Talking about the weather at the beginning on a blog is like the beginning of a book where they are setting up the scene. It is comforting, and brings the watcher into your world.

How about keeping a feeder full in the coop? Some of these homesteaders are not feeding their birds enough. Ben was one of them that touted that he feeds them only from the compost pile. It was predictable what he is going through now.

Describing the weather sets the scene. We can see and hear your environment, but we can’t feel it, smell it, or taste it. (Oh how I wish I could smell and taste Meg’s cooking! I did get her cookbook, but haven’t tried any of the recipes yet!) It’s fun to compare Al’s reaction to cold temperatures with Ben’s and Jason’s! I’m from Michigan, so North Carolina weather seems mild to me! So, yeah, don’t worry that we’ll be bored when you talk about the weather!

Thanks for another podcast y'all. Love hearing how your week went although I have also watched the days you post. I also enjoy hearing what you have planned for the coming year, or down the road in future years. I think the strangest thing about this year though is seeing Al's property with so little snow. Every year I have watched him plow almost daily in the winter to keep his driveway and road cleared. This year he bought a new bigger, better blade and has hardly used it. It is crazy. Y'all stay warm & dry and have a Blessed week.

Al mentions if you sat down and thought about how much food is required per person per day. He also mentions like how much food your town would need how much your neighborhood and then recognizes of course the fact like wow that's a lot of food. The irony in all of this is that a lot of people complain about our food systems and our broken systems but the reality is without those messed up systems people wouldn't be getting fed and that's kind of like the completion of the cycle . What solutions would you have and you know looking at reality that's why those food systems are in place just so people can eat not necessarily in the most helpful way but because they are necessary for people survival. It will be great to see the long-term benefit of eating totally healthy the way you guys do. Now the question is will enough food be able to be produced not only Nationwide but worldwide so that everybody could benefit from healthy food and how do we get these people on track to just do it in your own backyard if you have to.

To ID a determined egg eater, leave an egg out on the floor of the coop then hide and watch. Some birds will investigate maybe peck once or twice then go on about their business but a really determined egg eater will keep at it until it gets the shell broken open so it can eat it.

Hi guys! Is just recently binge listened to all the episode the last past 7 days. I don't know which episode was is when Ben mentioned the Food Inc documentary, but oh my gosh! I just wathed it. The imagery was shocking even though I knew about it for a while. Listening to the intricacies and the webbing of the food system... is just plain evil.
I'm from Europe, and now I try to see the conventional food production by working in each section starting with dairy cows in Denmark. Stock piling the animals while keeping them somewhat healthy to stay in production and profitable is a real strougle for farmers here too. Harsh to see from both perspective.
Keep up the good talk guys! I really enjoy the in depth little infos you give with the episodes!

Notepads.... I work for a commercial printer for my day job, so I am always bringing notepads home. I'm 61 and I find when I walk around the farm and I go from one thing to another and I say owe this needs done, owe I forgot call this person, this needs picked, this needs weeded. If I write it down, it will eventually get done, if I don't, when I get to the house, I say what did I need to do???🤔 I also leave a list for my employees in the summer, when they get home before I do. I think it's good in the morning to just walk around and take inventory of what needs to be done. Out of sight out of mind....
