I was there in 79, i saw the tele tour show twice, and I was at the last 2 nights of the Wembley shows, I still have very vivid memories of all of it, especially Wembley! Incredible shows.
As brilliant as he is musically, he doesn't get enough credit for his singing voice. Just blends in perfectly with the electronic sounds swirling around each song. M.E. a perfect example.
He uses his voice as an instrument. Tracks like 'Stormtrooper in drag' and 'Noise Noise' illustrate this perfectly. There's musicians and there's Gary Numan.
I'm on a Gary Numan group and some newb was like ," I love his music, but ho voice is pitchy". I responded, " Are you insane, his voice Its one of the main reasons I adore him!" It's perfect for his music!!!
Agreed... I posted elsewhere that I think he may be the best singer in electronic music, for the way his voice fits in perfectly with the synthetic sounds, neither overpowering them nor being overpowered by them.
This song is almost 40 years old yet sounds like it could have come out recently, these are the songs that are truly magnificent, bravo, job well done!
I'm surprised it wasn't a hit- one of his best polymoog melodies! I swear I've heard excerpts from this song recently in commercials and on show commercial breaks....
I've you tubed pretty much all of his work and feel I somehow got into his music and bought the two best albums. Replicas and pleasure principle.. just my opinion. All his work is decent 👍
Most of the artists today are very run of the mill. Numan brought something very new, dark and different to the mix. His music is not an easily forgettable sound.
I don't think anyone can top Numan. NIN is extremely close (in my personal opinion) with the power in their sounds, melodies and lyrical content that rivals Numan's, but he will always be the true Master of Electronic Music. Have you listened to his stuff from 1994 up to now? Bloody worth it, "My Name Is Ruin" is an absolutely incredible track as well as "The End Of Things" and "If I Said". All from 2017.
My older brother tone introduced me to Gary in the eighty's he died but i wish he was still here to see what Gary has achieved. He would still be educating me about good music. Fans and artists. Music is a gift that makes this world more bearable. As Abba said thank you for the music.
I was there! Wembley Arena April 1981. I was 17. Now 57. This was in the middle of the show. It's on you tube and the VHS was called Gary Numans Micro Music. The top of the set was the biggest moving indoor structure in Europe at the time. As he was "retiring" he wanted to go out with a bang. Have a look at the whole gig and enjoy. 👍
In my opinion he’s one of the greatest innovators of “NEW “ music and he has been so unappreciated for how he changed music and became a massive influence on so many artists.
He is beyond brilliant and was light years ahead of anyone during that time. He conceptualized all aspects of his music. And such a sweet, considerate person, considering the fact that I was a bumbling fool @in-store signing & performance during his "Splinter" tour. Just had to get that out into the ether..
Funny thing is, he's probably the most genuine and down to earth guys you could ever wish to meet. A very normalan who made extraordinary music and looked absolutely amazing while doing so.
His voice sounds robotic and steely - and yet I have rarely come across one that grabs my soul more. I think it is because the subject matter can often be emotional and deeply effecting
Gary Numan M.E. And m.e. I eat dust We're all so run down I'd call it my death But I'll only fade away And I hate to fade alone Now there's only m.e. Why shoud I care Why should I try Oh no, oh no I turned off the pain Like I turned off you all Now there's only m.e.
This man changed my life so much , gave me so much confidence and a very good few years imitating him with my bleached blonde hair and make up much to my mums embarrassment.
Gary Anthony James Webb, known professionally as Gary Numan, is an English musician. He entered the music industry as frontman of the new wave band Tubeway Army. After releasing two studio albums with the band, he released his debut solo studio album The Pleasure Principle in 1979, topping the UK Albums Chart.
Oui parfait, quel son ,les synthés sont parfaits ,la mélodie au top et surtout quelle voix , unique,et cette présence sur scène "énorme" du grand Gary numan....
5 measures one sees he was 35 years ahead of his time. I guess I knew that 35 years ago that was his schtick and during puberty I did not appreciate it, but he was kinda cute for another dude I always waited for his vids after school. Damn MTV messed me up forever or I would not be writing this right now
@@hudsontoo1212 Well, I wouldn't call him a God, but he was (and still is) a pioneer of Synth Wave Music of the Future. He was influenced by David Bowie, Kraftwerk and by Ultravox!, which they considered themselves (with founding member John Foxx) futurists. Gary Numan in his own right became one too with his music.
Gonna sound weird, but as an 80s kid metalhead of course I wasn’t into GN. Listening to this and Cars, it strikes me as so right on the verge of seriously heavy! I always said I’d love a Zakk Wydle cover of “Cars”, and the same for this. (GN singing of course) IMO, GN has a really cool dark edge.🤘🏻 Would be awesome to see GN pair up with Black Label Society and come at this from a completely new angle, like AH-HA came at “Take on me” from a new angle, and it was just FIRE! A better example of what I envision is more along the lines of when Bjork teamed up with Skunk Anansi and did a smoking heavy remix of “Army of me”.
Gary’s band is fantastic live in this era. The synths sound absolutely amazing. The audio quality here is phenomenal, too.
I was there in 79, i saw the tele tour show twice, and I was at the last 2 nights of the Wembley shows, I still have very vivid memories of all of it, especially Wembley! Incredible shows.
I was there on one of those eves - I’ve never been to a concert so loud in my life, just too loud. The seats were vibrating!
Unique voice, just irreplaceable.
I'm on a Gary Numan group and some newb was like ," I love his music, but ho voice is pitchy". I responded, " Are you insane, his voice Its one of the main reasons I adore him!" It's perfect for his music!!!
I just saw him live in March 2024 touring with Ministry. He blew me away. And, I’m so glad I found this gem. ❤
Agreed... I posted elsewhere that I think he may be the best singer in electronic music, for the way his voice fits in perfectly with the synthetic sounds, neither overpowering them nor being overpowered by them.
Basement Jaxx sampled this for one of their hit tracks "where's your head at". Both songs are great.
This song is almost 40 years old yet sounds like it could have come out recently, these are the songs that are truly magnificent, bravo, job well done!
I don't know, i don't think this song could exist these days, the music industry is so diferente these days. But im very Glad this exist in the 80s.
Born in 81. I love the heavy new wave industrial influences in my birth year. Amazing music
@@fuvahola7468 the sound is back in vogue. I think it 100% could be from today
Well said…he could have pumped this out and top 40 would have this in heavy rotation! 👍
I'm surprised it wasn't a hit- one of his best polymoog melodies! I swear I've heard excerpts from this song recently in commercials and on show commercial breaks....
all true numan fans love this , this was the best time for him
you clearly haven't heard the later years stuff then :)

andy morris I dig Savage and Splinter
He stills.
Most of the artists today are very run of the mill. Numan brought something very new, dark and different to the mix. His music is not an easily forgettable sound.
His magnum opus as far as I'm concerned. This song is a masterpiece. My favorite by far.
Mine too, especially the 1979 Live version that you can find on RUclips.
Just beautiful. Electronica at its peak. Noone did it better.

Master of Electronica, in short M.E.
Kraftwerk did it better. But Gary did it 2nd best and that's damned good.
My older brother tone introduced me to Gary in the eighty's he died but i wish he was still here to see what Gary has achieved. He would still be educating me about good music. Fans and artists. Music is a gift that makes this world more bearable. As Abba said thank you for the music.
Love that ABBA quote. My favorite ABBA song 🎵
RIP Tone, a man of great taste x
Gary = genius.
Those booming synths...music perfection. Great song, absolutely brilliant show...the supreme showman.
Holy shit.

Hahahahahaha I thought that too 🤣
What an entrance! I would've loved to see this concert live, bet it was amazing.

The greatest musical event I ever witnessed to this day.

Legend.

Such a strange but brilliant man

I was cruising through Chicago blasting this on my way home
What a showman he was ahead of his time Bowie couldn't touch this dude techno new wave.
Please who could make this today nobody just timeless
When I look back upon that he was a complete nut, I only now realize his brilliance and how much of a pioneer he really was...
Still effing brilliant
Epic
Please take me back to the 80’s. Music just made sense back then, performed by naturally talented musicians. Unlike the dross played today !
Christ you sound like my dad! 🤣 he used to say that about Numan comparing him to Sinatra.
Just superb - another Gary classic
Gary Newman is a legend 👌👍🏻
Its a pity I can't say the same about your spelling! "Numan"
Dude was well before his time
Gary Numan's always been a musical genius. 💖
He actually doesn't regard himself as a musician. More an arranger of noises. His words, not mine.
@@ohcrikey9560
He's genuinely modest, but regardless of what he thinks, he's been responsible for some of the best music ever written.
By far one of my favorite songs!
Even now in 2021, forty years later, this music is still so far ahead of its time. 💛
There funniest thing is synth-wave is the rally cry for alt-right spergs now 😂😂😂😂
I’ve only discovered Numan the other day. Very pleased that I did.
One of Garys best songs live. Genius.
A true artist, can't get enough of this song lately
imagine that vibe in there 😰😰💕
Those sparkling eyes though!
Gary Numan M.E.

definitely lyrics that incorporate the spectrum and ones understood by those on it because it was written by someone also there 🖤
so ahead of his time. also so boyishly handsome here!
Gary Numan always had that futuristic sound, which of course now is legendary 🎹🔥🎹🔥🎸🎹🔥
Favorite GN song by far, its so heavy in its own way 🤘🏻
I was only ten in 1981 I still love his music today 👍
I was 11
♥♥ Nothing wrong with his dancing here....♥♥
This is in mindhunter series
I feel he is not credited enough for the electronic music we have today....
Nine Inch Nails (Trent Reznor) celebrate Gary, but I agree - he should get far more credit.

The best concert I ever attended. Wagged off school to get there on time
Man this brings back memories, I was at this gig. I still remember every second of it.

How was it ?
+Sheldon Benton greatest ever concert
How incredible Jon. I was hooked when I bought 'the pleasure principle' in '79. I was only 17 at the time.
it was the greatest night ever ..
I was there as well, my first gig , best ever. I was left almost deaf for two days after. no health and safety noise level rules in the 80s.
Legend. Excited to listen to his new album.
I was there wot a night
