Metal Shed Roof Support - Upgrade

  • Today I reinforced my shed roof. It looked like a serious design flaw when I put the shed up. Soon after I built the shed I was driving down my street and I noticed a neighbour had the same shed but his roof looked like a horses saddle. So it's pretty obvious it needs reinforcement...

    Very good shed supports. I have a 10x14 that was a nightmare to put together. Your roof video is great and I'm going to do the same. Took me 3 weeks with grandsons help . Thanks lots. From Ohio

      Lol! You’re welcome. I have 3 (ish) videos on the shed if you are interested. 1 for waterproofing the floor and the rest are for strength upgrades for the roof. Good luck with your upgrades!

    This is what I had in mind for my same shed. Nice to know it'll be fairly simple. Thanks for the upload.

    Great ideas and good video editing, especially clear sound! I did a similar upgrade to a 10x12' metal shed and it has handled Canadian snow for 20 years. I did some extra vertical bracing on the end walls, then horizontal 2x4s and hung an upper shelf along each side by chains so the floor area was clear underneath. Now I am looking at tearing it down and replacing with a new 12x17' shed (more toys!) on a new expanded base. I will use your bracing techniques for the new shed as they are much better designed and should be stronger. Only difference for me is...DeWalt! Thanks!

    Nice job. I'm doing similar to an off the shelf shed. I'm building a workshop in a woodland site but first need to beef up my site hut (shed from a home depot type store). Very useful video.

      How did it go? Im about to buy one of those home depot metal sheds but worried about it not being sturdy enough. Im in south Louisiana so mainly concerned about wind blowing it away. I have a cement slab that I plan on anchoring it to, but do you think the rest would fly apart? Were you able to beef up your shed?

    • @outofround
      @outofround Год назад

      @@coachmike3266 Here's how I anchored it. I put L bolts in the slab before it set up. But you could drill it and put lag bolts in it. I used two bolts on each side. I secured treated 2x6's to that and then some treated 2x2's on top of that. I secured the building to the 2x2's with about 36 #6 stainless steel screws. Caulked it all up and painted it. Good luck!

    I did similar for the roof beams on my Arrow shed, but I used 1x4s since I had a few 8 ft laying around. Not sure how I'm going to tie it all together yet, but your vid gave me some good ideas.

    Do you have any pictures of how the reinforcing held up with snow on the roof, or verbal feedback after a winter with this mod??? Thanks Ken from the great white north!

      I didn’t take any pictures but it’s still standing unharmed after it’s first winter. I have a neighbour with the same shed and theirs is all beat up, I’m assuming, from years of unreinforced snow load. I was concerned about snow load when I built it and after seeing theirs I came up with this idea.

    I bought the weather reinforcement beams from the company. The beams were too long and slender, so twisted under snow load. Recommend supports like this to prevent twisting.
