    This is my new James Bond themed ride following the Moonraker movie. Explore the canals of Venice and fight off the thugs from Drax Industries. Then fly to Brazil, narrowly escaping as your plane catches fire and crashes. Follow the Amazon river to Drax's secret base where he is launching Moonraker shuttles. Soar into space and help the US marines take over Drax's space station and finally destroy the Drax satellites.

    It's impossible to express how much pleasure this gave me. The pacing, the music, the architecture... all right on. I was sure nothing was going to surpass the Amazon hang-gliding section until the amazing use of space and separation to tell the story of the outer-space shuttle battle. Thank you very much for your patience and artistry.

      Thanks - Yes - I was happiest with the way that section turned out from a "coaster" perspective. I'm not that good at actual coaster building and the rest of the ride (even the space part) had to be tuned to tell the story and ensure you could properly view the scenery. This was the only part where I felt like I could do a real "coaster" section.

      Thanks - I'm now pretty sick of the Movie. I built this ride by going slowly through the movie ( I bought it a long time ago) and watching scenes while taking about 5 screen shots of key angles at a time. Then I'd put planet coaster in a window so I could see the movie shot and compare to what I was building in planet coaster.

    Other than the random LSM boosts then instantly slowing down in the water bit 100/10 would ride again XD

    • @BradHamiltonVideo
      @BradHamiltonVideo  7 лет назад

      Thanks - That is a fair comment on the random LSM boosts/breaks. I wanted to produce the effect of a boat quickly accelerating such as happens in some shots in the movie, but the problem is I couldn't then make a tight turn without slowing down or banking the corner severely. When I banked the corner more than about 15%, the rider's feet (or even body) would end up dragging into the water, which I didn't think was very realistic, so I went for the braking (otherwise you get terrible horizontal G-force around the corner). That being said, I went back and removed some of this by backing off on the acceleration (removing the need to break) in the latter part of the amazon area - I just never got back to tweaking the earlier areas.

  • @paulw858
    @paulw858 7 лет назад +10

    Terrible, just terrible. You didn't even add in the most important thing from Moonraker: the bird doing a double-take during that scene in Italy! (I think it was Italy).
    Really though, excellent job. You should be very proud of this work. How long did it take you to create?

    • @BradHamiltonVideo
      @BradHamiltonVideo  7 лет назад +6

      LOL - I know exactly what you are talking about from watching clip after clip of this movie over and over and over again for about a month and a half - Right when James bond turns the gondola into a car and drives into the main square. I actually thought about adding that, but alas there is no good animation for that in planet coaster, so oh well.
      Thanks for the compliments - It took about 80ish hours

    That was amazing - this is the first time I want VR!

    • @BradHamiltonVideo
      @BradHamiltonVideo  7 лет назад

      Thanks - Yeah - I actually started thinking about VR after building this ride. Right now the PC VR rigs are expensive ad I'm not sure how compatible they are with non-VR games. My neighbor is getting one so I'll have to ask him what you can/cannot do with it. If there is a way to get planet coaster to at least render in 3d with it (even not tracking movements) that would be great.

    • @PragmaticTornado
      @PragmaticTornado 7 лет назад

      Hmm, yeah I'd love to be able to use my Vive to experience this ride, and others like it (if there are any).

    • @BradHamiltonVideo
      @BradHamiltonVideo  7 лет назад

      My neighbor got an Oculus Rift (the prices have reduced from $800 to $400), but unfortunately, unless the game is built with VR support out of the box OR supported by 3rd party driver called VorpX (neither of which apply to Planet Coaster), you are stuck with watching games on a simulated curved screen in 2D. The effect is like watching an omnimax movie but the effective resolution stinks (not quite SD but not quite HD either). Although the resolution is 1200 lines, you are right up next to it, and much of that resolution is used up for peripheral vision. I tried watching this video on it and it was cool, but in the end, it is just a cheezy effect, and watching it on a regular monitor or TV is much clearer. The same applies to watching any normal game like Planet coaster - You are better off with a normal monitor. Its too bad as I'd really love to do VR but unless planet coaster supports it native, I'm going to have to pass... (and even then it would suffer from the resolution issue until we get 2nd gen HW - and then we'll need better graphics cards to support those...)

    • @PragmaticTornado
      @PragmaticTornado 7 лет назад

      I paid like $1000+ for my Vive. Had it for a while though, and everything in my country is expensive. Yeah, I know, but it would be cool if Planet Coaster had VR support. Can't see it ever coming though, as it would only really be "useful" when testing rides and such. Text is hard to read on the current gen headsets, which is a shame. I've still had a ton of fun with it though, and all my friends and family who has tried it has been amazed by it. When Valve, or someone better, comes out with a 4K headset, I'll probably get it. Would be much more useful with a proper resolution.
      It is pretty cool watching movies in a virtual cinema though, in VR. But again, the low resolution holds it back, along with the relative discomfort when wearing the headset (at least on the Vive). I think the future of VR is bright, considering how good the first iteration is.

    • @BradHamiltonVideo
      @BradHamiltonVideo  7 лет назад +1

      Yeah - Lets wait for the 4K :) - That will require a more powerful video card though :)

    Though I don't recall the movie in complete detail, from what you created in the ride coaster, it is beautifully done, especially the beginning Venice areas and the space station location. You must be a super fan of the movie, Brad, to spend so much time making this. BTW, there are several sections where the car is literally clipping through the tunnel wall on the left side. This is most evident in the space station. Question on the songs though. Are they free domain usage? I'd think a copyright strike from YT would happen in using them.

    • @BradHamiltonVideo
      @BradHamiltonVideo  7 лет назад

      Thanks - Shoot - I guess I made the corridor too tight RE the clipping. I'll have to QA better in the future. On the songs, RUclips flags them and monetizes my video, distributing the proceeds to the copyright holders. The copyright holders have agreed to allow usage as long as they get paid on the adds. This all happens automatically and not something I had to negotiate myself, but you cannot be sure that a specific holder of the copyright will allow this. They might instead refuse and force the video to be taken down. I figured I'd take the chance and if they refused, I'd edit out that part of the video out. I'm not an expert on this process. There are many videos on RUclips on how this works.

    • @BradHamiltonVideo
      @BradHamiltonVideo  7 лет назад

      Ha - Yes - I was totally going to do that seen per my original story-board - It would have definitely made for a cool coaster moment as well. Unfortunately, after doing the Venice section, it became clear that the ride was going to be WAY too long so I had to cut the entire Rio part of the movie and instead pretend that your plane somehow crashed over the amazon. I was also originally going to include the scene where Holly and James are under the Moonraker when it is about to take off but again that had to be cut. Even with all the cuts, the ride is still too long. The average view time of this video is about 3 minutes, which is about half the ride - I admit I don't have the patience to watch other people's rides the whole way either so I'm thinking I should try to get it shorter next time - to around 3 minutes - That presents huge challenges though for trying to tell a story and have some fun parts...

      It makes me think what else could you create if the in game tools were expanded on, I really wish there was a way to animate prop movement. some of the boats and stuff you had would move along a track, or the hand glider etc. Hopefully in times to come Planet Coaster might be able to provide that.

    • @BradHamiltonVideo
      @BradHamiltonVideo  7 лет назад

      Yes - This is exactly what I've been hoping for - The ability to take a "building" construct and animate it - or at least move it around. My top request though is to have a building tile that blocks out all light so I don't have to keep building giant mountains over everything.

    being in the left seat of four instead of one of the middle two seats kinda threw me off a bit watching the vid. Still ... Kudos for an excellent coaster creation

      Hmm - I have always just chosen the default seat. Maybe next time I'll play around with using one of the middle ones. Thanks

    Impressive! How much of the ride was created with in-game tools? Are any custom assets used?

    • @BradHamiltonVideo
      @BradHamiltonVideo  7 лет назад +1

      Thanks - Every asset in the game was created with in-game tools other than the video/image viewers (I created some of those myself and pulled clips from other sources for others) and the custom sound track. Related to "custom" though, nearly every asset in this was "custom" meaning that if you bought the game new, none of these buildings or vehicles are in it (other than the coaster). Either I built everything or downloaded it from the Steam Community which has a lot of fan-built custom assets. You can often search for what you want by keyword and find it - I posted a lot of the assets from this ride there separately. This is really an amazing creation!! My only tiny bit of criticism would be to get rid of the curbs on the paths in the beginning at the plaza, it would make things look more uniform there. Other than that it's a 10/10 creation! Keep it up :)

      I noticed that but paths are wonky. You can't just make a plaza as big as you want so you have to put paths parallel to each other - don't think you can get rid of the curbs

    • @TheRealSweedie
      @TheRealSweedie 7 лет назад

      You're right about the paths being wonky in the game, however, if the paths are on the ground (and not elevated), you can always get rid of the curbs - just unclick the option in the menu and it will work.

      Thanks - I had trouble with this. I originally built the paths slightly lower to hide the curbs but then people still put their feet directly on the path and it makes it look like they are walking through slush. I wasn't able to find a path that didn't have a small curb so had to go with the funny "nature" ones as the best compromise. Is there a way to completely get rid of that curb?

    • @BradHamiltonVideo
      @BradHamiltonVideo  7 лет назад

      Ah OK - I see - Thanks! - I had seen that option before, but it didn't seem to work. I usually dig the terrain out under my floor/plaza areas to make it easier place lights and other things, so I suspect this option didn't work because it wasn't on the "ground" - I'll consider that for the future. I appreciate the feedback.

      Brad Hamilton I hear you! at least now you know that you have that option! I hope they make an option to get rid of curbs on elevated paths too, it's stupid that you can't. Btw, congrats on the Kotaku feature!

    Dude you should submit your ideas to Disney and universal they would pay big bucks for your ideas some of your rides can be good enough for them to hire you

    This was really incredible. One of the best I have seen for sure. Can i ask how you start to do something like this? Do you make the coaster than work around that? In sections? Map it all out? Just curious, this is mind-boggling.

    • @BradHamiltonVideo
      @BradHamiltonVideo  7 лет назад

      Thanks - For movie rides like this I start by picking the sequences that would be best play out in a coaster and then figure out how I can compress them into a ride, including connections between scenes (this can be difficult for example trying to move from Venice to the Amazon, which is why I have the airplane scene). I create kind of a simple story board in a text document, and then visualize roughly how it will play out across the map in the ride. Next, I usually build vehicles and character assets as they can be challenging and can be make/break to the idea. Then, I usually create at least a the basic infrastructure for the line area. After that I start building out the ride, scene by scene according to my overall layout vision.
