- Gary Numan - Micromusic - Wembley, London 1981
Gary Numan's 1981 'Farewell' concerts at Wembley Arena, London marked the first phase of his career.
Performing material from three Number 1 albums (Replicas, The Pleasure Principle and Telekon) against the spectacular backdrop of one of the largest sets ever built on a stage in the UK, this is Numan delivering on every level -- songs that are still hugely influential 30 years later, pure pop star theatre and a light show as big as a city.
One of the greatest shows of all time? No question.

2.00 minutes into this epic track, one finger on one key and the Polymoog is making Wembley arena shake to its very core.
Wasn't it just I was there last 2 nights and never heard sound like or since can't believe they put the base speakers l
under the floor old swimming pool the whole place ripped apart the final night oh. My lordy
No wonder iv never forgotten it or ever will I was 17
It will happen again next year, I have already got my ticket 🎫 👍👍
Love this comment 👏👏
He put the bass speakers on the floor for that very effect.
Brilliant comment 😊
It's 2018 and Gary still looks like he's from the future.
Yes he is
unbelieveable
I think its the anti-sideburns, takes it over the top lol
I'm still listening in 2019, 2020, 2030,2040,2050..........
I was there at Wembley in 1981. 55 years old now. Still sends a shiver down my spine!
@Stephen Moncur Me too. 57 years old and still a Numanoid❤️🖤❤️🖤
Yes me too Stephen, my body chills he was dark a lot of those old songs man!
Ditto!
Ditto
Wow
One word. AMAZING even in 2024
Numanoid since I was 11 (1981)..the more I listen to his early era the more amazed I am of how he was so ahead of his time. And remember this: Analogue synthezisers cant be beat with their majestic force of pure power.
Great comment!😊
Been a Numanoid since '79 I was 12 then it's 2024 now (gad I feel old) and still am a Numanoid
I have been listening to all forms of electronic music since 1995 and it is absolutely amazing how good Gary was in early 80s. It is so much better than most "alternative" music today.
He was even better in the late '70s... 😼
That slow swagger as Numan walks up to the mic...*shivers*
you get me
Endless shivers down my spine, these synthlines are godllike!
it Truely was mind blowing the whole building shook .as they had based speakers in the old swimming pool underneath
I was 17 April 1981
@@angelsnow2695 Agree wholeheartedly. That concert was mind blowing. It was a glimpse into the future. The sounds and the visuals were incredible.
@@unavailable2204 In another life, I was born in the UK in 1971. ;)
Brilliant :) Gary didn't have the 80's sound, he was different from other compositions. This is what makes him so unique.
I think he was from another planet entirely---an alien looking down on us primitive souls on Earth in our leisure suits telling us to get with it
Gary played his own game I feel, while others compromised more or just didn't stay as authentic and independent, and just didn't draw from as good sources for inspiration. Listening back, there is very little in this vein (cyber/sci-fi/dystopian/high-concept/PKDickian), from the classic pop era that measure up to Gary's brilliance. I conclude, tentatively, that an honest athiest will always make better art than a new-ager, pagan, witch, magician, or occultist (bowie, beatles, all that crap). 'There's a star man in the sky'. Lightning bolt over one eye. Yawn, like a 3 year old's trash can destined scrawl next to a killer piece of future time-viewed graffiti.
Absolutely blows me away, for this time and what I would have given to be there. These Living Ornaments concerts should be on dvd or streaming. The recordings are so good.
I had the double vinyl with lyrics/phot0s inserts and everything. Found it cheap in an op-shop, early 90s, perfect condition. Lost it along the way. Legendary.
it Truely was mind blowing I was 17 that April I cried ..
the whole building shook
I have a tape recording I did the encore went on for ages after please push no more ..
I missed my train nearly home concert started late ..
I saw them recording this show on a monitor as I looked down from balcony
and rhere was indeed more camera being used from back wall ..
time he brought that version out
those sounds were so loud they had based speakers under the floor in the old swimming pool ..
the whole place shook .
everybody cried
memory's I hold still to this day
never forgot or forget it ever numans finest hr
Great comment 👏👏👏
Jealous
Oh boy...the joy in recreating these sounds on my own synths today. If only I could go back 40 years and be in his band....
I hear ya - Is that you Andy fletcher 👍🏻
Have seen Numan dozens of times but this little bit pisses on everything done then or since. Mind blowingly good!
My words exacty.
so true my friend I was 17
everybody goes on about him now ..
but they will never ever hear sound or feel emotion like it
I Truely cried like a baby I couldn't help it
that place was emotionaly charged that night
memory's I hold to this day as never been matched
Numan at his peak. Amazing. Wish I had been there.
me too...........time machine plz
@@Marksmith-qq6hh - You were lucky to be there Mark ! 😊
Amazing.. I saw him about 4 months ago.. And I saw him 35 yrs ago... His shows are perfection. And timeless
This is an abstract painting, come to life with audio.
Gary Numan is wonderfully theatrical & dramatic; sublime.
It just gets no better than this. Numan at his peak :-)
imagine been 16 and mad numan fan and at this concert, that was me,will never forget it.
I love to hear Moogs scream! Paul's bassline is the sickest. This by far and away is the best show recording I have heard of GN at least and quite possibly of all time. Sounds like a studio recording! Now thats precision!
Ready to board, Capt. Numan
Look! no annoying cell phones anywhere...love the 80's
Everything was better in the 80s.
Ironic that 'safest of all' in 'cars' is now and forever the normal, texting and 'smart' phoning us all into the end of humanity (yea I grew up watching numan)
The 'car' was an analogy for the effing phone, obviously. He was way ahead of us
@@unclegeemus No it wasn't (if you mean the song) , 'Cars is quite literal. If that's not what you meant, apologies.
Numan is the master😄🎸God this Pisces genius saved new wave💪⚓and he is a pilot ✈🚗autistic medium Beryl Tony R.I.P Gemma we lov U💏👪
The greatest live show of all time the stage lighting amazing and fantastic music
Coincidentally, there are only three things in life I believe that I missed out on, and they were all at Wembley Stadium. Evil Knievel failing to jump the double decker busses in 75, Abba concert in 79 and this in 81.
For me, the small portion at 2:00-2:10 is the epitome of concert grandeur. It really never got any grander !
This is a perfect vídeo effect but made Live in front of our eyes....its outer space!!!!!
it took me 31 years to realise, that Gary Numan is kind of an Mozart our times. born in 92...
My first concert simply amazing. those deep synths sounds are unreal. It was fantastic.
Was there in 81 still sends shiver 's down my spine x
@@edwardwhite7959 I was at his first major gig in '79 (Glasgow, supported by OMD) and back again in 1980 - just as good!
Absolutely awesome but actually being there was something else. Wembley was shaking and the music was so loud. Spectacular!
I was there 1981,iam going to see him at derngate Northampton 🔜 2022
Wonderfully DRAMATIC! love it...
Brilliant,timeless masterpiece live !!❤️👍
Gary was sure something amazing to see live. I was lucky enough to see the Berzerker Concert Live...and man he was so unique and mysterious. He really gave a great Concert. I almost was able to see him in Wimbly on his Farewell Tour..but im always thankfull for the tour i did see.
Beserker was a great tour, i went to 4 dates. Class.
I would have sold a nut to see this ! Unfortunately I was 3 years old & they hadn't dropped yet ..
bless you il beet that I changed my sex lol true
it wrecked my brain
concert il never forget ever I was 17
😂😂😂
I saw him on the Telekon tour at a historic theatre here in town. He had three foot spinning lit up pyramids and a little car he drove around onstage. It was f-ing awesome. I was 14.
Soooo 80s . Sooooo damn GOOD 😩😩😩
If Gary did this again with his group it would be mega, he maybe older but there is no other type of music today.
Excellent
Just saw this particular live recording of one of my favorite Numan tracks.
Spectacular lighting. Reminds me of "Close Encounters of the Third Kind".
Effortless vocals and confident stage presence.
Fan bloody tastic.... Gives me goosebumps.... Even 43 years later ❤️❤️
He is such an amazing individual,I was at this concert and the lights were so bright that i had a bloody bad headache but still enjoyed it,but how the hell could gary's eyes stand those lights!
I was at this concert. It was the first time I'd been to a big concert. I even remember on the way home in the car Peter Gabriel's Games without Frontiers was playing on the radio. Incredible memories.
I was a Teenager when Gary blew my mind with the Release of Replicas, loving most 'Are friends electric' and 'Down in the Park'. Beside Kraftwerk from Germany my electronic revolution. Cheers from Frankfurt
Saw him first in 1979 manchester lots of times since , last being at the Ritz in Manchester this year ❤
Genius alert!
i still can believe how good he was its 49 years u have listened to him xxxxx love you
vuelvo y lo repito, Gary es un viajero del tiempo, musica de mas de 40 años y aun suena moderna
Estoy de acuerdo es estraterestre como yo
One ☝️ of his best tracks. Fantastic live.
Even the lighting was ahead of its time.
HE LOST SOOOOOOOOOO MUCH MONEY ON THOSE LIGHTING SHOWS I BELIEVE.
@@martinparker6536 This must have all been pre-DMX so he had electronics engineers build custom stuff for him?
Mind blowing, especially considering it was 81!
Wow 🤩👏👏 super 🤩♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
How special is Gary Numan..Amazing artist.!
Saw Gary in early 2000s for the first time, it was Awesome! Been a fan since 1979 when I was in 12th grade SoCal
One of the most underrated to define the 80's !
That futuristic car...for Down in the park..❤❤❤❤
Pan Numan to świetny wokalista.😊❤
I wish I was there to see it. So spectacular. Love You Gary for Your input in electronic/rock music.
You can tell why the musicians union was more afraid of Numan than any other
LEGEND 🖤
gary numan, rules/
It's 2021 and Gary numan looks like he's from the future *
When the world was great
Absolutely. I feel fortunate to have come of age in the eighties. 2020 ushered in a new kind of hell. And I'm not talking about the bug either.
Saw this tour at The odien Birmingham...it was sold out...amazing.❤❤❤😊😊
Epic , never dates this to all numan fans so good
Oh hell yes. Classic
One of Gary Numans best tracks ..
The world changed here... electronics took over our lives
. . . and our minds. We became Futurists with Electronic Music.
Three thumb's down on this masterpiece? WTF?
One word: Trolls
2021: Now 11. Mindless idiotic trolls.
Lol, dont worry about it.
"When anything can happen.. anything can happen.. "
This song always reminds me of bladerunner....
Saw Him this week amazing live !!!
Can never be bettered ❤
I caught a little bit of Bowie Station to Station during the beginning of the instrumental but Numan made it his own! I know Gary Numan was influenced by Bowie and such a shame Bowie was an ass to him! I love both legends and though inspired by Bowie Numan made his own music! And continued to have his own sound!!!
Gary Numan gave me a ride to Santa Cruz ....... before the 89 earthquake...
Incredible!!!
xoxo The Clarences
