Daaamn that's badass!!! My brother and I just built a '71 Maverick with a 351W. It's not gonna be on this power level though lol. It's been bored to a 363ci, 12:1 forged pistons, AFR 185cc small chamber heads, mildly radical cam, RPM Air Gap intake (mildly hand ported and port matched to the head), ford 9" rear end with reinforced spring perches, ladder bars, and a 3 speed toploader manual transmission. Should be putting down about 400hp to 450hp at the wheels. We built it as a fast fun tribute to our other brother who past away several years ago from a brain tumor. He had one of these cars as his first car back in the mid 90's, and it had a stock 302 and he took it to the local drag strip to race it. He loved these cars and never stopped talking about that car, and always wanted to build a fast one but never got around to it before he passed.
One must realize just how truly impressive this car is. 388 cubic inches. 1050 horsepower. Ran a 7.89 at 177 mph. All motor. Irrespective of the brand, you have to respect those numbers. You just don't see that very often nowadays. Great Maverick brother
I'm a die hard Ford FE guy. It's all I've known for 50 plus years. But I will concede that turning that small block over 10,000 RPM lights my FORD fire. Great work with your SB Maverick. Truly impressive !
I think that the Ford Maverick is one of the best looking US cars of the 70's.
The maverick almost has Camaro lines, Ford guy though, before I knew any better , almost bought a 68 327 Camero vinyl top auto
As a Mopar guy from late 60’s early 70’s I can appreciate Muscle cars from that era as the best looking race cars. This Maverick has to be the most attention to detail beautiful Maverick I’ve seen it’s a real work of art plus it’s got 5 speed! It runs straight and hard, what a great car! Two really great things about it is that it has a naturally aspirated small block that’s a FORD and not a Chevy under the hood. If someone wants to race a Chevy then put it in a Chevy.

I'm a Chevy guy, and I agree. If I was to suddenly end up with a Ford, I'd be stroking a 351 and getting me some nasty heads. Unless, of course, I found me a 460 block.

My eldest daughter has a '71 Maverick Grabber that we built with a 5.8 HO crate engine, C6 transmission and a Ford 9" Detroit Locker 4:30 rear gears. The car does low 11's consistently.

Junk that C6 and get a built C4 and you will pick up a half second. A C6 drains 60 horsepower from your engine. A good C4 will hold up fine and get you in the 10s. I believe it was TCI that made a C4 with a lifetime warranty and 1000hp capability.
@@Axeman428 Oh hell no. It's her car and other than the engine, it was built with components that we already had. Primarily, it's a street driven car and not built just for drag racing. On the street, it has a 3:50 gears with a Detroit Locker posi unit and Goodyear GT radial tires. I'm a master level factory certified auto/truck tech that worked for Ford for 40 years. I've been drag racing since the mid 60's and I damn sure know how to build a C6 transmission for best performance. My former NHRA gasser 1957 Ford Custom 2 doors sedan does mid 9's. I set 3 NHRA records with that car and won 3 NHRA class championships with it also. My 1969 Boss 302 Mustang won 2 NHRA Pure Stock class championships. I bought that car new at Tasca Ford in RI One of my former NHRA AA/FC cars is at Don Garlits Museum in Ocala FL. I/we did well with that car also. I do know a lot about drag racing. Likely, far more than you.

Damn that’s one hell of an 8.2 deck engine, I was expecting a Cleveland combination, that much horsepower out of an 8.2 deck with less than 400 cubic inches is absolutely amazing, I dig it. 👍🏻

Say when racing outlaw 10.5 car is making 3631 hp with a 427 Windsor stock bore space 9.5" deck, heck the cam height is even windsor still.

I am biased because Craig is my brother. That was a good video.. I remember going out what I was a youngster going to cruise first Avenue with my brother Craig. He bought that car from an old friend of ours a Vietnam vet, Johnny Craft.
Craig is one cool dude. 1050 out of 388ci is absolutely insane!!!!!
In 82 I was a senior in high school and had a 72 Caprice Classic with a 402 4 Barrel. Cruise, climate control and 6 way bench seats. Great car. Set the cruise on 90mph and those bench seats were like sitting in the living room

Every aspect of that car is finely tuned....and the man builds his own headers to boot. A peek under the valve cover? What a classy sportsman.
BES is about 10 miles from me. My Son helped him move into his then new shop. Anyone can make a Chevy run, but it takes bravado to run a 10200 rpm Ford. I also had a Maverick but it had the 170 engine. Congrats on having such a unique car!
All motor is the true way to know a real engine builders. Finding those lil tweeks that put them ahead of the rest of class.

What a way to run 7s!! My 69 Camaro runs 7.70s but that's with a 565" Dart Chevy with a 10/71 and dual 1050s. I took the easy way and as bad as that Camaro is, it can't hold a candle to this Maverick...

I've Been a Small block, C-4 spooled 4:11 "72 Maverick owner/ weekend bracket racer from about '99 to 2010 off and on. Still makes me ill having to have sold it all for hard times. Love it , I still have my high school car (1976) and it started life as 302 and 3 speed, 279 geared 8” rear. It is a super pro car now sporting a 514 “ motor, glide trans, and a pro stock style rear . It’s a 1972 Mercury Comet GT.

I love how the Maverick is finally getting the respect it has always deserved. I hate what it has done to the current prices though! I've been looking for another one ever since I sold the 1972 Maverick Sprint I used to have. I never thought I would ever see Mavericks going for $10K, never mind the ones with $30K plus!

As a sophomore in HS, I'm reminded of the 1969 Ford Drag Team Mavericks. Most particularly, was Ed Terry's Silver Bullet Maverick that he raced on the west coast.. and at Fremont drags throughout the late 60's and early 70's.

I knew a guy in the 80s that had a 60 Falcon with a stroked 289. It had a straight shot tunnel ram. I think it ran high 11s. He ran it at 9 grand but I think he said he could go to 10 or 11 if he wanted to. If he’s from Cedar Rapids I’ve probably seen this guy, same stomping grounds.
That is an incredible amount of power from that combination. Unbelievable. Very likely current Pro-Stock technology implemented in a much smaller displacement

Reminds me so much of my 70 Maverick the same color even that started life in North Carolina with a straight six and three on the tree to. Put a Boss 302 crate engine and top loader four speed manual. A swap to five lug on all four corners with V8 mustang front suspension and springs and disc brakes with nine inch 4.11 gear with heavy duty springs and drag shocks all four wheels. Had 15" Cragar SS wheels front and rear, N50 mickies on the rear. Street raced back in the day. Canted valve small block humbled a few big blocks, Chevelle and Charger back in the day. Engine was bone stock out the crate and Rousch headers and remote oil filter setup.
Oh I love that distributor design that is such a cool idea that solves so many problems for guys who still love the distributor and blowers

My first car was a brown white 74 Grabber 250cid back when it was the furthest thing from cool during high school in 1996. Regularly got called a "Pinto Plus" even though I loved it and kept it shiny.

I own an early 1970/69.5 myself. Which just so happens to have the same engine 200 6cyl and 3speed manual transmission his Maverick orginally had. The shifter was moved to the floor.
I have a new front and rear suspensions for the car.
The engine & trans will also be upgraded. My Maverick will be designed for handling.
My first car was a 74 Maverick my Dad bought me in the early 90's I started customizing and had it till 2008. Unfortunately had financial issues and had to sell it. That sucked letting it go, and why I bought another as soon as I could.

I`m a Mopar guy but in 1996 for a mere sum of $200 simply couldn`t resist 'grabbing' a great running 1972 Maverick 2 dr/ht with 302 auto. Then I found a non-running sister-car`73 Comet GT also for $200.
