My favorite thing in 40k is when Un-augmented humans are so badass that they see Astartes and think: Yeah I can take those guys. Bonus points if they actually do beat the Astartes.
Nowadays, theres no more solar auxilia but theres still tempestus scions and regimental stormtroopers like kasrkin or krieg grenadiers
These dudes, if underestimated, can kill marines efficiently. The surprise of the chaos marine when he finds out that the bulky flashlight held by a stormtrooper can actually pierce his armour and cook him in it!
Only thing better than a Marine dying in a story is a Custodes.
Especially true in 40k where any chaos space marines are even more powerful and experienced.

To be fair, he IS several of them.
I feel he's far too overblown, cool character and all, but if the emperor needed mars luna and terrans greatest minds to make the astartes and weapons, why can cawl do it without support from mars? I know everyone believes it was well explained, but even blue primarch couldn't have set it all up? Why do I smell contrivances? I'm not against more tech, clearly because I prefer 30k crusade era over 40k, but even I smell bull.

He's not Fabricator-General, but Imperial politics would be a distraction from technical work, and he's still massively influential within the Mechanicus proper. Dude has his own battleship; he was clearly not working under material constraints.
It's also worth pointing out how mind-crushingly long ten thousand years is. The Roman Empire is closer to the present day than ten thousand years ago is to the start of recorded history.

I think ten thousands years is a decent argument to explain it. Cawl has been working on this for that long.
I assume the emperor could have done what he did in a hundred years, perhaps even just ten, but cawl had ten thousands years to get workin’
@@FlyingNinjaish a lot of machanicus have their own ships as well as 1000 marines having a good four, five ships along with forge and logistics. So that still doesn't explain that. Even if he was a big player, why did the machanicus let it happen? Did girlyman also plan for the nuts that the machanicus would become? Why wouldn't the inquisition help or stop him? Did they also know and get orders that never existed before cawls book? Why would the brilliant cawl wait for girlyman? Why would brilliant cawl not just betray the imperium? Why would brilliant cawl not just fix all the gene seeds? Why do they still have flaws? And why would they hide it from Astartes, why not just integrate it into Astartes from the get go instead of bringing untrained and uninitiated? Is this all explained by Cawl being the smartest ever? Even the emperor wasn't a good father? So how the fuck did Cawl achieve everything here without being burnt to death? I hate to have to read a book I already know makes no sense in lore. I already know Corvus achieved it before cawl, but Cawl gets all the acknowledgement, fact given by how hard they're pushing this one genius... Honestly sounds like a Mary Sue, but people are so bloody blind that they think time makes it make sense? You do realise, the emperor needed help from chaos god's, who knows how far back the emperor had planned this(this would fit in fine as we know the emperor is 50k years or older). It's not that the emperor is better it's the fact that this ONE person made everything better that the emperor and mars did? Can one person no matter how smart make a difference in this type of universe, no the simple answer is no the long answer is that cawl is a Mary Sue.

Volkites are my fav space Tolkien weapon. GW really making a mistaking not pushing more solar Aux in 30k and expanding them into 40k.
If I recall correctly, the Solar Auxilia sculpts and rules were the passion project of a Forgeworld designer who passed away, and the GW saw greater profitability in the Space Marines.

Honestly I want to see a return of the solar aux in 40k, as an additional boon of the Imperium that, despite suffering terrible blows (Cadia, Cicatrix) is able to reform itself ever so slowly into a titan capable of facing the new threats bearing on it.

You missed the Volkite Macro-Accelerator, this was a Volkite weapon found only in the Flagship of the Emperor, the Imperium Somnia.
It is a battleship level Volkite Weapon and by the 30th millenium it was the last of its kind.
I thought the Emperor's vessel was the Bucephelus?

I love Volkite weapons, I would love for Guard to get them back again. I am glad Primaris Marines get the pistols, they are a blast on the table top. Thanks for making this video!

Not as much of a blast as Plasma weapons, so thats good.
Hopefully new releases will help. Solar Auxilia is a badass formation, Guilliman should know the value of it.

@@DeinosCZ Well duh. Clearly he either just found some old STC or else he committed some of that good old tech heresy to reinvent stuff. He's old enough to remember pre-heresy culture so "invention" is not as absurd to him as it is to the rest of the Mechanicum. I don't think he could actually outdo the Emperor (OMG such heresy) but since the big E is not doing much inventing as of late, being number 2 in inventing skill is fine.
That said he is also still quite talented and an awesome character and I hope to see more of him.

Vulkite Weapons was a staple of the Imperial Army and the Space Marines Legions which were used to destroy any enemy of mankind, and the conquest of so many worlds were brought by these weapons into compliance. Vulkite weaponry are absolutely valuable to the forces of the Imperium for its power and sheer usage was truly missed after the Horus Heresy for the ground forces of the Imperium would have benefited from these weapons.
Plot armor and balancing for other sides. That is why see inventions and improvements rarely in Wh40k . That is how they made it grim dark and medieval style.

I always imagined them to be similar to the weapons the maritans use in 'Mars attacks'. Where upon striking the target they burst into flames leaving only a skeleton behind. Obviously the movie is rather comical to what the real spectacle would be

My Chapter, the Iron Consuls of the Xth, runs a ton of them. Both house rules and codex compliant builds. Anti flesh, explosion weapons. Makes for great Xenos purging
100's Space Marine's died and the firepower from Vulkite weaponry so thick, the armor melted together, sealing the 80 meter hole they crawled out from and creating a lava dome of steel that would make a Deamon smile.
That little part at the end was Cawl 100% that is exactly some thing he would say and I love it.

I love Volkite weapons, their aesthetic and effect are just awesome. My headcanon for the Aurora Chapter is that they have several Fellblades gifted to them by Guillimen when the legions were split into chapters and they're well maintained because Firestorm is supposedly this super forge world.

Oh, Volkite Weaponry...
I had an encounter with one at the hands of an inquisitor at the end of my first session of dark heresy.
It was an impressive scene - the psyker, his actions having led to the success of the mission, stopping a greater demon of khorne from manifesting, knew what had happened to him, knew what began to amplify his powers halfway through the mission. Warp Parasites. Demons.
He asked the Inquisitor for a moment to take a last drink from his flask of vodka.
The Inquisitor nodded and the Psyker drank, half of it, than gave the bottle to the grim demon hunter.
He closed his eyes. A bright flash, and it was over - his head erupting into flame and glowing ash.
The Inquisitor still carries that flask with him.
That evening, I asked my Game Master what the name of that weapon was - at times, my memory can be a bit unreliable. He answered, and I took the dive - the dive into the grim darkness of the far future. I read about tech, I read about space marines, about chaos, then about Xenos. I stumbled over Astartes and TTS, then about Majorkill, Luetin and Auspex Tactics. I discovered the Orks for myself, a faction I feel deeply connected too, for they share my main motivation - that being fun. I now own round about 1000 points of orks, but I don't intend on stopping anytime soon - I am just a very slow and deliberate painter, and can happily invest a hundred hours into one mob of ork boyz. Than, while searching for more lore on my very favourite piece of wargear, the Shokk Attakk Gun, I found your channel. I watched your kronan videos, and then many more - and now, I am watching this video, on the very weapon that has started this little adventurous journey of mine.
What a delight.
For me, it's the fact the inquisitor kept the flask even after burning your character to ash.

I loved volkite weapons the moment I heard of what they did. They’re essentially a plasma beam rifle and flamethrower rolled into one weapon. For me it’s the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup of Warhammer armaments. Two of my favorite things melded into one.
Throw the heretics on the barbecue by incinerating them with a rifle that shoots a concentrated beam of artificial starlight.
Ah... my daily dose of Lord Baldemort. No matter how short, it is always uplifting.
Volkite weaponry has also made a small resurgence in the armaments of the questor traitoris, as the new Knight Abominant is armed with the volkite combustor, and it is a devastating piece of wargear capable of putting holes in tanks like they were made of wax. Next to meltas, volkite has become something of a favorite delete button for me when the ruinous powers smile on my dice rolls.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE whenever mortals clown on the astartes. Think base-line humans are useless in war? They can't move as fast or take as much of a hit? Doesnt matter if you get hit with heavy weapons. That scared teenager with a plasma gun that took 2 months to train can take out a super soldier that took DECADES of training to produce.
Can? Yes. Will? Probably not. There's a reason the super soldiers exist, and you know full well what it is.
Love Volkite and Plasma weapons myself.
The Voltann are supposed to have a good number of these. Looking forward to getting some wargear stats.
Ahhh, my favourite 40K weapon! Closest thing you get to a burny ray gun. Doesn't get more science fiction than this! Fulgrim's sidearm of choice (prior to turning scaly) was a Volkite/Vulkite Charger. Bit bigger than a Serpenta but sure it means more burny fun. Burny Burny!!!!

Thank you for giving for the Iron Hands credit. The Iron Hands and Dark Angels were either destroyed or too far away respectively to play a major role in the Heresy. Their greatest accomplishments are unfortunately off screen in the Great Crusade.

I wonder if it is just a more powerful laser, cause it sounds like it, a mini lasscannon is you will. Is there any other way to get heat without much loss over a good hundred meters?
@@tarektechmarine8209 infrared laser perhaps? Microwave laser or maser? Alternatively a beam of some made up particle that doesn’t interact with normal matter much, but rapidly decomposes into photons of the correct wavelength to be optimally absorbed by water?

What do you people think is the range of a volkite, it's clearly far less than that of a bolter by at least 1.5km but it's not an actual laser weapon, but is a thermal beam? So cuts through armour like butter and burns flesh to ash but is also very expensive and resource heavy to field.
Bolters are effective at ranges >1.5km?
@@doomguy9049 modern day 20mm have a 2.5km effective range and up to 5km max. Take an Apache 30mm(about heavy bolter size) chain gun, it can hit targets 3km away with a dispersion area of a car from center of the target. That was 20years ago.
I´d say it might be similiar to a lasgun, as in depending on the atmosphere it´s fired in.

I absolutely adore these things, I think they're a great addition to the setting (Or settingS, really), but I'm getting a little tired of the honestly quite lazy writing of just 'Everything's Cawl, all Cawl, all the time, because he's just. That. Good'. Let him lead a team of handpicked techno geniuses from across all the galaxy's forgeworlds or something, some more interesting mechanicus characters to explore rather than just "Yep, that was me. And that. All of those, too. And that. I'm great", like he's walking around with a shard of the Emperor AND the void dragon inside him.

I’m an Imperium man through and through but there is something so very satisfying about the all-powerful, be-all-end-all marines getting put in their place. Especially by an inferior and prepared enemy.
Solar auxilia might be physically inferior, but they are true warriors and soldiers. They fought much of the same threats that marines did, without genetic enhancements and power armour.
Once again my irk with Cawl and his Primaris.
I definitely would love to have, instead, Guard getting access to volkites as like one per regiment or something like that. A rare relic from HH for them to access rather than havi my bloated marines.

I believe Volkites were first used by xenos believed native to mars durning their invasion of terra in the 2nd millennium that were only defeated via use of widespread sonic weapons 😜
