I can understand this. It's why I went with 15% on the front 2 windows instead of 5% like in the rear. It certainly helps with visibility with the mirrors as well. Thank you for watching!
The tint on my Tesla is perfect for Florida. But will I get ticketed going to states with different levels of allowance? I have posted this question on multiple channels and never received a reply.
I suppose that’s up to local law enforcement ultimately. Logically they should see your plate and realize. The tint in this video is less than legal in California and I’ve never been pulled over in 30+ years of similar tint. Your luck may vary of course. Excellent question!
Great and Informative details- Thank you. After your experience with the roof tintof 50% , you stated that there is some heat coming through. If heat reduction was your main goal, would you have considered a higher % tint on the roof?
Percentage only deals with darkness, not heat reduction. It’s still a big piece of glass facing the sun. Any reduction is better than nothing. Note: newer model Teslas do a better job from the factory than this 2019. Thanks for watching.
Thanks. Those are matte black stripes. Just a little DIY I did a while ago. I used VViViD Matte Black Vinyl Wrap. Also used knifeless tape to make the smaller stripe. Took 2 attempts. Kinda fun learning. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for watching. It’s pretty dark, I’m not gonna lie. I’m used to it after 30 years having it that dark. Learned to really look for headlights. I’ll probably go lighter next time.
5% at night is not great. Especially in less lit areas. It’s hard to see out. There’s been a few times I’d make turns on people crossing the street because I couldn’t see them. I use to do 5% with all my cars before and I stopped because of the visibility seeing out at night. I do 15% all around or 5% rear window only.
Appreciate you sharing your feedback! Wifey hates direct sunlight so I was thinking to go with the max/darkest tint at 5% on the panoramic sunroof. Do you think this would be a concern for cracked glass? That wouldn't be any different than tinting your rear windows at 5%, you think? BTW, this is coming from TX weather in the summer.. Hi - curious if you've noticed an improvement in battery savings with the tint? I have a 2022 Model 3 in Phoenix and am seeing about a 5% battery drop per day while the car is parked outside at work. Thanks!
Check with your tint shop, they have a device that can detect what amount is already in the glass (there is some stock) and then decide on the % tint you need. I did 5% in the rear, basically limo tint and it only lets 5% light though for instance. Most states allow tint behind the driver of any percentage. Thanks for watching!

Question 🤔 why didn't you tint the roof 5 percent and go with 50 ? I live in Phoenix and when I get my Tesla I'm tinting the car and debating tinting the roof or use a sunshade. I never cared about sun roofs so I would go 5 percent on roof. Did you not want to because you were afraid that if you went with 5 then you wouldn't be able to see out the roof ? If that is the case it makes sense but I will go 5 percent all the way around.
At the time 5% and 50% offered the same exact heat rejection. That said we have a sunshade on our Model Y that works surprisingly well. ruclips.net/video/yvfGk7Appqo/видео.htmlsi=aGBYbOaQkXqNbRXK thanks for watching!

Love the detailed video. Quick question for you. Did you ever research 3M crystaline window tint? Apparently their tint reflects the heat outside instead of accumulating heat between the tint layer and the the glass. This sounds awesome for the roof tint. Curious if you did research on that and why did you choose ceramic which collects heat over the 3M crystaline which reflects it?
I didn't realize at the time of this video that I actually got 3M Crystaline IR (according to my receipt that I dusted off) I will say that even with this on my roof for a couple of summers now, it still gets pretty warm (not hot) compared with my Y without anything aftermarket on it, both are about the same now. So either there is a difference in 3 and Y, or 2019 and 2022 model cars. Thanks for watching.
@@TeslaTipsTrips You're welcome! Another RUclipsr did a different brand of ceramic coating on the roof and told his audience the roof is still scorching to the touch after a couple hours in the sun. Warm is MUCH better than scorching. Thanks! Now I need to find a 3M Crystaline IR provider in Orlando
Spoke to a 3M professional on the phone and he clarified a few things for me. 3M Crystalline is a different type of film from the 3M ceramic IR. Crystalline usually costs 1200 to do a whole car. You probably got the 3M ceramic IR which is what I was talking about earlier based on the pricing you told us in your video.
@@TeslaTipsTrips Thought so. There is a small potential of cracking with the ceramic IR if there's already a pre-existing manufacturing defect with the glass. Basically, what you said in your video. The installer is important too. There isn't a risk of overheating the glass and exposing the defect with crystalline but you pay for that ease of mind lol
@TeslaTipsTrips I'm curious to know I have been shopping around to find a place that does it and all 3 said 20% is the darkest you can go with crystaline

That's awesome thanks for the kind words. You're gonna love your Y. We did just our front two windows on our Y in December since it wasn't summer and we did 20% to match the factory tint in the back. Now that summer is coming we will now do probably 50% in the rear for slightly more privacy and heat rejection. It's all about heat rejection wherever you live. Let me know if you have more questions. Thanks for watching.

@@Mizabeyta hi there! I did end up getting the ceramic tint on our Model Y Performmace. I live in the Sacramento area and used Genesis Window Tinting I. Elk Grove. They specialize in Teslas and did an amazing job! The tint brand we used is called Llumar Ceramic Tint. We did the windshield at 75% (clear ceramic for heat rejection), front driver/passenger 30%, back windows 50% and 75% on the roof. We didn’t want to disturb the great view out the sunroof so we opted not to tint but to add a layer of ceramic protection to deflect heat. It worked well but with the Valley heat, we added a roof mesh cover (just for the summer) and we don’t feel the heat at all! The sunroof mesh cover we have is from TParts and it’s amazing. Comes with suction cups and magnets that hold everything secure and in place. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the video. I live in IE. Does the 20% on front and 50% on rears look about equal on the outside? I am debating on 50 vs 70% on windshield, also whether or not I want the back glass much darker than stock. Any tip?@@TeslaTipsTrips
Yeah, am pissed, I should have done the whole top part of the back. the tint guy said you want just half, I didn't know what he was talking about. I thought he meant the part above my head. So I said YES. Now when I drive I see that LINE. And my OCD bugs me. But I can probably find some old window tint and fix it myself just so the line isn't in my view. The funny thing, I drive with the cameras and hardly look at the rear mirror now.
@@qhiinc I have only tinted my Model 3 Roof so far without issue. For my Model Y, I haven't had a chance yet, and it seems cooler as it comes stock than my 3 is, so I may not. The same rumors flew around with the 3 when I did that one a few years ago and nothing came of it for me. I think it's just something lazy tint shops say to get out of doing it. Or improper installation by poor tint shops. A good shop that knows these cars would not shy away from tinting the roof. My 2 cents.
I don’t understand how it’s so hard to tint the rear window. You say it’s because of the head rests and the seats leaving little room for the technician…but the head rests are removable and the seats lie flat.
Regarding your comment... "haven't been pulled over since the 80s" I hate to make it about race but this is what is often referred to as privilege. As a black person, I don't have that same level of comfort so went with the recommended tint that was legal in my state. I was pulled over while on foot in my "white" neighborhood while checking my mail lock box and having to prove I lived there. The officer said someone reported someone tampering with boxes. So they assumed it was me because I don't look like most people in my neighborhood. (Mind you, I had my mailbox key in hand and was opening the box) Stuff like that is hella traumatizing and I certainly considered it when tinting. Always felt like I'd be more likely to be pulled over than "other" people. Sorry for writing a mini book, but great video btw.
There are laws in place about voiding a warranty, there are laws in place about window tint, speeding, and no front plate, too. (I have no skin in this game, just find your dichotomy amusing.)

I suppose that’s up to local law enforcement ultimately. Logically they should see your plate and realize. The tint in this video is less than legal in California and I’ve never been pulled over in 30+ years of similar tint. Your luck may vary of course. Excellent question!
Thank you. This was insightful about the plate being a consideration.
The tint is legally limited to the state your car is registered to no matter where your at
Great video. How is the 5% at night, can you see out or see people & other cars?
It's dark, really dark. I don't drive much at night, but when I do, I'm extra careful for sure. Thanks for the complement!
I love the look! I got the same color and would love to do the stripes on the hood, what color are they and how you install them, thanks
Thanks. Those are matte black stripes. Just a little DIY I did a while ago. I used VViViD Matte Black Vinyl Wrap. Also used knifeless tape to make the smaller stripe. Took 2 attempts. Kinda fun learning. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the video. How is the vision looking out the windows at night?
Thanks for watching. It’s pretty dark, I’m not gonna lie. I’m used to it after 30 years having it that dark. Learned to really look for headlights. I’ll probably go lighter next time.
Don’t they back seats fold allowing for better access to the glass?
Yes but there is still a deck in the way on a 3.
Fun video, Does the back glass have UV protection like the roof glass?
Great video/info, thanks! Your car is a beauty!
Thank you!
Great video, very helpful.
Thank you very much, it means a lot!
How is night time visibility for 5% rear tint in dimmer light areas?
It’s not great, but you get used to it. Thanks so much for watching!
5% at night is not great. Especially in less lit areas. It’s hard to see out. There’s been a few times I’d make turns on people crossing the street because I couldn’t see them. I use to do 5% with all my cars before and I stopped because of the visibility seeing out at night. I do 15% all around or 5% rear window only.
so ceramic tint isn’t optical clarity? at night?
could you share the shop you did the tint work at?
Autoskinz in Santa Clarita California. Amazing shop!
Thx in advance!
Have decided what to do with the roof? Tint or shade? My wife is not a fan of direct sunlight either. I’ve of glass cracking b/c of the heat.
@@Vince-ur7oc ordered around Thanksgiving, still waiting. May decide to buy and sell to someone else who doesn’t want to wait at this point when available
How does the rear look at night, especially with 5%? I was thinking of going a lot higher so I still had good night visibility. Thanks!
I won't lie, it's really dark, you need to really look out for headlights, and use your nav. I might go lighter next time myself.
@@TeslaTipsTrips Thanks for the quick reply. Yeah, I've heard people going like 50-80%. 5% seemed really dark for a rear window
I want like a transitions lenses type tint
That is an awesome idea!
@@TeslaTipsTrips I’m v hesitant to get tint because of nighttime driving and I think if it could change based on the solar conditions would be ideal
@@davidkaplan5517 it does change the game at night for sure. My Model 3 is even darker than the stock Y percentage at 20%. Lots of headlight watching.
Hi - curious if you've noticed an improvement in battery savings with the tint? I have a 2022 Model 3 in Phoenix and am seeing about a 5% battery drop per day while the car is parked outside at work. Thanks!
If Sentry mode is on, that would definitely contribute to a battery drop.
The law in my state says that the tint needs more than 35% sunlight to shine through. Does that mean I can get a 65% tint?
Check with your tint shop, they have a device that can detect what amount is already in the glass (there is some stock) and then decide on the % tint you need. I did 5% in the rear, basically limo tint and it only lets 5% light though for instance. Most states allow tint behind the driver of any percentage. Thanks for watching!
It means you can get 35% tint. The number the tint is referred to as is the amount of light it allows through.
Another quick question can you remove the little 3m stickers that are on the tint or are they non removable ?????
I'm not sure what you mean? I didn't have any 3M stickers, I'm guessing those should have been removed by the installer. Thanks for watching!

Autoskinz in Santa Clarita are incredible. They even have a Tesla loaner car.

can you ceramic coat tinted windows?
I'm not sure why you would want to?
15% front
5% rear and back roof/rear window
20% windshield strip & front roof window
15% is front driver and passenger? Rear window was 5%. Roof was 50%. What was rear seats, also 15%?

Those are 15%. Thanks for watching!
how is it seeing at night?
I won't lie, it's certainly darker. I don't drive a ton at night, but I'm used to looking for headlights for sure. Much more careful than normal. You can always go lighter. Thanks for watching!
What shop did you go to? I also live in LA and want to tint my Tesla
Autoskinz in Santa Clarita. Top notch. They know their Teslas for sure. Highly recommend! Thanks for watching
Lol of course last part of video you say you wanted to see out of roof 😊
At the time 5% and 50% offered the same exact heat rejection. That said we have a sunshade on our Model Y that works surprisingly well. ruclips.net/video/yvfGk7Appqo/видео.htmlsi=aGBYbOaQkXqNbRXK thanks for watching!
Great video, super helpful, thanks Kerry! Getting my M3 delivered soon and am definitely getting the tinting all around. Question: are those wheel coverings? If so, where'd you get them?
Thank you very much, congratulations on getting a Tesla! No those are the original 19" Sport Wheels that came with the car that I had powder coated matte black (another video) Thanks for watching!
I don’t understand why the back window would be a problem. The back seats fold down? At least they do on mine.
The back deck is still in the way on a 3. Thanks for watching.
Just had Global tint applied to all the glasses in my Model Y.
33% all privacy glasses
18% front 2 windows
50% for the windshield (quite a gamble, LOL)

I got 75% windshield in LA on Model Y - very happy with that.
hey, i really appreciate this.
Thank you very much. I’m thinking about updating it for my Model Y, people seem to really like this vid. I appreciate you watching!
@@Opeth614 pulled the receipt again. You are correct. 3M Ceramic IR
What shop did you use in Los Angeles? I live here as well
Autoskinz in Santa Clarita. They are Tesla pros for sure. They have a Model 3 loaner if you book it.
your wheel looks cool🔥, where did you got them?
Thank you! Those are stock 2019 Tesla Sport 19” Wheels that I had powder coated matte black.
How did they do 5%?? 3m doesn't offer a crystaline in 5%
Quite honestly....I don't know, I'll ask them, I know the owner.
@TeslaTipsTrips I'm curious to know I have been shopping around to find a place that does it and all 3 said 20% is the darkest you can go with crystaline
My model 3 is so illegal in Connecticut. No front plate and 15% tint all around. I had windshield done too but in 2018 he couldn’t do the back in one piece. Tint rolls weren’t wide enough at the time. I only paid 250.00 cash but I was his UPS Driver so I’m sure I got a deal
Sounds cool. Gotta make these things your own with so many out there. Thanks for watching!
Thank u so much! U video helps me a lot 🤗🤗
Why did you do your back passengers windows darker than the driver and passenger? Why not make them all match?
Privacy and heat reduction. Thanks for watching!
Oh read your comment again. Slightly better visibility having the fronts slightly lighter.
Thanks for the video! We have our model Y performance on order and live in Northern California. Would you recommend the same tint percentages for the Model Y? New subscriber here by the way, and love all your Tesla content! Super helpful for us newbies! 😁

Good job, Kerry. Thank you for the tips. I need a tinted windshield, roof, and back glass. Just got YP. Will go with your recommendation. Love your channel.
Thank you so much! For our Model Y Performance, we tinted everything except the windshield and roof, so all the back glass. Let me know how it goes, definitely go with ceramic. I have heard the roof on the Y is better than the 3 and heat reduction, so we didn't do that (for now) Thanks for watching. BTW we did 20% on the front 2 windows, and 50% on all the rears for the Y.
Thanks for the video. I live in IE. Does the 20% on front and 50% on rears look about equal on the outside? I am debating on 50 vs 70% on windshield, also whether or not I want the back glass much darker than stock. Any tip?@@TeslaTipsTrips
What are the percentages you on each window?
I have 5% on the rears, 15% on the fronts, and 50% on the glass roof. Thanks for watching!
You could take it back and have them redo just the rear window. Say you don’t like how it turned out from their recommendation. Thanks for watching!

@@TeslaTipsTrips - Awesome, I have a new 2022 Model Y and there was some scuttlebutt regarding the overheating and possible cracking issues.
