I could never just drop to a completely different alternate tuning by ear..on the fly..and totally on the spot, with everyone watching on, waiting in you.. And nail the tuning , BAM! Right on! I've got terrible high school flashbacks when I would volunteer to play guitar at assembly...but once I got up there, and everyone is watching, waiting on you to hurry up...And suddenly I realise I am totally unprepared..and then when the spotlight hits..and I pick up the guitar, having had no sound check..I scurry to amp in dead silence, and dial something...hurry back to the spot and then suddenly realise as I strum a "test" chord, that it's waaaay out of tune. So, for the next hot minute and a half..I try tuning this untunable cruddy old Strat copy..audibly, by ear - to no avail! All of this in front of 300 kids who are staring at you and thinking, "What a loser!" 🤦♂️ Growing up was hard!! 🤣
Actually I think they call them axes because back in the day when two or more Blues guitar players were sharing the same stage and they and they had their call and response guitar battles they called it ''Cutting heads''. What better to cut a head with than an axe? Also I think that's where the term ''Chops'' came from. You're welcome Norm , lol
GOOD LUCK TO JIMMY V & MIKE MERRIT & JAMES WORMWORTH & ALLLLLLL THE CONAN HOUSE BAND!!!! HOPE JOE IS HAVING A FUN FALL TOUR!!!! LOVE THE MUDDY WOLVES!!!!! LOVE YOU ALLLLLLLLLLL!
There are a lot of guitar phrases I am sick and tired of. Especially when referring to the different woods and construction. Like rosewood being warmer, maple being brighter, humbuckers being darker, or nitrocellulose finish allows the wood to breath...and the list goes on and on. All created just to make it seem like we're all experts. And a guitar doesn't have a sound, it has a tone...I was told that once. Grrrrr.....
If someone handed you a guitar in some mysterious tuning called "open D minor" and you didn't know where the notes were, and told you to play a C minor chord .... isn't barring across the 10th fret the FIRST thing you would try?
+That smelly guy on the train that's probably one of the most gorgeous bursts I have ever seen. Love that Firebird too. Well, paying 50/50 would cause me a lot of problems Lol. But I'm still glad because I'm selling my '69 SG Special (I really don't dig P90s anymore) and I'm trading it for a '79 LP Standard with a pair of Dimarzio Super Distortions.
Big Joe is a hoag...a hoard of old guitars ...that go in some store room and people that want to find and USE one can't ...because of hoarding "collectors" ........ I own One old start...one old Paul, one martin, one Gibson acoustic....when I owned a guitar shop ...I would triple my prices to these type of guys and lower them down to the real lovers and appreciators of the vintage instruments....at least Eric said "can't take em with you when you go".... so SELL them to people who would truly love to own and PLAY these beautiful pieces Hi Jimmy
this white boy can play the blues. he has been able to play since he was a boy. Joe is the real deal. Probably the best alive, yeah even better than Clapton, nobody can touch him, really
Better than Clapton? I guess it's all preference. Joe can play for sure but I never really "feel" his playing if you know what I mean. Claptons playing sends shivers down my spine. I've never had anything even kind of from Joe
I love joe . But the Super rich have left the rest of us working class people with noses pressed against the Glass of the Guitar Store Window. I once owned a very average mid 90s Les Paul but I know il die now without ever owning another. Upside . You can get a killer Epiphone for realistic price .
....yea ....I'm tired of hearing 59 Les Paul blah blah .....I'm sure Les Paul himself played a 59 Les Paul at some point and time .....in 1959 .....when a 59
Bonamassa has to be the most overrated guitarist there is. He is just so commercial. A great blues guitarist is johnny winter. H never got the credit due amongst my others.
John Mayer is commercial dude. Joe B actually rose through the ranks of true blues players. Watch some of his live stuff, dude can rip some nasty licks. He has taste, thats why hes highly regarded.
Most underrated and over hated. Maybe because he is just amazing and has a huge cult following, instead of someone that became famous with their top 40 hits. Also might be because his real fans are guitar fans, if you just don't see what is special about guitars you miss a lot of his deliciousness.
Something's not quite right when he plays. He's certainly better than most of us could ever hope to be, but nothing stands out, and some licks seem hurried. Totally different than someone like Johnny Hiland where everything seems just right.
I GOT A FIREBIRD V FROM NORM IN 2011 LATER THAT SAME YEAR I BOUGHT A 1965 GIBSON J 160E FOR $2500 SUCH A DEAL! GOT TO GET A 1964 THUNDERBIRD BASS CARLOS GUITARLOS 90042 USA

Anyone else sick of the phrase "Cleanest one I've ever seen"...?
Well except if your talking about ladies parts, I'm quite fussy there!

Don't forget CREAMY
Diax1324 Oooo good one. Yeah, creamy is one of the WORST ones. Good call.
Actually, no.
joe bonamassa sounds like john c. reilly. :)
Omg he does

got to have that.....REALLY....
is jimmy vivino the guitarist on conan?
Yes, he is.
yes on Conan...bla bla bla ...
9:05 "Yuuuge!" Norm 4 President
Joe still seems like a kid to me.
A vintage Gibson with strings that go straight to the tuning pegs....
FINE INSTRUMENTS
Joe Bonamassa everywhere, worldwide. Not in Spain
+Martin Bohl HAHAHAHAHAHA
Jimmy fucking bangs the guitar on the amp when he gets up to show us the amp
does anybody at Guitar Center do anything but play fast blues scales?
Don't know. This is Normans Rare Guitars.
Yes Don Rickles is the best insult comedian on the planet.
If you really want to hear a how a 59 Les Paul should be played, listen to Gary Moore playing the Messiah will come again live at Montreux.
Fenders rule, but les pauls are nice too.
Carmelita Skiffle!
there you are my friend!
+AleGibsonSG there you are again! Wanna pay 50/50 for that burst?
+That smelly guy on the train that's probably one of the most gorgeous bursts I have ever seen. Love that Firebird too. Well, paying 50/50 would cause me a lot of problems Lol. Can anyone please tell me what chord/chord shape Jimmy Vivino plays at 3:00?
Looks like an E major barre chord on top four strings.
It's not but I have figured out the fingering for it. Still not sure the name of the chord though, some kind of weird E Maj7
Oops, E6, with C# on B string.
i will not always say "hi heisenberg" to you!
@3:37 SHOW SOME RESPECT

He's running a business not a charity . Norm loves money as much as guitars I'm sure .
......wasn't vintage......and it still sounded good .......so vintage .....whatever
Love the blues. Tired of the blues.
this white boy can play the blues. he has been able to play since he was a boy. Joe is the real deal. Probably the best alive, yeah even better than Clapton, nobody can touch him, really
Better than Clapton? I guess it's all preference. Joe can play for sure but I never really "feel" his playing if you know what I mean. Claptons playing sends shivers down my spine. I've never had anything even kind of from Joe
way better than Clapton IMO but its still fucking Clapton
he was better than most his 1st few years playing i guess it came to him very easy even with the hours im sure he put in learning
Great way of putting it. So true.
bobby redondo there are so many great blues legends still alive who destroy Joe.
He seems to know the pentatonic scale at least
I love joe . But the Super rich have left the rest of us working class people with noses pressed against the Glass of the Guitar Store Window.
I once owned a very average mid 90s Les Paul but I know il die now without ever owning another. Upside . You can get a killer Epiphone for realistic price .
SLOW DOWN JOE TO FAST SLOW DOWN AND PLAY SUM REAL BLUES
....yea ....I'm tired of hearing 59 Les Paul blah blah .....I'm sure Les Paul himself played a 59 Les Paul at some point and time .....in 1959 .....when a 59

He can certainly play but it feels generic. He just doesn't do it for me.
Something's not quite right when he plays. He's certainly better than most of us could ever hope to be, but nothing stands out, and some licks seem hurried. Totally different than someone like Johnny Hiland where everything seems just right.
That's probably the best description of Joe's playing. He seems like a real good guy and he can sing, but he's nothing special.
More overrated joe,lol
