Ik what you mean but role players are key for success with any team
As far as I know, it’s been an acceptable term since at least the 80s, even by the players themselves
Good role players don´t take it as an insult because they know their "role"
i felt similarly for a while, but it doesn't feel any better to deny the reality. They definitely fill a role within the team rather than shaping it as a whole. They can still step up, make great plays, have highlights, gain fans, all while filling their role.
