What I absolutely adore about Kanji and Yukiko’s choreography is that I actually think Kanji’s ballet is BETTER than how he usually dances. Which is both incredibly fitting for his character and hilarious.
Maybe he should take it up fully.
Yeah - and the awkwardness at the beginning before he decides to just go for it is totally Kanji. It might not be a 100% dance, but it's 100% what he would do.
As always, Yukiko is better as a foil to other characters than she is on her own.
I honestly can’t decide which is better Yosuke’s killer dancing, Nanako’s precious partner dancing with everyone, or Kanji trying his best partner dancing

As the first dancing persona title, I did make a few observations.
1) they overdid the camerawork and thankfully corrected it with P3 and P5.
2) Yosuke seems like the one who was best partner being able to adapt to everyone’s dancing style.
3) While the dances felt mostly the same for the majority, it did feel like there was a drastic change whenever the partner was Kanji, Nanako or Teddie due to one trying his best and being an absolute madman, one being so adorable that they have no problems slowly down to match her movements and one being in a mascot suit, so goes without saying.
4) Kanji being the best characterization out of everyone. Yeah, Yosuke is the better dancer, but damn it all, Kanji is not only trying, but having fun in the process. That and there’s a reason why some of the best dances has him in it. He looks so foolish doing these moves, but he owns it with no apologies. We salute you, man.

his ballet in the partner dance with yukiko is actually so silly, like he starts out a little awkward before fully having fun, and god damn he goes hard

14:07 something I noticed in Yosuke and Yukiko dancing "your affection" is that they keep their distance, while with Yu and Chie Yosuke was more close, back to back.
These game are so good in potraying the dynamics and character relashionships.
The voicelines for some of these dances I think also adds a lot to them, like with Naoto and Kanji when Naoto says, "Kanji-kun, why is your face all red?", or with Nanako and Yosuke in the Junes dance when he says, "Miss, may I have this dance?" But, my favorite of all time was one that I only got once, where in Yu and Yosuke's Dance! dance, one of the Kanamin Kitchen girls (I don't know their names lol) went, "Wait a sec... Are you two a couple?" That one haunts me.
I may need to get this game based on that alone

Well, they were originally SUPPOSED to be! Yosuke was originally an option to romance, to the point where they even dubbed the line for his confession, but they chickened out last minute. Hell, it’s fairly obvious Yosuke is closeted bisexual considering how he behaves around Yu even post cut romance.
@@StarryOak76 yeah, I downloaded the fan mod to add him back in as soon as I bought the game on Steam because I wasn't gonna let Atlus stop Yu and Yosuke from being gay!
Some more interesting voice lines related to Kanji and Naoto:
After finishing a partner dance with Naoto, Kanji can say “dance with me again, okay?“ in a very soft voice.
When Kanji and Naoto are dancing together, Rise can say “you two would make a cute couple!“.
In the same scenario, Nanako can say “i heard this is called being all lovey-dovey!“.
In short, everyone knows about Kanji and Naoto’s chemistry and Rise is the type of person to ship her friends
Kanji has the same energy I have when attempting to dance of, "Fucking help me. I barely know what the fuck I'm doing." And I respect it.

I really like the similarities in Yosuke and Yu's dancing styles, the protags in each of the dancing games are able to work really well with every character they dance with, a trait that Yosuke also seems to have, which I think is fitting considering just how much Yosuke interacts with the other P4 characters and drives the plot in his own way

Hi there. I have taken apart the game files themselves. P5D and P3D has the partners in a fluent motion, not dependent on the camera. P4D... not so much. It's heavily dependent on the camera, and both dancers teleport around like no ones business. It seems like they perfected it for their next dancing games, and didn't have it perfect for their first go around. Trust me, you don't want to see it without the camera.
This is geniuenly the first "behind the code" thing that I should rather NOT know about, now I can't unnotice it... Still you deserve likes for doing gods work.

Yu and Adachi's might be my favorite of the dancing games. The duality of their dancing and how it incorporates their personality, relationship, and their role throughout the story is amazing. Plus those expressions and choreography are superb.
What's better than a well executed partner dance? Kanji surviving the partner dance an inch away from a car crash.

I WAS NOT READY FOR BALLERINA KANJI
I think my favorite thing about the Adachi/Yu dance is how when they're back to back and Adachi switches to the front, they each hold out and sweep their arms, but Adachi's is pointing at the audience, as if accusatory, while Yu is holding out his hand, palm up, as if inviting the audience. It's a small detail that plays so well into their characters, as well as the other more obvious parts of the dance.
Not sure if I'm alone on this but I think what saves the more lacklustre dances is the vocal interactions. Hearing the characters react to each other's moves and be generally supportive is such a wonderful addition; when you take those out I think all the dances feel slightly lesser

Yosuke and Yukiko were the best supporters imo. Yosuke's being super flexible and adapting, while Yukiko's just out here vibing and it works
Naoto and Yukiko bring every dance up 50 points with their mere presence
And then comes Yusuke who brings up the score of the whole game by 50 with his moves alone.
Atlus made Yosuke in this game so pretty AAAHHH.

I'm glad she got to see Adachi's partner dance with Yu since she didn't see it in her first P4D ranking stream, it's probably my favorite in the game. Yu reaching out his hand and Adachi not only swatting it away but then going for a second hit on him, the way they circle around each other and fight but still synchronize at points, so damn good.
Of course Nanako + anyone and Yu + Yosuke and Kanji + Naoto get the most adorable points, but I can't help loving the groove of Naoto and Yosuke in SoL. Their styles match so bloody well. Same in the Lotus remix.
Speaking of which, did I bug out or was Backside of the TV not here?
Edit: Nevermind, found the full stream. I'm always surprised by how hard the Yosuke and Naoto duets go even though they didn't talk much in the game.
Both of them were the brains of the group so it makes sense in context of that! (Yosuke was the one making majority of the theories before Naoto came, I might be biased towards Yosuke but the interactions between them in this game is honestly really cool!)

Ok, but the one Yu/Nanako dance where she's standing on the side of stage and does a little hop behind him to join in is just the cutest thing ever.
Ok, in light of Crystal's dance with her niece as Yu & Nanako being super cute, I am okay with Crystal leaving the Yu/Nanako dance out of this video.

So long story short, Kanji and Naoto dancing together makes our hearts melt. Really wish they dated each other.

I just realized that like, Yosuke and Yu, while they both have their own styles, are really good at adapting to other people's styles so when they dance together, they can adapt to each other very well. That creates a beautiful dance where they're perfectly in sync, doing these awesome mirroring moves. Plus they're "partners" so they know each other pretty well. That's gotta help. (They are so freaking gay, bro.)
I really like how Yosuke did the Will Smith meme at 38:52. My guy can dance with the best of them.

I feel like the camera decides the fate of these dances
Also I feel the need to point this out in defense of the camera work.. This game was Released in 2015 on the PS Vita and it was originally meant to stay there. On a small system like the vita it'd be hard to capture everything without panning from a wide angle so the camera needs to compensate for that space. I don't think Atlus ever thought the demand for Console ports of P4D would be this high so i doubt they could have planned for that this far ahead. It'd be nice if in the Dance Along modes we could have added the partner dances.
This is also the reason Kanji wasn’t allowed to breakdance and why the stages are much smaller the other dancing games (plays part in why they can’t do as much crazy stuff in their dancing)

I think what makes a lot of P4's Partner dances superior to the majority of the P3 and P5 partner dances is that at least in my opinion, P4 is a lot more character development driven than just story driven so you feel a lot more for the characters, and it's not only used to almost a perfect T, but especially the earlier social links (Yosuke, Chie, Yukiko) and Yu are ALL shown with such their own unique flair akin to Ken/Shinji, Mitsuru/Ken and Makoto/Yukari, but to a much more natural vibe for all of them. In a way these 4 have been together since the very beginning, and a lot of these dances compliment that.
Ok can we talk about that ad transition being actually good????
Unlike the P3 and the P5 partner dances, the ones from P4 tend to teleport and slide across the floor, The one with Yukiko and Rise at 20:37 is a example you could find in game. This does get fixed in the DLC characters (ex: Marie, Adachi, Miku) and in the future dancing games. Then again P4D is older then P5D and P3D.

The most I can describe is that Yu is like the Rice of a curry dish. And his friends are the various toppings and components other than the rice that add flavor. TLDR: Yu is a vehicle and mediator for his friends, but when they partner on his dances specifically, it doesn't seem as good.
Note: Kanji is tall as fuck. And he jumps... so this 6'_" nerd straight up... jumps and it's like... god. And Naoto is so small by comparison... gosh... the perfect friend group.
That being said, I should really read more Yosuke and Yu fanfiction. I've been lacking reading something-- anything outside of a game manual.

I think the persona 4 dancing all night still follows the idea that yosuke was a romancable option in beta versions of persona 4. That was changed for whatever reason. At least we got a mod for it now.

Feels like it was hard to give Teddie any real variety of moves just because his body is so big and awkward and his limbs are so tiny. His face also animates really jarringly. Would've been better to keep him out of his suit even if his bear form is his vastly more recognizable look.

Teddie has the same problem Morgana does with the dancing games and thats that his body doesnt really work with it, but they try, and we appreciate that.
