So what if she lives in a gated community and drives a Tesla. They could have those things to if they actually did something to Betty themselves. Most of them say they are happy living the way they are. But why SHOULD the rest of the community put up with them. It sounds by the way they have taken over the streets the only way to be safe is in a gated community. How bloody unfair us the t!!!???

considering many shelters are run by religious organizations that force them to attend religious services, I wouldnt go either. Also many homeless shelters are absolutely terrible places to go, apparently salvation army ones are the worst. They are not the sanctuaries people make them out to be because they have little to no oversight and can do whatever they want to the people trying to find shelter/

Just give them housing. What a simple solution. How about they go to shelters or jail. If you GIVE them housing you just make the situation worse. The housing gets destroyed, they still don't get essentials of food, healthcare, etc. It also doesn't address mental illness, drug addition, criminality, sanitation, and a host of other issues associated with homeless people other than the fact that they don't live in homes. The only humane way to deal with "homeless" people is supervised shelters or jail. Interestingly enough, many homeless refuse to go to shelters or even be put into housing because they want live in their own way, but we all end up paying for it.

They are going where they are allowed to panhandle, do meth/heroin, drink themselves insensate, get free food and clothing, can camp beachside if they please, and no one can do a damned thing about it. So don't kid yourself that it's only about suffering people trying to find shade. It's about enabling a "lifestyle" with way more than half of them. Testimony to this is that police are finding that a huge percentage of the new growth in So-Cal homeless are people from out of state. They aren't going through the effort to relocate interstate for any other reason than it's the mecca of lawlessness and permissiveness.
Billions upon billions of new tax dollars later and we have record spikes in the homeless population. So please don't tell me tax payers are doing nothing. It's the powerful politicians who are not only doing nothing but they are encouraging it so they can keep their donors rich with fat contracts and "consultant fees". If they were doing something about it, the numbers would decrease, not spike out of control.

@@mikeg3439 relocating to a new state is mad expensive. it took like 10k to move from CA to PA....so I doubt homeless people are foregoing a roof for funsies.
I mean there's a reason we have inheritance, financial well-being is largely a matter of interia...if the money flow stops, getting it going in the right direction again takes a lot of effort.

@@cptfullsack6373 roger that, Captain. I would say relocating for someone who begs for a living can be massively less expensive though. Atl to LA on a bus is $230 to $280, add to that food and a panhandler can easily move for $300-$350, which is three days of panhandling for your average person in a city of decent size. I used Atl as an example because a lot of our new influx, per our county sheriff, are from the ATL. And that's one of the furthest destinations to get here.
Add to that the fact that our Sheriff is getting feedback that some cities are paying for the bus fare and you get the idea of why the influx. Combine that with the fact that we are also dumping prisoners (early release) into the streets and it's just a mess.

For such an important intersection due to the proximity to the school why not have guards at the tunnel(s) so it can be used for what it was designed -- to let pedestrians cross busy, dangerous intersections without endangering themselves and endlessly frustrating the motorists. NO homeless allowed; NO drug dealing allowed. Is that too "Pollyanna-ish?"

There are many of these former pedestrian tunnels in LA. The city should just take some ground up concrete from building demolitions and fill these tunnels, then seal them off permanently. Then they can deal with the tent cities on every block, one by one.
The city cannot possibly offer free housing to each and every one of these homeless individuals. Many couldn't get jobs even if jobs were available. For every one individual that is just "down on their luck" there are countless more with serious substance abuse and mental health issues . I say that from experience. I was once where they are: jobless, broke, and with no one to turn to for help. I still have nightmares about sleepless nights in shelters, or all night movie theaters. It was a quick fall down, and a long slow climb back up...but I did it.
