    I have found that many times snoring, rather than awaking me and alerting me, just reinforces my sleep envy of my partner. While the sound itself can be annoying, most of the time the bigger annoyance is the jealous of how easy my partner falls sleep. Lately, rather than letting myself be annoyed or envious, i’m finding it helpful to just picture myself doing the same in the next couple of months as i continue exploring and release the anxiety more and more.

    This is good insight, except I disagree with your final conclusion. Yes, snoring is annoying, but it will also prevent sleep for light sleepers like myself. It's not possible to just ignore or accept it, and still get sleep. The problem is that it's not a regular sound that my brain can adjust to. For example, a ticking clock is also annoying, but it has a regular pattern and a constant volume, so my brain eventually adjusts to it. Same with a running appliance like a refrigerator, it's no problem. Snoring, barking dogs, thunder, etc. are disruptive in both volume and interval, so I can't get used to it. Deep sleepers don't have this problem, because noises don't wake them up.

      Thanks much for the support and you know, I totally agree with you. This channel is all about insomnia, and it’s impossible to contextualize for everyone out there! But as you said, disregarding insomnia someone can simply be a lighter sleeper by trait/temperament and it can lead to more wake ups than for someone with a different trait/temperament. Thanks for pointing this out 🙂

    Fear of fear is a big one for me! And the snoring thing is really about perception I think, because it has the opposite effect on me. When there's a disruptive noise like snoring or a loud vehicle, I feel reassured because I can then attribute wakefulness to something external. When the conditions are perfect and I still can't sleep, that's when all my fear and adrenaline kick in.

    Thank you, Daniel! I appreciate your insights very much and the fact that you addressed my comment. :). I'll put this into practice because sleeping in separate rooms is not an option. :)
    I just discovered you last week. By watching your videos, I have changed my mindset to such a point that I've slept well for several nights in a row! I'm embracing wakefulness. And one morning, I woke up at 4:30 AM, felt rested, so I got up. No biggie. Please keep posting! God bless.

    Here I am back on your channel again with the same issue lol. My husband can be a loud sleeper, he doesn’t snore all the time. Yet it truly annoys me to a point I started obsessing over him making even minor sounds 😅

    Hey Daniel, so I’m making progress but I’m definitely still in the yo-yo phase. My biggest problem is that when I have a bad night of sleep, my day is completely ruined. I think I mentioned in our coaching call the other week that Im house bound with CFS, so when I don’t get good sleep, my body flares up a lot and I’m on the couch all day. I know you say to keep on with your day and try to live in spite of the insomnia, but for me it’s physically impossible. I’m so worried that because of this hindrance, I won’t ever recover from insomnia because the bad sleep nights almost always produces a really hard day for my body. It’s also making it extremely hard to recover from the CFS therefore creating more pressure to sleep well. Do you have any insight on this?

      Hi Hannah, so glad things are getting a bit easier and you know, ever single person you see in the success stories feared their circumstances would keep them from abandoning the struggle… but it was never the case. Rooting for you

    Daniel, do you have a video about this but couples going to bed at the same time? My husband is a shift worker, and goes to bed later than me typically. Our sleep schedules are different. Every time he comes to bed, it wakes me up. Maybe it’s the same idea.. when he wakes me up as he comes to bed, my fear response kicks in?

    Hi Daniel, hope you are well and thank you for your videos. I was wondering if you have any videos relating to being on medications that potentially promote wakefulness? I started ADHD medication recently and one of the side effects of those medications is trouble sleeping/insomnia. I can't tell whether it's caused by the medication, or it's just caused my knowledge that the thing I don't want to happen (insomnia) is listed on the side effects causing hyper arousal every night. Thanks!

    Hello; another question for you,
    It’s been hard for me to go to bed at different bed times even on the weekend. Even though I don’t look at the clock, I know what time a game or a show is on, and my brain still calculates and I kind of know what time it is always. I want to be able to be more flexible with my schedule, but when I go to bed later, I do tend to get anxious because I naturally wake up very early always. I know I’ve told you about this before, I would love one day to be able to sleep in when I have a bad nights sleep, but that has never happened for me I don’t believe. How can I go about all of this?

      Yes it’s quite paradoxical, when we no longer hope to sleep in… it starts happening. I’d say self kindness and living our values, doing what feels meaningful to us regardless of what the night is like, it can really help.

      Oh yes that’s common too, and of course no medical advice here, but the same principle applies, many of us have those snorts… but when we aren’t afraid of them we soon drift off

      ​@thesleepcoachschool8192 I've actually been experiencing this some too. My concern is when it keeps happening over and over and keeps waking me up. I have some success with accepting it and not being afraid but sometimes it's really frustrating. Any advice?
