There is a risk that once a low yield nuke is set off, a low or non-escalatory response emboldens the further deployment of them and then such behaviour starts to become normalised, which is a terrifying prospect and just can’t be allowed to happen.
If Russia deployed a nuke, it would simply have to be met with such an overwhelming response that says “No, we will not allow the world to cross this line under any circumstances!” That response may be nuclear or more likely conventional but whatever it might be, it would have to put Putin down so hard, he and any other autocratic madmen never contemplate the use of them ever again.

The U.S/Nato have always been starting wars throughout the world, bombing and killing millions of people of colour, plundering their natural resources, laundering their money, and starving millions of more people. Israel’s iron dome is awesome, but that’s old smart technology that we gave them. The US’s Iran dome is beyond anything we cannot fully imagine.
We’ve had Star Wars capability since the 1980s during the Reagan administration. We have hypersonic railguns (it’s beyond hypersonic actually) technology. We have the best intel (by far) in the world. We i’m doubtfully have a wide range of sabotage capabilities. We have EMP weapons, probably a wide range of them that could disrupt any sort of missile guidance systems (Smart bombs) and what have you. Our military literally surrounds Russia. We know exactly where every nuclear device that they have is located. It’s yield, it’s programed trajectory, it’s propulsion system, exactly how long it would take in flight. We almost certainly have plans to disable their nuclear capability within 15 minutes or less. We could launch a coordinated attack using all our means to deny them the ability to launch! Allow these things are just one phase of 20 different phases to stop them.
probably more ways then that. And lots of things that only God and the US knows about.
Also, have you seen Russian tactics? Horrible tactics. Just horrible!
I honestly think that if the US really wanted to, they could completely dominate Russia! Prob have it all written out in statistics too. There is probably a 95% chance or more would would deny them the dance to use their nukes!

A 1-kiloton detonation in a city with a beltway would, in just the first few minutes, be MUCH worse than 1/10 as horrific as a 10-kiloton detonation. Tens of thousands of cars traveling opposite directions over several lanes at 60 mph, the flash of the bomb, now tens of thousands of drivers instantly blinded....... absolutely NO way anyone will think fast enough to look away. This ALONE is probably the best act of the play; it gets exponentially worse by the second from there.
I grew up directly across the Severn River from the US Naval Academy. Tom Clancy's books were the fruits of enormous amounts of research and resources at the Naval Ship Research Development Center at the mouth of the Severn River. Between that site and the world's largest submarine radio comms facility as its neighbor, Annapolis was surely a high-ranking target in the Cold War. In early 60's I began finding some interesting landfill materials in the valley at the edge of the driveway........ my maternal great-grandparents, their siblings, and sons came from Sicily and became architects/draftsmen/technical illustrators. One made his career with Baltimore Gas & Electric; many prints of his drafting were scattered among Civil Defense survival manuals, technical data on nuclear weapons effects, even novels about "atomic war". I'm not as bad as Woody Allen when it comes to obsessing, but...... my whole childhood was fraught with apprehension at the sight of contrails, wishing I hadn't read "Triumph" by Philip Wylie, nor watched those newsreels on weapons testing in the Pacific.
It's always been all about the fragility of some individual's masculinity, and of course in terms of civility it does require a foundation of reasonable intelligence....... seems like Putin's heavily burdened by the former, but there's a more fragile connection between civility and intellect. One nagging question about the hammer coming down on Ukraine and Trump's realization Ukraine wasn't about to become the tool of such an atrocity of a fool. All the more reason for DOJ to watch Trump's recent Michigan rally and "GET IT" about Trump. Too easy to see Trump gobbling up every penny Putin would pay for from Trump's personal CIA.

And he abandened billions of dollars worth of our military equipment there. Biden cuts our oil production, so gas prices go sky high, causing inflation and interest rate increases, like we haven't see in 40 years. Then he grovels to the Saudi's to produce more oil. Now they're cutting production. Biden's using up our strategic oil reserves trying to lower gas prices to buy votes, disregarding that the reserves are there for military emergenices, which we may need, thanks to him. Biden and Harris are allowing a full scale invasion of our country, with 8000 illegals crossing everyday, a traitorous failure of performing their sworn duty to protect our borders. Everybody in the world sees that sleepy Joe is senile, weak and incompetent, not to mention corrupt. So Putin saw his opportunity to invade Ukraine, with the associated death and destruction and now potential nuclear war. China threatens Taiwan. North Korea is firing ballistic missles over Japan. None of these things were happening during Trump's Presidency. We had a great economy, gas prices were low, no inflation, low interest rates, and the border was being secured. And Putin, China, and N. Korea didn't pull this crap while Trump was in charge. And despite the constant harassment of the crooked Democrats and liberal media, Trump was successful. It's the difference between a strong, smart President and a weak, stupid one with bad policy. So, the world would not be going to hell if Trump were still President. It's the people who voted Biden into office who are responsible for the mess the world is in today. Yet, they seem not to be smart enough to realize that, or won't admit it. They just ignore their responsibility for the Biden catastrophe while diverting attention trying to make fun of Trump, even though he's been out of office for 2 years this january. Biden's a basket case. Always was. His mental decline is evident on a daily basis. You must be so proud.

Just watched a WWI Summary Vid a few days ago and it feels ironic how Russia is keeping up with the tradition of getting heavy losses at modern times.

Russia is down to 140 million people though with only 7 million men aged 20-29. They cannot afford the looses they once could. In WWI they had 161 million people with the average age os 22. Probably less than 1/4 of the military age folks it once had.

@@russell6075 I wrote this under the context of having incompetent Generals at the helm. Russia was overpowered with arsenal but did poorly strategically for some reason. Ukraine was outgunned but still did greatly in the long run.

In Nicholas and Alexander by Robert Massey, he quotes the last tsar giving a speech to his officers, reminding them to not just throw their lives away, but to make their passing useful.
Underestimating Russia is bad idea. (I do not support Putin or his invasion of Ukraine. I do not think that Russia will win.)
