    I live in Australia and a few months ago my brother saved a young one who was missing half a tail and her arm and leg on one side, she was almost dead once he found her but he brought her over and me and my mum nursed her back to health! We got her a nice big tank and just recently made her a much bigger one and she loves it :) we don't know her definete gender we are just going off size and body features for now, but yeah owning a blue tongue that's missing a few legs is pretty crazy
    (quick edit: my mum has studied veterinary nursing and zoology so nursing animals back to health is gonna be her job in a few years)

      I have one in my yard, he is living in my garden shed and I am here to look at making him a more suitable house to live in my yard freely. We can't actually keep blue tongues in captivity with out a licence in Australia as well.

    • @Soapossum
      @Soapossum 2 месяца назад

      Springtails and isopods are very important to keep the soil from getting moldy. You can definitely add the soil without any bugs but you would have to regularly change the soil out to avoid mold. You can't have a bioactive setup without a clean-up crew (bugs).

    Just to throw this out there but that's a merauke blue tongue skink from west new guinea. He looks just like my merauke I've had for 12 years. Key notes, how long he is. Maraukes are the longest of the species. Also his tongue is very pink compared to others. They also require the most humidity out of all the species. 60 to 70 percent and up to 80 to make sure they get good sheds. Looking forward to seeing this little 3 leggy do well.

    I'm curious, which t5 bulb did you use for the plants? I'm setting up a 4x2x2 for my bearded dragon and was planning to install two arcadia Dragon D3+ t5 14% (one 34" and one 22"). But the arcadia website says that the bulbs produce 8000K and I'm worried that may be too much for even desert plants. What do you recommend?

    • @theprelovedpixie1255
      @theprelovedpixie1255 3 года назад +1

      2 14% t5 is way too much uv especially if mounted inside the enclosure. I would only ever use a 14% if my enclosure was at least 3ft high. One 12% is recommended in a 4x2x2 but if you want to create some really nice height with branches etc then the 6% forest arcadia t5 is an excellent unit. Q distance of around 23cm with the 6% between the animal and the lamp gives a uvi of around 5.2 which is perfect for beardies. The arcadia jungle dawn is great for plants.

    Wow didn't know there are wild BTL in Texas. I live in Aus and by law, you can't have a wild-caught one. See I have a bit of a problem. We have a few of them sharing our backyard and around this time of year we get babies and there our cat comes in, he is a hunter, and usually, we manage to save the majority of them as he likes to bring his prey home usually unharmed to show off but last year we missed the moment and there was a row of 8 dead little bodies..... I called the authorities after that and asked how would I go about getting a license for the babies and giving them to people that would love to have them as a pet as I know that here it's compulsory to have a lizard license. they told me that I can't even nurse injured ones and that it's the way of nature and I should leave them to die or take them to the vet, that being Xmas none are open, so I am illegally nursing 3 atm, other 2 were unharmed, and I took them to the local park as I do every year and 1 is dead, hopefully, it is it. But the laws are stupid, why can't you take ones that going to be dead anyway as pets is beyond me

    • @Amber-w8c5q
      @Amber-w8c5q 11 месяцев назад +1

      Hi LillPoss, I know you posted this a while ago, but you can call WIRES for all injured wildlife, the volunteers have training and the licenses to hold and care for wildlife. You could also join your local WIRES branch and volunteer to care for reptiles once you have done the training. There may be other wildlife rescue organisations in your area, but WIRES is the most common one. You can get a cat bib for your cat they have really good success preventing cats from hunting and some Council's provide them for free. You can't rehome wild lizards, they either have to be rehabilitated and released, approved for a licensed facility as an education animal or put to sleep. This is to stop the illegal trade of wild animals as pets, they can't have exceptions as people would say "oh I found this, it was going to die and I nursed it back" even for healthy animals so they can sell them.
