    Caitlin restating the blurb about anxiety from Tales of Courage where anxiety has no story, it’s nothing 🤯 that hit me right in the gut. What a great way to think of (or outthink) anxiety. This is my biggest struggle right now - anxieties from my day bleeding into my night, causing spiraling of thoughts from whatever those are to “oh I’m not falling asleep.”

    Here because of reddit too! And so thankful for your work. After 3 weeks of insomnia, your RUclips channel and app have really helped me in so many ways, both with sleeping and in my non attachment to other outcomes. I had my first set back last night after about a month of good sleep, but my reaction to it is one of acceptance and patience knowing my brain and body are doing what they are made to do. I'm still up taking care of my 2 young kids and making good memories with them. Thank you so so much for what you have available!

    Thanks for much for all your help Daniel and for having me as a guest 😊 sorry about my crying child haha. My partner was with her but she had peak separation anxiety after getting back from our holiday!
    It wasn’t until after the intervjew that I remembered all these insane sleep efforts that I actually used to do. I think I’d just completely blocked it all away with the trauma of the insomnia.
    I felt like maybe I wasn’t a calm enough person so I started to meditate and had to start by 8:30pm in order to be relaxed enough for bed. I started reading Joe Dispenza and Eckhart Tolle because I saw learning presence and mindfulness worked for one person so I thought it would for me too. I started therapy and told my therapist I had a fight with my partner the day I didn’t sleep, so she told me I didn’t sleep because of that fight. So from that day on, I tried so hard to not argue with anyone because I was convinced the night would be awful. I became so scared of my bedroom but also scared of the couch because I didn’t enjoy leaving my bedroom if I couldn’t sleep. I couldn’t shower too late because I thought the hot water would wake me up. Also couldn’t eat dinner too late because the doctor told me a full belly could make me not sleep. It all sounds so extreme now but insomnia definitely causes weird behaviours in the hope of being able to sleep.

      Thankyou Caitlin for sharing your story, I'm pretty much at the same stage as you now and it's so nice to hear about someone who was going through the worst of it at the same time as me (last March/April). I'm fine now but when my husband sometimes offers me a melatonin gummy before bed I also get upset at him 😅 I had to laugh when you said that! Theres definitely still residual fear but it fades more every day.

      Hi Caitlin. How long have you had insomnia before you started signing up for Bedtyme? Is 1 month of insomnia too early to sign up for bedtyme?

      @@christinab2703 so great to hear you’re also on the other side☺️ The residual fear is definitely a thing hey. How I’m going to sleep does cross my mind at least once an evening but it’s not as loud and persistent as it used to be.
      Hahaha that’s funny about the melatonin!

    Caitlin, I hope people came out on their balconies a few years ago to bang pots in your honour! Thanks also for reminding me that PPTSD ( Post Partum Sleep Disturbance, just like PTSD but on steroids), should probably be added to the American DSM someday. I disagree with you however when it comes to sleep hygiene efforts. For me they were a learning opportunity, right up there with Coach Daniel’s books. NO sleep hygiene efforts would have felt to me like trying to acquire a foreign language while ignoring all those pesky little words such as ‘to’, ‘for’, ‘with’ or ‘from’.
    Coach Daniel, thank you 🙏 for providing testimonies in a variety of accents. This in itself demonstrates how universal sleep problems are and reassures me that I too can find peaceful sleep someday.

    Thank you so much for sharing.🙏🏽💜 After battling years on chronic insomnia. And receiving little professional help, then lead to a mental break down. As my health and mental health diteritated due to lack of sleep. I've now of course been put on medication (short term this time) and waiting for cbti therapy...however after watching this video I'm not sure if I want to learn more about "sleep hygeine" or sleep "conditioning" as I understand this just keeps you in the vicious circle of insomnia. I'm so glad I've found you're channel🙏🏽 and of course it's free learning which is a bonus after spending so much money on sleep products/apps/pills/remedies etc... ashame I've already hit rock bottom mentally, but as they say it's not forever. Thank you!

    I developed chronic insomnia last June after a health scare. The insomnia has been so debilitating and has completely taken over my life. I see a lot of health experts on social media say how sleep is so important for hormonal balance & to maintain a fast metabolism and how 7 hours of sleep is essential to prevent unwanted weight gain. The thing is after 2/3 months of my insomnia starting , I noticed that my face started to get rounder and I have also gained a lot of weight on my stomach and midsection even despite me eating the healthiest and exercising. I can’t help but wonder that the insomnia has messed up my hormones or thyroid (god forbid) and leading to this unexplained weight gain. This is the main belief that prevents me from falling asleep as I have been really struggling with my body image and my brain fears being awake due to this. 😣 do you have any insights pls?

    Hi doc, I have been experiencing situation like my body is so exhausted and seems like I'm sleeping but my senses are all awake, I can hear everything that's going on and all, is considered sleep paralysis? Like I kinda have to use benzo to shut it off for just a while. I also do have incontinence issue and chronic pain as well so that adds onto the problem too...

    • @lisakember567
      @lisakember567 5 месяцев назад +2

      This sounds like paradoxical insomnia rather than sleep paralysis. PI being when you think you're awake but actually in a light sleep. I first became aware of it when I wore a tracker to bed once, I checked it in the morning believing I had not slept at all but it recorded 6 hours of sleep! I have had many nights since of thinking I've had zero sleep but felt perfectly fine the next day. I think it happens when our sleep drive and hyperarousal are both high - sleep will always win but sometimes we are so hyper our brains can't make us aware of it. Hang in there, it does get better as our nervous system starts to calm.

    How do you try to fall asleep without trying so hard that it becomes an effort?

    • @Nehakaur2000
      @Nehakaur2000 5 месяцев назад

      Literally this. I have forgotten how to sleep. Everytime I now try to fall asleep, I am calm& try to not pay attention to my thoughts and I still struggle. Starting having sleepless nights too. Some nights my thoughts spiral- I just try observe them but still can’t sleep. It’s so annoying.

    • @Caitlin317
      @Caitlin317 5 месяцев назад +2

      If I find myself trying to force sleep and getting frustrated with wakefulness, I sit up in bed and just mentally go through all the things that could possibly be making me anxious or hyperaroused, acknowledge them as just thoughts that I can’t control and that there’s no story and then lay back down. It almost works as a little reset for my brain and I find myself yawning and drifting off to sleep. Obviously you can’t force sleep and sleep comes with effortlessness but I find a less busy mind certainly helps.

      @@Caitlin317 how did it go getting off medication? What was your first night like?

    • @Caitlin317
      @Caitlin317 5 месяцев назад +2

      It actually was ok! It was no different to any of the other nights while on the medication because it wasn’t helping anyways. I thought “well what’s the worst that can happen if I don’t take it? I’m already not sleeping”. Even when I have a night now where I have trouble falling asleep, I don’t reach for any sleeping tablets 😊
