize 😢 it’s ok to cry we all miss her 🤎
"I will survive is a song by" Gloria Gaynor, selena did a cover of it amazingly at that. Her and Demi lavatos cover of this song is so good!
You made me cry watching your reaction. You were so excited for Selena and I could tell you had no idea what was about to come 😭
I was a senior in high school when she died. It was so sad !!!
I listen to her songs on her birthday. She has a couple of nicknames “La Reina de Tex-Mex”, “Queen of Tejano Music”, and “Tejano Madonna”
There's a freestyle/dance artist named Buffy who released a beautiful song for Selena called "I Miss You" which I think you would love.
Great reaction as always! I hope you can also react to "Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds" which is the 3rd highest grossing film in South Korean cinema history.
I love this movie so much! I’m happy you got to watch this!
I saw this movie years ago! It hit me so hard with emotions!
I was 5 years old when I first watch Selena, I'm now 30 and still cry for joy or cry in the end like everyone else. What a joyful person
I don't know if you noticed because of your tears but at the end of the movie the last few scenes were real video and photos of Selena.
Most of us had no clue of her until this. I will NEVER forget the news, seeing those 2 girls walking down the street crying as “a Tejano singer” is mourned💔💔👊🏿👊🏿👊🏿👊🏿👊🏿👊🏿
I remember listening to Selena's songs when I was a kid, I loved to sing and I used to sing them all the time and do my hair like hers. During my childhoow I enjoyed her music wiithout knowing she was dead (I was born in 2000) and when I found out, it was hard for me to believe it. I remember crying when I watched the movie.
A few years ago I found out she died when she was my age and it's impressive everything she accomplished being so young and also, so sad that she had her life taken from her. RIP Selena.
Good timing I've been going on a Selena binge
My parents got to see her perform and meet her! even got a pic with her !! From the early 90s. I’m Mexican/ American as well like Selena so believe me when I say she is truly beloved!! SELENA FOREVER 🕊️🙏🏼
Her brothe A.B. was the creator of the original Kumbia Kings . Great musical artist
I love this movie. What happened to the real Selena was a major tragedy. Yolanda should stay in prison for the rest of her life.
She's up for parole in another year
@@alicedelgado955 Yeah
@@morganghostbusters-egonfan she's still horrible by all accounts. Her interviews show absolutely no remorse. "It's a tragedy what happened, but I won't discuss it"
@@alicedelgado955 Yeah
My heart ached for you bc you got so emotional all throughout the story and you had no idea what was in stored for the ending ❤ thank you for the reaction, Selena deserved better but I hope people continue to honor her and remember her for the person she was ❤️❤️
....and chris' love for her never died til now
Its crazy. Such a rising star snuffed out..only 23
Just to note, that medley they played at the beginning were not Selena's original songs. That was a disco medley cover of many artists. You can find this actual performance from the real Selena on RUclips if you want to see her sing. She did have plenty of great original songs, but that opening wasn't one of them. 🙂
I’m not a crier but I cry for Selena. Years, decades later and the wounds are still fresh. 😢
I’m sorry when Yolanda said I don’t deserve to live and he said you don’t I lost it 😂😂😂
Fun Fact Selena GOmez was named after Selena, She was an icon for latinoamericans. Tis movie was a huge stepstone for Jlos carreer
that's kind of crazy if this is really your first time watching this movie. I remember watching this for the first-time years ago.... a long time ago...at my Aunt's house in 1997 or 1998 on VHS. It's a very sad movie. Selena was and is now an angel in heaven. May she rest in peace.
Selena was taken too soon… She was such a bright and cheerful person ❤
Selena was an angel on this earth gone to soon but her memory and legacy will live for ever 🙏🏼💜
My favorite Selena song is “Dreaming of You”
Your reaction makes me feel like the first time a saw this movie. I was 5 when Selena dies. Still makes me cry. Selena's music is always a part of my life.
There are a couple
Documentaries about this story you should watch. I cry everytime I watch this movie 🥹 Great reaction!!
I was about to go to bed...but this is my favorite movie of all time. I have "Como La Flor" tattooed on my left wrist.
Selena was a phenomenal performer and to this day is beloved by millions.
You are such a sweet guy. I remember when Selena was killed. We cried all day. Thank you for the reaction. I subscribed.
Look up Jennifer Peña! She sang the vocals for little Selena and she recorded her own music starting at age 12/13 😮❤❤❤
