Thank you. This does help. Just got my Scan n cut yesterday. From what I had seen online, I thought it used SVG files and didn't know I had to convert them. Thankfully that seems easy. (Previously with the Silhouette, I was having to use Inkscape to take SVGs and convert them to GSD, then open them in Silhouette Studio. All those extra steps, using a program that was basically designed for CAD work, not cutting. It was annoying.)
I'm happy to hear that this video helped. You may be interested in our training courses on how to master your ScanNCut. Here is the link www.alandaonline.com/
Thanks for the detailed and clear explanation! Also, thanks for showing how the svg files work - e.g. being able to resize individual parts, and also how to treat it as one whole lot. Excellent and helpful!
Thank u ,,, thank u,,, for making this clear i just got my design and cut and was frustrated thinking I can’t run this machine. I really needed to have this explained to me 💛
You always do a wonderful job explaining ,whether it quilting or even now these files for brother scan and cut. Thank you so much. You have a blessed day, Amanda
Just bought 2 of your instruction video's. Like this one, it's clear and, even for a foreigner from the Netherlands, understandebel. Got my machine some years now and was to afraid to use it. But now I'll try, by using your classes on video... The thing I have to find out now: how can I cut an embroidery design from my Brother embroidery machine on my scan 'n cut....A PES file to FCM file. I hope you've got (or make) a video of that too.... Thank you!!
Thank you KK. If you have previously purchased our Cutting Fabric with your ScanNCut there is a section on PES and FCM files. If you don't have that course, here is a link www.alandaonline.com/product/mastering-cutting-fabric/. This is for the older machine, if you have the new DX machine then this is the link to the DX fabric course www.alandaonline.com/product/scanncut-dx-cutting-fabric/
@@alandacraft Thanks! Have to save now.... but your courses are worth it. Here in the Netherlands, aint much people who use Embrilliance. I love this program!! Although it is in English, and not my foreign language, most of it I do understand. But its those little background information I struggle with.. I bought two other courses and hoped the info I needed was in that... but thanks for this information...
Oh this is such a wonderful tutorial...thank you thank you thank you! I would never have found the svg shop/library without you and this is more like what I wanted the scanncut for, not for frilly shapes! Now, all I have to do is try and work it out on an iPad...can’t justify buying a computer just for the scanncut when that was so pricey to begin with. I’ve subscribed and am working my way through your wonderful tutorials......everything crossed that one day you’ll do an iPad canvas tutorial!
I really like your demo very well taught. I have a scan and cut sdx which I bought to scan paper patterns to make embroidery files with the fcm. However I prefer my cricut for cutting fabric. Do you know of a way to convert .fcm files to an svg? And would the sizing stay consistent to the pattern?
Excellent, so glad we could help Rebecca. We have a load of free ScanNCut videos on this channel. You can see the full list here: ruclips.net/p/PLp1N6F-V-Q21qOFi-4p2bbjmBkJk_zJkI We also have premium online training at our training academy here: www.alandaonline.com/product-category/brother-scanncut/
Does the Canvas Workspace software have a version for Mac computers? My Scan n Cut is arriving today and being able to convert SVG files will definitely be something I’ll need to do.
Yes it does, Pam. We both use Mac's. Just in case you are interested we have a free training course available to help you get started. Here is the link www.alandaonline.com/product-category/brother-scanncut/
Hi , this is a great find 🤩 , a new subbie here . It is a super clear video and as I'm a complete new bee to SNC it's fantastic as I want to use mine primarily to cut stencils for my own personal art pieces. I signed up & downloaded as per your instructions, but for some reason no SVG file came over. I'm working on Windows 10. Can you help please 🤦♀️.... Also I have CanvasWorkspace online version for my SDX1200, how do I get the software version ? Thanks so much 😊
Thank you for the tutorial! I have referred to your videos several times since buying my SNC. Can an SVG be converted to a print & cut file or be used to just print (I.e. as a sentiment for a card)? Thank you again! Very helpful content😊
If you wanted to 'print and cut' then you would just open the SVG on your computer and then print it onto paper. Then you would scan that paper into the ScanNCut so that it hopefully recognizes it and then cuts around the image.
You can import them directly into the sdx, however, sometimes the svg files do need some work to clean them up, So we generally take them into canvas first.
thank you so much ,I have to look at it again this is a real prob for me. I can't get canvas somehow. I have to check the other video from you THANK YOU again!!!
How do I get the software version? I only have the online version, and I can't figure it out. Your video is very clear cut and understandable, but your software version is very different than mine. I also have DXF files that I have tried to work with and they are all too large. Do you know how to size them to make them work? Thanks!
You just need to go to the Brother Canvas homepage and there is a download link at the very top of that page. Here's the link to that page: canvasworkspace.brother.com/en
Hello, I hope you can help me I hope I make myself understood. What I would like to do is be able to print images in the images in PNG to my printer instead of doing sgv file cut. 5:32 How do I do that? Or does it only works with silhouette and Cricut machines. I trying to create a water slide for tumbler. If you could help me . I would totally appreciate it.
I don't think so. It's a format created by Brother so it is more of a project file. You could just take a screen print of what is on the screen. It's not ideal but it will give you something at least.
Cannot understand a word this squeaky voiced lady is saying sorry but cannot hear, plus seems like an advert for alandacraft NOT tutorial for taking files from internet to machine
This was super easy to follow and your voice is so calm. I’m going to be watching some of your other videos. Excellent video.
Awesome video, 2 years later, windows 8 made me laugh. Thank you. Watch more of your stuff!!
This has been one of the most useful videos I have ever watched TY TY TY!
Excellent, pleased to hear that Shelley :)

Awesome video. Can you follow up on how to get from computer to to machine and how will it look once cut? I have the SDX225.
Didn’t know about the transparency option to check the file. Thanks for the tip.
Thank you for this great tutorial. You explained everything so clearly.
Thank you Catherine 😊

If you search Google using the keywords 'convert fcm to svg' you will find a number of converters that should help.
Fantastic tutorial! This was so helpful- I got my first ever cut machine yesterday ( scanncut 1200) and I was quite confused on this topic.

I have the scn sdx and svg cutting files on an external hard drive. How do I go about cutting these files? Do I need to go through canvas? Thanks.
You can import them directly into the sdx, however, sometimes the svg files do need some work to clean them up, So we generally take them into canvas first.
thank you so much ,I have to look at it again this is a real prob for me. I can't get canvas somehow. I have to check the other video from you THANK YOU again!!!
I've got a CM550 ScanNCut. How and where do I download the Canvas software to export my files, so that I can cut them on the machine

Sería ideal si pusieras subtitulos en español, no hay muchos tuturiales para usar esta máquina y te seguiría más gente, pero así es muy complicado
We would love to be able to do that for you Eva, but neither of us speak or write Spanish.

You are most welcome Sandy. Happy to hear the tutorial helped.
very easy to understand, Thank you so much!
How can you transfer multiple color files?
I'm not sure what you mean by 'multiple color files'. Can you elaborate on that please?
Thank you for a very helpful video❤️
You are so welcome Sandra.
How do you make a svg file that is custom
If you want to create your own SVG files you would probably need to use something like Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape.
What am I missing? I thought SVG files were SNC files.
No Sage, SNC files are .fcm. But you can convert svg files to fcm files
Great!!!
My group and un group won’t work
Very helpful
Good to hear Margaret
You explain so fast
