    Small trivia: Vritra basically means a "Dragon" in Sanskrit. Indra, the chief of Devas in Hindu theology, slays the Asura who could transform into a Vrtra, Vritrasura to gain the name Vrtraghna or Vrtrahan. His ancient Iranian counterpart is called Verethragna.

    I made the mistake of trying both land and water, then i restarted and i figured its much easier to liberate my ally first, then get rid of purple quickly(who is a big pain in the ass on water), and after that you can snipe castles with cannon galleons, no landing on the main island needed.
    As you've said, its good that there are options, for those that like different approaches.

    about the question, which tower is better againist ships. The answer to that is actually not that straightforward. Generally, the bombard tower should do more raw dps no matter what, however it is both more expensive and easier to dodge so it depends. Other than that, it heavily depends on two factors: 1. the type of ship you are fighting and 2. whether your civilization gets heated shot. Galleys are very vulnerable to keeps and essentially melt when the keep also gets heated shot (29 per arrow against a galleon with all upgrades and they can shoot extra arrows). Fire Ships and Tirisadai, on the other hand, have high ship armor and as such take significantly less damage from keeps. Heated shot does a great job at mitigating this but if you ever were in a situation during the saracen campaigns where you had to defend against fast fire ships with castle age guard towers without heated shot, you know how bad this is ... 11
    On the other hand, bombard towers with heated shot straight-up oneshot everything that isn't a turtle ship or thirisadai and even they take almost 200 damage... but again, accuracy can be an issue if the ships move alot (for example to harass your villagers)
    In short: usually bombard towers but if you have heated shot and especially against the galley line, both will work.
    -now I want a t-west video where he talks 30 minutes about towers vs. ships 11-

  • @teddyhaines6613
    @teddyhaines6613 2 года назад +9

    I actually found this one easier than usual by the standards of this campaign, although crossing that southeast bridge you were fighting on around the 41 minute mark was interminable becuase of the unreal unit spam from Srivijaya. And for water I honestly didn't bother with Thrisadai because purple and blue had so many fast fires that I figured I'd need my own fires anyways to deal with them so might as well spam nothing else. I actually think that's the better approach considering what the enemy has.

    • @IschmarVI
      @IschmarVI 2 года назад +2

      I think, a combination of fires + ranged support (thirisadai get a bonus for being more pop efficient here) is best, because too many fire ships will start getting in each others way so having something with more range allows for more efficient dps. But yeah, throwing like 10 fires into your ship army really does wonders.

    I did this one by going full Siege Onagers, a few Trebs and Dravidian Elephant Archers up front.
    Once you hit a critical mass of Elephants Archers and SO you can steamroll Sumartra with some ease.
    Then you go take out the Tambralingas and the Srivijayan castle.
    Tbh once you take all of Sumatra you are pretty much home free. So focusesing all your efforts on the main island is the only thing worth doing tbh

    This was indeed an epic campaign, does it deserve S tier? Maybe, it has it's flaws, but again it tried to be consistent and even if in my opinion it should have done a few things differently it is still a great campaign to play

    • @Duke_of_Lorraine
      @Duke_of_Lorraine 2 года назад +6

      The 3rd and 5th missions were grandiose large-scale B&D with a lot of strategic choices, and the rest was solid enough (2 is only awfully grindy if you decide it to be). The narrative was well done, bonus points for linking with the Suryavarman campaign. A S-tier is likely indeed.

    With that new triggers to use flares to order where the navy should strike, it's surprising that other missions from this expansion used the older method of typing a command in the chat to choose which enemy your allies should focus on.

    well not really a fantasy ship. the design is from the borobudur ship, a series of reliefs on the borobudur temple in java, built by that exact same sailendra dynasty. this kind of boat design are only found in borobudur and nowhere else. so it was most likely to be austronesian in origin (with it having outriggers and tanja rigging and javanese being one of the austronesian peoples etc etc).
    so, it feels a bit weird to see borobudur ship is used as one of indian civs unique unit. given their lack of historical connection whatsoever. and then they make it fight against the sailendras, lol.

    • @ishaanmurarka9082

      Nope. The actual cholan and gujarat ships were unplayable. This is just the deep seated insecurity of accepting the truth that diluted everything that India created. That history that you consumed is just BS written after erasing actual facts during the brutal european invasion of india.

    There is a funny bug, I prepared a few trebs to take back the castle to the north east every time it was taken by the enemy. Too bad I trebbed it way too hard so it became mine and collapsed still counting as mine. What can I say, 200 IQ move as an enemy cannot take over a castle if there is no castle XD

    Overall I'd give this campaign like a B+ or A-. It's got a nice story and the levels are well designed with different challenges, but the execution feels a little rough. 1st level's raid doesn't really do anything, 2 has the no villager glitch right now, and in 5 the purple navy feels a little too oppressive. You can't take a hybrid approach for the last level, you need to go either full navy or full land. Still, it's a great effort and I really do like the 3rd and 4th scenarios.

    I dislike the start here. With fog of war, I had no idea where (and when?) to land. Had serveral starting attempts; everytime I pinged my watter-ally to the fleet in the north. Sometimes, they all go there and eazy clap, but sometimes a good bunch of them attacked the docks in the south, felt very random to me. I wish the designers would have marked (with a flag) two or three landing points with the hint, you can decide on advantage or disadvantage of each option.
    After that, it became kinda fun. it wasn't as complex as the previous missions, what a relief!! It is all about taking and holding towers and castles. A good hand for siege rewards massive here. Eco is available, but not that important. Prioritising land is stronger, but take care of water is good for you. it's the kind of scenario that gets easier and easier over time and by the point I did the last push I thought, something will come as a climax. Bit of a letdown, that it just.. ended, I dunno xD
    On one hand, I dislike the fact that it ends on a non-challenging way imo. BUT as I think about it, the campaignw as hard, you always had these complex (often annyoing for me) mechanics to deal wwith, because you know.. you build an empire, that SHOULD be messy I guess.. So maybe ypou can see this one as a payoff. Your army gets superior very fast except on water, you take the frotresses of the enemy on by one und in the end, you take the economy and fortresses to finish him off, with the help of the allys you made in previous scenarios. So, kinda fitting.
    So in short, very weird and irritating start (again), but played out in a very fun way for me. As I sayed numerous times in the comments allready, Rajandra was not so much for me. The last scenario saved it from my personal C-tier to an average-good campaign B-tier.
