My favorite birthday cake is the one my grandmother made me for my 7th birthday...angel food cake with a pink glaze drizzle....& she took a thin vase put it on the center with her pink roses from the garden...1971 & still want that every yr 50 years later....
❤️❤️❤️
Wisconsin Supper Clubs = Brandy Alexanders! Next time, I'm hoping you make grasshoppers!
Happy Birthday Randy! Also a 1963 baby. Love your humor and your yummy recipes.
Keep the videos coming please!!
I was also born in 1963!. I don't like chocolate but do love cherry. I used to ask for the Betty Crocker cherry chip cake with cherry frosting for my birthday. My mom thought it was horrendous and when I turned 13 she finally refused to make it again, LOL. For the last 46 years my birthday cake of choice is a special order Carvel ice cream cake that has no chocolate ice cream or chocolate crunchies.
The Passing Squall could be a take on a Dark N Stormy swapping the rum for a smooth bourbon!
Love u Randy Sharp all the way from Louisiana! 1964 kid here - born in Berkeley, CA. You gave your subscribers a present for YOUR Bday! Beignets are for one thing the city near here, New Orleans , is famous! Beignets at the Coffee Call with strong coffee with lots of milk! Happy Birthday Randy. Enjoyed this!!!
LOL My younger sister LOVED Brandy Alexanders in about 1982. We shared a room when I was home from college, and I spent many a night listening to her puking in a bucket all night long! Ha, Ha.... can't believe you brought up that memory.
"Picture it, 1964, Brooklyn." Ex-fishmonger here! 👋 Randy, we are simpatico because I was just going to watch a Fanny Craddock Christmas vid, but I said to myself, "I need a DPT fix." Wishing you the happiest of birthdays! xoxo 😘😘🎊🎉✴️ I spy two new pups. 🐕 🐕 They are two of the luckiest pups in the world to have Randy. 🤗
Love, love, love you! ❤️ Awesome blast from the past!
Passing squall, as someone else wrote, immediately thought of a dark rum based drink. And the Happoest of Birthdays to you!!
Happy birthday Randy!
The world is a better place because you're in it
I remember for my 8th grade graduation, my Dad & Stepmom took me to the Mark Twain Diner in Jackson Heights (Queens) and ordered me a Brandy Alexander. It did taste like a dessert but I felt so grown up...LOL
I'm a native Rhode Islander, live in Newport - and it is beautiful here. I don't agree that we are an extension of Massachusetts, because we are quite different culturally actually, however as we are such a small state, the northern communities do blend in with Mass and the southern (such as Newport) with Connecticut. We had clams casino frequently, and it was so good to see it again as I haven't made it in years - ours was just like yours, only my mom added crisp bacon - thanks for doing this - I was born in 64 and share memories.
Who the hell doesn't like icing?! That is the best part!
HI. Love your channel.
The passing squall - as a Florida native I would suggest spiced rum with a tropical flavored mix such as mango or papaya.
Also some blue curaçao. I imagine a drink called the passing squall as blue for some reason.
I was born in October 1963. I just so enjoyed this episode! I always enjoy every episode. But even in Cape Town, South Africa, this was such an awesomely, nostalgic episode! I really enjoyed it thoroughly! ☺ Love you Big Time Randy! You're always such a pleasure to watch! Mwah! 😚😘💋
Happy birthday Randy!!
I’ll be there for dinner… what time again?😂😂😂👏👏👏
Happy Birthday! I hosted a 70's dinner party Bunco this month. You were my inspiration for my tablescape. We had meatloaf and dirty martinis. So much fun!!!
That Dalmatia fig spread is always in my refrigerator. They make Fig+Orange now which I like too. I make cream cheese and dalmatia tea sandwiches lol. I love the cherry best.
A "Passing Squall" should be on of those cocktails that "performs" when served and drunk ( like a Slippery Nipple or Lights in the Harbor). I suggest either a layering of Creme de Menthe, Blue Cacao, and gin or vodka and maybe a chocolate liqeur (for the dark sky); or a drink that precipates (dances as it settles in an up martini glass) after being shaken with finely crushed ice using coconut liquer (snow) -- line rim with really fine ground fresh cocount , vodka and maybe a drop of blue cacao added at end to create a sky-blue swirling in the glass. Garnish with a sprig of champagne white grapes or lime.
Have a wonderful Happy Birthday, Randy! I so enjoy watching your shows! I am 10 years older than you and we just had egg salad sandwiches or hot dogs at any birthday party that I went to, but I loved seeing your dinner come together. I will definitely be trying your version of the Black Forest Cake and also the Clams Casino! Love seeing little Joan and Maude!
New meaning to Grape Nuts!!
After the Brandy Alexander in the '70s came the Amaretto Stone Sour of the '80s!
What an epic episode! When that Chicken á la King was done, all I could think of was making individual servings with a puff pastry topping! The Passing Squall : a good bourbon and a drizzle of that syrup from the jar of Amarena Cherries.
I love wild rice. My mom introduced me to it in the mid-60s and she explained to me that wild rice was in fact, not a rice, but actually a grass that’s harvested in Minnesota. In any case, my developing palate thought that the taste of this nutty and toasty rice was absolutely wonderful probably because my mother added a generous tablespoon of pure butter when the rice was done, but I prefer it without adding white rice, which I always thought was added, because it was cheaper than cooking, wild rice by itself. I absolutely love your videos and i share them with friends! Thank you so much for your channel.
Happy birthday, Randy. I hope you have a wonderful day
Maybe Fanny meant grape tomatoes, a cream cheesy (mascarpone?) pesto, dipped in crushed pine nuts! I could see that being tasty! Surely they just left off some words! Happy Birthday!!
Nope!! Checked it over and over!! It IS that gross and don’t forget she also suggests using cherries as well… Even more grim!!
@@randysharp6065 haha...I guess she was just nuts. I have many old "workbasket" magazines. They have loads of similarly disgusting sounding recipes. I love them! Cringing, gagging, giggles every time I flip through them. 🤣
the grape thing reminded me of a fruit salad at some family gatherings growing up that never quite seemed to mesh well, esp. in my stomach lol
Happy Birthday Randy 🍷🍒 🍷 I love your very subtle “R” rated jokes. You make me laugh every time. Wink wink 😉 I hope the new ladies are enjoying their new home 💕🐾💕
i was born in the '50's .... never had any of these until well into my 20's except fer da chicken. i get my wild rice right from the reserve in northern Ontario , from my sister from an other mother lol will have to try the beignets de Fromage , yup mom used to make the chicken a la king on toast. once again a great show , thank you
Thank you for your great shows. I'm addicted!
When I cook wild rice I start by soaking it in very hot water, changing the water about three times, and then cooking it as white rice using long-grain white rice. I finish the dish with a knob of butter. The flavour of the wild rice infuses into the white rice.
Happy Birthday, Randy! I am also a 1963 baby -- but we didn't have any of that. It was hash mash and government rations, Elios pizza and my mom's lazy meatballs in greasy pan gravy. Dad made a pot roast once a month if we were lucky. Cherries also my favorite.
Ah, Suzuki Beane, illustrated by Louise Fitzhugh, the author of my favorite childhood story, Harriet the Spy. ❤️
This was great Randy, thank you! We had chicken a la king served on puff pastry rounds with the little cut out circle on top!!!!
BTW, Maude is really sweet and seems so happy and relaxed. Good job!
As a native Philadelphian, my heart skipped a beat hearing you say jimmies 🥳
I remember brandy Alexander when I lived in NY from 66 to 82. NY was a lot better those days 😮
Good heavens! I wish you lived near me.......birthday party in New Orleans (actually Covington, but across Lake Pontchartrain from New Orleans! Party time!!!
Happy BELATED birthday randy !! Love your channel and all you do for us home cook foodies.
Re. The Passing Squall: after reading up on the painting of the same name, I’d suggest some rendition of a dark and stormy (dark and stormy seas such as the passing squall in the painting), and/or maybe spin it with a grapefruit citrus garnish vs lime..but that’s more bc GF is salty like the sea. I might be too literal here but 🤷🏻♀️
Randy yesterday I made your Dutch potatoes, I made the duck breast and the sauce, I used cranberries instead of Cherries but everything came out fabulous so thank you for your recipes. Many more Happy birthdays 🎉❤
Chicken a la king was popular for parties due to the white sauce, meaning no stain like spaghetti would.
1964 baby here. We were always served chicken a la king in puff pastry shells. Loved this episode and your new puppers, too! Many happy returns.
My sister in law used to make Brandy Alexander in the blender with vanilla ice cream and your other ingredients. It was yummy.
Happy Birthday Randy!!! You’re the best.
Beautiful production and super funny. 🎉❤
I love your show🌰and when you sing....
Love this! Happy Birthday to you
Great job on your beignets. Dump powdered sugar on them for a delightful southern tradition
Passing Squall: should be a drink containing Violet liqueur. Just a touch... to give it the right color. There is a drink I ordered from a downtown Baton Rouge bar years ago which I loved called "Kite in a Hurricane". It did have the Violet liqueur as an ingredient. Might want to check out Pat O'Brien's (NOLA) famous "Hurricane".
I didnt realize today i'd find a new role model, but it happened. thanks for the giggle fest
This brought back memories! Happy Birthday, Randy!
Happy birthday Randy 🎉🥳🎉.Easter blessings for all 🙏❤️🙏
Love you Randy. Happy Birthday and thanks for keeping the content alive. SO MUCH QUALITY
This is my favorite episode thus far, you are so entertaining Randy. Good job to your entire team at Dinner Party Tonight. 🐶
I love old fashioned cake recipes. I actually adapted a chocolate cake recipe, like the recipe you're using here, by substituting carob powder for the cocoa and a cup of hot espresso for the water. My husband is allergic to chocolate, but he's always loved the look and scent of German chocolate cake. So, I make a German Carob cake for him. The cake comes out very moist and tender and looking a bit like devil's food cake. I must confess, while it certainly doesn't taste exactly like chocolate, the caramel notes and slight bitterness of the coffee do come very close. Add the traditional coconut pecan frosting, and you have a happy, satisfied boy. As you said in a previous episode, feeding and nourishing a loved one is a beautiful thing.
love you! glad you're back.
MANNNNNNN! You make my day Randy! Super excited to make this, I’ll send pics! When I watch you I feel like I’m right there in the kitchen with you! 🛳🎂🎈🍾🧑🍳🎉
The Passing Squall - Randy, whatever ya do use vodka! at some point in the cocktail. Just a thought. Cheers!
Born in 1964 so I remember SO much of this - ahh the old days! Happy Birthday Randy. My grandmother always served the green Jello with fruit inside-yuck! I always asked for German Chocolate cake which I got some years.
but did you ever have the 1970's green Jell-O with shredded carrots, diced celery and raisins??????? My mom made it for every holiday!!! lol.
Happy birthday ❤
We used to order a brandy, Alexander with a scoop of ice cream✨
The Fanny Cradock grapes remind me of something Sandra Lee would've made on Semi-Homemade Cooking. 🤭
lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you're a riot!
I imagine the passing squall is some sort of boozy London fog, earl grey infused spirit, orgeat, maybe a lil bergamot or orange peel to express over the top, served up! I’m probably missing a component but that’s my idea
Re the grapes: a slightly different version was made in the 80s. See Martha Stewart’s Entertaining. Grapes rolled in a blue cheese mixture then in chopped nuts
the egg story🤣🤣🤣
I am also a 63 baby and I love how you are not coy about your age
I was born in 1974 and I remember my Mom making the chicken a la king. Totally gross then and now! Never liked the stuff! However, that cake is super good! I actually make it at Xmas time.
I like your short cut version of this cake, but I think kirsch would be better and don't you soak it into the cake. Is substituting oil for butter better?
p.s.(love your show, especially the trips down memory lane.)
Randy which pans are those? Ive never seen them before
A Passing Squall is any drink that upsets your stomach.
Can I be your Suzuki Beane? 😉😘😘
Clams casino is out of fashion!?! Never, especially if you’re clamming your own sweet little necks!
