I went to school in Baarn along the railway, I use Soestdijk as a station, my parents are buried in Soest along the railway, I live near Soest Zuid, I go shopping in Den Dolder, my mother lay in state in Bilthoven, I went to school in Overvecht along the railway plus I studied in Utrecht using this train. This line is my life.
I was born in Soest-Zuid, went to school in Baarn only by bicycle, but from 18 yo, studying in Utrecht, I used this railway during winter. In the rest of the year (only without rain) I used my bicycle to go to university in Utrecht. We had friends near station Soest at the Middelwijkstraat so we sometimes took the train from Soest-Zuid to Soest which covers 1 kilometer without paying for a ticket. Two minutes of anxiety but never caught by the train conductor.
@panlomito Nice story though. I usually take this line everyday when I'm going to school in Utrecht. (At Utrecht Science Park) Even though its a bit faster if I would go by bus, I like going by both train and tram as it travels comfortable for me. Sometimes when I have to go to Amersfoort I always doubt how I would get there as going by public transport to Amersfoort is not the fastest way for me. (I live nearby station Soestdijk so yeah) And as I'm too lazy to cycle to Amersfooet I mostly take the train towards Baarn and then exchange for the train to Amersfoort or I take the bus/train to Soest-Zuid and then the bus to Amersfoort.
High video quality, speedometer, background statistics, this is on the same level as Don Coffey's videos in the UK. Top notch. The moving position on the route is a nice touch 👍
Trains have to run in all weathers, so I think that it doesn't matter if the view is in the rain or in fine weather. What matters is showing an interesting driver's eye view train run. Thank you. 🙂
I am a retired streetcar motorman. Rainy days were my favorite days to work. I just found it to be relaxing, not just for me, but for the passengers too.
Just filmed one, Amsterdam to Arnhem, soon to be posted - if you don't mind the window fogging up along the way for a couple of minutes (new to these filming conditions..).
This has always been my favourite part of the Netherlands railway network - it's a very compact line and away from the big cities. Some great videos again this year, Vincent. Keep up the great work. Vrolijk Kerstfeest!
Hello from a British driver! That was a nice run. :) I have to be honest, I was waiting for the extremely slippery bits and wondering where they were... I guess you have an expectation of better leaf-fall track quality than we do! I mostly drive class 170 DMMUs, which are atrocious on damp rail - most of those stations, I would have been struggling to get more than notch 2 (~25%) power from a stand without wheelspin and more than step 1 brake (~30%) would have been guaranteed wheelslide. Unfortunately it's not possible for me to make an equivalent leaf-fall video as on my company it's been made very clear to us that even having our own camera in the cab is a sacking offence. :( (Any UK cab-view videos posted on RUclips have been taken with the company's agreement, likely by a separate cameraman who's accompanied by a driver's manager and so on. They're not the driver-using-their-own-equipment that we see from mainland Europe. If they haven't then the driver's either no longer working for the company concerned or is in big trouble if they get caught.) Happy New Year, have a great 2024 - and stay safe! :)
Hi, thanks! This SNG has a superb anti lock and anti spin system. Our Virm and Icm also are a disaster to accellerate during these conditions. Happy New Year!
@@CabviewHolland I enjoyed the video. I think that I heard some occasions when the motor increased speed faster than normal for just a moment before settling back to normal acceleration. Were those wheel slip or my over-active imagination? Cheers from Australia.
enjoyed the rainy content a lot, it reflects what the Netherlands can be like and also shows the nice autumn day very well. Those fluctuations in the speed of the driving wheels was really obvious too. For sure a slippery track!
If the rain is not so heavy as to hinder visibility, the only negative is the noisy windshield wipers. Very scenic overall. The texts are informative and add a lot.
This specific line is sometimes an absolute life saver when I need to go to Utrecht/Baarn without my parents. Love it so much, to the point I've basically memorised when a train arrives at the SZ station XD (live really close to the Soest Zuid station myself)
I really like the scenery, especially the Dutch Mountains as portayed in this particular video. I have visited here a few times and tripped over one when I wasn't looking...
Actually, in Soest, to the left of the track, there is a Dutch mountain called the "Engh". That's why the line makes such a bend to drive around it. When I was a student and had to cross it twice a day, it really felt like a "mountain"...
Hi Vincent. The scenery was beautiful in its autumn colours. Rain is OK, but the wipers need to be cleaned so that we don't get the scraping sound. Wishing you and your family a very Merry Xmas and all best wishes for the New Year.
