One more tip; I put some CPDs in one two days ago and hadnt had any eggs, they never seemed to go up to the subwassertang and stayed on the open side. I just made some erratic hand movements on that side and scared them into the moss and then a few hours later there was eggs. Sometimes they need to be scared into the breeding material 😂
Just a tip, This is because they search for plant mass on the substrate to spawn in, it's just unusual to them to look up for plants to spawn in and they usually won't. If breeding right you should never have to scare them in... The eggs really don't tend to settle as you would think they do either. Most get caught up in Subwassertang and don't fall to the bottom without a good stir up. I recommend just a base of Subwassertang or moss of your choice (plastic plants work too) with the top water available for swimming and daily hand removal of eggs 30 minutes after lights on in the morning. I get up to 150 eggs a day with this method and 4 females to 2 male ratio in a 70L bare tank using a tub for the moss I can remove each morning.
What could be a reason why all of the sudden they stop breeding ? I was getting over 20 eggs a day and up to 50 at times. Now I’m lucky if I get 4 eggs in a week !
Amazing timing mate....we literally just added a dozen CPDs to one of Jack’s aquariums....it’s a brand new project we are working on.....they are tiny but after a few months we’ll have to give it a go....thanks!!!!
I answered my own question. I did research on this and a airstone in a submerged tube will force water above the water line, so you can pipe the water to go into the breeder hang-on and then just be sure there's an appropriate outlet for the overflow. Simple. There's videos on how to do that
Welp I’m trying this method now. Unfortunately I don’t have the ledge that you have made but I have a heap of Java moss in one side of the large breeder box and we’ll see what happens? I put two very plump fat females in the box and one glowing male!
Still waiting. I think they are still just a tad early. Man they look so ready! They go in and out of the moss in the cup and chase all around the ladies look plump and ready to go! I’m hoping any day now.
Will this work for kubatai rasbora? I can't seem to find any information online for breeding them other than if conditions are right they will breed freely lol.
@@BlakesAquatics they were on sale in October but I didn’t have a rim on my two tanks. Of course A month later I’m able to use it after not being able to for a year or two. Of course this was a month AFTER they had a huge sale on them and they were $5 or so dollars. Curses!
Went and bought this setup today after seeing your video, thanks for the idea!! One question though, how long can I keep the adult CPD's in the breeding tank, I have 5 in there at the moment
Blake's Aquatics wow awesome definitely need more around. do you have a page or something where you advertise so I can see when they are available and contact you?
Hey mate, great video, I'd love to see a video on any neolamprologus you might have, and hear your take on them and the methods you implement to breed them (if you breed them)
@@glenn3762 i have 6 tanks full of juvies and 3 breeder boxes of 1 / 3 / 10 day old fry as well. 3d printed a device to suck the eggs through to a collection chamber which is very successful
@@BlakesAquatics Well in that case... my LFS said they were needing someone to breed them, and they just got some in, so I might give it a go. Is 5 or 6 enough for a breeding group? And if so, could I do that in a 5 gallon tank? My only tank that isn't 5g is a 29 with a pH below 6. I've successfully bred apistos, bristlenoses and endlers in that tank, so maybe I could use that water?
@@BlakesAquatics I meant using the method you did, with the box attached to the 29 gal. Would I be able to keep them in the 5 gallon for good, with shrimp and maybe clown killies? Or too small.

all the best with it, they are awesome fish :)
That's a great method there. Will have to try it.
Wow. That's about as easy as you get. I don't see these rigs in my LFS or the chains. I'm doing amano babies in a 5g salt tank now.
You've convinced me to try breed these guys haha
G’day brother I got to stop watching you I can see one of my big tanks going full planted community tank.
Top way to do it bro
Did it happen yet?
Love this, I know what I'm doing after work, I have one of those boxes thanks to Monica
I love how set these up. I may have to try this next time I breed mine.
Always loved these fish. I like your method. ✌️💞
Superb
Where you buy that breeding box. Or name of the brand please. Thank you.
The hang on one? Aquamanta is the brand but if you search hang on breeder box theres a tonne of brands and im yet to find one that doesnt fit
The link don't work. How do I order that hang-on thing? What's it called/etc? Thanks.

What brand/model is this box? It seems perfect. .
The breeder boxes available here in the States look a lot smaller. I would also be interested in finding out what brand you are using.
Mine are aqua manta brand but i think they are all from the same factory, typically 3 different sizes

Hi great video ... I have a pair of rasbora galaxy I'm going to try breed thank you for the tips
Great video and information I'm breeding these beautiful fish!! Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a great day!
Thats awesome! Didnt think it was that easy for CPD's , I want to school hundreds of them :P
You need to update this with your latest version Blake. I'm thinking of doing a quick one myself with my softdrink bottle version
so true! and yes you definitely should, people would love your creative ideas if you started uploading them
Great video , I am going to try and breed them this way now.
Awesome vid mate, nice easy method. Cheers for sharing.
You are doing well, you are going to hate going back to the 9-5 grind aren't ya Blake
100% 😂
Will this work for kubatai rasbora? I can't seem to find any information online for breeding them other than if conditions are right they will breed freely lol.
I think those rasboras may spawn in a spawning mop instead. Never kept them though sorry
I’ve got 3 CPD fry this week ....hoping a lot more if the 50 eggs hatch but I can’t see the eggs in fry net
They will hang on the walls at the start then one day may surprise you, so hard to see them early days 👍
Cool video Blake!
So these fish eggs don't stick to plants?
Correct
Thanks for the video! What are the two plants you are using? Java Moss & ????
Subwassertang. Common name is freshwater seaweed
Love that breeder box. What do you feed the fry? They are extra itty bitty. I’ll go dig in your other vids to see if there’s something there.
Hey thanks, vinegar eels have done best for me, after a few days i graduate to microworms after that 😊👍
Genius 🤩🤩🤩
great info man thank you
awesome vid
Nice! I want a ton for my hex tank
Do you have soft water? What’s your water parameter
I do yep. 6.8ph out of the tap 0 kh 0 gh
Curses they are like $15 and $10 to get the fluval hang on breeder boxes.
Yeah unfortunately

Awesome advice Sir
Thank you for sharing 👍👍👍👍
Do you have any advice on breed neon tetras or black skirt tetras?
Neon tetra eggs require very low ph and are light sensitive, so use peat moss.
Black skirt i dont know

Thank you Sir 👍
Nice vid 👍n congrats on 1500 sub
Thank you 😊
What do you do to condition them for breeding
I feed lots of live baby brine shrimp, microworms, frozen brine shrimp and things like that.
cool trick blake beats the heck of the marble trick
Loving your channel blake
Thanks 😊
That outro tune is grooving!
Thanks Ian I love it 👍
what do you feed them?
I feed mine baby brine shrimp, flakes, micro pellets, they arent fussy in my experience just have small mouths
Neat ! Got to find or make that kind of boxes now.
Went and bought this setup today after seeing your video, thanks for the idea!!
One question though, how long can I keep the adult CPD's in the breeding tank, I have 5 in there at the moment
I kept it to under 3 or 4 days, seemed to stress them out after thay
What what conditions please?
22 to 26c and ph 6.5 to 7.5 👍
@@BlakesAquatics wide range think I'll give it a go given the cost 👍
Awesome tip! Do you sell the CPD’s mate? Have only seen on a couple of websites interstate.
i will be eventually mate, have about 200 or so juvis at the moment.

I just sporadically post on gumtree mate but i know theres a lot of interest in them
Blake's Aquatics I’ll keep an eye out. Cheers
Nice, thanks Blake!
Hi, one question: what are your water parameters (ph, gh, etc)
ph 6.8 gh 0 temp 24c
I need more info. How are you triggering the spawn? Moving them to a breeder box doesn’t make them spawn for me
Feed good live foods like baby brine shrimp and have nice clean water, they spawn every morning for me
do you need a ph condition or something else for the fish to spawn and what is the ph you are giving the fish to spawn ?
I dont, my ph is 6.8 naturally
Does the water get too cold compared to the main tank for the eggs to hatch?
Nah not at all it flows through so its all warm
Awesome Blake!! Where did you get the breeding box?? Cheers
Just from my lfs, they do come up on ebay and amazon occassionally 👍
Great video Blake, I love those breeding hatcheries, thanks for sharing mate
Thanks yeah theyre awesome

Hey Zak, I dont keep any african cichlids except Kribs at the moment :). Never kept neos so cant help sorry, maybe in the future
Can you ship me 50cpd?
No sorry
First 🔫
Also currently unboxing my bettas from the bettas Mng competition

What water temps and parameters for breeding?
22 - 26c, 73-79°F. The preferred pH is between 6.5 and 7.5.
Where can I get those breeder boxes
Depending on where you are in the world usually ebay or amazon, theres an amazon link in my description 👍
where this buy the breeder box?
Try ebay
Don't you find that's stressful for the fish with a risk of inducing disease? How long do you leave them in there for?
2 days maximum. I havent found it to have any negative impact but i have since refined my method to a less intrusive way of harvesting the eggs
@@BlakesAquatics yep improvement on the old moss cup and so on helps, I collect about 50 eggs a day atm.
