  • Best 22 pistol ever? Not sure, but this would be a finalist! The Mark IV series of Ruger pistols set the bar pretty high in terms of reliability, ease of use, take down and reassembly and also number of variations. This the lighter of the two variants of the 22/45 version. It offers a rail to mount your accessories like red dots, lasers, grenade launchers, etc. It is chambered in 22lr and has a grip angle similar to a 1911. These are fun at the range, economical to use and a pleasure to own.

    I bought one of these MK IVs about 3 years ago to be a family trainer. It is a good choice to complement a Commander size 1911 when you need something lighter. Coming from a 1911, the updated thumb saftey is closer to a 1911. Transitioning between the MK IV and the 1911 for me is pretty easy and the family can handle it pretty well. Out of the box it is a nice gun and you could probably get away with leaving it as is. Like HS mentions, the sights aren't the greatest. I just recently installed a set of Williams Firesights. If you get only one upgrade, this is the one to get. Along with the sights, I've installed a Tandomkross Victory trigger, Compensator and their Charging ring. Over all I've been happy with the MK IV.

    I installed a Volquarsten trigger in my 22/45 standard Mark 4. It was a minor pain but certainly doable to the amateur gunsmith. It made a significant difference in the groups. Trigger went from 5 lbs down to 3. Very accurate.22 in my opinion. Thanks for the review.

      Did similar on a 22/45 Lite Mark4. Added the Volquartsen accurizing kit (and had them install at the factory to make sure it was done right) + Hogue rubber wraparound grips, a quality red dot sight and a SilencerCo Sparrow suppressor it is such an easy and accurate shooter. I love this thing for plinking and it is the BEST gun to introduce a new shooter to. The light recoil, accuracy and quietness (no ear protection requirement) make this thing very un-intimidating for novices.

    Love my Black Mamba barrel setup. It’s like shooting a rifle. Super Accurate. I can hit a two inch sticker, dead center at 35 feet. And I installed a Volquartsen trigger and had an issue. Victor took care of it and was super responsive. Would highly recommend Volquartsen they are very customer centric.

    wow i like that blue Mark III! I have a Mark II from when I used to collect/shoot in the early 90s and just got back into it again and got this one you're showing and also one in red! (I used to say I was the ruger girl because my first guns were all ruger) but I love that blue!

    2:10 "cap also centers the barrel" ... I don't know about that, behind that thread protector is a barrel nut, which locks the barrel into the frame.

    at the gun store they sold magazines that fit both the mark 3 and 4 regular Ruger pistols, but the 45 models were a different magazine because of the angle.

    Great platform, especially in the MKIV version. The upgrades available raise the bar for sure. With the new Taurus TX22 Comp, and the SIG P322, this (and the S&W 22) becomes less attractive imo due to capacity. All are solid performers in my experience.

    I really enjoyed watching your video. Very informative. You explained clearly and in detail. Thank you very much for a great review. If you don't mind me asking how much rounds have you fired on it so far? Are there any ammo that are troublesome for this model?

    All 22/45 are polymer lowers. All steeper angled frames are either aluminum or stainless. The aluminum upper is what makes the “lite” series.

    Instead of buying new magazines for the Mk 4, you can but replacement M4 baseplates that will work on Mk 2, Mk3, & Mk 4's..... Been there done that.

    I bought the plain bull barrel model for around $400, adding a rail was another 20$. The 'lite' barrel and the threaded barrel are unnecessary expense unless you really need one.

      @@akclan33 no, but lots of people like to to put a muzzle device on it and a non-threaded barrel wouldn’t allow for that.

    The cap centers the barrel? So if the cap is off and a suppressor is on, then the supressor centers the barrel? That doesn't sound right. Ruger wouldn't design it to rely on any weird suppressor to center the barrel.

    • @davido5058
      @davido5058 Год назад

      The cap, and supressor if you remove the cap and go that route, DOES center the barrel. Considering the supressor becomes the barrel in extension a user would most definitely want the barrel and supressor or compensator to be in direct alignment, anything less would be quite negative. I have the Davidson's Mark IV with Dead Air Mask HD pairing and it's the most fun I've had in .22lr in my 47 years.

    • @Gruuvin1
      @Gruuvin1 Год назад +1

      @@davido5058 thanks for the reply. I've been a Ruger fan for a while, and I've been on the lookout for a stainless Mark IV for a while. Mark IV prices are through the roof, and it seems these light 22/45 versions are easier to find. But the quality of design and materials is just not there in a 22/45 compared to an all-steel Mark IV. All of them are too expensive. I'm not sure what Ruger is up to.

    • @charleslemak2173
      @charleslemak2173 Год назад

      @@Gruuvin1 Agreed. I just picked up the 22/45 Lite, and it's a fun piece, but no comparison in quality to my MkII. While the new MKIV functions fine, the factory trigger is long and gritty. I'm getting the trigger upgrade kit, but I shouldn't have to spend $120. on top of the $500. plus I paid for the pistol, just to get it to shoot as well as a factory Buckmark, or earlier Ruger MKII.
