    I am incredibly excited for devices once we get the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 as it has the new efficiency cores that ARM has FINALLY released. We were stuck with A55 for 5 years. Sadly it's on TSMC 4nm though and not their new 3nm.

    • @ekinteko
      @ekinteko Год назад +6

      ARM has been developing the ARMv9 second generation cores. But the ones we get next year (A715) are similar to this year's, with a minor refresh. All in all, they're about equal to the Cortex A78 but built on newer lithography and on a new Secure Platform.
      It'll be on the TSMC 4nm node, which is the same/refresh as the TSMC 5nm. But it's still better than the Samsung node we had early this year.
      So don't expect miracles. It'll be slightly better than the QC 8g1+, which was slightly better than the MTK Dimensity 9000, which was slightly better than the old QSD 870.
      I'm still waiting for the Cortex-A730 cores, and TSMC 3nm. That's going to be a worthwhile upgrade. And there's also Apple's next-gen processor, which also got pushed back a year, and will debut in late-2023 as the A17-Bionic chipset and M3-family of processors.

    • @ekinteko
      @ekinteko Год назад +1

      @@Hobo_X Just as Bullet Punch said, the A510 and A515 don't have much improvement from the architecture side.
      If there's any improvement it comes from the implementation and node shrink.
      And while you may be disappointed with the A55, that itself is very similar to the A53. All the newer iterations simply trade power for performance, they don't actually extend the efficiency (not in a meaningful way). And I don't think there's anything on the roadmap from ARM for future improvements (eg Cortex-A530). Remember we are talking about a core, with 2013 technology, basically a decade old.
      Contrast to Apple, who has been focusing less in their performance cores and more on their efficiency cores. And it shows. Certain tests yield a x3 efficiency advantage to Apple, they're able to run much faster AND on less power than the A53 and iterations. If you removed the two BIG cores out of the A15, it would still perform pretty fast, around 2017-levels, and have great battery life. Can't say the same about the QC 8g1+ or lower chipsets.

The only drawback is that its on a Snapdragon 710 and is running android 8.1.0. If they made a MOQI i8 with up to date hardware, on the latest build of android, it would be an incredible handheld.

      iPhone can run roque squadron 2 at 1080 p tho which is insane when this has 18gb ram and it had to do native instead. It dipped down a bit too to 57 ish it seemed but iphone went to 54 but basically stood at 60 at a higher resolution . I’d say because of the processor that iPhone probably handles GameCube a bit better in certain games and certain other emulators but In general even as a daily phone (I have both) I prefer android all the way. More accurate options on android as well and windows only some accurate emulators are on iOS and mac

I was playing final fantasy 10 ps2 on it so ended up playing 6 and 9 In the meantime. Also got a google pixel Xl 2016 which runs emulation decently but since it’s only 4gb ram and snapdragon 821 it can’t run ps2 or GameCube that well it’ll boot into Pokémon on 3ds but then slow down a lot pass the professor screen. I also got a iPhone 13 But yeah android is better for emulation even tho iPhone can run it well since it’s using a pc and having to refresh the app etc so often to me it’s not even worth it especially since theirs more console emulators on android as well iPhone doesn’t have a good ps2 emulator and it has no switch emulator or 3ds

      They bumped down the screen from the RM7. The RM7 technically has the better screen of the two. The colors are more accurate and it is brighter (it's the one that I like the most). This combination of new processor and different AMOLED panel gives a 40% power cut over my RM7, so that's much better than the 30% advertised from just switching to the 8+Gen1 alone.

      @@TakiUdon At this point, there's very little difference between the latest QC 8g1+, and other flagship chipsets. Even the QSD 855 holds up pretty well.
      The exception is going to be emulating PS Vita games, and NSwitch games. But those emulators aren't there yet to make a difference, and by the time they are ready, we would have a much more powerful chipset available anyways. I would get this chipset moreso to get perfect Wii emulation (x4 upscaled ?) or lower systems.
      I said the same thing years ago when the Cortex A72/A73 hit the market, and people were keen on emulation. For the PSP and Dreamcast, buy now. For 3DS and PS2, don't hold your breath. That was my advice, and it seems to have held.

    Yeah their phones are relatively cheap but red magic pushes out a new model every couple months. They're a smaller company. And they don't exactly focus on software or support. They're always changing hardware in each model to justify their new releases, think their cooling system is up to version 9.0 or so already. It's a huge gamble.
