- Gary Numan - Micromusic - Wembley, London 1981
Gary Numan's 1981 'Farewell' concerts at Wembley Arena, London marked the first phase of his career.
Performing material from three Number 1 albums (Replicas, The Pleasure Principle and Telekon) against the spectacular backdrop of one of the largest sets ever built on a stage in the UK, this is Numan delivering on every level -- songs that are still hugely influential 30 years later, pure pop star theatre and a light show as big as a city.
One of the greatest shows of all time? No question.

This is over 40 years ago now and its still so much better than the crap we hear nowdays.what a legend
Exactly! I love those times, my childhood..
*_Gary Numan was only 23 years old whilst performing his 1981 Farewell Tour....incomprehensible..._*
*_"Oh so..._*
*_Very..._*
*_Art Nouveau" Gary Numan_*
I was at this gig and it was one of the great nights of my life ....Numan at the absolute height of his powers in the classic machine period - the look, the sound. It was so emotional. I had been a big fan for a couple of years and now this was goodbye. Am still a fan today, but man that 79 - 81 period culminating in this was something else.
It was, for sure. Still great to see him going strong, but this was THE time to be a Numan fan. What a night...
The emotions still run high watching this...
I was very young the first time I heard Gary in 1980. I found his movements, his features , his voice and music so mesmerizing!!!
It was almost like a spiritual revival for me. I was in a trance💫
@@longfadeIt was!
Brilliant song about having a good right hander
I love it when the music goes da da da da da da
Head over heels since the first time I heard him 🖤
favourite track of the concert , spooky intro , then climactic instrumental , outro toit , ace stuff .
Cant help but fall for him
Oh i fell for him from day one ❤kim
everyone wearing flares , etc , NOT US , NUMANOIDS , black nail varnish , eyeliner and BLEACHED white hair , used to take longer in the bathroom than my girlfriend , lol , and it WAS "NOT" ACCEPTABLE IN THE 80's , trust me , but , we couldn't give a flying f@@k , thanks gary numan , for being soooo cool .
time stands still
Absolutely
I remember those days well.
1982 to 1988 then I needed to be more mainstream
Shame 😂😮😅
Flares was gone out fashion roughly by the time
Mr.Gary Numan

Love this song
Such a great ARP Odyssey solo, following behind Billy's "On Broadway."
Gorgeous
I love this song. This live version in particular. Brings back memories of the early 80's... Thanks for uploading.
I love Gary Numan both his old and new songs! ❤
Was there on the last night still a fantastic concert and still a great watch after all these years
Hi me too the hole arena was electric still have the spine chilling feeling of the intro x
Brillaint
Gorgeous gary really is a genius
Chillzzz
Only a genius could write such a classic song about having a w**k!
ha ha ha ha
Haha so true
ARP Odyssey heaven.....
What a music legend Gary Webbe is!
Great night brilliant song !
Much maligned by the media of the day they’ve f...ked off he’s still going.
cant kill a LEGEND .........BETTER THAN EVER !!
Ahhh simplemente me encanta 😊💗
simply brilliant
love this version of the great Blue album track . Lots of love the Tripzville Godz
Far better version than his latest take on this song.
I wasn't there! Best album pleasure Priciple!!!
Grande Gary!
ace wish i was there for this it must of been awesome to see this stage set as part of the audience
wayne titus Take it from me, it was absolutely mind blowing!
Good lord, he was gorgeous back then!
Future`s musik.
Fucking awesome track, and that synth solo with the arpeggio... Drags me all the way back to the early 80's.
"Performing material from three Number 1 albums (Replicas, The Pleasure Principle and Telekon) " ... true, but actually this song was from the earlier 'Tubeway Army' album, as were a few others.
What a solo!
I love the song though
I was there best concert ever
You were lucky to be there! 😊
I was at the last night at Wembley and I still watch it today also the best concert I’ve ever been to and I’ve seen a few over the years
That's quite interesting singing a song about having a you know what
Living Ornaments: Everyday I Die, The Joy Circuit, The Dream Police. Not forgetting Bombers, and On Broadway.
Even though it clearly wasn't the end, there seemed to be an air of finality about it....
We wake woke
We all need you
This was my first remembered version of this song - Gary finished the song and handed over to Billie Currie and Gary's other normal keyboard people (Chris Payne etc) - it was very well continued in a really interesting way. I stilll ove it now - it shaped all my keyboard stuff after
Not Billy Currie. This was Roger Mason.
@@vanillacoffee hey how do you know this ?
@@almthomson Billy Currie was only on the Touring Principle tour. He went back to Ultravox after 79 and this tour was 80/81 ish.
@@vanillacoffee ahh Ok - thanks Vanilla I would never have known that - am re-discovering so much now
@@vanillacoffeeNo,its Denis Haines. Roger Mason did the keys solos on the Sept 1980 UK leg of the Teletour. Haines did the rest, including Wembley 1981.
Everyday I die.....
Numan is/was a fucking loon... Cant wait to see him :)
Try and go and see tubeway days they are doing a fantastic job at replicating these moments some of us missed in the day .. but I was lucky enough to go and see one of these farewell gigs and still to play these songs still sends shivers down my spine AWESOME 👊
Noticeable for the absence of Billy Curries incredible keyboard solo at the end.
I’m not sure but I think it’s Denis Haines who play ARP Odyssey solo at the end
For all the brilliance of the BC version, I like this. Good job Dennis.
I was there in the front row!!
Gary told me that he was really nervous before the show.
He also asked me how I liked the slower, creepier version of this song?
I said it was brilliant.
He gave me free passes to the next show and I became friends with him and I would call him on the phone every few weeks or so....
One other thing, um ...oh yea,
I made this story up... Sorry 🤪
love his song i never thought he wrote it about what he did [i dont want to say it im a girl]
Hahahaha bless ya
This live version is my fave, beats ‘79 & ‘80
80 for me but this is still awesome! 🎹
that and joy circuit , ;;;
I was 14
Love you
i remember one of the pyramid's stopped working!
do you remember him getting caught in the wires at the back of the light box
that's why there's a pause picture Durring that track at the start on the dvd and tape
ironic lol true though :)
Good version in slower tempo. Very Ian Curtis 😎
Lo max :D
I know what this song is about
Wish they had captured the Hammersmith Apollo version from the Living Ornaments albums in 1980 on video rather than the apparent 3 they only decided to film which was a crime , it sounds more technically stable and the ending is better as it sounds far to over blown and out of tune . The additional effects used on the synths on the Wembley dates some what spoil it that on the Teletour, but I guess its better than nothing
And I do
Well my Numanoid friends it's fastly becoming 39 yrs to the date that I was at the last 2 nights of Wembley.
I still cry to this day I was 17 I can't help it
Iv never heard sound or seen a concert as good since the whole place shook and Somthing happend that still sticks with me and many of you durring the performance of please push no more.
It was emotionally charged anybody else the same..
I have a recording of that final night's performance
That place was truely electric.
I will be watching my dvd on my 8 foot projector sound up
What is everybody else doing
I hope Gary does Somthing for 40th annivery what would you like him to do
I know there was differant camera angles that I saw on the monitor I saw it as I looked down on the mixing desk
And he said they was found lost recordings meant to have done it for the 30th annivery dvd he didn't
It would be great to see it for the 40th we need to push him xxxx
Incorrect aspect ratio
Stretching the video was a bad choice, IMO.
Goth rock is a pale and dead music genre compared to this artist and especially this live version.😇
Least talented new waver to ever sltiher onto the stage, derivative of much better bands
