- The Brother Scan and Cut machines are not super intuitive, and the printed instructions are terrible. After several hours of trial and error, we finally figured out how to Scan and Cut with a Brother ScanNCut, using a complex, non-outlined image or stamp, to create a vinyl decal. Here's a step-by-step tutorial on how you can scan virtually any image with any Brother ScanNCut, crop it, resize it, group it, and then cut it out on vinyl to place it on a cup, window, t-shirt, wall, or anywhere you can imagine.

Love your video so helpful, short and sweet.
Thank you. Happy to hear when a video helps someone. 🙂
Thank you for being so concise.
You're welcome.
Excellent video. Waiting for more.
Thank you Becky! We're in the she-shed this weekend with some all new Brother videos, we promise!
Thank you for the step by step instructions, I just got mine so it is really helpful.
That is amazing! You could probably scan something with a separate scanner and import the image, but it's really convenient to have all this tied to one device and simplified process. It really opens up a lot of design potential! Can you do a video that shows cutting out an existing sticker or magnet please? Thank you!
Absolutely! It's already on the short list. Should be ready sometime this week. Thanks for watching!
I'm still trying to decide, but you made this look doable for me! thanks for the video!
You can do it, Rita!
Our own Chuck Fresh wrote the background music on this video! Check out *Chuck Fresh Chill*
Rockstar!! Love his chill music. Hope he's working on more.
OMG I just donated my Cricut to Goodwill and am ordering this TODAY! Thank you!!!
Good for you!
Ugh I am so glad I watched this. I put the blasted transfer tape of the vinyl and wondered why it didn’t pull it up😂
It happens and we learn from things like that....and then we do it again. I speak from experience. 😂😅😂😅
Thank you, this video really helps with the scanning features. You covered other facets as well.
Glad it was helpful!
Good Job. 👍🏻 Thanks for the detailed video
This machine still blows my mind!
I’m late to your party but really appreciate your step by step instructions so very much. I asked for a vinyl cutter for my Brotherscanncut SDx125e so maybe Santa will be kind and let me have it as I don’t need the feed roller or anything special. Thanks for sharing!
You're welcome and thanks for watching.
Wonderfully practical information!!!
Thank you. 🙂
Thank you for this video! I was so frustrated starting out, and you made it so easy to follow along. The instructions do suck!
Happy it helped. 🙂
From personal experience you should drop the number of colors to 2 if you're only working with two colors. This will help the machine create a better detection of only the areas you want it to trace. You can buy premium tracing option with more features and processing power. But since you had the graphic to print it there really was no need to scan it in again. The trace option does allow you to directly import the image straight off your PC, a USB drive, and from the meager 1.5 MBs of storage on the Scan 'N Cut.
Premium add-ons for vinyl from the vinyl kit allows you to add a weeding box plus tiling in Art board mode. The weed box applies a border to the design area that lets you waste a lot less material when it comes to weeding out the unwanted bits. The kit also gets you the dedicated Vinyl Auto Blade. Tiling mode for the Art Board lets you overcome the 12x24 inch mat size and the 9x70 inch size of the vinyl roll feeder 2. With it you can tile your creations to be spread out across a much larger space using either 12x12, 12x24, and I believe multiples of 9x70 inches. So when looking to create wall mural sized projects now you're covered.
Super helpful. Thanks
Nicely done! May I ask how much are they running in price these days for a Scan N Cut DX125? I have the previous model wondering what the upgrades in features and cost would be???
They're still a little pricey at $400. But we're finding the scanning function to be well worth it! Not sure what the previous version had. This is our first experience with Brother. We've had a Cricut for 3+ years. Thanks for watching!
@@FamilyUnit I have had a Cricut expressions, now have the maker and the joy. I have the Scan N Cut 2 love it. It is very easy to use quick for so may thing. Especially if you wanna trace your die that goes through a die machine like a big kick and make a background die for say a word or a die that you already have it is awesome.
Do you have a video on Scan’n’cut showing how to cut stamped images without the white border around the image, etc?
We don’t but will add it to the list.
Please tell me where you found that specific “Jeep Wave” hand? I’ve looked for it but nothing comes up that looks just like yours. TIA
We made it. 😊
@@FamilyUnit Would you mind walking me through a brief synopsis of HOW you made it? Ie…what program, what shapes, etc. I can do the letters easily but the shape of the hand is what has me stumped. TIA

My mat and feeder already giving me problems 🙃
Took me a few times to work through that type of stuff.
Hi, did you use the brother vinyl blade? I believe the regular blade is a disaster at cutting vinyl.
We used the stock regular blade and it seemed to work pretty well with paper, stickers, and vinyl. Even today, it's still working well. We did have to adjust the cut pressure a bit, as we showed in the vid, but after we did that, it was perfect! We just bought the new ScanNCut DX SDX230Di for the fam - they love Disney. Hoping that machine works as well.
@@FamilyUnit thanks for your detailed response 🙏🏼
I've seen videos stating the vinyl blade is for finer more intricate cuts. But the regular Auto blade does the trick for most projects.
Hi can this machine cut or recognized transparent plastic pet film
Hmmmm not sure what pet film is. Check the vendor site for a list of materials.
Why wouldn’t you just Import the Images
If you have the file, you can import it in. If you don't or if you have a hand drawn image, scanning is a great option to get your machine to get the item for you.
What if it doesn’t trace all the lines
You can adjust the contrast and scan again, or manually adjust.
Seems a bit complicated. Why not just print out the image in the size you want, scan it into the machine, save it to the machine and then retrieve and cut it out?
Depends how many you need to cut. For a one-off, no saving necessary.
Get rid of background music...How annoying!
🙂
