    It's the best use for any scrap-worthy car, do something fun with it where you just don't care if it breaks. Allows for much fun without being afraid you might ding it up a little.
    So I suggest you keep it and use it for more off-road rides, and you ofc have to keep recording them for us to see!

    These jeep Cherokee's are so underrated and so capable off road for a standard vehicle ,after all jeep 4x4 in general was used in the war because of how good they are ,a suspension lift kit with front and rear diff lockers and this would be pretty much unstoppable , great video mate 👊👌

    Really enjoyed this Matt, I was in the army for 12 years and we literally got paid to go off roading in 90/110 Defenders on basic/advance driving courses and later on in tanks. Imagine a knife edge in a tank when it’s literally rocking on the top and you have to commit and pivot over in to a sharp incline.

    A really enjoyable view and I totally understand why you would want to do it again. That motor was a bargain for what it just took you through and that is the beauty of cars to me, the memories of what they do for you and how they make you feel. I had a mark two Escort that was a horrible car but changing the half motor, getting the head skimmed and reseating the valves all because of the water pump will never leave my mind I smile when I think about it now and really miss my mate that led me through the whole thing.

    Fair play to the Jeep; despite being a rusted-out “soccer-mum” SUV, it walked the walk as well as all the other cars there. There’s something nice about giving a car that was in such a sorry state a last moment to shine.
    It looks like the star of the day was that Shogun, it just seemed to make pretty short work of every challenge thrown at it. I also forget how good looking the Shogun Sport is, it’s so well proportioned and quite stylish in a no-nonsense practical way.

    God fun. Bit too quick in places, remember as slow as possible, as fast as necessary. Just feel for what the wheels are doing. Power isn't the issue, it's all about grip and a bit of momentum when you need it

    • @seany8787
      @seany8787 8 месяцев назад

      This, x200. Doesnt help when someone with absolutely zero idea in the passenger seat encourages you to ‘gun it flat out’
      Momentum is different to speed. You need to balance grip vs momentum. A lot of it looked relatively grippy so less momentum is needed, but if you are gunning it so that the wheels are spinning you lose what grip you could have had

      In those very muddy & slippery conditions, any vehicle will struggle for traction, without a set of decent Mud Terrain tyres.
      And
      The person driving the Defender, could be a first time off road driver, who did not have the vehicle in appropriate Terrain mode / Diff Lock not on etc ?

  • @marksmith762
    @marksmith762 8 месяцев назад

    That’s brilliant. I’m involved with gravel PCA events at Wern Ddu Quarry near Ruthin. Most of the cars are MOT fails but still ok mechanically. As long as they have brakes and an engine that’s running then it’s all that’s needed. No 4 wheel drives though. But the likes of where you took the Jeep are ideal and the same thing where the car can be trailered in which rules out needing to be MOT compliant but obviously needs to be capable of coping with the terrain. Keep the Jeep and have more fun and improve your driving skills. Driving off road needs a totally different mind set to normal driving on tarmac. Doing that really teaches you how capable a 4 wheel drive really is.

    Great video Matt, I loved watching you in the Jeep as I had one of these brand new way back!, think I got it brand new in 2001. It was the much less common 3.7L V6 petrol which had plenty of power. I loved the car, the only obvious downside being mpg. At the time, I was torn between the Disco 2 or this Jeep and the Jeep won out because you got loads more goodies for the same money ! I took it off road (despite being new) and it absolutely is a serious off roader (I had the optional extra underbody protection fitted at new) - also it had 3.5 ton towing capacity which is handy.
    Watching you round Dalton was especially interesting for me as I'm booked into one of their days next year on 3rd Feb. I'm taking my 2016 Shogun which has a 2 inch suspension lift, BFGoodrich tyres and extra underbody protection plates. Based on your video, I can't wait !
    Spend a bit more on your Jeep and sort the rust, it's a classic !
    Here's my Shogun last year when I invited Simon from PowerFull UK to join me offroading in Northumberland

As someone who has been in a car accident on black ice and rolled twice into a ditch I can understand your hesitation in driving off road. Unfortunately I don’t drive but I have always thought these off road days were more about balls than brains. It goes to show that at the end of the day id rather you drive me round than some **** who thinks they know it all then messes it up to show that driving skill is learnt not taught.

    I know you have a Fiat 500X in stock..I had the 4x4 2ltdi so if you ever get a low mileage automatic one, I'll do a road trip to have a look. I bought one of those from new and I thought it was a brilliant car..although not very popular in the UK strangely. I lived in the Pyrenees at the time and used it as a bounce on my Mustang (don't judge)..but if you get one, I'm your man (Not red)..I',m only saying this because I believe the Cherokke of this genre is basically similar

    I've had 3 Jeep cherokees of that kind of age. All were excellent of road. But when you look at their heritage they should be.

    nice drive. a little tippy toed, should be more agressive. I did lots of that in barbados years ago with a suzuki 1000 convertible and enjoyed it. I'm still enjoying your buy and sell videos, so keep them coming!
