Love when he does these. He seems like a great guy. All that talent still seems down to earth. I thought he was kind of a savant at first when younger. Watching things like this seems like a guy you fought have a beer with
Me: Identifies as a lifelong guitar player...not quite sure if I understand the full pentatonic scale but still spend unhealthy amounts of time looking at gear. Joe: Professional musician since age 11, has essentially his own rare collection museum...understands the pentatonic scale.
The tendency for players to be jealous of Joe is extremely high. The house seems to be divided. I'm happy for Joe myself. I would collect more Strats & Marshalls myself. But I do love a good LP. I have a SmartWood, and I love, love, Love It!!!!
Wow Joe really knows his shit with guitars. I'm quite blown away. He his knowledge and passion for guitar knowledge is close to his guitar ability. I realized I know nothing (or really very little) about guitars after watching this.
Gotta love Joe, I'd love to hang out for a day with him, he will go down in history as one of , if not the greatest blues guy, Love his story (actually stories), and they continue to write themselves.
When I was in high school in the late 70's, Standards sold for 350 and Customs went for 450, give or take. Wish I'd have stashed away a bunch of them... The old sunburst models were going for ridiculous prices of $5-7K. Nowadays, some of these reissues go for 2-4 times that... I'm sure 50 years from now, the reissues will be selling in the 6-7 figures also. I don't even want to guess what a real '59 will be selling for and how much will guitars played by Page, Gibbons, and Moore sell for? Great project Joe, I'll bet whoever winds up with that guitar is gonna love it, I just hope they play it!
A lot of those 70s Gbisons are poorly made. Guitars are meant to be played by players; how can I afford one of these LPs? They're a crazy price for what they are. And the more expensive the guitar, the less it will be played. Sad, really.
Videos like this are why Joe Bonamassa is one of the best guitar players in the world. He's always at the top of his game even at leisure. He probably dreams out new riffs to write while sleeping! Love ya Joe Bonamassa and Kenny Wayne Shepherd! You guys put the nut smashin' cowboy boot in the USA ass whoppin'! 'Merica!!
I just watched Joes new video about the master class he's peddling? It's not like I need to buy it,but I'll be damned if I didn't comment that I thought he was playing a "gold top"..5:48," if you saw me on social media you would think I was playing a gold top". The man is one step ahead of me even in my own brain LOL
He's literally doing this for charity and all of ya'll are still talking shit. Lol, joe is the man and one of the best blues player ever. Thank you joe for keeping the blues alive.
7:20 Yep. Greeny is 8lbs 15oz (9lbs if it had a pick guard and it would have been slightly over 9lbs when new) and Skinnerburst being 9lbs 4oz as Joe's favorite les paul he's ever played, it's hilarious how the weight weenie trend has gotten out of hand. I briefly bought into it and purchased a featherweight custom shop LP and it wasn't for me. I've been through hundreds of Les Pauls to find my ideal and it ended up being 9.01lb R9 that I even prefer over a $15k brazilian, old wood boutique 59 replica I owned. In any case, just find a guitar that speaks to you and enjoy it without worrying about guidelines someone made up online.
great video, Yea Gibson Glad to see this,, have always known Gibson made for order Les-Pauls but I forgot, and not all the dealers have the templates Guitar Center does not have template's
They never seem to get the carving of the top right on the recreations. The originals were hand carved. I guess you really need a sculptor to get all the contours correct and the price would be a fortune.
I really like Joe...he's a great player, but it annoys the hell out of me how he keeps interrupting that guy! I know we're here to watch Joe but let the man speak for Christ's sake!
Jason oh no i really dont see it that way, hes a collectionneur who knows his stuff and loves talking about it and i feel like he knows his luck and try to share his personnal experience with others fanatics who might never own a vintage instrument. Weather you feel like a vibtage instrument is special or not dosent give you the right to critisize someone who thinks otherwise
OK I really appreciate Gibson offering this build to order thing. very cool. are we gonna a do it with 335 too? on another topic....they selected the wood based on look....what about resonance properties? some luthier guys tap the wood to find the one that rings best. come on Joe.... don't you think that matters? it's all about the tone.....
Revelry 1969 I kind of agree. It is certainly a wonderful thing to be able to spec a guitar which looks like the vintage guitar you love. However, creating a guitar with similar sonic qualities would really take it into a different league IMO.
Mister Knight Owl - I'm not saying tapping it is going to give you the best idea of how it will end up sounding, but if you think wood doesn't make much difference, either your ears are failing you or you simply haven't had enough hands-on experience with vintage guitars. Period. I've played 3 masterfully built Les Pauls with original PAFs and several 50s Les Pauls and they simply don't sound the same. Even my 1960 Gibson Melody Maker sounds almost nothing like the new ones. Personally, I'd only consider spending this kind of cash if I could source some old-growth mahogany.
This is NOT a critique, but a real question from a bass player that fancies having a 6 string around. After watching the video and reading some comments, I would appreciate some advice. In terms of sound, given the fact that it seems a player adds pedals, amps, speakers, the neck, and last but not least... their unique fingering technic, how much does the weight and body/top material really play in the sound? Or is it mainly play a part in sustain? I did find on my LP purchase, that the guitar burst is significantly darker once it arrived, so it seems like building a custom on-line verses hitting up one of these special stores could cause some heartburn. Also, it seems that the neck plays more of a role of whether I keep a guitar around or not. Thanks for any advice you folks can throw my way.
Kenneth Taylor neck has to be comfortable first otherwise you obviously can’t play it without hurting yourself and you probably would shy away from it if you kept it. The body needs to be comfortable too. If you’re going to be standing and it’s really heavy it might bother you after a few hours. To me, the biggest thing about how an electric sounds are the pick ups. But what amp are you using affects it, pedals and even gauge of the string. But string gauge can be fixed by messing with the bass, mids and treble settings on your amp and a distortion pedal if you’re using one. My first pick would be for sound pick ups. Second make sure you’re comfortable. The wood re: electrics only don’t seem to matter to me as much. Forgot to say depending on the genre of music u play, if your going to be bending strings make sure it doesn’t feel too stiff, so neck length and again string gauge again come into play. You can get a shorter scale like Gibson or tune down or use thinner strings. You play bass so u probably aren’t bending strings like a 6 string guitarist. Blues and rock guys bend a lot. And make sure your actions nice and low. No buzzing. Unless you want to fight with the guitar. But remember your hands may wear out over many years of bending strings etc. you’re a bassist so I’m sure you know a lot of this already. I’m also a year late to this post. Just saw it.
On a electric guitar wood doesn't really matter. Tone comes from pickups, pots, string type and your hands. There are a bunch of videos on RUclips debunking tonewood.
Thank you for saying about the wait I had a 80s Artisan two pick up and it weighed a ton and I loved it and I've been searching for ever since so if anybody out there reads this in the Nashville area and has a two pick up black Les Paul artisan with the 3rd dot Missing on the inlay you'll know what I mean if you have it contact me I want to buy it back ;)
Brandon Cash The guy is in a genre of music that gets zero radio play and almost no media attention. There is no "record industry " anymore. These guys have to tour like crazy and promote themselves like crazy. Kudos to him for creating some brand recognition for himself and keeping the blues alive! I've seen him 3 times and he's amazing.
Yea. I understand that; however, we have the black fuzz, the copper fuzz, overrated special (500 units? Yea right), wah, fet driver, speaker simulator, multiple guitars, and at least one amp. The guy is talented and probably the one of best around but the self promotion is getting old to me. Thanks to RUclips and other media outlets, more people know who Bonamassa is than you think.
YES, How, "CONVENIENT" THAT, THE MAHOGANY, USED FOR ALL..50'S , GIBSON'S ...WAS, HONDURAN, A...MUCH , LIGHTER, &, WAY MORE, RESONANT & ( POROUS ), SOO, WHEN DRIED, LESS,WEIGHT!! ....ALSO, NOT, AVAILABLE...BRAZILIAN ROSEWOOD (BECAUSE OF, OBAMAS, " LACY ACT "....[LOOK IT UP ] !! , & , MOST , IMPORTANTLY, THE " REAL" GIBSON'S, [ PRE- ROBOT, SAME AS, CHINA] !! , HAND MADE, ..."LET THE WOOD, DRINK" ...GLUE, &, RE- APPLY, &, THERE IS ,N O , MORE , LUTHIER'Y....[ LOOK IT UP], INVOLVED IN GIBSON, ANYMORE. Daaam, I'am , GLAD TO OWN THE ,REAL, THANG..!! HA, HA, .....
Daniel Calvo you do realize gibson had wood illegally smuggled into the country which is why they got raided js the lacey act has been around for a long time and its amended for a reason
yeah but so did fender...it was all a politics game because gibsons CEO was republican...its been said over and over again. they all smuggled woods, still do, and always will. if people can smuggle coke and heroin, they can smuggle fucking woods.
Phil Avon the big difference is that gibson lied to consumers and also made fake wood to resemble rosewood etc they would iron and heat wood and fretboards to make them look like quality wood and old fashioned wood but it was all completely faked. sadly gibson sold it as high end expensive gear which added to their lawsuits and constant watch. fender didnt fake wood or sell cheap made knocked off wood at high prices. i love gibson a lot but just like so many big companies you are gonna have shady stuff
Revelry 1969 you cant tell how a peice of wood will resonate until the guitar is finished. Its like putting water in a glass. It will constantly change as you add or subtract liquid, or move the glass. By the time you glue the neck on, CNC for pickups, and electronics, finish and laquers the body, and add string tension, the piece of wood will resonate completely different.
I would love to see a LP with all roasted woods. I built a Tele with a roasted maple neck that was awesome. Big dark flamed maple that needed cream inlays to be seen. I miss it.
Cool idea to bad only doctors or lawyers will be able to afford it, it has simulated bigsby mounting holes just like Joe's, that'll be an extra $2500 just for the special holes!
Darren Doxey suhr , Anderson, G&L, Charvel Custom Shop, Guthrie Govan, Steve Morse, Mark knopfler, Warmoth, and every one who don't want to refret every 4/5 years ;)
Does anyone else find flametops tacky? I’m really not a fan. I know it’s all subjective but there’s just so many cool guitars I wouldn’t buy because of the flame. Like 9 out of 10 PRS’s are flame
I've always picked the heaviest Les Pauls, SGs and Stratocasters I could find. I've gone through ten or more before until I found the heaviest one. Joe probably got it from the same person I did at around the same time.......Mr. Eric Clapton!
That’s your opinion. I have a 70s custom that is heavy as hell and I actually hate it. I also have a 2016 Standard that has weight relief and I love it. I wonder how many of these people that Love these heavy Les Pauls actually gig with them and hold them for hours every night? Probably not many.
That is very personal, I played many solid les paul's and owning a chambered on witch sounds better that most of them, much more fibrent, sustain enz...So, it's all in the taste i guess and disagree with you. chrz.
Ohh how I wish I could own one. But on veterans affairs pension from army can't work again. I live in Australia. I just want a joe Bonamassa LEs Paul so much. Army pension not that great. But how cool to own one to play. Good luck I couldn't afford to be in the auction. One day I'm 45 might run out of time.
Funny thing about guitar players is they really get stupid with the details of the instrument in terms of materials, years, authenticity, etc. no one else really cares. Especially the people who want to see you perform. Perhaps today more so because I can imagine that around 50% of people who come out to watch JB are guitarists themselves but back in the golden era of guitar rock from the 50-80s, most people didn't know and didn't care. They just came to see a show. That 20-something year old blonde who's at the bar/club who's watching you play (if "kids" even listen to this anymore) doesn't really give a shit about whether your headstock says Epiphone or Gibson, they don't even know or care let alone what year it is. All they know is whether you're good and do you look good while doing it and...are you popular above all. Talent can take a sidestep for that.
Total fucking nerd!! I love it. Ha. Good stuff. I wish I could choose like this? I play what I can afford like most poorhouse folks. Its all good though. Cheers.
I really like Joe too but now I see why he's a solo artist....he doesn't like to share the stage nor the screen or the spotlight. Poor kid, wish he had just sent it home instead of being shut off constantly....that was rude.
yr doing a project to advertise yrself thats why youre on video talking about what you want and no "charitable" people are on video talking about what they want lolll nice ad Gibson
Paul Willis i think he's referring to the serial number of the guitar! When he said "1948" im pretty sure he's referring to the last 4 digits of the serial number
No guitar is worth six figures, it's ridiculous. Thee are so many good guitars hanging on walls or on display somewhere; take them out and play them. Guitars are meant to be played. It's great that Slash can afford 70 or 80 Les Pauls, but instead of hoarding them, Joe and Slash and others should give or lend their spares to up-and-coming guitarists. What exactly is the point of owning a dozen or so guitars, all the same make; and don't say they all sound different, pick a few that you think are the best. Giving names to guitars, other than descriptive ones, is pretty silly; sorry BB.
Love when he does these. He seems like a great guy. All that talent still seems down to earth. I thought he was kind of a savant at first when younger. Watching things like this seems like a guy you fought have a beer with
Bonamassa's knowledge of Gibson guitars is unparalleled.🎸
Me: Identifies as a lifelong guitar player...not quite sure if I understand the full pentatonic scale but still spend unhealthy amounts of time looking at gear.
Joe: Professional musician since age 11, has essentially his own rare collection museum...understands the pentatonic scale.
Just when you think you know a lot about guitars then you hear Joe talk, lol.
The tendency for players to be jealous of Joe is extremely high. The house seems to be divided. I'm happy for Joe myself. I would collect more Strats & Marshalls myself. But I do love a good LP. I have a SmartWood, and I love, love, Love It!!!!
Love the entire concept especially donating the $ to charity 👍 🎸 CLASS ACT!
Wow Joe really knows his shit with guitars. I'm quite blown away. He his knowledge and passion for guitar knowledge is close to his guitar ability. I realized I know nothing (or really very little) about guitars after watching this.
I’m building a 59 replica right now so thank you RUclips algorithm you actually worked for once
I like that Joe has two persons inside him, one is the super ocd the other is whogivesashat. Really funny guy.
Am I the only one who was curious about the result guitar?
leonardokula no.
Going to every pawnshop ever, pawnshop tour, devoting my life from now onn

The intro riff is so good!!!
xchump saw him live in Toronto people literally went crazy when that kicked in.

I love how these guitars get names as they age and the names stick. no renaming
You pick the top, you pick the neck, you sell your house to pay for it.
😂
"- We can make it light weight...

- I was saying we can d....
- Oh look Tommy again!"
"Pickup rings don't sound..." Most accurate 1959 description :)
I have a made to measure from 2014, the quality of wood selection is top notch. Nicest flame top I've ever seen on a Les Paul!
Yea, kyle, ....LOOKS ! , HOW MANY ....REAL, ONES HAVE YOU, OWNED, /PLAYED.....&, GIge'd with.....?.....
Daniel Calvo owned seven, played dozens.
If you don't mind me asking, about how much did you pay? I would love to do this at some point. Picking my own top would be sweet.
Kudos Joe & Matt…both great guys & damn good players!
He's literally doing this for charity and all of ya'll are still talking shit. Lol, joe is the man and one of the best blues player ever. Thank you joe for keeping the blues alive.
Jaron Yancey yu are an idiot this is an ad for Gibson and this dbag.. Corps do fake charity to get advertising and pr attention all the time dumshit
Pick any body you want - as long as it is this one

Remember I was THRILLED when I got the JB Clock! I'm going to order 2 more Charm Bracelets after New Year's! Happy New Year's Eve Eve
Joe Bonamassa - the Nickelback of blues
otasty You're a fucking idiot who knows nothing about taste.
otasty ... go listen to Kanye West!
otasty! LMFAO I guess you like lil wayne's guitar solos better?
Otasty, the Kanye West of RUclips viewers.
great video, Yea Gibson Glad to see this,, have always known Gibson made for order Les-Pauls but I forgot, and not all the dealers have the templates Guitar Center does not have template's
Love this guy...It is sooo fun, when Take the guitars look like a maniac 😂....great!!! Love from italy!!
what a cool concept..if I had some extra bread laying around, I'd definitely be hooking myself up with my own CS 59 burst.
why is the dude even there ? :D Joe educating everybody with Les Paul nerding :D
7:06 min is a great example. The Gibson guy wants to say something about ultra-lightweight, but... Nope.
Jacob Heidel yepp, thats too bad. I really wanted to hear what he had to say.
I wish they would have talked about the hardware, especially the pickups!
Wow...that escalated quickly.
Great Jason thanks, but nobody cares.
LOL...ha, really escalated VERY quickly !! I think little Jason is jealous of Joe's toys :)
i think joe feel like a child there, thats because..
Matt has a wealth of knowledge AND is a damn nice guy !!
joe let the dude talk please
Dannyboy \m/ 😂😂😂😂😂
I'm here to listen to Joe, not the interviewer. Some people are not happy unless they can whine about something.
Someone is passionate about geetars... Fun to watch btw.
I can't stop measuring my guitar
love joe.
Garage Story why? he's a total douchbag.
Did we even need that young star struck custom shop guy in the video?
j Niespodziani no
Probably an actor.
yes
Is there an epiphone version?
not now i guess
"Somebody take this guitar away because I'm about to make a ridiculously low offer on it"
anthony silva lol. I'm wondering why Joe doesn't by buy it if he likes it so much.

Mister Night Owl, do not make douche comments ― and ― please go away.
Why are the tops 2 pieces rather than one? Can they not get planks that wide? I think it looks silly with it not matching at the join.
Joe Bonamassa knows more about Gibson than Gibson
Gibson the Gene Simmons of guitars

sound likes the guitar which is used in early whitesnake album
Why did you sell the claw?
I thought I was alone when I noticed that the heaviest Les Pauls tend to produce the most resonance and deeper tone colors.
Oh wow. Bonamassa putting his name on something else.
At least he is giving to charity though.
Brandon Cash The guy is in a genre of music that gets zero radio play and almost no media attention. There is no "record industry " anymore. He's GIVING the money away!! It's called CHARITY!! How much have you given away??
i dont care to hear what the gibson rep says. joe could sell ice cubes to an eskimo. he knows his shit.
Do the Gibson still make M2M guitars? Cheers
when is the guitar finished
Why not do the skiner if you’re going to bring the skiner and specs stuffs over it
Are you giving away any new guitars..?
I could listen to Joe talking about guitars even he talked in Japanese....
at what price?
A AAA flame top is only about £150, they must mark up the price like crazy
Can you order a one piece top?
The only bummer is the mahogany - I wouldn't be as put off by the price if I could get some old-growth because it really does make all the difference.

So a lovely men
seems like you should select the top and body that ring good....ya know?

holy crap let the guy talk
Where´s the finished guitar?
Those decapitated headstocks in the back freak me out, man
☺
Yeah... not going to buy a Gibson anytime soon.
Joe's awesome.
They should torrefy these woods
I would love to see a LP with all roasted woods. I built a Tele with a roasted maple neck that was awesome. Big dark flamed maple that needed cream inlays to be seen. I miss it.
It seems like Joe likes to talk about guitars.
Does Joe still own Batman? the 1960 burst
Cool idea to bad only doctors or lawyers will be able to afford it, it has simulated bigsby mounting holes just like Joe's, that'll be an extra $2500 just for the special holes!
Made to measure... BUT NO STAINLESS STEEL FRETS?!
I'm not Bonamassa, I don't have the money to spend $400 every 3-4 years for a refret!
Stainless frets?? Gibson never does that...
dude, who the hell puts stainless steel frets in a guitar? no thanks
Darren Doxey suhr , Anderson, G&L, Charvel Custom Shop, Guthrie Govan, Steve Morse, Mark knopfler, Warmoth, and every one who don't want to refret every 4/5 years ;)
Stainless Steel I'll stick to being a traditionalist. I know evh used em and uses them in his guitars.
playing like 5 times in a week for 9 years with same gibson sg and no fret problems here.
well look at Joe building a guitar with Johnny Knoxville's little brother.
never saw a video with the final history of it...
funny what Joe says about the photos vs the real thing when people are spending 10, 20 or more grand on a guitar they have only ever seen in pictures.
Does anyone else find flametops tacky? I’m really not a fan. I know it’s all subjective but there’s just so many cool guitars I wouldn’t buy because of the flame. Like 9 out of 10 PRS’s are flame
this dude does not want to be there and probably wants to punch JB in the face
Heavy is good. Weight relief and chambering bad
7:06 stop interrupting him!
Joe can't hold himself when it comes on discussing guitars....lol!
Step 8 get a mortgage
what a great great player.... but please, let the other guy talk.
Poor kid, can't get a word in edge-wise 😂
the guy's silence......really cringe it up....LOL
Total fucking nerd!! I love it. Ha. Good stuff. I wish I could choose like this? I play what I can afford like most poorhouse folks. Its all good though. Cheers.
so the previous owner who owned snakebite found it in a pawn shop for $700 bucks. fuck my life.
Johnny Knoxville apparently works for Gibson
No future in comedy for you.
When's Gibson gonna make a Justin Bieber or Taylor Swift model. Perhaps a Jonas Brothers model? They'd go for billions.
I have a 16lb fake les paul
Came across as very obnoxious here. Not good.
joe como musico sos muy buen comerciante!!! dedícate a eso!! a vender guitarras.
I really like Joe too but now I see why he's a solo artist....he doesn't like to share the stage nor the screen or the spotlight. Poor kid, wish he had just sent it home instead of being shut off constantly....that was rude.
If you spend big bucks for one of these, you need to question your sanity. Way too much money for a Les Paul. And I've had many and two right now.
What are the prices for a made to order? About the same as a r9?
I wish he would quit using "absolutions" incorrectly. It means "to forgive". The word he wants is "absolutes".
I've never even seen a vintage les Paul, let alone played 100 of them.....hence I now hate Joe !
yr doing a project to advertise yrself thats why youre on video talking about what you want and no "charitable" people are on video talking about what they want lolll nice ad Gibson
Why does Joe keep saying 40s; meaning, of course, 50s. Stop doing it, Joe. It's irritating and wrong!
