Brought a tear to my eye to see all those photos of Paul and Linda. He loved her so much.... Paul's singing, writing, ear for melodies, charm, and musicianship were unmatched by ANYONE in RnR history. I have seen tons of UTube videos of The Beatles performing live and Paul is always rock solid. I saw him at the Kingdome in Seattle in 76 during his "Wings Over America" tour. I cried like a baby during Yesterday and the concert was awesome in every way. All seems so long ago....thank you Paul.
I loved that Neil talked about how much he loved the McCartney album from after the Beatles broke up. I love that album and I know exactly what Neil means about how simple yet epic it is. It’s just Paul McCartney playing every instrument. Drums, bass, multiple guitars, with a few harmonies from his wife. He recorded it on his farm in the Scottish hills, where he lived with his wife and family away from the world. So many good songs on it. And I definitely see how some of Neils music has that stripped down organic feel at that time. Dope ass clip
I wouldn't go that far. I mean, I've been a Beatle fan since the 60s, and I have enjoyed seeing Paul in concert. But he can't literally read or compose music. I think your caption is more appropriate for all the classical composers before him.
"I have a lot of respect for Paul McCartney as a man for holding together a great family through the times of Rock and Roll - and through all of the success and through all of the swirling of....I have a lot of respect for that" - that part chokes me up. Paul and Linda were so determined to achieve a balance between show biz and family, while so many marriages imploded, people had affairs, kids got hurt, shuffled around. Well done, Paul.
Paul has SO MANY accomplishments to be so very proud of and yes, Neil was right to acknowledge what a fantastic job he and Linda did of raising a family through those times some people would refer to and look down upon as "the drug years." They most definitely did a lot of things right and Paul is a man I admire, respect, and love very, very much. He's simply AMAZING.
Just an observation, Paul McCartney as a solo artist charted more no. 1s than all other Beatles combined, with that, he was being pretty humble to induct John before himself in '94. Also, why do people always over analyze induction speeches? These are heart felt speeches from a perspective of a fan. Neil just told the entire world that Paul {and the Beatles} is the sole reason he became a musician, now a super star that contributed almost as much to rock as McCartney himself, that's a big deal.
Funny that Neil praises all the beatles except ringo for their work on A Day in the Life when the drum part is arguably the most important piece and one of ringo's best performances

Even now, although I have memorized all the notes (and most of the lyrics, even though I sing), hearing Sir Paul's music always gives me 'goosebumps'. That's how, on a most 'primal' level, I KNOW it is great. I may really enjoy the efforts of many other bands, but, not like this. All the others who give me those notorious bumps are opera singers and 'crooners'.
Fully deserved. For all those who dismiss Paul's solo efforts, he wrote superb melodies and lyrics - not just silly love songs - in many albums, including in less-successful efforts like Wild Life. Just listen to Some People Never Know, which is excellent. He did Britpop in the song London Town, he did smart pop music in Band on the Run, including some gorgeous ballads like Mamunia. Pop music without Paul McCartney would be like an ice cream cone, without the ice cream.
You can just imagine Linda sitting in her living room, with Neil on one side and Paul on the other, taking turns to play a song. People would pay millions for that!
To give you guys just one example of how bad ass a bass player Paul was even in the early days of the Beatles. One title: "All my loving" Listen closely what he's doing, that descending and ascending walking bass line, that is TOUGH, make no mistake and he does all that WHILE SINGING. And at the final chorus even singing the second voice while George takes over the lead vocal. That's a stellar show of musicianship.
I seen Paul in 2002 in Atlanta and the fans spanned all ages. Instead of cheering, there was a moment of quiet shock when Paul hit the stage, like were were all thinking: It's really f***ing PAUL! It was a three hour concert, yet he could hardly scratch the surface of all the hits he made between the Beatles, Wings and solo years. There is no name in music greater than Sir James Paul McCartney and no musician holds more world records.
Sorry, but it's not really fucking Paul. But it is really fucking Billy who is a hell of a musician in his own right. If you can just get past his huge fucking ego.
@nat00ben06 "Faul" is referring to the theory that Paul McCartney died in a 1967 car crash, and that he was replaced by a look-alike to keep people from panicking (Fake+Paul= Faul). So, the discussion was that even if Faul were real, he still would have written masterpieces, after 1967 and so on
Neil Young has a great, self deprecating sense of humour Yes he did reference himself a lot but also revealed his admiration for The Beatles and McCartney in the same way as any ordinary fan would do unlike Mick Jagger when he was doing his induction The Beatles into the hall of fame was very measured in his praise and elevated himself self and the Rolling Stones as rivals to The Beatles
What gets me with this speech is the way Neil relates to the British groups of the time, Beatles, Stones, The Who and yet these groups themselves were influenced by American starts like Little Richard, Chuck Berry and Elvis. It's cool.
Honestly vcx9, Who licked the red off of YOUR candy? Neil is a wonderful guy who expresses himself all heart and soul. Not to mention that he is a great song writter, a master at electric and acustic guitar. He has an remarkable sense of humor that rarely gets noticed. You might want to check yourself and find out if you really know anything at all. Sheessshhhh!
***** I meant come back from Heaven, but John was inducted 5 years before in any case. Harrison was inducted 5 years after. Lol poor Ringo has yet to be inducted as a solo artist. I'm thinking he probably will be after his death, like George and John.
***** I guess generally he isn't regarded with the same prestige as the others, and even with George it was only after his death he was voted in. Ringo was great at the Beatles induction though.

We CAN shift the timeline...check out any ascension videos for April 4th, 2020...I finally feel part of a community....and no one can take spirituality away from you. Each and every one of us has a role to play to help humanity and the planet...try and keep as high vibe as possible and grounded. The entire band members had a chemistry...it was perfect for the time/era and it was genuine...energy that came from the divine thru them and to us...to me, John Lennon's "Give peace a chance" and "Imagine" are 2 songs that we need more than ever....he was the "deepest" and most out spoken Beatle...which is why I believe he was murdered by the guy the CIA pinned it on...but it was by the CIA's mind control lab...hence the movie that was made after his passing to do "damage control"...never believe the story the media spins on things...step out of the matrix...after Princess Diana was murdered...the movie "the queen" ...and 'the king's speech" came out...and other shows/movie's like "Victoria"...again damage control...be mindful of the influence that the images you see do to the mind...the subconscious mind does NOT know false from true..it has no sense of humour...it only believes what is hears and sees...so your conscious mind will know...oh...it's just a fake horror movie...but the subconscious mind processes it just as if it ACTUALLY happened...why is this important...because it affects your mind/body/spirit...to make you disturbed and/or less sensitive to violence...so that action against aggressors doesn't occur...so what can anyone do?...i am not suggesting violence of any kind...that energy never ends well for anyone...I am suggested more awareness to think for yourself...so this is the time to shut off all violence...in video games (the way the elite are programming the next generations), some sports...like the NFL and the car wreck hits that prove nothing but feed the egoic mind, and remove the chains of addiction that are really a form of "bondage"...stopping you from becoming heart centred and have the best life you were made to have. Always look for the positive. Paul made such beautiful music and always puts me in a higher vibration. George fascinates me and use to be my favorite as many of his songs move me...like "Something"...i was thinking...about the "she"...in that song...it is forming new meaning...what we perceive is like a mirror at times...a reflection...something i the way she moves...is now Mother Earth....anyway...we are all equal...there has never been a hierarchy to me ...the birds are as important as the tree...and the flowers are as important as a mountain...it's all connected take down one tree...and the energies of the entire planet change...the wind will not flow as it did...shout negativity (or think it) and it spills out to the entire multiverse. Ringo seems more light and airy...a character...glad i got to experience their music on the radio growing up...on vinyl....and am now reflecting and find his "the very best of John Lennon CD relevant to today's issues...like "Working class hero" (for all the "frontline" workers), "Love" (the most powerful healing energy), "Power to the People" (what we can all do is meditate/pray for the age of aquarius timeline to shift..."Ascension Timeline Meditation April 4th...is only 7 min and YoQi (Yoga and Qigong) has amazing global meditation and Qigong to prevent illness, strengthen your divine energies/energy field...."an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure"...and it's all on youtube...but for how long? I would love to hear what John Lennon would have to say about today's world...the vast majority of us all want the same PEACE, LOVE, and HARMONY....so why don't we all do our part to bring these energies to fruition...lead us to Peace....it has been on Earth before..it will come again...prayers in large numbers at the same time are proven to do more rapid healing...may you all be protected with light/love energy as it can never be destroyed...the scientists just proved that several years ago...dark energies can be transmuted and dissolved to neutral...i have ALWAYS known that "light envelops darkness". If you need anything ask...and it is given...seek and ye shall find...give gratitude for what you do have...i hope sharing this helps as many energy beings as possible. I have been persecuted all my life, wrongfully accused, beaten and bruised (emotionally)...i had the cruelest mom, sister, and brothers...i got attacked outside my home on several occasions by strangers..and I was not believed or protected when i got home and needed comfort...i was not allowed to express myself in my "home"...but i'm still here in my 50's focused on helping others....THIS EARTH ANGEL IS SPREADING HER WINGS...I AM FREE...thank you to all the music, books, and meditations i have done...and all the obstacles/challenges...if it wasn't for them...I wouldn't have such a rich inner life. LOVE IS THE ANSWER....LOVE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH PAIN BECAUSE LOVE IS JUST LOVE.
He also wrote a symphony, something almost all pop singers couldn,t do.
You can just imagine Linda sitting in her living room, with Neil on one side and Paul on the other, taking turns to play a song. People would pay millions for that!
Keep On Rocking in the free World
To give you guys just one example of how bad ass a bass player Paul was even in the early days of the Beatles.
One title: "All my loving"
Listen closely what he's doing, that descending and ascending walking bass line, that is TOUGH, make no mistake and he does all that WHILE SINGING. And at the final chorus even singing the second voice while George takes over the lead vocal.
That's a stellar show of musicianship.
5:22 I cried so hard :( RIP Linda McCartney
A true artist recognizes another one.
priceless.
The world is a better place because of The Beatles. I love The Beatles. They gave us so , so much.
Rock and roll will never die!!!!
I am gonna be devastated if paul passed ..long live mcartney x
Todos lo estaremos pero no hay que pensar en eso.
King of melody Paul McCartney.
On this day, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is now part of Sir Paul McCartney!
Great testimony by Neil
Two great musicians
Young is a genius!
What ah Honor................Nice job Neil.
@nat00ben06 "Faul" is referring to the theory that Paul McCartney died in a 1967 car crash, and that he was replaced by a look-alike to keep people from panicking (Fake+Paul= Faul). So, the discussion was that even if Faul were real, he still would have written masterpieces, after 1967 and so on
Nice speech Neil.
Neil Young has a great, self deprecating sense of humour
Yes he did reference himself a lot but also revealed his admiration for The Beatles and McCartney in the same way as any ordinary fan would do unlike Mick Jagger when he was doing his induction The Beatles into the hall of fame was very measured in his praise and elevated himself self and the Rolling Stones as rivals to The Beatles
Very blessed to have Sir Paul as A friend of mine thank- you Sir Paul. I am honored . With LOVE DEBBIE HODGE DENNEY aka Debbie Denney
How did you manage to make friends with Sir Paul?
+Prill Jazz America That is a reasonable question. How does one do that?
Really interesting speech from Neil Young... to get both the respect & affection of amazing talents like NY is tribute indeed!
love you Paul long live Neil and paul
What gets me with this speech is the way Neil relates to the British groups of the time, Beatles, Stones, The Who and yet these groups themselves were influenced by American starts like Little Richard, Chuck Berry and Elvis. It's cool.
They just shook the World...thats all. Nothing big.
The Beatles didn't keep up with the trends, they created them.
I love love love Neil Young.
Love Neil Young. Didn't know he was so funny too.
Yep. Best songwriter of the century. Nothing against John, of course, but it was really Paul.
What a lifetime of happiness you brought to me yeh yeh yeh
IIRC Little Willow was written for Maureen Starkey who had recently passed. -U10
Very nicely done ...Old Man
I have great respect for Paul as well
If Paul inducted John, couldn't John come back and induct Paul?
John was dead also john was inducted after I think
*****
I meant come back from Heaven, but John was inducted 5 years before in any case. Harrison was inducted 5 years after. Lol poor Ringo has yet to be inducted as a solo artist. I'm thinking he probably will be after his death, like George and John.
Stephen Carroll What makes no sense to me is the Ringo hasn't inducted either, nor has he been (from what the camera shows) seen at their inductions
*****
I guess generally he isn't regarded with the same prestige as the others, and even with George it was only after his death he was voted in. Ringo was great at the Beatles induction though.
***** Ringo never had a great career as a solo artist like they John, George and Paul. He was rewarded as a member of the Beatles.
And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.
Sad to see so many anti NEIL comments...give it a break people!
How can any one be anti Niel young
If you don't like NeilYoungs music I feel sorry for you You are missing out on one of the greatest musicians of the last 50 plus years I have seen him live in concert over 50 times It will be a very sad day for me when he died
Love the wings !
1974 ,Hazel Drury's house on Hewitt Ave, Marquette Michigan, sitting in her bedroom listening to Neil Young, Harvest.
it seems like yesterday
and that's the Amazing thread Music weaves through all of our Lives.
there is no amount of money you could pay me for my Memories🎼🎹🙋🌎✌
"First song I ever sang was a Beatles song, Money (That's What I Want)". Genius :))
