Local is good as well man you make hella money. I’d say Foodservice is the way to go. Do it two years stack ur money then get into either LTL or fuel hauling home every day 6 figures easy.
What’s the process of getting endorsements for fuel hauling if any. I’m readying myself to take the CDL A written exam in a week. Just got my DOT physical certification. I’m doing all the research I can so any info will help!
@@HabituaILineStepper OD starts at 30 last I checked and capped at 35 for now I believe I was going to join that company but became an owner operator instead but OD is by far the best LTL in my opinion
I was in trucking for 13 years, 01-14, it was all company driving and was good. LTL and Linehaul for a regional carrier. I was burning company fuel, company paid hotel rooms and home every weekend and twice during the week. I suggest getting your feet wet with a company to learn the ins and outs before jumping in to the commitment of an OO.
That’s what I want to do.. regional for 4 years til my kid graduates high school, get the experience then hopefully do OTR with Walmart. Want to get out of debt, buy a house and save so I can retire and not have to worry
It's completely worth it. After 15 years I finally made it to walmart and make well over $100k. Strive to be the best at your craft (Trucking), and it can pay great dividends. Know what you're getting into, before you decide if it worth it for your personality.
I just got my class A permit and starting this week behind the wheel, I’m a union journeyman formsetter concrete finisher, and my plan is to get this license to enhance my skills and hopefully land a city job which they really desire a person who has a cdl, I will roughly pay 6,000 for the “certified “school, but I see it as a investment not a debt, I would say if your just relying on being a driver is tough for the first year or two.
Very good, 6k is nothing compared to how much work you're willing to put in. Also, know that along the way lot's of things will happen, accidents, slowdown, ppl cutting you off, road closures, detours, shipper, and receiver delays. MOST importantly above all is safetly, always check your truck for any defects. That will prolong your career and land you better and much easier jobs down the road. Best of luck too you, I hope you succeed.
I'm extremely interested in starting trucking. It's funny my plan sounds just like what you said. Use my money to make more money however that may be. Being an owner operatory is the obvious one but buying property investing in stocks etc are all other options. An even if a recession is coming I'm confident I could still find work. No matter how bad things get it'll end eventually. I will say my real concern with trucking is automation. While I don't think trucks won't be automated anytime soon it's gonna happen eventually.
Im home everyday and work less than 50 hours a week. Made a 106k last year. Not to mention i dont even travel 20 miles to the rail yard and back. Ill stick where I am
I had a experienced truck driver tell me the other day that if I can bring home 1200 every week and be in my bed every night then I should forget about trucking
And that trucker is correct. I’d go as far as saying if you can bring home $900-$1000 a week, don’t get into trucking. This coming from a 10 year driver
I’ve crunched the numbers on it many times over. In todays economy, experienced OTR truckers who spend weeks on the road should be making $200k-$300k in order to justify it. On average, they make maybe $90k-$110k. Experienced local home every night drivers by todays standards should be making $105k-$150k. On average, they make between $65k-$85k. If you can make between $60k-$70k in a different profession starting out, you shouldn’t even think about trucking.
I'll be 35 in 7 days (May 10th) and I had to file chapter 13 bankruptcy last year. While it saved me from the alternative scenarios on what was going to happen, it's been garnishing my wages every week and I make almost $20 an hour at my job and that still isn't quite enough. I've had to take out 401k loans and everything else just to get rent paid. I've been back and forth about getting into trucking but at this point it doesn't seem like I have much choice because if I quit my job there is anything else around here that will pay what I make now. So trucking seems like the best choice for me. Also, I'm single with no kids so there is that.
Hello! Thank you very much for the great video. How's it going are are you still trucking? I'm in Los Angeles I want to get into trucking but there are so many videos talking about how bad the trucking industry is right now and how thousands and thousands of truck drivers lost their jobs. Are those mainly owner operators or is it everyone? They said something about regulations I don't know what they're talking about. I'm scared to spend the money for school and go for it and leave my other occupation. Do you think it's worth it right now??
I have my CDL A. I need my endorsements but I have zero experience other than driving a dump truck for a month. I’m interested in team driving but I’m unsure about which division. Such as tanker, reefer, van, or flatbed. That said, my family has an issue about trucking. That it’s a dangerous job. That I’ll fail and so forth. Any tips you can offer will be appreciated. Thank you!
My family said the same thing that it was dangerous, and that I was going to fail. Well fast forward 2 years of verifiable experience, consistent work year round. I'm proud to say that I hold my own weight and that I can do so much more than I thought. You won't know until you try, listlen to your gut not the opinion of others. Hard work, long hours, patience, and being safety aware with your equipment will get you far in this industry.

I could be getting paid for it. So I think trucking would be good for me. Is OTR better for beginners? How much can I expect to make 1st year?
If you know what comes with being a trucker and understand that it's a lifestyle not a job, then yes. I do regret the time I spent in college instead of getting into trucking sooner tbh
College education is useless if you're not going into Nursing or becoming a Doctor. You will never find a job that will compensate for your Degree and you always have to worry about layoffs. I got my Masters at 24 years old and still couldn't find a proper job so I went into Trucking. Fast forward 12 years later.. I'm set for life in my mid 30s. @@thebetunit so would you recommend finishing college? I myself am an OTR truck driver and I am 22 years old and I left school to do trucking.
