Bro, I got the FR-10 and I can never look back. Seriously, tune in an SRV tone, it's like I'm playing through a twin reverb, dial up an Eric Johnson I'm playing through that amp/cab. It's INSANE..If you haven't tried that thing through an FR-10 or FR12, I highly suggest you do. I think you will be blown, away.

I wasn't the only one!? Luv ya, Rob (no homo...🤣) but I thought that intro tone sounded HORRENDOUS!! I just got a III and...dude...you'd fucking LOVE IT!! There are amps in there, specifically made for metal, that don't even exist in the real world! FAS Stealth Blue comes to mind...sounds SO SICK!!! Why are you using this thing? I'm going to make this post in the main chat too as I'm legit curious.
I just got out of the cave too, haha! I just got a HeadRush MX5 to try different tones, and I love it too! You should try one too. It's very affordable and sounds beautiful.
All these companies should steal the "Stompbox" mode thats on the GT-1000 series. It operates how'd you think, any effect put into this mode will change across patches. Pretty cool.
Oh that's cool! Good to know if I use a solid state device that doesn't specify the impedance! (Luckily the KSR PA-50 has a specific impedance that is selectable) the a/b sound between before and after external cab was really noticeable EVEN on my phone speakers.... I'll bet it makes it feel way better in person
Great vid man. Not sure if you caught any of my TMP videos but it's been my favorite digital unit out of everything else on the market. I tried the ext cab block and a few impedance curves for running to a power amp and cab and felt like it got in the way of the sound shaping I usually do when running digital stuff to my Power Station. Try amp blending if you want to get some unique sounds. I did a vid on blending multiple amps and cabs together to get a bigger sound.
You really have that thing dialed in. I’ve only heard a few in person and wasn’t too impressed but I think those folks didn’t spend any time with the tones and just used presets
I need to learn more about the High Cut/Low CUT and how/why the KHz matter. I've been using my Fender Mustang 3 but it's outdated. I found a 50w BOSS Katana MK2 and it has a Live Studio I found a 50w BOSS Katana and it has earned my respect so far.
Low n high cuts are pretty simple once you get a basic understanding of it and eq in general. I highly recommend learning, makes a huge difference to your tone once you begin to manipulate eq's, weather its a some basic eq pedal into an amp/cab or with digital modelling.
Maybe check out this video, as it may help you start to understand some more about eq'ing guitars, and eq in general. ruclips.net/video/z4ELkt5zGh8/видео.html
Hey Rob great video I just have never understood why TMP got so much hate when it came out saying just buy a Fractal or QC and they are phenomenal as well but the Fender TMP like I said sounds great. I would definitely love to have one you wouldn’t hear me bitch’n about it!! The TMP is a dream piece of gear for me. Thanks for all of your great content bro 🤟🏻Rock on.
Great video and hope you report back after rehearsals. I found the same issue with modelers. On their own live it is mostly ok. But when side by side with a real tube amp you hear how they are still either thin, flat, boomy, dark, or harsh and have trouble sitting in the mix. It’s like you can’t get them right. And as a sound guy hearing them back to back with real amps, the modelers fall apart unless you have a big PA to where stage sound doesn’t matter. If this is what solves that, it would be an instant buy for me.
Great video . Was really looking into getting one of these and this answered some of my questions on how to hook it up to a powerstage and cab. Hopefully fender made this thing pretty solid so we dont need a Tone Master Pro v2 next year lol. If Fractal goes touch screen it will be a tough choice. I really dont like deep diving on menus forever.
Sic!! (Pun intended) i still have yet to get either the tone master or quad cortex but i definitely want to get one soon! Loving the tones from your tone master!
Just a quick detail. Setting the low cut to 85hz would work best if you were playing in E. Since you usually tune down to C you could set that low filter to 65hz. You can check how to set that filter for other tunings by looking up a "music notes to HZ" list. But of course, everything is to taste.
I typically like to cut *more* low end when using lower tunings. Sounds counterintuitive, but it helps tighten things up and keep the tone focused in the usable guitar range.
...and that's all you get. Take a few minutes to learn something like this (I'm a FAS guy, myself...) and you get hundreds of amps, cabs, effects, mics, everything you could ever want...all at your fingertips. And you can record super easily. AND it's one trip walking into the venue...guitar case in one hand, Axe-FX III in its case in the other.
cool, almost made me want one, i have a set of ir to correct vintage 30 i bought and they work the same. using helix, headrush prime and tonex. listed the helix and prime to get a QC though. doubt they will sell.
Rob, as I understand, this external cab block is not the impulse response, it’s just like the “compensating thing” to let know to TMP, that you are connecting to external cabinet, and you letting him know which your cabinet is. Am I right understanding this? The sound are more natural anyway, hairy and live. I hear it even on a Bluetooth iloud speakers. Sound really killer!
I downloaded your TMP preset. I was looking for a good Heavy sound. And I am pleasantly surprised to see how close your settings are to my own choice of amps and pedals. WE KNOW WHATS UP🤘🏽🤘🏽
Dude, even at home. Was setting up a brand new Boss GX-100 out the box, I fumbled the power supply right above it and it landed right on the touchscreen. Put a deep, half-inch scratch in the screen's bottom corner before i even turned it on for the first time 🤣Sighhh.. lol
Line6 and Fractal have this built into the amp models, Fractal let's you change it, Line6 doesn't. The amp models react a bit different because of negative feedback. But even if you have an amp without negative feedback, it still has an EQ Impact, that a solid state power amp just completely ignores. So either you have it real or digital, and usually so far that's always just been built in to the digital part. Fender for some reason decided to do it this way. Has ups and downs.
Sounds great man and taught me some stuff, thank you! Any reason you’re using the EVH cabinet over an IR? In my experience with this unit 3rd party IR’s sound much better than the stock Tonemaster stuff.
Why do I feel like the now really old Line 6 HD-147 was WAY a head of its time. Sorry for the pun. Wish somebody would compare one to these new things for the same of it. If somebody has I'd love to watch it
Hey Rob any specific reason or preference as to why you chose the tone master over a quad cortex? Just curious, im currently on the fence on which to get.
It’s true. That’s because the djenters use less gain due to their typically super low tunings, so it’s kind of taken over the scene at the moment. I’m all for more gainy tones.
Luv ya, Rob (no homo...🤣) but I thought that intro tone sounded HORRENDOUS!! The tone after the external cab stuff in the middle was better, but it still doesn't sound "whoa" to me...why are you using this thing, Rob? Why not a FM9/Axe-FX III? I just got a III and...dude...you'd fucking LOVE IT!! There are amps in there, specifically made for metal, that don't even exist in the real world! FAS Stealth Blue comes to mind...sounds SO sick!!! Why are you using this thing?
I like this kind of stuff a lot, it all really makes a difference. Caveat is I haven't used a TMP, but I've used modellers live since about 2011 and the first thing I do with a new modelling unit is hit the global EQ with a low pass at right around 6-7khz and high pass somewhere around 90-120hz, depending on how aggressive our bass player is. Guitar speakers, in my experience, don't seem to cope well with that really toppy high end, which I find is where most of the nasty 'digital' sounds come from, or the real sub-bass that these modellers can reproduce if you get too carried away. Don't get me wrong, all that stuff sounds great when you're jamming through monitors or even full blown rigs at low volume, but add volume and it's likely a different story. Interested to see how you get along without any global high/low pass at live/rehearsal volumes. My experience is cabs will fart out and everyone's ears will ring like crazy!
My thinking is that I've never used any filters on my real amps, and so unless it's blatantly necessary, I avoid using them in this scenario as well. But I'm sure I'll continue to tweak things as I use and learn more about it down the line!
This is very interesting, I have a Quad Cortex and ended up using the KSR tube power amp because i was missing that feel that SS doesnt give. I wonder if there is any blocks like this on the quad cortex?
Can someone explain this to me? I’m using an Orange Pedal baby into a 2x12 Mesa cab. I added the block and it does sound more like a real amp, but should it matter? Doesn’t the Orange Pedal baby have SIC built in?
Almost all of my guitars are neck through, but lately I've got a couple that are bolt on. I don't notice any difference, and so I don't really have any preference!
@@RobArnoldWorld Thank you, I APPRECIATE you taking the time to answer. I have the exact same rig! How did that bag do protecting the pro master? Awesome videos Rob.
Try going into your output settings. There are different perimeters for controlling headphone output vs, output 1 and output 2. Perhaps you need to make some adjustments there first, before adjusting your main volume.
If they just would put options under that sic settings like 4x12 v30 8ohm or whatever they have all the named cab selections set as in there cause I doubt they have a list of what exact ohm or watts they are modeling etc just my thoughts
@@bvaladez74 I mean…hardware has a limit to how far into the future it can receive updates to have more fidelity. I did hear the FM3 is sounding nice, but I think fractal’s complacency is starting to become more apparent.
@@thisguy2973 I mean OBVIOUSLY that's an assumption and you don't own any of the current Fractal models. If you did, we clearly wouldn't be having this conversation. I have a Quad Cortex, Helix floor, Axe FX III Turbo. I bought a TMP and returned it. It was ok, it's pretty, but unfortunately didn't match up to the others. You can also tell Rob is struggling to love it. Fractal is anything but complacent, dated, and lacking fidelity. It is still the top of the food chain tonally and flexibility-wise, used by a ton of high profile pros. Constantly adding more amps, more features and tonally better and better. The real amp feel and touch sensitivity is untouchable. The hardware is anything but limiting. Maybe educate yourself on the product before speaking on it? It steers people in an inaccurate direction. At the same time, to each his own. Right?
@@thisguy2973 Not at all....never heard it as well. Helix for exampe is >10 years old, nothing changed (apart from new blocks/models). Fractal received several firmware updates, some of them upgrading the whole modeling technology (Cygnus) as well!
@@RobArnoldWorld dude thats badass any pitch shifting device I have used for my guitar. I’ve always experienced that issue mostly from the digitech l drop and a Behringer FX pedal with the drop tune setting. Finally a product thats worth every penny 👌👌
Arghhhh another reason why I don't like digital modellers / capture units etc... yeah they sound good but often you have to jump through so many hoops or wait for updates to fix something to get a great tone versus just turning a few dials on a good tube amp and being all set.
I own an AXE FX III and the amp sims are night and day better than the TMP. The TMP is a cool unit, nice suite of effects, a better visual UI, but held back by it's over processed "ice pick-y" sound on anything beyond "Fender Twin" bark. I've tried it a handful of times and there is this high frequency buzz that haunts nearly all of the higher gain sounds you try to get out of this thing. You need to manually cut ~1700-2000hz on every model to the point that you begin to question the amp sims fundamental sounds. Everything on the Fractal side sounds a lot more balanced and honest to the originals, including the fender equivalents. Fractal also has the upper hand in ROI... The amount of updates these Fractal units get regularly compared to their competition is what really pays off, constant updates on my Axe FX III firmware, sometimes I upgrade past 3 versions and a handful of new amps at a time between update periods. Kind of ridiculous how good Fractal is to it's community. The TMP is also $500 more...heh
Easily the TMP. The fractal can sound just how you want it, and has limitless sound customization and a huge great track record, but its a true nightmare to learn. The tone master pro can get phenomenal sounds in minutes, and is extremely intuitive to use. Using fractal it feels like I have to be a programmer where if I'm using the TMP it feels a lot more like tweaking an amp. Anyone that has owned both knows that it's not actually a night and day difference in sound quality, although the fractal can definitely get closer in my opinion. TMP just gets out of your way and lets you play music, you don't need to invest a lot of time into it just to operate it.
ugh. That's some flubby fizzy crap bruh. You're not suggesting that your toaster can compare to a 6505 in a live setting? That's absolutely impossible.

I found a 50w BOSS Katana MK2 and it has a Live Studio
I found a 50w BOSS Katana and it has earned my respect so far.
Thanks Jake!
Just a quick detail. Setting the low cut to 85hz would work best if you were playing in E. Since you usually tune down to C you could set that low filter to 65hz. You can check how to set that filter for other tunings by looking up a "music notes to HZ" list. But of course, everything is to taste.
Never mind, you dialed out the filters
I typically like to cut *more* low end when using lower tunings. Sounds counterintuitive, but it helps tighten things up and keep the tone focused in the usable guitar range.
Guitar into amp into cab...ready 👍🏼 no digital study needed...
...and that's all you get.
The cab block gave all your effects more teeth that's for sure. Sounds great
For shits & giggles you may want to check out a tube power amp like the KSR line. Will totally add girth to your tone.
Tone sounds mean as fuck Rob! 🤘🤘 What a great breakthrough with that TM Pro. Its the little things in life huh? Lol
cool, almost made me want one, i have a set of ir to correct vintage 30 i bought and they work the same. using helix, headrush prime and tonex. listed the helix and prime to get a QC though. doubt they will sell.
Thanks for the help dialing in all equipment I don't have.😂😂
Rob, as I understand, this external cab block is not the impulse response, it’s just like the “compensating thing” to let know to TMP, that you are connecting to external cabinet, and you letting him know which your cabinet is. Am I right understanding this? The sound are more natural anyway, hairy and live. I hear it even on a Bluetooth iloud speakers. Sound really killer!
Yes exactly!
@@RobArnoldWorld Cool that you improve your sound with that!
I downloaded your TMP preset. I was looking for a good Heavy sound. And I am pleasantly surprised to see how close your settings are to my own choice of amps and pedals. WE KNOW WHATS UP🤘🏽🤘🏽
🤘
@@RobArnoldWorld 🤘🏽🥷🏿🤘🏽
@ right now I’m using a Fender FrFr12. I need a cabinet. Could you recommend one?
Dude, even at home. Was setting up a brand new Boss GX-100 out the box, I fumbled the power supply right above it and it landed right on the touchscreen. Put a deep, half-inch scratch in the screen's bottom corner before i even turned it on for the first time 🤣Sighhh.. lol
Damn... bummer!
Cool vid
The difference is night and day
Line6 and Fractal have this built into the amp models, Fractal let's you change it, Line6 doesn't.
Only because to this day believe or not, I've still never tried using an IR!
sound like HM2 direct to any cab.🤔
Why do I feel like the now really old Line 6 HD-147 was WAY a head of its time. Sorry for the pun. Wish somebody would compare one to these new things for the same of it. If somebody has I'd love to watch it
Wish it could be used for bass. Would like to try something else than my Helix Floor which is limited in DSP
Okey dokey, I'm just a layman. But would there be a difference between the solid state gain stage as opposed to a tube power amp?
So the Fender TM doesn't have scenes or snapshots like for example Fractal Axe Fx and Helix?
I’d be willing to bet that gentleman from Fender’s name begins with a J and he’s a pretty good dude!
😉🎸
Hey Rob any specific reason or preference as to why you chose the tone master over a quad cortex? Just curious, im currently on the fence on which to get.
Only because I had to start somewhere, and I already had a relationship with Fender. So I decided to give it a go!
DISTORTION!! In a world wear everyone is using less gain, I love to hear it!
Why are you using this thing?
...you could actually run both guitar rigs AND the bass all off a single Axe-FX III, too...
Question...how are you doing your screen recording for the Tone Master?
Ahhh...I think you're screen recording your computer, right?
Yes, from my Mac.
@@RobArnoldWorld Excellent. I'm a Mac guy too. Thank you Rob!
@@VaporTrailChannel Yes, it's a wonderful thing! shift+command+5!
That is not subtle! Sounds very good.

Hello Rob .
🕺🏻
in terms of feel, do you like a neck-through set or bolt-on?
Almost all of my guitars are neck through, but lately I've got a couple that are bolt on. I don't notice any difference, and so I don't really have any preference!

Hi, I listen to the Tone Master headphones quietly, I have to turn the volume up to 100% but I always hear quietly, I have AKG141 headphones
Try going into your output settings. There are different perimeters for controlling headphone output vs, output 1 and output 2. Perhaps you need to make some adjustments there first, before adjusting your main volume.
Anything similar in the Headrush products?
16:06 what riff is this?
Driving me nuts!
To the discog!
Not subtle at all...i can A and B tell those INSTANTLY its so clear
If they just would put options under that sic settings like 4x12 v30 8ohm or whatever they have all the named cab selections set as in there cause I doubt they have a list of what exact ohm or watts they are modeling etc just my thoughts
I assume it also improved your freebird patch as well. Play feebird....lol.
💯
In terms of response and authenticity Fractal Audio still is unbeaten...🤘🏻
Ehhh…..I’ve heard that it’s beginning to sound dated.
@@thisguy2973 That's impossible to sound dated with constant firmware updates.
How is the latency when using the pitch shifting?
Non-existent! I think any audible latency would be unacceptable.
@@RobArnoldWorld dude thats badass any pitch shifting device I have used for my guitar. I’ve always experienced that issue mostly from the digitech l drop and a Behringer FX pedal with the drop tune setting. Finally a product thats worth every penny 👌👌
@@spongebob6664 Yeah dude! I haven't noticed any latency with the TMP whatsoever!
Have you tried to jam with it yet to hear that experience? I mean as compared to your other guitarist.
Do you mean since making this new discovery? If so, not yet.
KId with his favorite toys...
Arghhhh another reason why I don't like digital modellers / capture units etc... yeah they sound good but often you have to jump through so many hoops or wait for updates to fix something to get a great tone versus just turning a few dials on a good tube amp and being all set.
TMP or FRACTAL FM9?
Fractal yeh we hand this for 10+ years.
😂😂
Right? I can't believe people are still talking about this Fender bit of hot garbage
What’s the fractal equivalent to this feature? I love my axe 3 and have no issues but hey if it sounds better it sounds better
The tone at the start sounds digital. You know it doesn't sound anywhere close to the peavey
Little thinner and smaller hahahhaha
Lost me hard at "let's go"
