Thank you for your quality content! First one. I can't believe you didn't mention the opening number from Ragtime. One of my favorites. WOW, I have so many favorites I hate could not do without any of them. I thought "Willkommen" would be on this not on the list ngl. What happened to Comedy Tonight, from A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum? It at least deserved an honorable mention! Omg, The Great Comet's opening is a mention! ITS TOTALLY ONE OF MY FAVORITE OPENING NUMBERS!! Well, this is fun. I really enjoyed the opening song "Seasons of Love" from the musical "Rent" where the main characters break the 4th wall and sing the song to open the Broadway show as well as the film adaptation. R.I.P. Jonathan Larson. From one Jonathan to another, you are surely missed and you have created my favorite musical. You have inspired me to write a musical of my own. Thank you for this gem of a musical! By the way, Come From Away was and is difficult to listen to as a New Yorker whose mother worked for city government at the time. There's just a visceral reaction to Welcome to the Rock that melts away the decades and I'm in my apartment again, talking to my mom (the personal assistant to the head of the Brooklyn Dept. of Buildings) describing the news coverage of a plane having crashed into the north tower and then BAM! The south tower is hit. ......... Her office would become the center of government until a new command center could be established. She wouldn't be home for hours, by which time the smoke, the papers in the wind, and the smell of the fire was throughout our neighborhood. 😢 It's a day I can never forget. It's an experience I hope will never again be experienced by anyone in the world. 😢

You briefly mentioned "A Funny Thing...Forum" but I love that it's a show within a show. During Comedy Tonight, everyone on stage is an actor in the comedy that's about to start, and they're setting the stage.
I was excited to see where "Welcome to the Renaissance" was on your list. 🤨 I'd put it pretty high up there as it introduces a show AND a whole era! Also love "There You Are" from Edwin Drood because it sets the mood of the cheeky play within a play so well.
Was hoping "The Whole Being Dead Thing" would be in here, glad to see it was! Even if it's technically the second song, it's definitely still part of the opening. There's quite a few shows in here I've been lucky enough to see in person, but Beetlejuice was a surprise favorite.
I love all the fourth wall breaks in the outsiders, I saw it front row and they were constantly talking to me and Ponyboy talks to the audience the whole time
From Cats: “there’s a man over there with a look of surprise…” Also, from Joseph: “… but if by chance you are here for the night…” this directly mentions the audience.
Awesome list. I wonder if these could've been included on this list: .Bikini Bottom Day- Spongebob the Musical .Arabian Nights- Aladdin the Musical .Prologue- The Phantom of the Opera .Overture/You're A Good Man Charlie Brown- You're A Good Man Charlie Brown
The List: 10. Too Much Exposition (Urinetown) 9. A Cautionary Tale (Mean Girls) 8. Road to Hell (Hadestown) 7. Prologue: Invisible (Beetlejuice) 6. Welcome to the Rock (Come From Away) 5. Alexander Hamilton (Hamilton) 4. Ex-Wives (SIX) 3. Prelude: The Ballad of Sweeney Todd: 'Attend the Tale of Sweeney Todd" (Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street) 2. Invocation and Instructions to the Audience (The Frogs) 1. Tradition (Fiddler on the Roof) HMs: Untitled Opening Number ([title of show]), Fancy Dress (The Drowsy Chaperone), Prologue (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat), Prologue (Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812), Magic to Do (Pippin)
Aquarius from Hair. In some productions they walk over the backs of the seats in the orchestra to get to the stage. Up close and personal! Prologue: We Might Play All Night from Passing Strange.

My favorite fourth wall break is the very beginning of Hamilton when king George says turn off your phones and then says thank you, and enjoy MY show.
😂😂😂
When I went to see Hamilton last year king George told the audience to sing with him during You’ll Be Back 😂
By the way, Come From Away was and is difficult to listen to as a New Yorker whose mother worked for city government at the time. There's just a visceral reaction to Welcome to the Rock that melts away the decades and I'm in my apartment again, talking to my mom (the personal assistant to the head of the Brooklyn Dept. of Buildings) describing the news coverage of a plane having crashed into the north tower and then BAM! Percy Jackson Musical:
Prologue: The Day I Got Expelled
Breaks the 4th wall so amazingly
Fiddler. One of my all-time favorites. When I first saw it live my jaw dropped right from the opening number. It was magical.
That's only in the movie. The stage production doesn't have seasons of love til act 2 opening
@@pottergoose Oh, my bad. Thanks for the info. I love the song, though. It is awesome.
@@jonathangriffin8060the stage show opens with “December 24, 9 pm. Eastern standard time. From here on in I shoot without a script.”
You briefly mentioned "A Funny Thing...Forum" but I love that it's a show within a show. During Comedy Tonight, everyone on stage is an actor in the comedy that's about to start, and they're setting the stage.
i love to see the great comet rep, thanks msmojo :)
I thought "Willkommen" would be on this list ngl.
SIX MENTION 🗣🗣
IKR?!?! I've been low key obsessed with it, and was lucky enough to see it live!!!
As Joseph Joestar would say: NICE!
I’m sad I never heard about this show until early this summer. A local theater performed this play and it was phenomenal! The songs are so catchy
The opening to The Mystery of Edwin Drood should have been mentioned, it's such an underrated show as a whole
I was excited to see where "Welcome to the Renaissance" was on your list. 🤨 I'd put it pretty high up there as it introduces a show AND a whole era!
Also love "There You Are" from Edwin Drood because it sets the mood of the cheeky play within a play so well.
Yay Come From Away!! Such an incredible show. Should of won the tony in 2017 over Evan. 🇨🇦 🌎 ✈️
You overlooked a few. What about RENT, Ragtime, Doonesbury, LesMiz, Phantom of the Opera, or Wicked?
I can't believe you didn't mention the opening number from Ragtime . One of my favorites.
yesssssssss
At least you mentioned "Comedy Tonight". Adding that to the opening of "A Funny Thing....." saved the show.
So glad Pippin and Fiddler were in the video ( I played King Charles and one of the Poppas in high school productions).
Was hoping "The Whole Being Dead Thing" would be in here, glad to see it was! Even if it's technically the second song, it's definitely still part of the opening. There's quite a few shows in here I've been lucky enough to see in person, but Beetlejuice was a surprise favorite.
I love all the fourth wall breaks in the outsiders, I saw it front row and they were constantly talking to me and Ponyboy talks to the audience the whole time
Surprised Lion King wasn't there and being British I don't know if it ever was on Broadway but Greatest showman also drags you straight in
From Cats: “there’s a man over there with a look of surprise…”
Also, from Joseph: “… but if by chance you are here for the night…” this directly mentions the audience.
I like how the the very first song of Rock of Ages talks about the owner and Drew to the audience
What's up Duloc it's definitely my favorite. Happy friday morning, Emily, take care and God bless you. Greetings from Colombia to you as well
No "Jellicle Songs for Jellicle Cats"? That one makes me want to get up and dance!
I agree with you there.
@@FutureGroupsofRufus
You are ABSOLUTELY correct!!!
What happened to Comedy Tonight, from A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum? It at least deserved an honorable mention!
It did get an acknowledgement in front of the one from "The Frogs", but yeah, it should have gotten more love.
The Percy Jackson musical prologue is pretty good too, the characters are literally talking to the audience.
Clicked hoping Come From Away was on here… wasn’t disappointed
My surprise when the frogs made it on a non Sondheim related MsMojo list!
You definitely got #1 correct! I was also happy to see Welcome to the Rock on the list.
WOW I have so many favorites. I could not do without any of them.
Omg The Great Comet's opening being a mention! ITS TOTALLY ONE OF MY FAVORITE OPENING NUMBERSSS!! 🙌☄
Awesome list. I wonder if these could've been included on this list:

"When you're an Addams" from The Addams Family musical
"I hope I get it" from A Chorus Line
I love ❤your channel 👍thanks from France 🇫🇷 and 🔜
The opening song to lil Abner is pretty funny. I was in that show in my junior year of high school. Though to be honest, most of the songs were good.
I never see LA mentioned anywhere and it's such a fun musical w great songs!!
Yesssss Come From Away made it on the list!!!!!!!!!!!
Sweeney Todd should be number one, always number one
YESSSS I agree!!!!!! Gah it’s my favorite musical of all time😅
"Sweeney Todd" is number 2 on my list. It is a (very) close second to "Fiddler."
@@mervyngreene6687 yes but it should be number one. fiddler should be a close second
Well, this is fun.
"The day I got expelled" is a really good song
Aquarius from Hair. In some productions they walk over the backs of the seats in the orchestra to get to the stage. Up close and personal!
Prologue: We Might Play All Night from Passing Strange.
Favourite fourth wall break in Six is during Aragons number No way 😅
It’s not an opening song, but The Money Song from Avenue Q. They literally turned to the audience and started asking them for money.
The only one I felt was missing was Prologue: A Warning To The Audience from A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder
Love Ragtime so so good.
Book of Mormon!!!! Hello!!!!!!!
There YOu Are from The Mystery of Edwin Drood and Comedy Tonight from A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum
love ragtime the musical.
INTO THE WOODS?!?!?!!!!!!
Sad to see Welcome to the Renaissance in the opening, but not on the actual list
The fact that cats isn’t on this lists 😢
Super surprised Arabian Nights isn’t at least an honorable mention!
Im surprised that Rent wasnt on here. Theres a couple songs on there that break the 4th wall
cooooool
They forgot something rotten and into the woods
It should be in the top 5. But I don't agree with your number one pic.
I think six should be number one, but that's me
Not even an honorable mention for rent? Seriously?
where’s rent and falsettos 🧍
Cool
How is the Lion King missing from this list?
not mentioning classics like Cabaret or Cats is a mistake
Using Willkommen in the intro but not actually putting it on the list? Makes no sense. It definitely should be here.
What is broadway? And what is the ‘fourth wall’?
A funny thing happened on the way to the forum
how TF is willkomen not even an hounarble mention prob top 3 BTW
Magic To Do from Pippin is a good one, from an otherwise mediocre musical, but that's just my opinion.
I STRONGLY disagree. The original Broadway production of "Pippin" is (was) of the most underrated musical.
@@mervyngreene6687Okay. I respect your opinion.
Six isn't breaking the Fourth wall as its SUPPOSED TO BE A POP CONCERT!!!!
Aragon says « remember us from pbs? » right before they start saying who they are when they do it live :)
First one
