      I totally agree ! I am old and don’t like when some of the homesteaders say how they will teach us how to cook or whatever. I have also been preserving all my life so I don’t need someone to teach me .I do enjoy watching the homesteaders that just do their lives like our Meg and Ben.

The children are so great at everything they do, they sure get that off their parents love and guidance. Even Buggie she’s around helping out and absorbing information by osmosis! Love how you end with dinner and all pray! Always enjoy the Hollars

    Anytime you see a patch of daffodils or irises, that means there was an old homestead there at one time. Back when the settlers came they brought these bulbs and rhizomes with them from their homeland. They would plant a few and they would multiply year after year. Some of the old homes are no longer there but the flowers remain. Some of the homes still stand. As you take a drive keep a lookout for daffodils. That means someone lived there long ago. Daffodils are not native to the U S. ..very impressed with you two and your amount of knowledge!

    To keep your twine from possible contamination, we put ours inside of a container with a lid with a hole that we made in the top and feed the twine through the hole. Close the top and pull out what you need.
    You will have clean, dry, untouched twine ready for use.
    If you go a while between uses, just pull out the exposed twine, cut of as much as you left hanging out and you are ready to truss!
    ♥️

    • @cathyblasco4497
      @cathyblasco4497 5 месяцев назад +1

      You can do that with an old teapot. Just feed the twine through the spout.

    My other farm channel (a longhorn cattle rancher; very fascinating yet different from yours) just spent a fortune for 6 tons of fertilizer which he used in a full day of driving his truck pulling a fertilizer buggy slowly slowly all over his pastures. He did check the weather forecast which predicted the right amount of rain to melt the fertilizer into all his acres of grass, but that is always hit or miss. He got the hit as your rain is also his rain located in Texas and he is breathing a satisfied sigh of relief. He also put lime on some of his pastures that were far too acid for good grass. The lime was also very expensive and needed the rain to melt into his building up of new selective deforested acidic pastures (from decades of pine needles) pastures. More signs of relief. I am located in Seattle, Washington so rain is just a given at this time of year, but I understand that that is not the case in other states. Glad he got his pasture rain and you got your indoor chore rain.

    March 2021 took my 85 year old dad for a road trip through Oregon. East of Eugene is a Valley known for the covered bridges. The area was crawling with logging crews/trucks clearing out after those big fires. There were swaths where fire left nothing standing. Some places a single house was missed. But up against the river, you couldn’t really pick out where the foundation’s were… except the daffodils. They were the Phoenix story. Workers had a grill and chairs set up for lunch breaks here and there, but other than that, Daffodils were the only sign of life for miles.

    I agree with Mr. Jerry, Baby Holler has moved on down. Hopefully Meg can get some rest before the big day. Love that you are making your own dried meats. Glad folks are keeping these arts alive as they are quite tasty. Congrats on your efforts, well done!

    Millie the cat is obviously a good mouser and earns her keep. Your small goods (deli meats) look amazing!

    I just learned SO much in a 30-minute video. I'm dying to raise and process my own pig, but I don't live in an area where it's allowed. I will continue to dream and live vicariously through you guys.
    Also, Buggy in a beanie is brain breaking levels of cute!

    I do garlic green onion salt cure, smoke them, cook the bacon all at once and then can it up. Saves space and I have lots of bacon grease for cooking. Yum
