One of your best videos ever! This guy is a TRUE enthusiast. You can tell by his voice that he lives to do this. Awesome just Awesome 😎...And he does it with a SBF.. My all time favorite. 👍
Thank you!
The thing is, when people find out a person is a go getter, like this guy is; they work them to death....
I bet he has no idea where the snooze button is on his alarm!
I’ve got an addiction to NA small blocks. May not make the most power but the sound is 👌🏼
@@RadDadisRad my Dad and I had a .030 over 350cid so 355cid and it was together for over 15 years with no catastrophic failures and was never taken out of the car and it had 14.1:1 compression so a big dome piston and it a .540 lift solid flat tappet camshaft in it and it was N/A and the 72 Nova it was in weighed exactly 3000lbs on the nose with a 230lbs driver and it was all steel all glass and everyone that was ever around it said that it was the best sounding SBC they ever heard and it ran consistently high 10s every weekend at the track and was on the street for the first half of it's life so it pulled double duty so to speak and then we took it off the street and just ran it on the track and after 15 years we pulled that small block out and put a bigger small block in because we wanted to go faster and that engine was still together and running when we pulled it out
@@revanevan when you find these high rpm builds please go into the valve train details if possible. hp is easy high rpm is not...
Thank you for keeping it real and not throwing a LS in it...SBF allllll dayyyy!!!?
LS STILL GIVING SOME fördern PEOPLE NIGHTMARES…
@@Dominator37 all this name brand fan boying is annoying and childish. My"dads chevy is cooler than your dad's ford!" Shut up! Real enthusiasts aren't brand loyal like little middle school kids.
@@Dominator37 I have a 700hp NA 427 LS7, a 600hp NA coyote that revs too 9000rpm and a blueprint 632 BBC "800hp" all awesome all different. Quit trying to be loyal to some cooperate company that could give a rats ass about you lol
7 seconds with 1000 HP is impressive.
Clearly a light car
Old school D-3 cylinder headed SBF and still winning championships. Awesome video Evan.
That man just oozes knowledge.
Honored to watch him run and listen to him talk.
Thank you.
This is beyond cool! Old-school D3 motor, revving to the moon, with a 5-speed. This reminds me of the glory days of Pro Stock. Thanks Evan.
Those were the glory days!
Killer car man!!! shades of Les Baer and Doug Mangrum. ive said this a million times a Cleveland style headed Ford smallblock is the BADDEST smallblock on the planet!!!
I ran 3 different Cleveland engines.
They were manufactured in Australia for 2 years I believe.
The Australian block and heads were punched out from the same piece.
Which meant they heated and cooled the same.
A lot less likely to warp.
You could just about throw baseball through the ports.
Polish the heads and add some other goodies... and you could run pass after pass and crush dreams with a grin.
David Vizard is our Smokey Yunik of today......he has special ideas for certain applications.... this bein one.... KUDOS David, and NOT takin away from all the work to make this car that bad ass.... i just LOVE Vizard....
Leonard is one of the best in the business. He is always willing to help anyway that he can. Being a transmission or just good advice.
And my coworkers tell me there’s no such thing as a fast Ford. And “all of the fast ones” have LS motors. Well done sir!
So cool to see some of the "older" Ford Nascar high port V8's being used in a different kind of racing, don't follow drag racing that much but this car engine/head combo is way cool, that high rpm sound reminds me when some of the Ford Nascar teams were turning ridiculous RPM's at the end of the the straights like the 10,000+ Leonard is talking about oh man love that sound!!!
those are the best small block castings ford has ever made. used in nascar between 2004 and 2009. I would love a set but they cost like over 10 grand new.. love this stuff even though i live in europe
A great interview with a wonderful man. Mr. Long is a treasure to the sport!
That's insane; 1100 hp n/a with a small block Ford. I wish Kye Kelly would of stuck with his original plan of putting that sbf in that car for the endgame. I would of loved too see everyone reaction when he popped the hood and had a sbf in a Chevy 😄 said he had one of the badest sbf's you can find and I don't doubt it with the money he has.
Ford guys are the BEST... Combine talent and Ford and you have a winning combination
HELL YEAH!!! another mature man running an MT!!! I'm 60yo and sold the last AT vehicle I owned in 1983!! 3 pedals forever!!!
That's an Old School Grass Roots racer right there.
N/A all the way! Thanks for sharing.
You’re welcome Paul.
Always a class act Leonard... Thanks for G-Force's many years of support with our Coyote Stock program. 👍
Mr Long appears to know what he’s talking about. He is a great interviewee with a great 'no-BS' attitude. Nonstop rapid fire information. 👍
Wow. What a great video. I’m 70 years old and watched a lot of drag racing. Nice to see N/A Ford power, but more than that: 10,000 rpm with a pushrod V8….that is amazing. Not so long ago, if you could turn 8500 everyone assumed you were running the ragged edge of blowing up on every run. Valve train technology and aftermarket blocks and rotating assemblies have continued to improve the breed. I had to laugh when he said he is using “old style” NASCAR heads.
Those castings are in fact over 25 years old, C3's and D3's are canted, and flow in the 400's int. Im sure close to 16:1 comp. too... great all motor small cube combo!
I believe those heads were used in the early 90s. 700ish horsepower in a Cup car back then. I always wanted to see a set on a 427+ cube small block!
@@collegeparkwhiteboy The C3 castings are splayed valve, the D3's are canted. Nascar run the D3 castings all the way into the mid 2000s prior to the FR9. This engine is more than likely 17+ to 1 and Over a 1" of lift on the camshaft. Essentially a Australian prostock deal.
Yes they are based off the d3 head but both the intake ports and exhaust ports have been welded up and raised so much that the valve cover rail had to be raised up too . The chambers were redone with 2.300 int and 1.58 exh valves and I think the valve angle were changed too (it been a long time ago that we did them I don’t remember if we changed the valve angle or not but I think we did) and yes it has over 1.00 in lift cam in it. So yes it’s based off from the old nascar heads but are nothing like what they used in nascar.
@@colt7448 not quite a Australian pro stock it’s about 150 hp less and there all using billet heads
So glad to see that there's real guys that they're not using junk bow tie Motors in the Fords.... good job y'all 💯👈🏾 plus good to see manual transmissions still out there.. everything's going sissy fide!!!
The way I see it guys Chevy think they have the market nowadays!! But they just don't understand a 5.0 it's out doing with their six leaders are doing. Including the 3.5 L EcoBoost
Mr. Long sounds like a real car master! Turning 10,000 on a 415 sounds just amazing! It's so good to see he's running that great & with a Ford engine, not some other brand, like too many are doing!!! Absolutely loved watching this! By the way,my late mom's maiden name was Long...I wonder?!lol Keep up your great work man, love your videos!❤😎👍
He's just found the flow he needed. Not to bring up Chevy for anything important, but when you build a 4.8L vs. a 6.0L they basically turn about the same top end RPM. 283's used to be RPM king back in the double hump days, but the double humps had the right flow for a 283 or maybe 327. On a 350 or 400 not so much.
@@kramnull8962 I know guys with small block chevys years ago, were turning 10,000 on strictly drag engines. I was referring to the guys that run Chevy engines in Ford bodies. It's nice to see that guys can be very competitive with Ford powered Fords!
@@Mike583 My only point was just the fact that most all of those 10,000 RPM sbc's were the small cubes. Not a 350 or 400. Wasn't until they got better heads that flowed better for the bigger cubes. Not the double humps on those bigger motors.
@@Mike583 I think it was 1990-92 that Yates started getting 9400-9600 RPM with the Ford engines. I cannot remember what style block they were using back then, but that was a huge mountain to climb in NASCAR.
@@Mike583 - that’s not really news tho is it? Really good powerful Ford engines out there can’t tell if you’re giving compliment or downplaying it. Who cares what chevy doing or who swaps what
I had many mentors in my life, people that believed in me and many that didn’t. Skeet gave me my first job in 2000. I went in after school to clean up and empty metal cans. Serviced some vehicles and so forth.
Now today, I own my own company down the street from his current shop. I pass his old shop and house everyday going to work.
Skeet, thank you for giving me an opportunity to start my working life and seeing something in me.

This guy’s my new hero...keep kicking ass uncle🤙🏽
I would love to see his entire set up transplanted into a Fairmont. Blue and White. You know the look...
Evan, this video is AWESOME! As u already know, Lenoard is a great guy and always willing to educate/share his knowledge, which is considerable. He and his crew put the work in to stay at the front of the class
Thanks for watching
He mentioned Vizard... who made record of everything he touched associated with cylinder heads for decades. You only have to keep the bottom together and make the most of static compression ratios. The Heads and the Camshaft are what most interest me, figure he's into the 0.900 + lift range with duration pushing 300° @.050, Intake opening around 40° to 42° BTDC and Intake closing around 74° to 76° ABDC with 106° L/S Takes one wild ass camshaft to turn 10,000 while making HP to the top. Those secrets we'll never know, but it's fun to speculate. Nice Operation. (and of course, he mentioned the importance of chassis tuning)
Different guy, he’s speaking about Dave Visner. Vizard is really smart as well.
I could listen to him talk about cars for days lol
Very impressive. Loved this class. Never too old to impress & learn. Evan I dare say this type of video is getting better than your written articles from back in the day. Just kidding. Keep the great content going in 5th gear just like that gforce.
I really enjoy doing these!
Love the video revin and I think your car is very awesome man I'm so glad you're using Ford power and doing it with a straight driver just absolutely awesome and with a small block Ford you didn't cross us up like a lot of these dummies do keep on pulling the night out of them bow ties showing these boys why we need to keep forwards in Fords and quit crossing up with that bow tie crap
Leonard is such a cool guy. All those years experience sure shows. Thanks for sharing with us Evan. Loves me some Blue Oval power!
Thanks for the video. Can't beat a high revvin small block ford.
I love the ford's badass mustang . engine is my dream engine
That car goes laser straight from start to finish. Awesome setup.
Gettin it done with a small block FORD!!! Sharp looking car as well, looks like factory laser red paint.
Brian Spangler. Too bad he couldn’t have raced in the Pro Stock trucks against BILL GRUMPY JENKINS … OH YEAH…. JENKINS ENGINES WON USING A SMALL BLOCK CHEVY WITH LITTLE CHIEF HEADS…! THE SMALL BLOCK CHEVY HAS WON A FEW CHAMPIONSHIPS ALL OVER THE WORLD …🏁😎 Leonard is just awesome though…!
Would love to see this engine go through a tear down and a rebuild.
Great stuff! You don't see too many of these factory engines anymore. There is a little DRCE chevy\pontiac parts still floating around. Those engines are still out there winning.
Great interview
This is the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen.
Love this video. Evan you make some awesome content keep up the great work.
Amazing stuff! Love the start to finish description and hearing the level of details involved.

This was such a great video, this guy is an innovator, it is so refreshing to listen to someone who builds his own stuff! So many people on you tube today spend so many $ to go fast but really dont know anything!

David V is a genius on engines and this Mustang rocks.
that car reminds me of Les Baer's, plus Leonard is a legend!
Great video!
