To me IF you can't appreciate this truly magnificent performance of Andy Williams at his absolute BEST you don't understand the complexities of singing this song or know very little about REAL music. Two hundred and nine people here who voted this down aren't very intelligent!
This has quickly become my ALL TIME favorite Christmas song....and ONLY Andy Williams does it justice! Seriously, the man could sing a phone book & it would be beautiful. This song gives me chills & literally makes me fall on my knees in gratitude for Christ our Lord & Savior. That deep bass voiced back up singer is amazing too!
I feel sorry for people who can't appreciate the beauty of a voice like his. I posted this on Facebook last year and older people gave it a thumbs up but most younger people were saying stuff like, "OMG, YUCK, LAME". At first it made me kinda mad but then realized how shallow and musically empty they are and I felt pity.
I am sorry that you feel this way, and that the young people around you don't appreciate this sort of music. Especially, Andy Williams,Eartha Kitt, FrankSinatra, John Lennon and many others. However, my mother herself is young, but she grew up on old music and movies and I, myself have come to appreciate the beauty of this sort of music. Where they use their talents and REAL instruments and NO synthesizers. But I appreciate ALL music and I AM one of those young kids. And PLEASE know that NOT ALL of us say any of those comments. Just those that don't know the message of the songs.
I did say "MOST" younger people [that posted a reply]. I know there are younger people who appreciate real music but it's getting fewer and father in between. Actually I too grew up liking older music. Though I was born in the early Rock & Roll era [and I love rock music] but I still listened to big band swing, classical and pretty much all kinds of music growing up. But I've been in several bands in recent years with guys only a few years younger than me and they can't even appreciate the Beatles, much less someone like Andy Williams. Very frustrating for me.
I grew up in a home that had Andy Williams, Perry Como, Vaughn Monroe, Ray Coniff, and many other albums (yep, albums...that's how old I am, haha) that gave me a wonderful appreciation for music that I still carry with me. I used to play my Grandma's Andy Williams albums every time I was at her home, when I was about 8 or 9 years old!
Silver Jag By the way, I am Dwight's wife and I wrote the reply above! Silver Jag...don't pay any attention to the thumbs down, if they weren't exposed to great classics like Andy, they never learned to listen and appreciate him and all the others folks have mentioned in this comments section. Thank's for posting this song!
Actually though I understand your point, I wasn't "exposed" to older music either. I grew up waaaaay out in the country with the nearest neighbors over a mile away, didn't even know who they were. My parents only listened to news, they never even owned a record player. And my older siblings only listened to top 40 rock. So my appreciation of music was totally of my own volition. But my point is, kids of the "hip hop" era seem to only care about Cell phones and video games and their accompanying "plastic" sound tracks. But as you originally replied, some younger people can appreciate music but I'm wondering what disciples of the Hip Hop generation will be listening to???
Andy Williams was a great part of me and my husbands life. He worked away from home , and at weekends when he came home he would bring an LP of Andy Williams, and there would always be a special song just for me on it, We have a great collection , priceless they are too. Thankfully we got to see him in concerts when he came to England 4 times. Great memories and greatly missed.
Tears every time, especially with the video since it reminds me of being a kid in the 70’s and watching the Christmas specials on TV with Andy Williams, Perry Como, Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, etc. Those days and that true, humble, respectable and respectful TALENT are long gone.
To me this beautiful carol is Christmas. It touches something deep inside, makes me feel warm, happy and sad all at the same time. Andy's voice is simply stunning. RIP.
Andy didn't need whistle notes and trills to make this sound majestic. He stated in an interview this was a difficult song to sing but he makes it sound effortless and uncontrived. He always included at least one solemn Christmas song in his annual tv Christmas special to remind us of the reason for the season. Class act.
I can see why Andy was called "Mr. Christmas" among so many other wonderful names. He really was Christmas. I had a dream of him. He was in this log cabin beautifully decorated with Christmas decorations. It reminded me of what Santa's house must have looked like. All through out the house you could hear Andy's beautiful voice singing Christmas songs and there I suddenly saw Andy. He said that "THIS" was his new gig (He had already died) living here and singing to God.
His Christmas specials were always much anticipated when I was growing up. The music was great and the sets were always beautiful. I remember watching him sing this, spell-bound by the beauty of his powerful and crystalline voice. Andy never "over sung" a song, he let the beauty of the music stand on its own. When he sang a hymn, it was done in a respectful and tender manner. Andy Williams was a gentlemen's gentleman - a class act all the way! RIP, Andy. Your beautiful voice lives on.
I shiver and my eyes well up every time I hear Mr. Williams sing this piece. The set feels like a cold winters night but Mr. Williams looks so beautiful, radiating a loving warm glow. His voice is strong, tender and comforting all at once. He moves with grace. It is a joy to watch him. It is a joy to hear him.
I know music and I know Andy Williams. My Dad was a professional musician, I grew up listening to great singers. My Dad the pro always said Frank was the best. Sorry Dad, no he wasn't. Iowa born Andy William has him beat. Henry Mancini's Moon River, awesome. Try to Remember..awesome. Danny Boy...same. But Holy Night, the Andy Williams version is his greatest song. It is beyond comparison. Remarkable talent. No comparison exists! We listen to Andy every week in our home. We are blessed and thankful to know his music. And let me add my compliments to the composer of this wonderful song, Holy Night. Lovely! Classic and more than stands the test of time. Stunning song and performance.
Just heard of his passing. So sad. Many of the "great" ones are no longer around. I grew up listening to Andy Williams. Loved watching his show. R.I.P. It was a pleasure watching you all those years.
Loved Andy's voice, so clear and beautiful. We played his Christmas album every year while putting our Xmas tree up and my Dad would make us all Gaelic Coffee's. I cry when I hear/watch this as my Dad was also a lead Tenor in Glasgow Cathedral's Choir and he would sing this every Xmas Eve midnight mass. Fab memories xx
Our family always gathered around the Tv to watch his Christmas special ,to me it is the standard of class ,and beautiful Christmas music ! And always will be ❤️
This man had the velvet voice their were only a few. I was fortunate enough to have been able to listen to him all through my childhood. Very sofe voice. Its 2019 and still sounds fresh and new to me. And I am now 62.
My absolute favorite Christmas song and my favorite version performed by Andy Williams. It was an honor to watch him and the choirs perform this to close one of his Branson Christmas shows in the 90s. A true American legend.

Andy to me will always be the one singing this song. I really miss those Christmas specials he did. It was becoming a tradition with me. God bless you Andy & like Ronald Reagan said his voice is a national treasure.

Andy Williams did THE best version of this song I have ever heard. Give me Andy, any day and forget the women. It's just not, to me, a woman's song. It's a man's song and I could listen to Andy forever!
my heart breaks due to the fact i missed one of my favorites perform live in branson mo. for two years i tried to see him and the first year we missed on the dates we were in branson. the second year last year we missed him due to his illness. i remember seeing him at the moonriver grill and i was starstruck. may God bless u forever as u sing in the presence of God in Heaven.

Full on goosebumps... every singer of his era must have been like “damn I’ve been put on notice” after hearing this because he raised the bar...and so cool and smooth as well...I want to be him when I grow up
that's about as good as it gets. the whole special was pretty great. I saw pbs replay it recently. I think I was 4 when it was on broadcast. seems a lot different now. but thankfully we have Andy's music and gems like this Christmas special.
Andy Williams always made it everything much brighter and beautiful. If' I'm having a sad and weird day, this song and Moon River always did it for me. Love you Andy, wherever you are.
I just love his voice (I actually have a collection of his records) and the song is one of my favourite Christmas carols, but lol my 3 year old cracked me up by asking, "Is he wearing his night-night clothes?"
For me ,never has such a meaningful beautiful song been sung better than Andy sang it.when his or any version is sung and they sing "Fall on your knees" I have tears falling on my cheek from a emotion I can't describe..it's like my soul knows something.god bless Andy, sir I am privileged to have your music in my life.
My favorite version! I was born in 1989 and always remember this song being sung!! Beautiful and Merry Christmas! Jesus Christ was born and he lives today!
I was a fan for 50 years and I miss him. This is beautiful.
Andy Williams' voice is like being wrapped in a soft, warm blanket, sitting next to a fireplace. It just totally warms your soul.
Andy Williams’ version of this song is one of the most stunning recordings ever made
Totally!!!!
I used to look forward to it every year when I was a little kid. ❤
Perhaps the greatest version of Holy Night I have ever heard. Truly moving.
Not perhaps, it is clearly the most moving Christmas song ever performed. 🥲
It’s great but go listen to John Berry’s version it’s outstanding
There will never be a voice like Andy Williams.
Andy William, a man who understood his gift came from God and used it to praise Him.
One of the kindest and sweetest humans I've ever known. I loved this man. To hear him sing was truly a gift.
This is what perfection sounds like ...... Thank you .

Andy's version is amazing, this is true, but I feel that Perry Como's version, just about sneaks it. Both truly great though

Merry Christmas! 2023!
Heaven has another Angel's voice.
Each year before Christmas season I stop by to listen to this beautiful masterpiece
The clarity, tone and power of his voice will never be matched in comparison with this holy song. If this does not move you ...nothing ever will!
