    I think it's ironic how Mr. Incredible wanted to settle down, but Elastigirl didn't. Then because superheroes were forced into hiding, Bob wasn't totally ready to put that chapter behind him, so he kept sneaking off to stay in the game, hesitant to give it up, but Elastigirl who was forced to give up her goal took it by the reigns and took charge of her new life.

    • @marvelsandals4228
      @marvelsandals4228 2 года назад +58

      Yes it is a nice contrast. Each of them have opposite goals initially, then after the time skip their goals have switched. Bob misses being a hero & Helen has embraced the family life. I think it shows that they've changed a lot over the years. During the interview Bob said he feels like a maid constantly saving the world & seems sick of it...but deep down he loves being a hero & once he retires he is bored out of his mind.
      Then you have the kids who feel like freaks & just want to fit in, but by the end they love being heroes & the whole family got to have a good bonding experience together. Lots of good character arcs all in one movie.

      It's real??

    • @LycanFerret
      @LycanFerret 2 года назад +9

      @@Ken_Mochi Yes. Usually Good Samaritan laws protect civilians, but a medical official off-duty who saves someone(usually the homeless or poor) who wants to die to escape their life can be sued. Say you give chest compressions to a person drowning. You can be sued. Or you force vomit someone who just inhaled a bottle of pills to OD. Especially when chest compressions end in rib breakage.
      It's why sometimes the homeless carry "do not resuscitate" papers on them. So if they are brought to a hospital they can be let to die and the doctors don't help. Even saving someone's life can get you in big trouble.
      If someone is being mugged or assaulted, by all means help. If they cry for help, good chance they won't sue. But if someone is walking in the road and a car is coming - don't try to help, if hit - or if seizuring from drugs on the corner, call 911(or your respective emergency services) and then leave them. It's the best thing for you and others. Is this unfair to the people who might genuinely need help? Yes. But that's the guilt of the fuckers who sue people trying to help instead of just ending their own lives after being helped. If they hate living so much they'll sue someone who helps them if in danger, now endangering genuine people in need, they should just kill themselves.

    • @LycanFerret
      @LycanFerret 2 года назад +47

      9/10x someone who collapsed in a parking lot or is choking or just got hit by a car or shot will want help. But 1/10x, it's a person who wants to die. And you just saved an evil demon who hates your guts for being good, and will sue you to the ground even though they want to die. Does it make sense? Not at all. Why do they do it? Not even the Devil himself understands such malevolence. And that 10% ruins 90% of people's lives who now have to wait to be helped.

      It makes no sense at all. There's tons of clips where police smartly prevent someone jumping off a building to save their lives. And will obviously get them help since obviously if they let them go they'd be able to do it anyway. It makes absolutely zero sense for a suicidal person to want money. They can literally go attempt it again the next day assuming they're not being prevented by society. Same thing with people who are being arrested who try take suicide pills. They try stop them doing that. So lets stop talking nonsense.

    One of the things that made this movie work is that Brad Bird, the director, didn't want to dumb it down to kids. He took the philosophy, "write what you know," to heart. That argument Bob had with Helen, about how arbitrary it was to have a graduation ceremony for Dash getting to 5th grade, was an argument Brad Bird once had with his wife. By writing the Parr family based on his own family, and not dumbing it down, he made the Incredibles extremely relatable.

    Frozone got lucky because Syndrome was going after every superhero one at a time. Frozone was next on the list, that is who Mirage was scouting that night of the fire. But they did not count on Mr. Incredible to be there too. She didn't even know it was him at first, she called him "the fat guy". But she followed them and saw them use their powers, and she put it together that it has to be Mr. Incredible. And she knows Syndrome is obsessed with him so they had to change plans. Basically, if Bob wasn't with Lucius that night, he probably would have taken the job on the island, and had gotten killed by the robot just like the others. Or maybe he would have survived, but he would have been captured easily since he has no super strength to get passed that security goo that stopped Bob in his tracks.

      Yeah Brad Bird has done interviews talking about how at the time Incredibles was a huge gamble for Pixar. Their previous films had large groups of writers & directors collaborating on the final product, whereas he was in sole command with Incredibles. Also, he constantly wanted to rock the boat, break limits, & do things that had never been done before. Incredibles is the first (& possibly only) Pixar movie with guns, blood, a character saying "they will kill you," the corpse (skeleton) of a dead character, characters drinking alcohol, a married couple having a loud argument & screaming at each other, & a suicide attempt. When you stop & think about it, they REALLY took some crazy risks, but the end result is so good.

But that whole subplot about how Helen thought Bob was cheating on her, that completely evaded me as a kid, and I even had the same misinterpretation as Dash when Violet said their parents' marriage was in danger - that is to say, Dash and I both thought she meant the bad guys were trying to wreak Bob and Helen's marriage. There is actually also a meta reason for the "No capes" rule. Back then flowing cloths, like capes and skirts, were pretty hard to animate to move in a realistic way. So, no capes unless you want to get rid of your supervillan who never got the lecture x)
    I also love how they showed the different approaches Bob and Helen take in getting into the base. Bob, while trying to sneak, is clearly causing a lot more damage that's easily discovered compared to Helen who really only got noticed once she got stuck in the doors. Really shows how their powers informs their approach and thinking.

    There is a theory that Syndrome actually got his super (villain) suit design by Edna. Basically, the theory is that Syndrom wanted his suit designed by the best of the best, so he went to Edna under the disguise of a hero. But obviously Enda is a smart person, and so she saw through his facade, realizing that she was actually designing for a villain. So knowing what she knew, she purposefully added a cape to his suit, knowing it would lead to his demise.

      Yeah, come to think of it the "superhero ban" idea appears in a lot of famous stories. It is in Watchmen, Incredibles, Civil War, even Dark Knight Returns. It's always like the government turned a blind eye to superheroes for a while, then something bad happens, the public hates them, they are banned, they go into hiding, & of course, they return to save the day at the end & the public accepts them again.

    Edna is definitely a fan favorite character. Larger than life, a genius inventor, and so friendly, it's hard not to like her.
    And I have to say, you're good at catching subtle Chekov's Gun moments. The cape, you called it being the cause of his defeat. I actually had to laugh when you mentioned it, because I've seen this movie a dozen times, and it always makes me laugh when she throws the ball of paper at Bob. "No capes!" It looks great, but yeah, it can be a liability. But if it were held on by *mangetic strips,* or a quick release clip, it could be feasible. Not to mention it's a resource. Out in the wilderness and need something to stave off the rain? Clip it to some branches for a makeshift roof. Need to signal a plane? That brightly colored cape makes for a good flag! Need to catch some fish? Turn the cape into a net. Make the whole thing near indestructible, and it can be a good shield against bullets or flamethrowers.
    The sequel is a very good example of doing a sequel right. It's just a bit better than the first (and after so many years, it's amazing how they picked up like no time had passed at all).
    And you may notice a familiar voice in The Underminer. That's John Ratzenberger. He's been in every Pixar movie in some capacity or another. Sort of their good luck charm, like Alan Tudyk is for some of Disney's recent films. If you listen, you can always find him.

    The super-suit fashion designer lady, Edna, was voiced by the movie's director and writer, Brad Bird.

    2:42 "Who wants the pressure of being super all the time?"
    Dang... this movie predicted _Encanto_ . But I guess that's to be expected from a former _Simpsons_ writer, Brad Bird.
    Also, it's worth noting that the above line is said by the super-strong character, Bob/Mr. Incredible, while that movie's super-strong character, Luisa, has an entire song about having a tonne of pressure put on her, so... dang.

    1 hour reaction for the Incredibles movie?!Wow!🤩
    0:02:42 - 0:02:44 Luisa Madrigal has entered the chat.And then the whole family.
    0:03:12 - 0:03:15 Everybody likes that guy.😎
    0:06:39 - 0:06:45 "He can move!!😲Nevermind!😅"
    0:07:38 - 0:07:40 SPOILER from the 2nd movie!😉
    0:08:59 - 0:09:03 Just in case you missed it...the movie _purposefully_ makes you think they just met for the 1st time(or at least they knew each other only because they're both superheroes),but they were actually _already_ knowing each other(probably for years)and they had already planned to get married that day..they were just playing with each other.💞That's why Elastigirl says:"You're late.When you asked me if I was doing anything later,I didn't realize you'd actually forgotten. I thought it was a playful banter!"and he replies:"It _was_ a playful banter."
    0:11:37 - 0:11:40 I saw him!!🙋‍♂
    0:29:35 - 0:29:38 Edna is the best!😎🤣
    0:31:22 - 0:31:27 Me neither and I honestly hate this rule.Capes look *so good* on superheroes!🤩I guess if I was one,I would either ask Edna to make me a costume with a retractible cape or I would put the cape in the"public situations"like when they interview me and take photos etc and then I would take it off when I'm"working".
    0:34:28 - 0:34:35 YOU HAD HIM!!!>O< Goddamn you and your Villain monolouges!!X-P #VillainsAreLosers
    0:38:56 - 0:39:01 In Italian the phrasing is slightly different.The 2nd time Edna says:"ARE YOU SURE you know it?!"and,I don't know why,this scene always gets me *so much.* I feel _so bad_ for Helen because she does NOT know where her husband is and this means 1)that he's betraying her trust(and she already suspects he's cheating on her which makes it even more hurtful)and 2)that if he dies while he's away,she wouldn't know and,if he didn't have the homing device,she wouldn't even been able to get the body back.But,since he _does_ have it,she would only been able to go search for a corpse. It's actually *horrifying* if you stop a moment to think about it.😥💔
    0:41:36 - 0:41:37 Edna,I adore you,but *WHY* DID YOU HAVE MAKE IT BEEP?!?!?!>O

    YESSS!! Gotta express my excitement before I even start the video. Nick, this is my favorite movie of all time!! So happy you're sharing your first watch of it with us!
    Edit, having seen your intro: I adore that you're studying the medium and mentioned that animation isn't for one age group. Super fitting as a preface to you seeing this Pixar / Brad Bird film in particular!
