OH MY, That was the best 4 and a half hours I've spent in a very long time! I watched the live chat and this premier. The live chat had so much info. But in watching it in full screen on my TV, it felt as if I was in the cab with you. It gave me the chance to look around at everything. My you have a wonderful country, and the view from your corner office is to die for. I found in this premier, if I put my curser over the pause button, it stated the stops and other info at the bottom of the screen. I hope it works in the regular videos. Any way, thank you! and I hope I catch the next Live chat. Happy Trails.
RailCowGirl: Your train ride has a mystical quality about it: a kaleidoscope of fall colors softened by a curtain of fog; you had to enjoy this ride! P.S. --- I call it fog in the fall and mist in the spring (of course I also believe Rocky Road ice cream occupies the top triangle in the food pyramid). Best of the season to you . . .
I'm an American, but my Norwegian ancestry runs deep. I have to get over there and experience this one day. I watch this stuff for hours, it never gets old. I missed my calling in life. I wish I could get into engineering, if not in Norway, then maybe the mountains of Colorado out west.
Diddo to all of what you said. But did we really miss our callng? I am still aiming for it in my 40's . well into them. Cheers to you and may you have a wonderful day.
I bet it's quite a contrast at this time of year :D Since you guys are so much further south, and obviously west :p hehehe ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ stay safe, responsible and healthy :D
What a wonderful trip. I would like to share with you something that happened to me watching this video, listening to good music. A kind of little revelation. All the places we love, the music we always remember with a smile on our face, that moments we revive in our mind where we felt plentiful, happy, that nothing else mattered, that very moment with beloved people, or in solitude. All those things have something in common, we lived, experienced the PRESENT MOMENT, where time, problems, thoughts or even feelings and emotions are irrelevant, we forget about what happened in the past, and do not care about what is about to come, we do not drain our vital energy in things that, at the end, are not really important. So, we must learn to live the present moment, with no time, be wise enough to plan or think about how to keep some control just what is needed. We must always make time, to be present, to connect with ourselves, with life, with what make us transcend the barriers and limits of our mind, and connect with our soul and spirit, in order to be complete beings. I apologize for my primitive english, i just wanted to share this with you. Thanks a lot, i really enjoyed the video.
These Rail Cow girl videos are simply the best. I love watching them over and over from here in Wellington, New Zealand. I know the Voss to Bergen route intimately. I'd love to do it in real life. Thanks Rail Cow Girl, whoever you are.

Just found your channel. Absolutely love it. I live in the UK, which has its share of picturesque train journeys. With the pandemic I work from home, which I love, but I have also considerably reduced the number of train journeys I made in a year. In fact I only traveled by train once since 2020. When I'm home and bored, I watch these railway journeys and it just brightens my day.
I was supposed to do my essay today but honestly I sat down and just enjoyed the entire video. I really needed this, online school is hard and being so detached from the world because of covid does not make it any easier. Is that "graffiti" train that passed at 2:30 the same one I see parked in the Bergen yard in some videos? And what are those bags on both sides of the track at Voss? I've seen bags like that along the tracks here and there in other videos and always wondered about them. How mysterious and misty as you drive away from Voss. Niiiice!
Hahaha! It's noticeably less activity outside for obvious reasons :p I think that goes for the whole world. I Just hope that we're able to adapt soon, so we can kind of go back to a "normal".
Until we reach Mjolfjell (sorry....on my keyboard I have no idea about how to write that "o" of your language) the greens of late summer fight with autunm...From there ahead fall explodes in its golden sinphony....Definitely Autumn is my favorite season at the Bergen line!!!!
Really enjoying this. Except for the style of the buildings, it looks so much like our West Highland Railway Line which I can see high on the hills across the Loch from our house. I wish their was a 4K can ride video of our WHR.
Those bags contains the old soles and clips for the rails. They have been changing them at that section, and the bags will be picked up as soon as they're finished with the whole project. Thanks a lot for watching!
What are the two tunnels diverging to the left at 1:33:37? They seem more like World War II or Cold War era hardened sites than places to store or work on equipment.
Nope, the two tracks goes into the mountain where the power converters are stored. Simply put, that's where the generators that converts the power from the power grid and feeds it to the railway :)
@@RailCowGirl Interesting. I've seen a similar pair of tunnels on another route. I can't think of any electrical substations in the US housed that way. Here, they're outdoors, or in buildings in harsh climates. BTW, I teach an introductory course in railway engineering to mostly civil engineering seniors and grad students, and have used screenshots from some of your videos (with credit) to illustrate features. I even have one "mystery" image where I speculate on there being an obscure Nordic sport involving jumping over the tracks: One mountainside section has substantial fences on top of rock outcrops on the downhill side, but the fences do not appear to be continuous. Do you have an answer for those?
Well, your videos are amazing. I love to lay on the couch and to watch the beautiful scenery of Norway. Thank you very much, keep going and best wishes from Germany.
Rubber soles and clips for the rails :) The bags contained new ones, now they contain the old ones, and as soon as they're done they will pick up the bags :)
Masterful editing. hehehe :p We were waiting there for about 3 minutes :D The west bound was supposed to be waiting for us :) But that is OK :D 3 minutes is manageable :)
Do you get any feed back from your company that your vids are raising awareness of travel by train either for business or pleasure? Increasing ridership? I know if I ever make it to your country I will be taking some of the routes you travel. There are roads and places in the states I still have not been to and I am close to 70 now. I would think it is the same for some in your country. You can live in a place and not know all great locations you can visit.
That's true. Why travel the world, when you haven't seen all the greatness in your neighbourhood? But of course, it's nice to see places far away sometimes too :) My company doesn't really specify it, but I know there's a lot of people who would like to travel to Norway because they have seen my videos. Have been away for too long from your videos ! Last time I watched, you were HinduCowGirl, and the line had just been taken over under the new scheme. Now that it has been a number of months, has a lot changed because of the franchising of the railway? My memory may be faulty, but your video seems to have many more freight trains. My imagination or has there been an increase in freight trafffic ? I noticed some yellow/orange switch heaters. Are these new ? Are the tracks still onwed by the government and only the trains are operated privately, or have the tracks also changed hands? Is it my imagination or are there new signs on bloc signals with a 3 letter code and numbers? (such as the one at Geilo). At the very end, as you show the train pulling out, some of the carriages are green with some word on it (couldn't read it). Is the the same rolling stock as before but slowly being painted to a new livery? Or are these carriages from another line that are now mixed with yours? Also, in the tunnels I noticed very poor visibility at times. Hadn't seen that in prevoius videos. Is this just fog inside tunnel due to tunnels being colder than outside and humid air condences inside? or have the new operators started to use diesel locos on some trains and these are leftover smoke from a diesel train?
First of all, congrats for all the train ride videos on this channel! Second, I would like to ask a question - the freight train from the beginning of the video looks old and unusual. Can you tell me pls what kind of freight train is it? What kind of products does it carry?
Hello, It should not be a problem whether it's filmed in 50fps today. The monitor will adjust to whatever frequency it is fed :) If I switched to 60fps then all lights her would flicker in the recording since I'm living in 50hz grid land ;) Besides the camera don't support higher than 50fps at the resolution I'm filming in :)
@@RailCowGirl little by little over the evolution of linux, I lost the choice of frame rates: I only have 60Hz: more and more they abandoned the PAL system to leave only the NTSC, this which works is therefore 30fps and multiples of 30, moreover, most media such as tablets or smartphones are only 60Hz compatible with 30. 50fps is the least compatible of the media, it would be better to do 30fps, or otherwise 25fps, but not 50. Is your camera restricted for Europe? that's the problem with big cameras, otherwise it looks great in picture quality
I like this video very much. But, I'd like to see a photo of the train we were in (the type of train), I'd love to know about the speed of the train and also would appreciate to know the length of some of the tunnels the train passes through.
At the end of the video you see the whole exterior of the train as it leaves from Ål station after the crew change. Length of tunnels etc has been added to later videos.
@@RailCowGirl Thank you, but I haven't finished the voyage yet! Anyway it would be interesting to show the train or a photo of a similar, before the trip! Keep on the good work!
Those white bags used to contain the new clips and soles. for the rails :) Now they contain the old ones, and will be picked up as soon as they've finished the job :)
wow... that autumn mist made it so magic and mysterious and beautiful ........... I can go where no one else can go I know what no one else knows Here I am just a-drownin' in the rain With a ticket for a runaway train And everything seems cut and dried Day and night, earth and sky Somehow I just don't believe it Runaway train, never going back Wrong way on a one-way track Seems like I should be getting somewhere Somehow I'm neither here nor there
Did you ever use the program "Train Simulator" (I know, it's like a busdriver's holiday) and if so, how did you do (honestly). If you want to be on a wild ride, have me at the controls but make sure your insurance is up to date and wear a seatbelt. I do better on my HO train layout but do not guarantee mishaps. Thank you so much for another great journey thru Norway, my country is just flat and boring (Netherlands), you're blessed with one of the greatest jobs in one one of the greatest environments in the world! I envy you 😘
That would have been too many hours. We are allowed to drive for 5 1/2 hour consecutive. After that we need a mandatory break off the engine that lasts for at least 40 minutes. A Shift can not contain more than 10h active driving within a shift. With that we're not able to do a run the whole way. But it is possible to do raid driving. Drive from Bergen to Ål, have a break there and then continue with the next train, and the same back the day after from Oslo. But as of now that is not something we do as it is on the limit when it comes to hours. The last thing you want is a driver with fatigue operating the train.

little by little over the evolution of linux, I lost the choice of frame rates: I only have 60Hz: more and more they abandoned the PAL system to leave only the NTSC, this which works is therefore 30fps and multiples of 30, moreover, most media such as tablets or smartphones are only 60Hz compatible with 30. 50fps is the least compatible of the media, it would be better to do 30fps, or otherwise 25fps, but not 50.
Another great video!! Like!
Thank you! Cheers!
At 1:22:24 - that's the first time I've actually seen a vehicle on the road way up there!
SHIT SHIT HAPPENS
What are the white bags alone the track coming out of Voss?
Those white bags used to contain the new clips and soles. for the rails :) Now they contain the old ones, and will be picked up as soon as they've finished the job :)
@@RailCowGirl Thank you. Your always so kind to answer my questions.
It goes sharp then softens up then goes sharp again. Like it's not making enough keyframes.
That's in 1080
RUclips compression, choose 2160p :)
wow... that autumn mist made it so magic and mysterious and beautiful
...........
I can go where no one else can go
I know what no one else knows
Here I am just a-drownin' in the rain
With a ticket for a runaway train
And everything seems cut and dried
Day and night, earth and sky
Somehow I just don't believe it
Runaway train, never going back
Wrong way on a one-way track
Seems like I should be getting somewhere
Somehow I'm neither here nor there
Thank you :D ❤️
Not long until the Snow comming back. In Finnland our Family Members have allready some light snow powder ,next days up to 10 cm.
Not long until we have it here either. It's already fresh snow in the mountains. Thanks for watching.
I love you! 💓
☺️
Another Great Trip form RCG! You are my Favorite train jockey!!! Thank You!!!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you so much!
For an absolutely enjoyable train ride I love to watch your presentations.
I have TSW myself. Needed to see if it was anything close to reality and trying out other countries train protection systems. Quite interesting :)
What time, dou you leav Voss, I can se its getting darker and darker.

Do the white bags along the tracks contain rail spikes for tie replacement ?
Clips and soles :D You're so correct :D But now they contain the old ones, and they will be collected as soon as they're done with the job :)

Thank you so much for another great journey thru Norway, my country is just flat and boring (Netherlands), you're blessed with one of the greatest jobs in one one of the greatest environments in the world! I envy you 😘
Glad you enjoy it! Thanks for watching!
Super movie. Probably it would be even more beautiful in the sun. But this is the written aura for autumn. Best regards from Poland.
Yes :D I was kind of hoping for sunshine, but this, this was so epic because of the dramatic clouds etc really putting Autumn in the front seat :D
Abraço de Portugal !!
Thank you for watching!
I listen and watch this while studying right now and it completely calms me... thank you so much for your videos
Thank you so much!
12:14
Thanks for watching!
skip to 5:12 (Frist 5:12 is wasted time)
Lol, a lot of people enjoy the intro, but feel free to skip it if you don't :)
Just a quick Q - do you never have a shift between Oslo and Bergen in full or is it always half the way?
That would have been too many hours. We are allowed to drive for 5 1/2 hour consecutive. After that we need a mandatory break off the engine that lasts for at least 40 minutes. A Shift can not contain more than 10h active driving within a shift.
With that we're not able to do a run the whole way. But it is possible to do raid driving. Drive from Bergen to Ål, have a break there and then continue with the next train, and the same back the day after from Oslo. But as of now that is not something we do as it is on the limit when it comes to hours.
The last thing you want is a driver with fatigue operating the train.
Can`t wait for the night-time video! As always a great pleasure to watch your videos!
Awesome! Thank you so much for your support!
Another fine video. Love the fog (or low clouds). Thanks for the hard work! 👍
Thank you so much ❤️ :D It was eye candy trip for sure ❤️
Went away for a couple of hours, hadn't watched the whole thing. I'd swear it's at least ten minutes longer than it was before.
hahah! :D The intro is longer than before since there was some action at Voss :D
Seeing lots of new catenary as the older wood mounting poles get replaced, and lots of new trackwork as well.
True, they are working hard to get everything ready for the conversion to ERTMS/ETCS
The area around the Voss station has transformed since I was there just a few years ago. So built up now.
Yes, a lot has happened in the last couple of years. Thanks for watching!
I love that landscape
Me too! Thanks for watching!
@RailCowGirl That Was Fun, I Liked the Video, And It Was Nice Seeing Night Come In Quickly.
Thank you :D See you again soon :D
