Humans on the larger scale have always been "moderate", but that also means the "extreme" fringes become more pronounced and influential because the "moderate" are too content or too busy trying to survive to effectively curtail the extreme.

I mean, he wasn't an AI, but most people watching don't know that, I totally thought the replicants were supposed to be robots, it doesn't explain that they're artificially grown humans that were never babies or children. I guess maybe the director thought people wouldn't understand that concept, especially since "android" refers to a humanoid robot typically. I don't even remember it being specified that the replicants are organic in the book itself. The book refers to them as androids, not replicants, that term comes from the films only. Based on the title, considering the "electric" in Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, it would seem that Phillip K. Dick himself conceived of them as inorganic machines made to look and act human. But yeah...we've got AI systems that create beautiful art, and billions of people with machine minds, and no souls. It's not AI passing the Turing test and developing sentience that I'm worried about, as is the focus of that book, but rather mankind becoming less and less intelligent, noble, healthy and strong through dysgenic influences and poor lifestyles, as well as a vast top-down social engineering campaign led by the global elite to turn us into obedient, unthinking little serfs. When you look at ancient structures and art, you can see how important it was to our ancestors to create something beautiful that would last. Modern trendy thinking is just the opposite, entirely self-centered, self-righteous, and everything is done with only the short term in mind, and cutting building costs or money laundering in the fine art world take precedence over actual beauty. Everything looks cheap and planned to become obsolete almost immediately. Even the people seem to exude a sense of quantity over quality, like the number of souls has remained constant and gotten divided up so each NPC gets only a sliver of the soul that would have animated someone in the Bronze Age or whatever.
