The "I Need A Hero" sequence is probably the best action scene in animated film history. The music is perfect, and the action is fast paced and comedic.
It took me centuries to realize the king and queen were the princess and the frog. I think the lore is Harold was in debt to fairy godmother for his happily ever after, which led into Fiona's ogre curse. The Shrek series is so we'll written 😩
The Shrek franchise didn't use Disney properties. They used fairy tales, something that Disney did quite a bit. Otherwise they'd make an allusion to Disney's works, like the Beauty and the Beast characters. And the "I Need a Hero" sequence is one of my favorite moments in the entire series. They made great use of the song, and the whole fight getting to Fiona always has me tearing up at times. Mongo losing his arms and sinking, then Puss staying back to buy Shrek and Donkey time, not knowing if he'll be okay, it hits me solidly in the feels. And the scene with Shrek going to see the Fairy Godmother, he made good use of the Trope "Bavarian Fire Drill", sneaking in with the union trick, and then using a disguise that probably only worked because they thought he was affected by one of the potions (a possibly common occurrence). That was a fun scene. And human Shrek may have changed, but I'd bet he still had his strength. I sort of wish he'd have had to fight Charming, with Charming being hopelessly outmatched. Shrek breaks the sword, Charming punches him to *no effect whatsoever,* and Shrek just shoves him back or tosses him aside like a baseball. That would have been a better lead up to the Godmother casting her spell at him, and it'd show how hard he'd fight for Fiona.

You picked a great one, man! This film really blows the original Shrek out of the water! The returning characters are more memorable, the new characters are fantastic, it has much stronger comedy, the story is a massive improvement, the music is beautiful, and it’s the best looking film in the series! Shrek will never reach this level of popularity with the general public ever again. Shrek 2 will never be topped! My second favorite comedy of all time behind the original 1984 Ghostbusters!
These aren't Disney properties, by the way. These fairy tales are on the public domain. Anyone can make their version of these characters, but they don't own the original. So this movie could use as many fairy tales as they want as long as they don't plagiarize art or dialogue from Disney or any other version of these characters.
One thing that I completly forgot is the fact that since Donkey drink the potion, wouldn't effect Dragon too? According to the creators, she turn into a giant pink pegasus, which would match perfectly with Donkey stallion appereance. Now does that effect the Dronkeys too when she was pregnant? No one knows.
Nick, they're not Disney properties. They'd get sued if it were. They are popular fairy tales Disney made into movies, and Dreamworks designed theirs to look similar to the Disney versions. Because its a parody
But heavily based on/pastiching the Disney interpretations, just staying on the right side of copyright! Certainly that Little Mermaid had a distinctive familiar look....
Fun reference I think you didn't see: when they're getting their wedding rings, it's like in The Lord of The Rings :D Fiona even has the same scene as Frodo in the Prouncing Pony, when he falls and the ring goes into his finger (also the 'I Love You' written in the ring as a reference to the writing of the One Ring, etc)
Shrek 2 is my fav shrek movie. And I just love how they base far far away off of Hollywood is funny. And I just love how in the shrek movies they have all the references of different fairytales and Disney. And I freaking love the scene where Fiona and shrek are on their honeymoon. It’s so funny.
Did you know in Shrek 2 where Shrek, Donkey and Puss enters the potion factory there’s a picture of a witch to a fairy. Which means that Fairy Godmother was a witch before she’s a fairy and to answer who curses on Fiona. The answer was the Fairy Godmother when Fiona was young and explained to Donkey in the first movie about her curse
Nick, maybe you should read Grimm's Fairytales or other versions because Disney didn't create those stories. Some are based of folklore/ fairytales from centuries ago (Snow White, Cinderella, etc.), some are based off history/ legends (Mulan, Pocahontas, etc.), and some are based off Hans Christan Andersen books (The Little Mermaid, Frozen, etc.). In fact, a lot of Disney's movies aren't original ideas. The Lion King is based on Hamlet, Treasure Planet is based on Treasure Island, Atlantis is based on the legend of Atlantis, etc. There's only a handful of movies they've made that are completely original like Zootopia and Lilo and Stitch.
one of the best sequels ever, it's one of those rare occasions where the next movie's success exceeds the first just like Toy Story 2 and Spiderman 2. The other Shrek sequel that almost is as good as this one is the 4th.

Hey, Nick, in case your curious as to why there’s so many Disney references in Shrek 1 and 2, it’s because Jeffery Katzenberg (CEO of Dreamworks for those that don’t know) used to work for Disney. Plus Dreamworks was created outta revenge against Disney

They're not exactly Disney properties and characters. The stories are technically public domain because they're so old. so anybody can make movies about the characters
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Shrek 2 is a GREAT movie. Definitely better than the first one, both of which are miles better than either of the sequels. Great gags, great villain, great music. It's well structured and paced, it's got a solid B-plot and the references are much better integrated and executed. It tells a relatively adult story in an accessible kid's flick without sacrificing the comedy or the spectacle. It's for sure as perfect as a Shrek movie can be, and maybe as perfect as any big-budget studio-driven stunt-casted animated feature could ever be. Great reaction, as always.
every scene and lines of this movie are amazing, beyond perfection. And dont let me start about the music. Its not just the best sequel but one of the best movies itself. Iconic.

Yes, and Puss in Boots is one of my favourites. Lots of people don’t realise that, in the original tale, Puss defeats an ogre on behalf of his master by turning him into a mouse and eating him.
I am such a fan of Puss in Boots when I first saw him in this movie for a long time. He's a cute and heroic kitty cat But King Howard was a frog prince?
Something interesting to think about with the Happily Ever After potion. If it magically turns you and 'your true love' into more beautiful forms, then I have to imagine the ironic outcomes if you take it, but your partner doesn't change.
I don’t remember you laughing this much since watching “The Emperor’s New Groove”. Another thing, does this have the best movie finale in history or what?
Not Disney. Fairy tales are in the public domain. Meaning anyone can make a version of them as a film. Stuff like Pinocchio and Cinderella weren't originally made by Disney, they're adaptations of folktales and stories from centuries ago. Also, Fairy Godmother is the best villain in the Shrek Franchise pre-Last Wish. Rumplestiltskin is close, since he actually won.
My favorite subtle joke in the movie is when her father says "the old Crusade wound is acting up." He is voiced by legendary English comedian John Cleese who's character of Basil Fawlty would feign a bad knee saying "the old war wound acting up" when he needed to fake a distraction.
Also, I'll say this much: While the Shrek series has become a meme I don't really dislike any of the films. Even The Third, which is considered the worst I still have a lot of fun watching.
This is the best animated movie ever made. It's so fun and at the same time get so many layers. And the plot is very simple, is basically family drama.
3:45 Fun fact: That’s a joke on the first lord of the rings movie where the ring accidentally falls on frodos finger, And to further prove that was the joke, There were words spelt on the ring after it was put on her finger since it just was forged from fire! Not many people catch that in this movie, but I kinda enjoy these little hidden jokes

Perhaps she had them in eggs 🤔 and there was an incubation period, so they wouldn’t be effected?
My family used to bring the DVD of this movie with us on holiday trips and watch it in the car. Good times...
Nick, they're not Disney properties. They'd get sued if it were. They are popular fairy tales Disney made into movies, and Dreamworks designed theirs to look similar to the Disney versions. Because its a parody
Yeah, they're public domain characters/stories which means anyone can use them
Thanks for explaining!
Thanks so much for letting me know!
Other reference are the cops after horse-donkey just like the police cars running after OJ Simpson
Acctually this movie have a lot of cool references 😂
Aww I really love this thanks . Nicky
Julie Andrews voices the Queen as well as played a Queen in The Princess Diaries. 😄
I loved her in VICTOR VICTORIA
And I think she was Mary Poppins too.
@@morganyakkofan9052 U r correct. 🎃
She even played Cinderella once if memory serves me right and she was in the Sound of music
Didn’t she also voice that giant Sea monster from Aquaman?
Shrek 2 is my fav shrek movie. And I just love how they base far far away off of Hollywood is funny. And I just love how in the shrek movies they have all the references of different fairytales and Disney. And I freaking love the scene where Fiona and shrek are on their honeymoon. It’s so funny.
It’s just a fact of life that this cover of “I Need a Hero” is one of the few covers out there that’s better than the original!!!
Fun fact: The Ugly Stepsister was voiced by Larry King
Regis Philbin voiced the other stepsister…
Another fun fact: This stepsister's name was Doris.
Doris used to be a male too if you look at the before and after thing in one of the extras in one of the dvd menu pages of Shrek it's pretty neat
RIP
Fairy Godmother’s “I Need a Hero” is still one of the greatest moments in movie history 😂✋💕
Shrek 4 is the craziest shock success ever. It doesn’t deserve to be as good as it is after the third
"Shrek 4"is a plot hole that somehow has been called a movie.😒
@@Nicamon same with three lol
@@user-yc5fr8zu1m No. Why?There's no plot hole in"Shrek 3"that I recall.🤨
@@Nicamon oh somehow a small speech stops all these villains, somehow Fiona has a cousin?? Which isn’t explained, why can’t shrek just hold a ceremony in his kingdom for the ruler? But sure, there’s no plot holes at all. And we get this boring villain we got in the second
@@user-yc5fr8zu1m What do you mean"somehow"?Why is Fiona not allowed to have cousins??🤨Why should it have been explained? She has a cousin.Period. No one ever said she _didn't._ It's also not a plot hole to have the same Villain twice, unless he was previously dead. You know what *is* a plot hole?Having a Rumplestilskin in the 4th movie that it's NOT the same Rumple we saw in the 2nd movie AND having an AU in which Farquaad and Charming don't exist anymore with no explanation whatsoever and Puss has gotten fat instead of keep being a bounty hunter like he was before meeting Shrek!
They didn’t have to go so hard with the ‘I need a hero’ sequence, but by god they did 😂
Fun fact: The guy need a hero song in this movie is often considered the better version so much so that a lot of people don’t even know it’s a cover.
54:10 Suddenly DOnkey's mentioning that Dragon had been getting really moody lately makes a lot of sense - she was pregnant, moodiness is a common side effect.
"I gotta get a job." Yeah, he really does.
The "I Need a Hero" song always reminds me of the Short Circuit movies. You should watch them if you haven't already. I love that song, too! 💕
I need a hero song reminds me of footloose tractor chicken scene
Shrek 2 is the best example of how to do better on a sequel. It's just so iconic and funny
The "I Need a Hero" sequence still has me surprised that this movie is basically Jennifer Saunders' only singing credit. She nailed it!
The fact that this movie convinced me that the fairy God mother was the original singer of Hero shows how amazing this show is
Your reactions are so pure and so fun to watch, I love them! Shrek 2 is one of the very rare sequels that is better than the original, and while Shrek 3 is my least favorite, my controversial opinion is that Shrek 4 (aka: Shrek Forever After) is just as good as Shrek 2. I'm so excited to see you react to the rest of the series, this is one of my favorite movie franchises out there!
Puss in Boots is my favorite character of the Shrek franchise. He must be protected at all costs.
Donkey doing the lip popping is to me one of the funniest scenes ever! I was in tears the first time too.
Phenomenal casting for this one in addition to the existing characters. One of my all time favourites. Great reaction 🐈 👢👁 👁
I’ll never get over how they brought in the OJ Simpson car chase 😂
Lol I never caught that reference as a kid, but now as an adult it's hilarious
@@lexopolis134 right?! 😂
Ahhh, this pops up in my notifications just as I'm watching "Shrek 2" on TV for probably the first time in a decade. I'm realizing / remembering now why other fans love it so damn much. I still think I'm in the minority that I prefer the first one the best, but this is truly an incredibly brilliant and hilarious sequel. I can't wait for your first reaction!!! :)
To be fair, the second wouldn’t be so beloved if the first one hadn’t set up and developed our main characters so well.
“I’m a real boy!!” That part cracks me up. 😆
How to sneak in a huge factory filled with security
No: build a complex plan
Yes: go to the front desk and convince them to unionize
Hey, Nick, in case your curious as to why there’s so many Disney references in Shrek 1 and 2, it’s because Jeffery Katzenberg (CEO of Dreamworks for those that don’t know) used to work for Disney. Plus Dreamworks was created outta revenge against Disney
This is my favorite Shrek movie.
2004: Shrek 2
2019: Detective Pikachu
2021: Masters Of The Universe
I need a hero
The song is called "Holding Out for a Hero" and was originally used in 1984's Footloose.
@@ZuperNEZ 👍
Shrek 2 is my favorite out of the whole franchise! I honestly think it’s the best!
Also it’s so nice to see Nick cry tears of joy for once :)
Fun fact: this movie came out the same year as Shark tale and the incredibles
Shrek 2: one of the best dreamworks movies
Shark tale: what people consider as one of the worst dreamworks has ever done
The incredibles: for some people the best Pixar movie
Shark tale was the best gay coming out movie ever what are you talking about
34:31 Ladies and gentlemen we present to you the early Proto type of the effect that would be used for Henry Cavill a man of steel to edit out his mustache
Fiona did in this movie what every woman does every morning. Scream at the sight of our own faces. This is why the movie is gold. Love your reactions!
Oh my gosh, that's genius. 😂👏👏👏
53:15 lmao at the complete and utter shock on nicks face, poor man looked traumatised.
I was looking for this comment
The bonus features on it's DVD were iconic ✨ It had an interactive game called Far Far Away Idol where an animated Simon Cowell was a judge alongside Shrek & Fiona 😂 If you didn't vote for one of the main characters or voted for a contestant that sung badly Simon would announce himself the winner and sing My Way by Frank Sinatra...it was wild 🤣
Basically if it wasn't a main character. Funny since the online winner was not a main character! Girls, they wanna have fun.
Your laughter is contagious Nick 😂😂😂😂😂 Can’t wait for you to see Shrek 3 and 4 😂
I still remember watching this one in theaters. Probably one of the biggest laughing fits from the entire audience I've ever been part of when the dove smashes against the wall
This is one of my favorite films, was one of the first films I saw in theaters. The story is perfect and is one of the best comedy I ever seen.
This is my cousin's favorite movie of all time. He rarely chooses to watch anything else. He's downs and it lights up my heart to see him dance and sing along with this movie. I'm really glad to see someone else enjoy it too.
I'm so happy you enjoyed the movie. This was such a staple in my childhood. There are so many allusions and references that can confuse some but are still overall enjoyable
They're not exactly Disney properties and characters. The stories are technically public domain because they're so old. so anybody can make movies about the characters
Wrong in Sherk world is full of magical creatures and fairytale creatures.
So it’s not just “anybody”…. It’s like how Monster Inc, The incredible s and Toy Story are all in the same world
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Shrek 2 is a GREAT movie.
Iconic.
The "I Need A Hero" scene will forever be the best thing to happen in cinema
All Shrek franchise is Iconic and one of the best. But I have to say, Shrek 2 is a freaking masterpiece for our/my generation. 💚
The Spanish dub of this movie is the funniest thing Ive ever seen 🤣 the perks of growing up at grandmas house and Telemundo plays Shrek 2 on Sundays 🤣🤣🤣
I haven't left a comment in a long time (mostly bc i never know what to comment😅) but i just wanna say i really enjoy all your videos 💕 Thank you so much for all the effort and dedication you put on them, you're really my favorite reactions channel and watching your videos always make me feel a little bit happier. I hope you know how much we appreciate you and your channel. You're amazing 😁
Thanks so much Micaela!
I you help me through through a lot too whenever my panic attacks end I enjoy watching you ❤🌺🌸💙🦋🤍
19:03 not exactly disney references, but more on the fairy tales and books the disney films are based on.
Yes, and Puss in Boots is one of my favourites. Lots of people don’t realise that, in the original tale, Puss defeats an ogre on behalf of his master by turning him into a mouse and eating him.
@@jen6879 In some versions of the tale, it's actually an evil sorcerer instead of an ogre.
I was baffled when you said that king Harold turned into the frog because that‘s what he originally was. That never occurred to me!
You are the most whole-hearted and most humble reactor I've seen in RUclips. Glad I subscribed to you long time ago. Keep it up, man!!
Captain Hook isn't a Disney product. Captain Hook was created by James Matthew Barrie for the Peter Pan book in 1911. Disney adapted the book in 1953.
I am such a fan of Puss in Boots when I first saw him in this movie for a long time.
He's a cute and heroic kitty cat
But King Howard was a frog prince?
Something interesting to think about with the Happily Ever After potion. If it magically turns you and 'your true love' into more beautiful forms, then I have to imagine the ironic outcomes if you take it, but your partner doesn't change.
O gosh. That would be something
I don’t remember you laughing this much since watching “The Emperor’s New Groove”.
Another thing, does this have the best movie finale in history or what?
They unironically made the best third act in animated cinema history. In a Shrek movie. It’s *way* too good.
No one tell Nick the real story behind the "Muffin Man" I prefer him to be NOT scared for life
Enjoy this as much as you can because this the best of the Shrek movies
24:51 I agree. That warms my heart every time. My mom and I are suckers for cuteness. 😄
Best film out the 4 by far. It’s just amazing 🤩😁. Love your reactions Nick ❤️. Congrats on 50k!! 💗
My favorite subtle joke in the movie is when her father says "the old Crusade wound is acting up."
He is voiced by legendary English comedian John Cleese who's character of Basil Fawlty would feign a bad knee saying "the old war wound acting up" when he needed to fake a distraction.
Also, I'll say this much: While the Shrek series has become a meme I don't really dislike any of the films. Even The Third, which is considered the worst I still have a lot of fun watching.
I loved on the DVD of this there was an American idol parody of the characters singing different songs. It was amazing.
Let's go! Best cinematic masterpiece in history of humankind.
I would say "change my mind" but it's imposible
Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse
The Brave Little Toaster
My heart is so full when I watch your videos, thank you for making your channel!
This is the best animated movie ever made. It's so fun and at the same time get so many layers. And the plot is very simple, is basically family drama.
For Christmas you could try Polar Express, such a wholesome animated movie.
One of my favorite Christmas movies .
Klaus and Elf too!
It's amazing how amazing Shrek movies are!
Thank you very much Nick, for pumping out these reactions, you're awesome sir.
Yeah, they did the Spider-Man kiss, among many other things, like the golden ring sliding onto her finger, just like the ring to rule them all)))
It's the baker that is The Muffin Man, who made Gingy and Mongo (the giant dumb gingerbread man).
I love this one more than the first but they're both perfect
