same!! I got overwhelmed and I'm glad I saw your video, because it literally answered all the questions I had! PLUS at the end when you were talking about how much/little crafting we do plus what KINDS of crafting. So informative, and a lot less stressful! Thank you
I like your video it is well explained when it comes to the all of the different Cricut machines, currently available and that is the point here. Do your own research if you like them , then go for it.
This was really very helpful, have a Library project coming up in February 24 and NO WAY can it be done by me cutting this out by hand one by one. The Explore Air, was what I was thinking of and you have cleared up some questions.....which I still have more questions, but I have some creatives I know who have one of these Circuts....anyway before I ramble, thank you for this breakdown, very helpful.
Great video. I'm still plugging along with my wonderful G1 Expression and all my wonderful cartridges, and my Juke box. I got the 12" Expressiin when they first came out.
That was a very helpful video thank you so much for that. I've been toying with the idea of getting a machine for a while but not so far taken the plunge as I don't really fancy another IT problem to resolve but I now gather that these are remarkably easy to set up and run - please let me know if you disagree! Cheers, Andy
i have just had the WORST experience with this product. after minimal use the roller balls became deformed and utterly useless. i watched some tutorials online, ordered replacement roller balls and attempted to DIY replace them to the most frustrating 5 hour experience with no avail. i contacted their customer service and since im past the warranty, theres nothing they can do. so pretty much i have a heavy ass machine that lasted me about 20 cuts, massive frustration, and the customer service agent telling me that they warn against replacing the roller balls DIY for safety reasons....i get it, my fingers are calloused from trying to unscrew each tiny screw in the most inopportune place... i get why it's a safety concern. HA! oh well. bottom line, dont buy this product
They are very user friendly. Any new machine can be overwhelming at first, but Cricut walks you through you first cut when you set it up. You can always come back here for lots of beginner projects with step by step instructions.
love your video ,but I'm new to the Cricut ,you have made me more aware of which one to buy ,maybe i missed it ,but I'm assuming i can download a picture to put on a t-shirt?
Hi there , I’m looking into the cricut came across your video. I’m interested in doing decal to put on arches and acrylic signs (for weddings, birthday, events) and possibly explore other areas down the track. Which machine would you recommend?
If you can get the Maker 3 for $299, that's an amazing deal! It will allow you to do everything including using smart materials (The original Maker doesn't do that) and use all the tools to cut thick materials and do engraving.
@@SarahVanderkooy awesome, I did order the maker 3 it should arrive within a few days. I can't wait to get started thank you for your videos and all. Can't wait to learn from you
Sarah. I’m 76 not tech savvy. I would like to print little animals, scenes etc from Pinterest to transfer onto stones. Some groupings have small empty spaces between animal’s legs which I now find too hard to cut out by hand. Would a Cricut be of use to me please?
I want to learn to start making leather purse charms. I also want to be able to cut vinyl and cards. I mainly need it to be able to cut leather for the purse charms. Which machine do you recommend?
I would opt for one of the Maker machines. The deep point blade is recommended for most types of leather, this blade with with Explore or Maker. Thick leather needs to be cut with the knife blade which only works with a Maker. You can also cut vinyl and cards with this machine.
Thank you for this super helpful video. Now that I know which cricut machine I should buy to start with my cricut journey, I have another question. Is buying refurbished cricut a good idea? It would be really helpful if you could give your input on this.
Hi, I wanted to get a little more inside on something. I'm a quilters plus a school bus driver, and I like to do die cut for my Elementary kids to help them on the bus also I'm learning how to English paper piecing, which uses die cuts shape. My question is, will the joy work for me? If not, which one, do you think would be the best? I won't do a lot of crafting with it.
The Joy will cut paper no problem, if you want to cut fabric you may want to go with one of the larger machines depending on the size of the material you want to cut. The regular blade on the Joy can cut bonded fabric or fabric with a backing. The Maker has a rotary tool if you want to cut thinner fabric
That would depend on the type of stencil material. For shoes you probably want to use a thin adhesive stencil material that can form to the shoe. In that case, any of these machines can cut that material. The Maker 3 will be the fastest and can cut the biggest sheet of stencil film, but the others work as well.
Those projects typically use adhesive or iron on vinyl and those materials can be cut with any of these machines. I would opt for the Explore Air 2 because it can cut up to 12x12 sheets of material. If you think you might want to work with larger designs consider the Explore 3 which can cut smart materials at much longer lengths.
Glad you liked the video! This would depend on the type of material you want to use. I have done cake toppers with thick cardstock, or layered cardstock attached to wood skewers. I like the Maker or Explore machines because I can use 12x12 sheets of paper. If you stick with paper and don't want to cut thicker materials like wood or do any engraving, an Explore Air 2 would be perfect for you.
Thank you for the video I found it very useful, I use templates to paint designs on to the fondant on my homemade cakes, now I would like to make my own templates, would the Cricut Explorer 2 cut food safe plastic
Hi I found this really useful. My daughter wants a cricket primarily for use creating wedding invitations/decorations/wording. Which machine would you recommend? Kind Regards Jane
Hi Jane. I would opt for an Explore or Maker. These are large enough to hold 12x12 paper for invitations. The Maker does so much more than paper. But if it's just invitations with writing cutting and maybe adding foil the Air 2 would be perfect.
If they are made out of cardstock any machine will cut that. The Joy Xtra (new in 2023 and covered in the updated video) holds an 8.5 x 11 piece and would be great for this project.
Great video, thank you, fantastic job at explaining them all! After watching several videos I still didn’t know which one I’d purchase. I do not want to sell anything. I’d just like to be able to make things for my family (especially my 1 yo granddaughter) and friends. With that said I think I will purchase the Explorer Air 2 unless the Air 3 is at a greater discount.
You can cut all kinds of paper and even wood with certain machines. The fine point blade that comes will all machines will cut up to 300 gsm paper. To go heavier you will need a deep point blade.
I am wanting to purchase a printer for my cricut projects on Black Friday. I am considering an ink tank version. Can you please give a recommendation on a tried and true printer? Thanks
My go to printer is a really basic and inexpensive. It's this Canon. I use it for all my stickers. amzn.to/47oUFIC I have used an Epson eco tank but I converted it for sublimation. It functions great and overall Epson makes good quality products.
Which machine will cut out a small stencil? Can the maker engrave on craft sticks? I'd love to make some other things down the road like sensory bin inserts but don't have time now. How thick of wood can the Maker cut?
Any machine can cut a stencil, you are just limited by size with the smaller machines. The engraving tip is not great for wood, I would add vinyl to craft sticks that can be cut with Cricut or use a wood burning tool to engrave them. The Maker can cut up to 1/8 inch thick basswood with the knife blade.
I've never cut decoupage paper with a Cricut. I know it's quite thin so you wouldn't need a special blade, the fine point blade that comes with any machine will work. The Joy Xtra hold an 8.5 x 11 sheet and the Explore and Makers hold a 12x12 sheet.
One last thing. Do you need laminate over regular car stickers (not decal) ? I just want to make regular car stickers. I might go with the cricut vinyl but don’t know if I need to laminate it for extra protection. Trying to save money and time. Thanks
To make a sticker truly waterproof you will want to laminate over it. A sticker has printed ink on it. If it's a vinyl decal that is just cut then no need to laminate anything.
Yes, it is free and works with all machines with no additional fees. However, there are some options only available with the paid Cricut Access subscription.
Hi!! I'm looking for something to make birthday invitations. For example large Ice skate on white cardstock with separate silver glitter paper for blade. I want to print and cut it for me. 8.5x11 paper. This is my primary use but iron ons is another thing i want to do. Which machine do you recommend? Also can i upload the file then just print it? Is it that easy?
Sounds like the Joy Xtra might be right for you, it came out after this video was made. I have a separate video on it if you want to take a look. You can cut up to 8.5 x 11 on a mat. It's great for paper crafts and can do iron on as well. Cricut Design Space does allow you to upload designs to print and cut or just cut. You can also use their library of designs. ruclips.net/video/W6mBdIlujU8/видео.html
Sounds like you'd need to cut vinyl, which all machines do well. And you wouldn't need to go too big, just enough for cups. Opt for the Air 2. If you think you might use more materials down the road the Maker might be a good option.
Just getting started with these kind of machines...do these machines allow you to cut your own designs, like an SVG path? I know the old ones mainly tried to sell you their design cartridges and didn't let you do your own thing..without a hack. ;-) Thanks for the video!
is it wise to get a protection plan for machines? Also . I want to do car decals stickers so I might get the maker 3 bundle, I want to sell car stickers so I hope I'm making the right choice with the maker 3 and water proof stickers,. Hopefully it will last on the car... any added advice would be awesome. Basically I just want to get the right machine and stickers for cars. If there are better machines for car decal and sticker materials, please let me know... thanks you for your videos
Car decals should be made with permanent vinyl, this will stick really well to the car and hold up to weather. It comes in a wide range of colors and can be cut with any machine. The Maker 3 will allow you to make the largest sizes so that's a good choice.
You can cut reusable stencil material with the fine point blade that comes with all machines. But I would opt for either the Explore or Maker to get the largest size stencil possible.
This machine doesn't print with ink, only cut or draw with a marker. If you can make your insert sheet by drawing the words then cutting it out, you could use this machine.
You only need a fine point blade that comes with every machine to cut HTV or iron on. This is the material you would use to attach logots to clothes. You'll want to consider the logo size. The Joy Xtra can use a letter size sheet of material on a mat and longer if you use a smart material. The Maker machines can cut up to 13 inches wide and really long using smart materials.
I want to... from *screenshots* on my Android phone, print out pages with multiple designs on each page on clear sticker sheets. can I do this from *screenshots*, and will this machine cut out the individual designs? I also have some downloaded as jpg's? Can I print out the sticker sheets on my home printer, then have the air 2 cut the individual designs? I am looking at their Cricut Explore Air 2
Great question. Using the Cricut app you can upload a photo or screenshot on your phone. Then use those images to create stickers just as you would with any image in Cricut Design Space. This works great with the Explore Air 2 and a home ink jet printer. I have a few videos on how to make stickers that might help too.
Hello, I really like to buy this machine but I am not sure if I can use it like printer too or not. I want make cards can this this machine directly print it on the card is it possible?
It is not a printer, you would need a separate machine to print images then this can cut. A Cricut can draw, there is a way to add a pen and write or draw on cards when you make them.
Thx for the info. I plan to become a Millionaire overnight 😂😂😂 Could u suggest a book that for newbies & starting your own business? Thx for speaking so clearly. 🎉
Such a helpful video! Thank you for uploading. Cyber Monday sales just started and i didn't realize there were 5 types of these machines. Explore 3 looks perfect for mono color high gloss finish for truck and tanker decals. I have a question: I want to avoid buying a wide format cutter and using expensive software, i.e. flexisign or versaworks .. if i have a decal that will be approximately 48 in wide by 10 ft long, i know the machine can cut upwards of 75 feet in length, but can the software take a full image, split an image into separate columns, and cut them in segments? Example would be 12"x10' x4 rows for complete logo.
The Cricut software is pretty easy to work with, but I haven't done what you are talking about. You would have to manually do that and I'm not sure exactly how you would do it in Design Space. You can easily upload images to Design Space so if you were able to create the image and slice it in another software you could upload those pieces to Design Space.
I would opt for the Maker or Maker 3, you can cut it with the regular blade that comes with the other machines but the rotary blade is really nice for a smooth cut on some types of felt.
Before you buy somethings to consider. Do you have a full time job? Do you have a computer and computer/tech savvy? Do you have a dedicated/spare room/space to use? Do you have a disposable amount of income?patience? If you answered no to any of these questions Cricut machines are not for you. The machine is the cheap part. What is rarely considered is the amount of money you will spend on material and accessories. Also your time you will spend learning these complex machines. You are better off just hiring a print shop to make whatever it is you want made. Ask me how I know.
This is so very true. Sadly if you are living on ss even if you love crafting. You definitely need to look at the cost of the machine and more importantly all of the cost to even use it 😢 I pretty much must stick with stencils. And writing free hand with paint markers. Unless you make ALOT of money or have a good amount of money leftover each month to play with, it's impossible to buy all the extra stuff you need for these. They are truly an expensive hobby. And if you plan on making things to sale. Know that in order to make money doing this, you are going to have to charge more than stores and will need a very high end look to be able to get enough for the items to make a profit. 😢

Great question. Using the Cricut app you can upload a photo or screenshot on your phone. Then use those images to create stickers just as you would with any image in Cricut Design Space. This works great with the Explore Air 2 and a home ink jet printer. I have a few videos on how to make stickers that might help too.
can the cricut joy make nice cake toppers?
Yes! You are only limited by the width of the machine.
@@SarahVanderkooy thanks . Can you please give me the name of the pen I need?
Can I make a cake topper with the cricut joy?
I have made them out of cardstock then glued wood skewers to them. The Joy could definitely do that!
@@SarahVanderkooy alright, thank you very much
Thanks!
Thx for the info. I plan to become a Millionaire overnight 😂😂😂
Could u suggest a book that for newbies & starting your own business? Thx for speaking so clearly. 🎉
You mentioned smart materials a couple times. What are smart materials?
They do not need a mat to cut so they are not limited by the length of the mat, they feed right into a machine.
Thanks so much1
I have Cricut craft Provo need D I Y HOW to
Which do you recommend for mostly cutting felt?
All very good points, thanks for sharing your insight.
Imagine i want a text print on the tshirt besides the machine what expenses will I have?
The code creative is not working
Thanks for bringing this to my attention! The code recently changed to 10-CREATIVE I'll update the description as well.
No Cricut Joy Xtra?
There's an updated video with the Xtra and Venture. Link is in the description.
Merhaba Türkçe altyazı ekler misiniz ? Anlamıyorum malesef .
I am purchasing a cricut and found the cricut maker lilac for 70.00 what is the difference in colors.
That's a great deal! The colors are just for looks, different stores carry unique colors. Same exact machine.
Where was this on sale for that price?
Whats the average lifespan?
Probably depends on use. I haven't worn one out yet, but I've replaced blades pretty often. My oldest machine I've had for 5 years.
hi i got the cricut explore 3 yesterday for my birthday and it cam with too downlods iv set it up and made an account but what do i do with them im an old beginer
Congratulations! Once you've completed the new machine set up the bonus downloads are loaded into your Cricut Design Space account. You can access them in the images tab. This article from Cricut is a step by step on how to find them. help.cricut.com/hc/en-us/articles/360009382074-How-do-I-find-the-free-images-that-came-with-my-Cricut-machine-
At 2:29 you say “it can cut over a hundred”. A hundred what?
