Me too every time I watched this as a kid😂
Name's Bruce 👁👄👁
Two of my favourite facts for this movie, one is that the turtles act like stoned surfer dudes because in real life, eating jellyfish has the same effect on turtles as marijuana in humans, hence the luck of Marlin and Dory being found by them near a pod of jellyfish. Second isn’t really a fact per se, but I just love the way they pushed against the shark stereotype and instead had them be bros in an AA meeting
Bro sharks in a fish AA group was/is still hilarious lol
I mean also stoner dude sea turtles of course
Also, the type of fish Gill is, a Moorish Idol, are actually known to try escaping captivity lol
They really did their research. They usually do.
Whoa, so animals have their own kind of drugs?
In the original movie, they had Marlin’s flashbacks throughout the film about his and Coral’s life together, and only near the ending do we get the story of her dying and Nemo being the last kid. Throughout the film, test audiences had negative reaction towards Marlin because the audience did not receive the sense of empathy until they learned of Coral’s death, but at that point it was too late and audience’s found him negative.
So, Pixar scrapped the flashback sequences and made the death scene literally the first scene. After this, audiences found Marlin to be a loving father who tries to do the best he can do.
I would've loved that
The scene itself was SO well done though, while I understand fully why they had to cut it. So glad they put it on Disney+, I def recommend people to see it!
I never knew this! And I think they made the right choice :D
Best decision they could've made. Changed everything.
So basically people will judge you until they know what you’ve been through
This right here is Pixar's defining chapter. Not only this easily became the highest-grossing animated film at the time, but it was critically acclaimed for what many praised as some of the most photorealistic animation. This was especially true with the water animation, which looked outstanding back in 2003 and still looks pretty amazing even by today's standards.
You know what's even more amazing? That water animation is actually a result of Pixar making the animation "less realistic" because their initial water animation looked "too real" to tell that it was an animation. Perhaps Pixar made a right decision at the time since people might've not been ready to accept live-action-level animation back then. As time went by, however, people became more accepting to that level of animation, which is why Pixar stopped holding back about 5 years later.
I can see some of the water textures are different, I think it's a deeper blue and there is some additional lighting with the rays but I havent even began the video and only going by memory.
Dory is one of the few comedy side characters that actually works because she actually has character growth (and causes growth in marlin) throughout and isn't just the static annoyances that many of these characters wind up being
Im glad you watched it and enjoyed it, hopefully it'll remind you of all the good times with your friend.
Yeah, she's funny but also gets to be a good character with development and her own story.
I love Dory
There's also the underlying tragedy of her short-term memory loss.
Marlin definitely had PTSD after losing his wife and children, that's why he acts like that but I love his emotional growth, overcoming his traumas.
Also this is a beautiful story that portrays very well various disabilities (the little fin because of the "accident" at birth and Dory's memory loss) or self-help (sharks at AA), and that's just wonderful and beautiful job from pixar!!
Here’s a not so fun fact: barracudas don’t exactly eat clownfish
@@springheartedtiger a big fan theory is that marlin ate his wife and the kids leaving one because male clownfish mate with their children by turning themselves female
@@siddharthanand6882 huh?
@@siddharthanand6882 so, clownfish do incest
@Siddharth Anand That makes no sense consindering the barracuda knocked him out.
Also, Andrew Stanton deliberately disregarded the sex change as it would be too weird for a kids' movie. If we have to follow realism, then Coral would have been bigger than Marlin.
Fun fact about the water animation:
When they were animating it, they showed it to the boss, and they were promptly told to do it all over.
The reason? It was TOO realistic. They said if the waters too realistic, the audience would mistake it for a documentary, and fall asleep.
Bruh.
That was a good idea because that Lion king remake was horrible
Lol what? I mean, I guess it doesn't matter?
I like nature documentaries
My childhood best friend passed away very close to a year ago. I still have a lot of songs and games and movies that hit me very hard emotionally when I experience them now. RIP. 💔😢 🪦 You have something in common with Nick. Did you see Finding Dory in theaters with him/her?
My favorite quote from this movie is “Tell us a joke, Clownfish!”.
Seriously. I say it every time I see a real Clownfish.
Marlin: What do you get when you cross a mourning father with an ocean that abandons him and treats him like trash?
I think that with Nemo I get it. His dad is constantly underestimating his skills because HE was scared of loosing him. Merlin needs therapy.
Yeah, Nemo represents people with disabilities in a way. With others, even their own parents, just looking at them and thinking they can't do things.
"Merlin"? I think you mean, *Marlin* 😂
@@fynnthefox9078 In the animated series "Avatar. The last airbender", Toph was born blind, and she, just like Nemo, suffered from overprotection. Thanks for not cutting out the intro Nick, know you were debating whether or not to keep it exclusively on patreon or not, but your friend would have loved your reaction to this!
Alongside Toy Story 1 & 2, I think Finding Nemo is Pixar's crowning achievement, and really cemented the studio as masters of their craft. I remember this movie being the most talked-about sensation when it came out, it almost felt like a cultural shift honestly. Animation, screenwriting, score, voice acting, every single thing came together perfectly. What a classic
Toy Story 2 doesn’t get the love it deserves
The beginning scene is absolutely heartbreaking but nothing creeped me out as much as the Anglerfish scene when i was a kid😂it still creeps me out. And thank u for ur reactions❤️
That beginning scene is actually really interesting, because in production, they were planning on not having that scene at the beginning but further into the film. Though from the draft they found the audience couldn't really connect or understand why Marlin was so tough on Nemo; so they moved it to the beginning.
44:48+44:49+44:50+44:51
The way you kept flinching when the shark first showed up cracked me up. Haven't seen that reaction to that scene before😆
Must have some good ear buds lol
I mean, I did too. Though I was a kid when I first saw this.
I always love when parental love is focused in a movie. We have few storylines like that due to romance usually being the main subject in many media. I read somewhere that the intro was so intense, parents skipped it to prevent their children from being traumatized. I wonder if it's true.
They referenced that on _The Simpsons_ , where Milhouse's parents skipped that first chapter, only for it to bite Milly on the ass later.
@@ARCtheCartoonMaster Oh. I think I've seen that episode.
Well, I can only speak for my four year old self to confirm I was not traumatised by the opening
My brother in law really loves this movie a lot so was determined to show his kids my niece and nephew. My nephew wasn’t really interested because he only wants to watch animated musicals and has not enough attention span to focus on a story as long as Nemo without music but my niece who is one really loves animals especially cats and all fish she would go crazy whenever she would see aquariums or pictures of fish so when we first watched the movie he adorably at the beginning covered her eyes so she wouldn’t see what happened with the mom at the beginning with her trying to rip it off the whole time otherwise she really loved it even if she was too young to go along with the storyline but would constantly point at the fish saying “Ooh” cutely which she did whenever she saw a cat or something she thought was pretty it was adorable.
Fun facts: Albert Brooks, the voice of Marlin, is also in the Universal animated movie “The Secret Life of Pets”, Willem DeFoe, we all know he’s Green Goblin from Tobey’s Spider-Man Trilogy, and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Geoffrey Rush, the voice of Nigel, is also in The Pirates Of the Caribbean movies, he was the Character Hector Barbosa.
Also Eric Bana, the voice of Anchor the Hammerhead, played Bruce Banner/The Incredible Hulk in Hulk and Hector in Troy

Very beginning, yes.
EVERY thing about this movie is nostalgic, the images, the jokes, the music ❤ I'm so glad you got to experience this gem of a movie
Nick, I hit like on this video FOR the fact you opened up about something important to you. And I assure you that a barely 3 minutes intro is not "ranting". Much love.
What a nostalgic movie. My elementary school would always play this movie and I didn’t appreciate it as much as I do now compared to when I was little. Thank you for your reactions 💕
i love marine biology, nemo was apparently very very accurate in a lot of its concepts! Ofc, still a kids movie, sharks dont eat everything they see and definitely not the smaller fish xD. Regarding humans they tend to bite them because they want to figure out what you are and if youre edible (especially if youre panicking), so they arent evil but should respect them. I saw divers dive with bullsharks and hilariously theyll come up behind the diver but if the diver turns around to look at it itll immediately run away.
Biggest inaccuracy I think is the whale. Whales don’t spew water from their blowhole. The blowhole is connected to the lungs. The spray when they come up for air is them blowing the water off their blowhole so they can breathe without inhaling a bunch of sea water.
Diving with bullsharks? No thank you, ill dive with any other shark, but not bull sharks lol. Theyre the most aggressive sharks out there.
This movie was so beautiful to watch on a huge theater screen.
Nick: I'm terrified of sharks.
Me: *grinning because I know EXACTLY what Bruce is like*
No that wasn’t normal for Nemo to have a smaller fin, that’s what happened to his fin because of how the egg was hit from the rock in the beginning
Glen McQueen was an animator who worked on every PIXAR project until his passing (can't recall what he died from; some form of illness). FINDING NEMO was not only dedicated to him, but the lead character of CARS, Lightning McQueen, was named after him.
Fun fact: Bruce the shark is named after the shark animatronic from Jaws
You know what’s funny? This movie was one of the many things that made me fall in love with the ocean when I was a kid. It really kinda initiated that path for me and started this chain reaction of ocean love. Now, fast-forward 10 years or so and I’m in college studying Applied Coastal Environmental Science in the wonderful state of Louisiana. But when I was a young boy this movie meant a lot to me.
It also wasn’t until I was 16 or so that I really started to understand the deeper themes of the movie really well, relating to fatherly love and such.
To this day, Thomas Newman is one of my favorite composers and I regularly listen to the soundtrack.
Thanks for the reaction, Nick. Keep up the good work.
My interest in the ocean came from this and SpongeBob.
Please Nick, do not apologize for talking about your friend. Thank you for sharing this :) That is the great thing about you. You are just open and honest. And remembering the ones that not physically there with us anymore is what makes them stay in our heart :) I would say you did watch that movie finally together with him in some way.
Fun fact : Gill is voiced by none other than the Green Goblin himself, Willem Dafoe.
It took me years to figure that out
Growing up, I mainly knew Willem Dafoe as the prima donna director in _Mr. Bean's Holiday_ - which, strangely enough, also involves a boy being separated from his dad due to some eccentric geezer. And both films also have the song "La Mer/Beyond the Sea", _Mr. Bean's Holiday_ using the original French version by Roland Gerbeau, while _Finding Nemo_ has the English cover by Robbie Williams (NOT Robin!).
@@ARCtheCartoonMaster I like to jokingly theorize that Carson is actually Norman, faking his death from being impaled by his glider like in the comics. And he decides to move to Europe and become a film director. You can even see signs of the Green Goblin showing through. We were close to seeing Green Goblin vs Mr. Bean.
Sea turtles can actually live that long too, some think even way longer than that. Crush wasn't lying when he said "and STILL young!"
10:11 That was a flatworm. Also, this movie is one of Pixars' best and most emotional. I love watching people who have never seen, or hardly remember it react to it. It's like watching it for the first time all over again. 😊
This is exactly what I needed after a hard week. Thank you
I really like Finding Nemo, one of my faves! I fondly remember watching this Pixar film with my parents upon its theatrical release. I like marine life, so naturally I was really invested in the characters, as well as the plot. This film is beautiful, emotional, and entertaining imo. Thanks so much for checking out this film, Nick!
Yay one of my favorite pixar movies. Finding Nemo is one of those movies you can watch a million times and not get bored with it. I love it.
Sorry for the delay, but here are Finding Nemo Facts I have to share:
1. The reason for the “lucky fin” is because of the crack in the egg it altered how Nemo formed,
2. With Pixar films they usually have a teaser somewhere of what their next film will be for example in this one you see one of the kids is reading an Incredibles Comic, In the Incredibles during the battle you can see a car that looks like the Hudson Hornet, etc
3. The voice of Gil is Willem Dafoe who people know better as Green Goblin in the Spiderman films,
4. The voice of Crush is the film’s director Andrew Stanton,
5. The voice of Mr. Ray is another Pixar employee Bob Peterson,
6. After the release of the film a lot of people who meant well, but were not informed flushed their fish down the toilet, but what they don’t know is all of those fish went through the sewage treatment system and let’s just say bit the bullet,
7. One thing I learned because of my science teacher in high school is clown fish when there isn’t a female around change gender. So in actuality Nemo should have been a girl based on science,
8. So many kids begged their parents for “Nemo’s” after the release of the film. It was pretty bad since they usually didn’t know how to care for them and killed them as well.
Actually based on 7, MARLIN is the female. Not Nemo.
Whales also don’t have uvulas in real life
Marlin and Crush are two of the best Disney/Pixar Dads in Disney/Pixar history.
You jumping at Bruce was the best. 😂 In all seriousness, though, I don't blame you for being creeped out by him since I always have been.
Also, fun fact, but he's named Bruce because that's what the shark was called in Jaws. And the reason why Nemo sounds familiar is because he's voiced by Alexander Gould, a.k.a. Bambi in Bambi II. 😊
This movie made me fall in love with the sea.
This one never gets old. I'm so sorry about your friend. I'm glad we could all watch it with you in his memory. 💕
So excited for Monsters Inc as well!! Especially since you have seen Monsters University I feel like it will be a really unique reaction.
Yay I love this film 🤧🤧🤧❤️🔥 I think his “lucky” fin is smaller bc of that injury to his egg when the barracuda attacked the family at the beginning. It was cracked on that side so his fin was affected from it.
The talk at the start touched my heart
This is the best reaction video you have done! There was a fair enough reason behind this, you related a lot to it and every single important scene you had a very genuine reaction about it! This is by far the best reaction you have ever done
Aw thanks so much, really appreciate that!
I just lost my dad in December so I know how it feels to have those connections.
And, as I always say in my comments, I subbed for your authenticity and openness to share your personal stories and how they connect to the movies you react to. I wouldn’t give you flack for not seeing a movie growing up. Sometimes I feel like you’re too hard on yourself but this is what I come here for. When this film was released it was my absolute favorite Pixar film to date. Still love it.
The scene where Dory begs Marlin not to leave is seriously underrated. Truly heartwrenching.
This is one of the best moive ever 👍
It's been 19 years and the "mine" seagulls still kill me! I cannot even look at an actual seagull or a seagull statue without thinking of these guys and losing my mind🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 My mom knows they crack me up, so she will immediately think the same thing.
My dad and I do what Crush and Squirt do, where if I tell him something cool, he will go "sweeeet" and I'll reply "totally!"
Nemo was a big game changer, but just wait until you see Finding Dory!
That movie has so many emotional and psychological levels about Dory's character, it's just so impeccable.
Dory's story arc in Finding Dory is done so ambitiously and with such passion, it's not only one of my favourite Pixar films, but one of my favourite films, period.
He already saw it, he just doesn't remember anything about it. 😂

I love how Crush is voiced by the director of the movie and his son is voiced by his actual son. It’s such a nice touch.
This movie is so special to me. It was the first Disney movie I watched when I was a baby. My mom used to say that I absolutely loved this movie as a baby and I still do. Because of this movie, I want to help the planet as a future career.
I clicked forgetting this was a "father saving his child" movie, I have not stopped crying from the moment I remembered which movie I was watching.
My Dad was always there for me, always standing beside me, always the brick wall holding me up.
This hit really deep. My Dad passed away 2 months ago. And Mom passed away 2 days ago.

Hello Nick,
I was originally shown Finding Nemo as a four-year-old with my mom and grandparents in their house (as soon as it had been released on VHS), as well as with a few other visiting relatives. I remember being terrified by a few parts (particularly the barracuda who appears towards the end of the first scene and eats all of Marlin's family except for Nemo, and sets the often rather treacherous and sad tone for the rest of the movie), yet enchanted by the story and imagery as well. Since then, I have come to understand and appreciate the emotional journey, the characters, the clever humor and the animated details of the setting even more.
My parents have also been equally fond of and impressed by it. I have always enjoyed and remembered Thomas Newman's musical score through the years (he composed the soundtrack for WALL-E too). Seeing this with my family is one of my clearest memories from nineteen years ago, and I quite enjoyed hearing your reaction to and feelings on it. I am very sorry about your friend
I really LOVE Pixar's Finding Nemo (2003)! It's very the best animated feature film ever!!
And it's one of my favorite unforgettable Pixar franchises along with Toy Story, Cars, Monsters Inc, and The Incredibles!
And Pixar's Finding Nemo is my most favorite animated movie from 2003 when I was 8 to 9 years old in 2003!
All fantastic movies 💖
My other favorite is “Just Keep Swimming”.
The music in this movie was on another level too, lol plus the animation, the emotion, the plot, such a compelling movie. Some great comedy in their too, great voice acting. My favourite childhood movie of all time, right up there with spirit stallion of the cimarron, and the lord of the rings trilogy
I love this movie. Cried so much. It already starts so sad and keeps hitting you right were it hurts but at the same time it is beautiful
Nick as movie starts: “I’m so excited to watch this movie”
Me, knowing how this movie starts: 😫😭😢
You’re a very expressive reaction guy, Mr. Nick, I’ve never seen a reactor show such fear, joy, and sadness while reacting, also Dory is my absolute favorite and she made this movie become one of my favorite Pixar movies
Watching this gives me SOOOO much nostalgia for this *AMAZING* Finding Nemo video game that came out about a year after the movie came out. My husband and I LOVED this video game.
One of the best animated movies of all time and soundtrack. The visuals with the music is unreal
In the beggining: "You think you can do these things, but you just can't, Nemo!"
In the end: "You're right. I know you can."
YESSSS! Another classic comfort movie
This film is definitely one of my favourites from Pixar! I always find it emotional to watch and I can relate to Dory in so many ways because of having ADHD!
I'm so sorry for your loss, Nick. :( Death is no fun for anyone.
My favorite reaction channel and my favorite childhood movie? Nick you are spoiling us 😭 Your reactions to these movies are just the sweetest. After this video I'm off to rewatch your Treasure Planet reaction for the billionth time
I love your reaction videos Nick, and I love this film. My #1 favorite Pixar movie of all time 😍
Willem DaFoe, even though he makes a great Gil, but he makes a FANTASTIC Green Goblin!
I always forget William Dafoe is in this. He’s really amazing in everything lol.
Another childhood favourite, any movie invoicing a father/child relationship has a special little spot in my heart. They're just not done enough 💚
I loved watching this commentary, and that's because we got to watch something cool in my opinion. You always talk about how much you love water and how cool/beautiful/amazing it looks. And you become impressed on how animation can make it look so real. But at the same time you genuinely have a fear of what can be in the ocean, and that doesn't make you like the water any less. Lol just thought it was cool
I just realized after what happened to Merlins wife and other kids, he moved house and its isolated from most fish
"Except stinkin dolphins..."
Well seeing as dolphins can kill a shark, not surprising.
Especially orca whales
And dolphins are horrible in real life too. They're sexual aggressive and eat their own kids for no reason.
I deeply love this movie - it's my favourite animated film of all time! My coworker and I used to quote this to each other on shift. She even wrote the entire song from Mr. Ray on my cup once! Even though I've seen it more times than I can count, I still jump when Bruce arrives, so don't feel bad about that :)
28:46 yes, yes it is! Fantastic Mr. Fox, a movie on my list, is another movie where he's a voice actor!
it's the family stuff that gets me the most emotionally in any film or tv so this one has always been a favourite of mine and i cry every time

@@strawberrysoulforever8336 true, a lot of fish can look pretty scary up close
@@SebasTian58323 Clownfish are still quite cute, though. For awhile, the biggest department store in our town had a little aquarium with clownfish and blue dory fish near the entrance. Dory in Finding Nemo was amazing.
Her energy and delivery in finding Dory just wasn’t the same…
She’s the best in this film
I love how she's the comic-relief, but has the underlying tragedy of her short-term memory as well as her lost family. It makes her likable.
I watched this movie over and over, nonstop, when it came out and I was 9 or 10 years old. Looking at your reaction... My God, it holds up, no nostalgia filter, I'm remembering how tight the dialogue is and how natural the actors sound, the way the animators use the fact that the characters are fish underwater to just bounce them all over the screen in a dazzling way, and of course the ocean scenery - they studied like mad to make sure they could simulate water properly, and it holds the heck up. And the story! A startlingly emotional story about parenthood and past trauma, told through tiny fish. One of the best films of all time, and I don't just mean in animation.
Nick, I understand your phobia of Sharks. No need to be afraid of them, they only attack surfers due to confusion of seals. They're more afraid of you than you are of them.
In addition, you can maybe get over your shark fear by taking baby steps.
