It's likely in due to maintaining the ideal jaw structure, and facial structure of the person, in line. It'll naturally shift on its own too, overtime, with the other molars moving around. *I'm no pro, but from my own observations of my braces' treatment, and experience of them, as well as reading, it's what I concluded onto. :)
Hi Jess, brackets are sometimes not placed on the last back teeth because it is harder to keep them on. This is because it's hard to keep the mouth dry back there for the glue to work, chewing forces are higher back there and they are less visible so less likely to be a concern for patients. Placing braces on them can sometimes lead to open bites at the front also. Hope this helps!
That’s horrible. It’s always nice to know what they’re doing to us. I tend to ask lots of questions ☺️ they might not like it but hey I’m paying for it.

@@N1CK1M1N4J hey b!! I still have my braces on but I’m at the end of my treatment. I decided to get composite bonding done on the peg laterals and have had them for 4 months now. I had the option to either get composite bonding then keep on the braces to close any spaces (which is what I chose) or to finish my treatment then get veneers after. I had some bad-looking veneers on before my braces because i broke my front teeth. I got lingual braces so that the brackets didn't have to attach to the veneers. Then when my teeth were straight, I did what you said and whitened them then got new better veneers. The veneers looked a lot better because the orthodontist put my teeth in a good place so they fit in properly with the adjacent ones, and the colour matches perfectly to my teeth at their whitest. You can't tell they're not my natural teeth! I'm really happy with them.
Great breakdown! I'm wearing aligners now and was wondering what would be my next step for my peg laterals...veneers or composite bonding. This was all great information to know ahead of my cosmetic consult.
I first heard "peg laterals" in my teens by a dentist. I'm 32 currently undergoing Invisalign treatment. With adjustment of my teeth, I can clearly notice my lateral incisors are smaller than the rest of my other teeth. I'm definitely considering veneers once I'm done with Invisalign. 🦷😁 Thanks so much for the thorough information in this video, Dr. Greg! I am now a subscriber!! ❤️

I had my 2nd consultation yesterday and this orthodontist told me I had peg laterals. I'd never heard of it, and the first orthodontist never mentioned how my having peg laterals may not close the gaps on the sides with braces. That's my primary reason for getting braces in the first place. Orthodontist 1 was pushing me hard for Invisilign (which I firmly said no to several times) and Orthodontist 2 told me Invisilign wouldn't have given me the results I was looking for anyway. Thanks again Dr. Greg for your informative videos.

Hi Dr. Greg I really enjoy your explainer videos as they are really amusing and interesting to me. I was wondering if you could possibly do a video on the surgical correction of an under/crossbite. I am meant to get it done within a year. I currently have a quad-helix expander and will get braces shortly before my surgical procedure.
Can you talk about implants? I get my braces off on my birthday and just had bone grafting last week and will be getting implants soon! I’m excited because the bone grafting fixed my midline sooooo perfectly!
I had braces for almost 4 years as an adult. I had to wear a bite plane for almost 2 years without braces on the bottom because the orthodontist thought I would bite the brackets off. Unfortunately the spaces were not closed so my orthodontist gave me an appliance called Simply 5. That didn’t work so I was given Invisalign. When all of that was done my teeth were torqued so far back in my mouth, I had to have my gums cut back and then got veneers placed. Now my teeth are pushed back into my mouth and I have to see a real cosmetic dentist to fix everything.
Wow…now I know I could get my braces put on my peg lateral and get my cosmetic done afterwards…This had mee stressing, thinking if I could get my braces THX… this video just made mee feel freee!!

I can't afford anymore work right now. And I have peg lateral incisors.
Hi doc, you have an amazing channel. I'm a 5th year dental student and I've been always interested in orthodontics and I'm looking for a topic for my graduation project. If you could just give me a few ideas about a topic i'll be glad. Thank you!
I have peg laterals. I just started Invisalign. I had braces but had movement from not wearing my retainer and I’m still unhappy with the shape of my teeth. So I’m on my journey to realigning and then getting either veneers or bonding.
Hey Dr. Greg! Do the veneers overtime need to be maintained? Won't it cost more money in the long run when you have to maintain and up keep them? And at what age is too young for veneers? Are there other options instead of veneers for the peg lateral incisors?
This video is so helpful, thank you. I have 15 year old composite veneers one my peglaterals, which were done badly to match my crooked teeth. Now I have braces, and I plan to have my peglaterals redone with porcelain veneers at the end of my braces treatment. I am get to see if I’ll need gals like on your example in this video. I won’t mind, as long as my teeth are in the right spots and look beautiful at the end 😁
my questions for you: if you have clear retainers are they supposed to be pushed down all the way? if you’re wearing clear retainers are you supposed to be able to bite down all the way? are you supposed to be able to gag while wearing clear retainers?
Can veeners/crowns prevent the relapse of an open bite? Considering they are from hard materials so they can't move again? Thank you, keep up the great work!
Great info! Wondering if you have a video about missing teeth? My daughter is missing both of her laterals. The dentist told me that when she’s old enough she’ll need braces to close up her spaces and/or some fake teeth put in. I’d love to know more about that!
It depends on other teeth sizes and bite. But you could look into canine subsitution, implants, and/or veneers. I am also missing laterals. Every case is different and every ortho has different opinions on it. Find one that is flexible with options and fully explains your choices. Digital imaging/planning ahead to see each option would be beneficial, if available.
Hi Doctor can I have a question? After the braces treatment how long to wait before I can get veneers and should I worry about relapse? Should I wear retainers while having veneers? Thanks
Definitely need braces -> whitening -> veneers. My bottom front teeth are short & thin so they don't touch my top front teeth when I bite. 🙄 Thanks for the info, Doc!
I didn’t know peg lateral was I thing, i just thought my laterals were small and wierd. currently doing invisalign and will definitely be getting veneers after
I have a huge question? Are there (safe and established) operational procedures that produce the same results of braces? Could you make a video on the topic?
My lateral incisors aren't quite peg but definitely smaller than they should be which is causing gaps between them and my canines... which is so disappointing but my ortho suggested bonding. Can you make a video showing the pros and cons of each? Thanks so much!
Great video! What about dental bonding to fix peg laterals? I know they aren't as durable as veneers yet they're quicker to make and cheaper? I'll have my braces off in about 2 months and my lateral incisors are quite short, with gaps on the sides but its not as enunciated as your example in the video. Also is it necessary to get a frenectomy after orthodontic treament? I know the frenum can cause relapse of the teeth and wouldn't it promote the permanent retainers to break? My diastema was massive and now that it's closed my fremum is quite obvious as the gingiva that was in the gap has been pushed outwards by braces and is too, also quite noticeable. Would you recommend gum contouring? So many questions haha thanks for your helpful videos
Thanks for watching & yup composite resins can work but like you said are less durable. I can't really comment on your particular case about a frenectomy but I would encourage you to talk to your orthodontist about it. Often times they really help with the final esthetics & retention!
Thank you for this! I am in my fourth tray of Invisalign’s and i have pegged laterals so i was unsure if i needed to get the veneers partiallly through the treatment or not because I’m tray 34 of 37 i have huge gaps around my pegged laterals and I was unsure if that’s when i should look into the veneers. But it sounds like i should finish through 37 and then look into veneers and then get retainers done after that with the new look of my teeth with veneers. Whew. That’s a lot to say but it makes more sense now. PLUS…it also confirmed that I should get my teeth whitened BEFORE the veneers to the whitest i can get my teeth to match correctly.
I had do my veneers but i plan to do braces now, so i need to redo my veneer again after i done my braces😥 there's something call Invisalign which will not affect the veneer and u can correct your teeth at the same time, but it quite expensive. So i dun know what should i do
can you make a video talking about the bites ; deep bite / cross bite? i only see overjet / overbite when 'searching' your videos..... change the title / descriptions plz
My question is after getting orthodontic treatment & using retainers but if I decided to get veneers orthodontist usually tell you to wear the retainer for the rest of your life to prevent the teeth from shifting.Would the teeth still shift after getting the veneers
If I’ve finished aligner treatment, but still have to wear my retainers, how would I go about getting veneers for my peg laterals? Or what should the process be?
You should make a “day in the life of an orthodontist” video
I've really been thinking about doing that! I definitely can do that =]

Hey Dr. Greg! Do the veneers overtime need to be maintained? Won't it cost more money in the long run when you have to maintain and up keep them? And at what age is too young for veneers? Are there other options instead of veneers for the peg lateral incisors?
Probably a silly question but can you get a veneer to fill a dark triangle with a permanent retainer already attached?
The plastic prevents you from being able to bite down all the way
Can veeners/crowns prevent the relapse of an open bite?
Thanks Doc! So many info tht i have from your awesome channel 🔥 its going on fayyahhh 🔥🔥🔥 keep doing this doc! 🙏🏼
Thank you so much !
How long is it recommended to wait between taking off the braces and putting on veneers? Is it 1-2 months after the teeth settle?
Hi Doctor can I have a question? After the braces treatment how long to wait before I can get veneers and should I worry about relapse? Should I wear retainers while having veneers? Thanks
So what would be the case of a missing peg lateral? Is implants the best option ?
generally but again depends on the case. Best to meet with an orthodontist so you all can come up with a plan for your case !
How about crowns as opposed to veneers for the peg laterals?
i just got my braces off and i hate the way they can out.there is still spacing and now they’re telling me it’s my fault.
Definitely need braces -> whitening -> veneers. My bottom front teeth are short & thin so they don't touch my top front teeth when I bite. 🙄 Thanks for the info, Doc!
needed this video thank u so helpful! 💗
I didn’t know peg lateral was I thing, i just thought my laterals were small and wierd. currently doing invisalign and will definitely be getting veneers after
Literally what I’m going through right now!! My ortho said my peg laterals are too small to close my gaps so he recommended veneers
How would you fix the dental arch on the upper teeth thats shifted caused by a tooth being moved into the correct position ?
How will fillings look with teeth whitening? Will they stand out?
I wish u could make more videos about Damon braces I have Damon braces but I still want to know the difference between the different types of braces
Love your uploads.
I have a peg lateral on the right
So informative! Thank you for this video
I had do my veneers but i plan to do braces now, so i need to redo my veneer again after i done my braces😥 there's something call Invisalign which will not affect the veneer and u can correct your teeth at the same time, but it quite expensive. So i dun know what should i do
I recommend seeing an orthodontist and asking him/her for all the options you have available
I have brace currently and my question is, why do you guys put braces on teeth that already generally look straight?
We use all the teeth as anchors to correct the non-straight teeth. Also we need more anchorage for rubber band wear
Hello. Did you need to move his peg laterals up vertically with the brace ?
Can you do a video on composite resin?
Sure!
Yay thanks!!!!
That's definitely my case. I'm trying to get cosmetic bonding instead of veneers because of the cost.
What’s the best toothpaste to use for braces ?
I recommend fluoridated Crest - check the description of the video for the link to my recommended hygiene products
I get braces next week, do you have any advice or tips for what to do for the first few days?
100th liker. Your videos are amazing and so informative 💗
Woohoo! Haha thank you so much =] ! Glad you enjoyed it
Tks Dr Gerg. VERY informative.
Hi doc. Can you make a video between veneer and crowns related to this video please.
Definitely ! =]
can you also post a video about removing brackets and the composite on it?
Yeah I plan on doing this soon!
can you make a video talking about the bites ; deep bite / cross bite? i only see overjet / overbite when 'searching' your videos..... change the title / descriptions plz
Do you know doctor Greg lamanski
What's the problem with have these two spots with spaces?
Hey doc what of in cases where the lateral incisor are missing how are veneers after braces used to treat that instead of crowns
My question is after getting orthodontic treatment & using retainers but if I decided to get veneers orthodontist usually tell you to wear the retainer for the rest of your life to prevent the teeth from shifting.Would the teeth still shift after getting the veneers
I have a peg lateral that will be removed so I can get a cantilever bridge to cover the space after my braces are done!!
If I’ve finished aligner treatment, but still have to wear my retainers, how would I go about getting veneers for my peg laterals? Or what should the process be?
