I was planning to go there too but I all ready have a pet ball python but I feel like I want more reptiles but idk if I should because I'm still new to owning a pet snake
kingblaze 2107 you should go and talk to experts, or just look at other reptiles, I can't have a snake till I'm 17 (I'm 14 today it's by birthday yay) but I'm still going
GoHerping thanks for this video man! It's perfect for me! I'm going to a reptile convention this October and I'm planning on getting a ball python! Your videos actually inspired me to become a reptile owner and in only a month I'll be one! Wish me luck!
Another tip, bring cash, because a) it limits the amount of money you can spend, and b) a lot of the vendors (at least at my local expos) won't take cards. Sure, expo venues usually have atms nearby, but it's easier to regulate yourself when you pay with the cash you bring.
also vendors will be more likely to negotiate if cash is on hand. I negotiated free kit with my garg and 25 off the total because I had the cash on the spot. :>
Some more random tips for anyone interested: 1. Make a list of the things you're looking to buy and of any questions you want to ask, it can be easy to forget to buy an item or ask an important question! 2. Take the breeder's business card that they usually have at their table, it's good for when you have additional questions after the expo, and most breeders don't mind the occasional text 3. Don't feel like you have to buy an animal that you've handled/shown interest in, the pressure can be a lot when the breeder is right there watching you but ultimately it's better to be 100% sure that the animal is right for you Cheers!
I went to an expo "to just look." It's near impossible to leave without getting something. I came home with a ball python. I had done moderate research, but it was a little impulsive! I would recommend having the tank, substrate and environment ready before getting an animal! When I took her home, all I wanted was for her to be comfortable in her tank but it took me a while to gather supplies and set it up
Before I go I usually have a few animals in mind that I “might” come home with. So in the week before I set up two or three enclosures just in case I come home with something. I’ve only been to a show twice but bought something both times. First show was a Vietnamese centipede and second was a milk snake and a alligator snapper lol. I feel like a tweaker walking around an expo lmao
Idk if you mentioned this and I missed it but, BRING YOUR OWN HAND SANITIZER! Breeders and myself are more willing to let you handle if they see you use it.
My tip would be if you know what reptile you want, have a list of questions prepared. It can exciting in the heat of the moment getting a new animal and it might slip your mind to ask obvious questions like what it's eating, it's age etc. I got my first ball python last weekend at my local expo and I ended up having to email the breeder a day later with basic questions because I was so excited :P
Yeah. Like when I got my beardie, I was so excited to get my first beardie that I completely forgot to ask what age he is! Now until I can go back or email them, I have no idea his age or much about him
Jane Doe Deer true. I plan on getting a Miami phase corn snake but I might get a tarantula (can remember the scientific name whoops). It's also a good idea to carry around a list of questions to ask the vender.
I would also ask what type of substrate the animal was kept in prior coming to the show. I've had trouble with animals I've gotten from expos that had impaction unfortunately.
My first animal was a praying mantis and I kept it how the seller told me which was completely wrong. I noticed that something was wrong so I did my own research but it was too late so safe her. Since then I don't trust anybody who wants to sell me a pet. Its the best to inform yourself about the breeders who are on the expo and buy from the ones with a good reputation
YamiNoSensei13 familiarizing yourself with vendors also keeps you from supporting horrible businesses and can help increase your chances of getting a specimen that was better taken care of
The biggest issue i come across is that the sellers are often hired by the breeders but only trained on specific species and general questions so they get confused and mix up information. Its vary disheartening.
@@stadzh it was their first pet. Unfortunately a lot of people don't understand the commitment at first. I know I didn't with my first hamster. I made very fast research and just listened to the pet shop owner because I trusted that they knew better. They didn't. I didn't even make enough research about hamsters until after a couple months of getting my second one after I stumbled upon Jenna Marbles hamster video. She is now being spoiled and living her best life. My cat got the same treatment, knowing my previous blunder, I made a lot of research to know exactly how to make sure he thrives (l got him off the street and wasn't even counting on keeping him at first so that's why I didn't research for him beforehand). And I'm still lacking. I won't do that mistake again. I want a snake now and it's been over a year of research and since I livein a third world country and only found one shop selling reptiles (and they're so bad. They don't have any hides for their animals. Housing two adult ball python together. Only feed live. The leopard geckos are all together and the poor animals are in such a bad state), I'm doing more research until I can find more, specially frozen mice since I don't want to feed live. If I don't find that then I won't buy a snake. I made mistakes before but I'm counting on making things better in the future.
Check online for reviews of vendors. There are a few seriously shady ones here in my state who are at ALL of the expos. Like this one guy is known to pick up animals at the airport on the way to the expo.
You have everything on your channel that a reptile keeper needs to know! 😊 Love your channel. You can tell that you care about your animals and content!
There's the Sacramento expo next weekend and I have many many money ready to spend on my beautiful white lip boi I am so ready if I do not get him I will Cry
if the morph is the defining factor about wether you'll get a snake or not, you shouldn't own them in the first place, unless it's some venomous view only snake, which in this case it'd definitely not. it should be more about health, personality, what it feeds on, and other similar stuff, not just how it looks.
white lip pythons are not a morph, they are a species of leiopython from Indonesia. I have a certain locality I am aiming to get, and have been interested in and done research on for years. It is 100% okay to purchase a snake based on morph as long as you can care for it properly, and it's not a morph (like spider or lemon frost leopard geckos that carry cancerous genetics) that has demand which continues to promote breeding a gene associated with neurological or other issues (head wobble). I do, however, have any issue if someone acquires a "problem gene" animal through rescue or adoption.
Taking my son to one this weekend for a beardie! His birthday is close to Christmas so I ordered all the supplies to be delivered while we’re gone, as far as he knows it’s just to look so he’s gonna be shocked when I let him pick one for an early gift!
I normally go to this reptile festival in my city every year.I don’t normally buy something but now that I have my own reptile I maybe will.I bought a thermostat from the reptile festival after a guy said it may be the temperature on why it might be but eating. It worked!
I got my 4 month old rainwater albino leopard gecko named Nellie from an expo in Tampa back in November and it was the best expo i've been to. Everyone there was very kind and all of the reptiles seemed nice and healthy. If you are in the Tampa area, consider going!
My breeder is usually at the local Repticon. There he sold a lady one of his first normal female ball python breeders for about $250 when it was around $50 in store. This is common at most Repticons because you don't want to have to drive to them so if you want it then and there Repticon prices are usually higher. (Not all)
I've notice this in your past couple vids but I really appreciate how open you are about making mistakes. I feel like other reptile YTs/bloggers (even ones I like) always say it's okay to make mistakes but appear to have been born as master herptologists. (Also, 'spicy negotiation' had me cracking up at 3:00am)
My reptile expos are awesome, they don’t allow wild caught animals, the breeders are small and local, the prices and variety are the best around, the breeders are knowledgeable and truly care about the well being of the animals, and most of all the animals are so healthy and happy and when you buy from them you’re supporting the reptile society where I live, so I go there every time, even if all I buy is supplies, I have a great time. I’ve never had a bad experience there.
Basic corn snake care should apply, but feed smaller rodents and make sure the cage is "baby-proofed" (keeping small holes closed so that they can't get their head stuck, providing appropriately sized hides, etc)
Emma Stanworth Ohh, congratulations! I'm still struggling to convince my parents to let me get one, they know I've done tons of research and I have an estimation of the total cost, which I can afford to pay for entirely by myself, but they still won't let me, and the only reason I've been given is "Snakes are creepy."
IceRiver1020 I currently own an adult corn, it took me 1 minute to convince my mum for a snake lol 😂. I've changed my mind about getting another corn. I was offered a 17ft Burmese python for free from a breeder but I haven't got space lol. I'm just gonna get a boa
Bonus tip thing: +when handling the reptile, check for mites and ticks too. If its a black reptile like a mexican black kingsnake, run your hand across the body and check if theres black spots on ur hand, which are the mites (doesnt have to be all black). Got this from Tyler Rugge
I actually got my Hognose Snake for free. No, I'm not joking. A dude came up to me while I was exercising on my bike and said he saw me at a Reptile-con. He actually lives in the neighborhood next to mine and asked if I wanted one. My mom wasn't so enthusiastic when I came home with a roughly month old Danger Noodle but hey, she was a keeper and free at that with the set up and everything. Plus she's nice to play WoW with. Hats off to that gentleman.
I’m guilty of impulse buying. We went “Just to look” and I ended up buying Risk, my scorpion and all the stuff he needs there. Already did the research for one but man was it hard to not get him when he was right there. Seller was really nice though and answered all my annoying noob scorpion owner questions lol
I had done 3 months of research on axolotls before buying it at an expo and the breeder also went over the basic care even tho i told him i did research and what he said went along with what ive looked up
Last repticon I went to I got a albino purple phase reticulated python that was originally 350 which is already a good deal if you didn’t know and he easily went down to 300$! Was probably the best purchase I’ve ever made.
I know ik 4 years late buuttt I'm going to my first reptile expo repticon in Tampa Florida very exited I have a corn snake currently so we are planing on upgrading him and getting a milk snake or a king snake (probably a milk snake) and putting him in the corn snakes tank all in one day man that will be exhilarating
I showed my moms lot of your videos and she let me buy my first ball python. I saved up $700 to pay for my banana male and all of his stuff :D you should make a video on redecorating one of your animals tanks, lots of people enjoy watching those.
You also mentioned purchasing one animal at a time. I do understand that. However impulse shopping can get you for sure. Personally though I buy multiples at a time and here is what I do when I attend. First at home I set up the cages (quarantined)for what I am thinking of buying and do my research. Then I write it down on a list. Now when I go I am already set up for the animal I want. At the same token If I do an impulse purchase I try to keep it within the same perimeters (cages, size, environment, etc..) of what I originally wanted with maybe a few minor changes. Also I never do impulse on a rare animal I know nothing about. I learned the hard way with this when it came to panther chameleons (not that they are rare, but I knew nothing). I now have two in my collection but my first one I was not ready to take on that challenge, and the animal suffered for my stupidity. I felt horrible. Even with that being said. Never give up. If you really want it as a pet. go for it. If it dies it may not have even been your fault. It could have had an infection before you bought it, and that may or may not be the breeders fault. A lot of people are handling these things and could pass on an infection from one animal to another. still do not blame them, and do not get discouraged. You will still have the set up. Take time, do more research and do you best to find out what went wrong so that it does not happen again.
There are no expos in Norway. And almost no breeders. And they don't live where I live. So I have to buy my gecko from a pet shop, but I have made sure the shop workers have taken care of it properly and it seems healthy and happy. So I think it will be fine!
I found an expo near me in October. I'm kinda excited and already have a clear idea of what I will be looking for and will hopefully have made preparations for the animal I want before the expo comes around. Thanks for the advise!
I plan on going to Repitcon in a few soon to look and get information. I never owned or taken care of a reptile before but they look really cool. I probably won't buy anything while I am there but I hope to get some hands-on experience with the animals!
The negotiating thing totally worked for me I bought a 300$ female lavender corn snake and got her for 200$ instead. Don’t really know much about snake prices but she was gorgeous
Ok I have a question... say I live far away from the repetición I’m going to, and I can’t bring it on the plane, do the company’s ship the reptiles to your house?
Wow thanks! Here where I live, there are rarely any reptile expos, but this 19th there’s one and I’m hyped to go! This is a lot of useful information, keep up the amazing job!! :)
After I get all the supplies for my ball python I wanted to go to an expo but I was wondering how much I should save up if I'm trying to hunt out a banana ball python? I know big websites usually overpriced so I was wondering if they did at expos as well or just how much they would go for in general at the expo
You talked about handling every animal you purchase. I would agree with that with one note. Do not go around just handling every animal you see, even if you are hand sanitized. Make sure you really are interested in purchasing it before you ask to hold. Cross contamination is a real problem. Breeders do not want their babies dying from some infection from another animal you handled. Keep in mind that it is a business and peoples livelihood is on the line. Besides that the breeders take a lot of time caring for them and do not want to see any animal especially one of theirs dying due to a laps in judgement.
Our next local expo is still about 4 months away, so I went and found their vendor list from last year and found a local breeder to get my baby from a little earlier 😊
The way to get the best prices on supplies such as glass habitats is to go towards the end of the day on the last day of the show. This is when sellers are making the steepest price cuts because they don't want to load up all the glass. As long as the offer still permits them to make a little money, they will often agree if you are buying late on the last day. Most of the time you will be able to negotiate prices of live animals but the price you offer has to be reasonable! Asking for 50% off is insane! But 15-20% is some times agreed to. It really also depends on the person! Some of the women get super offended when you make offers. Acting as though you just slapped them across their faces with your glove and challenged them to a duel lol
My herpetological clock is ticking, It's time for me to go to another expo. Cause I'm dyiiiing to get a noodle and hang out with my reptile friends, but it's still freaking 1 month away. 😤 *GAAAAAHHHHHHHHH I CAN'T WAIT ANYMOREEEE*
And it's alright, I'm planning on going there and getting an adult female ball python, I've got the tank ready, I have a good idea of research, all I need now is the Danger noodle and a 10 pack of rats because dang they're cheap at repticon.
What plants would you recommend for a boiactive ball python tank that grows pretty large (to provide more hiding areas for the snake) but can withstand the snake laying on top of it or slithering over it. I have a pothos and plan to use it in the tanks but i don't want to be limited to just that one type.
Going to my first expo in a week, supposedly it's going to be stupid busy because it's tax refund season! Hoping to get a baby blue tongue skink. :) Thank you so much for the tips!
Xenomorph Queen Just normal snake stuff. Make sure you quarantine. I find not feeding the first week helps snakes feed so they can adjust before getting a mouse in their face. Double check temps before you get the snake. Don’t handle for the first week-3 weeks (that’s personal opinion some people do 24hours to a month of not handling)
I had no idea you were in North Carolina too! I'm glad you made this video, because i. Planning on going to the pet expo in the state fair grounds this year to get My first snake!
I'm going to a expo soon and am considering getting a corn snake. This has helped very much, and might update this soon. If I have the ok from my parents I will definitely be asking questions and will update you on the possible noodle.
Same! I may be going this weekend! Im most scared on not finding what im looking for a high prices and impulse buying on what im not looking for however i did research
What would you do in the case of an animal you purchased does have mites? I have wild caught scorpions, jumping spiders and 5 types of mantids. I have not encountered anything like this. I do know that there are beneficial mites on scarab beetles, etc. But theres also parasitic mites. I do know you can fight the parasitic mites with the good mites. Lol but who has rhino beetles or scarab beetles on hand. Is there an easier way? :)
Can I bring a bag? Like one of those cloth ones that some people use at grocery stores. I want to bring one so I don't have to hold a bunch of stuff for 5 hours or have to go back and fourth between the car but I'm scared someone's going to think I'm trying to steal by putting things in the bag while no ones looking.
You can ask people to hold items for you if you pay in advanced. Like, when I walk in, I go ahead and buy all the rodents I need and have them hold it under my name, then, if I see an animal I know I want to pick up, go ahead and pay under my name, then go back and pick everything up when you're walking out. But I'm sure you could just bring a bag, too bad they don't give you shopping carts lol
i got a white’s tree frog a couple months ago from repticon, but it was sick because the breeder lied about it being captive bred :/ he’s healthy now, so i’m considered either getting another one in a couple weeks at repticon again (different breeder obviously) or a pixie frog. i cant decide
I love animals like most people here probably...so I found the reptile expo exhausting...it was fun at first. I was only there a couple hours but I totally ran out of energy...I did get to get my hognose boy who I love very much though.😊
I'm looking into buying a reptile for some variety. I have never owned one before but I have a little experience with handling them. I'm looking for a little advice for first time reptiles. I love bearded dragons but the spikes worry me because I have very sensitive skin. I was hoping some experienced owners could give me some tips on what to do?
Before you go, here's a video on how to pick out the perfect reptile for you! ruclips.net/video/JcVYR05Tpls/видео.html

I second that. Moreso kids not under control. Babies can scream, they can't help it.

As someone who's owned leopard geckos for years I'm super excited to take my mate out to a reptile show to get him his first geckos/ reptiles.
Hi goherping. Could you make a video about baby corn snake care? I'm getting one next week and I can't find any info on them! 😊
Sahel thanks for the advice 😃
IceRiver1020 same over here but I want a pypon and when ever I ask how are they are creepy they say they just are
Bonus tip thing:
+when handling the reptile, check for mites and ticks too.
If its a black reptile like a mexican black kingsnake, run your hand across the body and check if theres black spots on ur hand, which are the mites (doesnt have to be all black).
Got this from Tyler Rugge
I’m going to my first repticon with some friends next weekend, do you have to be of a certain age to purchase an animal?
Going to my first Repticon next weekend. Thanks for this vid!
This is a lot of really useful info for newbies! Great job!
I'm going to my first reptile con next month and don't really know what to expect, so this helped a lot!
Maybe going to Repticon ATL tommorow! Probably getting a ball python or maybe Mexican black king
He never fails to help me with problems with snakes
There is one in Tuscon, AZ on October 8, 2017 and I am only a couple hours away from the expo.
I had done 3 months of research on axolotls before buying it at an expo and the breeder also went over the basic care even tho i told him i did research and what he said went along with what ive looked up
I'm actually going to an expo near me in a few weeks to get a ball python. So excited! This video is perfectly timed.
Unfortunately repticon doesn't come to my area often.
Rip same. Repticon doesn't stop by massachusetts
Evan G were u from
Julian i north Florida
Pan'sLostGirl I hope everything was alright for you with Harvey. What about my profile pic? Lol
Ones coming to my town on november 11
I showed my moms lot of your videos and she let me buy my first ball python. I saved up $700 to pay for my banana male and all of his stuff :D you should make a video on redecorating one of your animals tanks, lots of people enjoy watching those.
Can’t wait to see you @ Repticon this June ☺️💕
Are snake mites really hard to get rid of? And are reptile parasites computable to mammals like the cats?
Thank you for these videos I might be getting a Kenyan Sand Boa in a few months
I've seen your Kenyan Sand Boa video and I've done so much research so now I just have to wait
Are you okay? You look pretty tired and it’s late (tank lights are off)
Jewish Lucio Main me
Ad Victoriam! Same
He looks like a normal young fellow to me. In any case, he is die hard for his fans and subscribers, so good looking out for him.
He’s talked about how he doesn’t get enough sleep
He never has enough sleep
Advice** I'm a tard
I’m going to repticon in June I’m so excited thx for the tips
Perfect timing lol. Thanks for the tips Alex!!!
How convenient that the first video I clicked happened to be talking about the exact NC expo I was thinking of
Our next local expo is still about 4 months away, so I went and found their vendor list from last year and found a local breeder to get my baby from a little earlier 😊
*GAAAAAHHHHHHHHH I CAN'T WAIT ANYMOREEEE*
Thank you so much for the tips!
Super helpful since I’m going to a repticon on Sunday
Can you do more videos about Kenyan Sand Boas?
I did a full setup and care video but I'd love to do more if you have any questions on them :)
GoHerping I'm getting one sometime this month and I have its enclosure ready but do you have any extra tips when I get my KSB?
Xenomorph Queen
Just normal snake stuff. Make sure you quarantine.
I find not feeding the first week helps snakes feed so they can adjust before getting a mouse in their face.
Double check temps before you get the snake.
Don’t handle for the first week-3 weeks (that’s personal opinion some people do 24hours to a month of not handling)
What shelving do you use?
Great job plus lots of great information . Thank you
Awesome video! Just went to the BCRC (BC reptile club) expo earlier today!
I got my first snake today from repticon and your videos are super helpful!!
I went to Reptiday Tallahassee 3 years ago I got my male hypo Leopard Gecko for $50 and Nyra my Ball Python for only $10
I had no idea you were in North Carolina too!
Nice to see someone else in North Carolina!
GoHerping, thank you!
Had no clue you were in NC! Will you be at Repticon in Charlotte on the 25th and 26th of August?
I almost always go to the Raleigh, NC Repticons, but Charlotte's a few hours from me. Maybe I'll make it over to that one some day though!
I was looking to get a Spider Ball Morph. You know any decent breeders and prices that may be at the Charlotte convention?
i got a white’s tree frog a couple months ago from repticon, but it was sick because the breeder lied about it being captive bred :/ he’s healthy now, so i’m considered either getting another one in a couple weeks at repticon again (different breeder obviously) or a pixie frog. i cant decide
I am planing on getting a beardie. To help with mites, can I soak my animal and use a scrub brush? Thank you :)
I love animals like most people here probably...so I found the reptile expo exhausting...it was fun at first. I was only there a couple hours but I totally ran out of energy...I did get to get my hognose boy who I love very much though.😊
Do you have to buy tickets online or do you pay at the door or is it free
I really enjoy your videos. I'm going to Houston Repticon next month to get a corn snake.
This is actually a good topic to cover that seems over looked. Thanks for making this video & sharing the helpful tips 😁
What do you feed your blue tongue
THANK YOU!!! Im going to the repticon in orlando this december!
I never like to get my animals from pet stores and I got my sand boa from repticon too!
