my favourite fan type concept is the Rubber-type, i think it's a real niche that could be filled with a lotta gelatinous, stretchy, and artificial-like Pokémon such as Toedscool, Lickitung, Tangela, Ditto, Mega Mewtwo X, and moves like Power Whip, Wrap, Constrict, Slam, Minimize, Barrage, Wring Out, Bounce . . .

I'd always come to a sound type would either be immune to itself or weak to itself due to two matching sound frequency would cancel each other out, and also have a special relationship with electric as sound can be converted to digital signal and vise versa so both immune to each other or weak

while i do think the idea of a Sound type is interesting, i don't think it's needed. i would rather see Game Freak further balance out the existing 18 types instead of trying to balance the chart by making a 19th type.

    Sound Type can work:
Hyper Voice and Boom Burst can stay normal but Sound type substitutes that are a little weaker can be made.
Sound is loud noises, vibration, dancing, rhythm, music, celebrations, screaming, whispers, subsonic, frequencies - so get creative and make some moves. And other media like Ben10 and Naruto.
Super Effective: Ghost, Psychic, Fairy, Psychic, Water
Resisted By: Grass, Ground, Dark, Ice
    Resists: Fairy, Water, Fight, Flying
    Weakness: Dragon, Electric, Ghost, Bug

Sound type is genuinely one of the worst concepts for a type because it's already a sub type so it's equivalent in worth to the other sub types becoming types... for example punch type, bite type, slash type, wind type, dance type, powder type, and of course ball/bomb type. If all of those becoming types sounds ridiculous you should also think the same about sound.

Pokemon who should get the sound type:
    Whismur, Loudred, Exploud - Sound
    Igglybuff, Jigglypuff,Wigglytuff - Sound/Fairy
    Meloetta - Sound/Psychic & Sound/Fight
    Sandshrew, Sandslash - Ground/Sound
Ekans, Arbok, Koffing, Weezing - Poison/Sound
    Voltorb, Electrode - Electric/Sound

    Petili, Liligant - Grass/Sound
    Bellossom - Grass/Sound
    poltoed - Water/Sound
    Goldeen, Seaking - Water/Sound
    Misdreavus, Mismagius - Ghost/Sound
    Kricketot, Kricketune - Bug/Sound
    Chatot - Sound/Flying
    Rotom Boom Box - Electric/Sound
    Litleo, Pyroar - Fire/Sound
*If 3 type pokemon were ever allowed Noibat & Noivern would be Flying/Dragon/Sound. But since that is unlikely, substitute Frisk or Infiltrator for Punk Rock or Rythm Mixer.
Ability: Subwoofer - boosts sound type moves in a pinch

Punk Rock - boosts sound type & sound based moves and reduces damage from those moves

Pokemon doesn't need the Sound type. Its already a sub type (Like Light is a sub type for Fairy).
For the Pokemon you mentioned, there lies a problem in with some
Lets start with Jigglypuff - It already got a type added to it with Fairy... if they wanted to have it full Fairy type, they would have taken Normal away. Due to it already getting the Fairy type added, i doubt its gonna get the Sound type as well
Rillaboom and Primarina - For marketing but also gameplay purposes, they wouldn't get the Sound type either.
Meloetta is in the same boat - its a mythical, so its unlikely to get the Sound type added
Galarian Zigzagoon is a regional form, so it makes no sense for it get the Sound type
Jangmo-o is unlikely too, not only because its a psuedo, but because Kommo-o's design points it towards it being a Tribal Warrior (Hence the Fighting type).
Then we have Toxtricity. Its localization name doesn't make sense anymore if it gets Sound type and loses either Poison or Electric, since Toxtricity literally means Toxic Electricity.
There is also the thing that looking at the moves, only the damage dealing Sound moves make sense for converting, but there instantly lies the problem as well... like i mentioned with Jigglypuff, i would lose that STAB. Another problem is the Ate abilities. There is also the thing - Which Pokemon qualifies for Sound type Pokemon and which one do not, considering every Pokemon makes a Sound.
Looking at Fairy, it would be very hard to come up with Sound based Physical moves.

  • @MrReset94

I'm so annoyed by the Sound type takes...Air should replace Flying and be a Type, it would be both about wind AND sound (since sound is the vibration of air), most of the flying moves that relate to the action of flying are going to be Normal type and all the wind and sound based moves that are not specific to another type, would become Air type. Air would be supereffective against rock, fire, fighting, and there could be arguments for normal and/or dragon, while it would be weak against ice, steel, psychic and water. Ground would be ineffective against it, then fire and electric would be supereffective against it. The rest just have a normal interaction.
This is my idea, what I'd prefer to the Sound type.

  • @glitteringgabriel
    @glitteringgabriel 3 месяца назад +1

Meh, sound type is not too specific, it's too general. Everything makes sound. Also, sound based moves is already an existing mechanic and many sound based moves already have obvious elemental types, like overdrive and sparkling aria. It should stay as it is. I like the idea of cosmic/astral type better, since we already have so many space based pokemon that got the psychic type slapped on them just because

About the roster of Pokemon changed to Sound-Type you showed, I think Toxtricity (both forms) would be better suited to have a new signature ability that basically gives them STAB on Sound-Type moves, similar to Steelworker, bcs I don't see how it would work to remove either Poison or Electric from them.

I do think sound is a bit specific so i actually had a better idea myself in the past, a Signal type, combining sound with other niche and specific fan types, space and digital, making it more of a transmission of data type, which sound falls inline well with, but can also include more Pokemon like Beeheehem and the Porygon line, as well as many other space-alieny pokemon, overall just more wiggle room and fantastical elements in order to give it a really cool type triangle that’ll also help with balancing, being immune to and super effective against fairy, and weak to and have no effect on dragons, with the lore behind it being able to overpower weaker fairy magic, but be drowned out by the dragon types affinity for having more infinity energy than the average pokemon

Weak to: Bug, Poison, and Psychic

I was in the camp of making Sound into a new type. Nowadays, I think sound-based moves should remain a sub-type. I think that the best time to add a Sound type was Gen 3. The Whismur line and Chimecho were introduced in Gen 3, and there were at least 5 Pokémon that could've become part Sound type.
The first thing to consider is how a Sound type would fit into the currently-existing type chart. When considering the potential strengths, weaknesses, and immunities, you have to take into account the abilities Punk Rock, Liquid Voice, and most importantly Soundproof. If you made the Sound type immune to Sound-type attacks, Soundproof would become useless.
One of the next things they'd have to contemplate are the Pokémon themselves. Not only would they have to decide which if any of the currently-existing Pokémon should gain the Sound typing, they'd have to keep the Sound type in mind when designing new Pokémon for however long this franchise goes on. They'd probably have to create 5-30 concepts for Sound-type Pokémon for each generation and/or game. Granted, that's just speculation, but I digress.
Below is a list of Pokémon that I think could become either a pure Sound type or part Sound type.
    Igglybuff line(Normal/Fairy into Sound/Fairy), Politoed(Water/Sound), Misdreavus & Mismagius(Ghost/Sound), Galarian Zigzagoon line(Dark/Sound), Whismur line(Normal to Sound), Chingling & Chimecho(Psychic/Sound), Kricketot & Kricketune(Bug/Sound), Chatot(Sound/Flying), Audino(Normal into Sound; Mega Audino becomes Sound/Fairy), Meloetta*(Aria Form=Sound/Psychic, Pirouette Form=Sound/Fighting), Litleo & Pyroar(Fire/Sound), Grookey line(Grass/Sound), and Squawkabilly(Sound/Flying).
*Meloetta is one of several Pokémon that I think should've had its primary Normal typing changed into Fairy if Sound remains a sub-type. In the event that this gets corrected and they decide that Pokémon can have up to 3 types, I would make Meloetta be a Sound/Psychic/Fairy type in its Aria Form, while being a Sound/Fighting/Fairy type in its Pirouette Form.
Below is a list of Pokémon where I'm uncertain if they could either gain the Sound typing or only become part Sound type if they decided that Pokémon can have up to 3 types.
Mime Jr., Kantonian Mr. Mime, Lapras, Hoothoot & Noctowl, Plusle(Electric, Electric/Fairy, Electric/Sound, or Electric/Fairy/Sound), Minun(Electric, Electric/Fairy, Electric/Sound, or Electric/Fairy/Sound), Swablu & Altaria(Sound/Flying into Dragon/Flying/Sound; Mega Altaria becomes Dragon/Fairy/Sound), Bronzor & Bronzong, Woobat & Swoobat, Tympole line, Helioptile & Heliolisk, Noibat & Noivern, Popplio line, Drampa, Jangmo-o line, Toxel & Toxtricity, Galarian Mr. Mime, Mr. Rime, Fuecoco line, Scream Tail, and Flutter Mane.
The last thing that I can think of in regards to introducing Sound as an official type are the moves. There are currently 33 sound-based moves, not counting the status move Shadow Panic from "Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness". 14 of the 33 are status moves, while the remaining 19 are special attacks. There are no sound-based moves that are physical attacks. One of the reasons certain types were approved was that they could design moves for each of the 3 categories: physical, special, and status. Could they create 1-5 physical, Sound-type attacks while making sure that you couldn't argue that they could just as easily be special attacks?
Of all of the 33 sound-based moves, 17 are currently Normal-type moves. 10 of those are status moves, while 7 are special attacks. Of all of the Normal-type special attacks, there exists 29 overall.
The following are the moves that are not sound-based but are either Z-Moves, Dynamax moves, Terastal moves, signature moves, and/or moves that can have their typing changed depending on the circumstances: Tera Blast, Tera Starstorm, Terrain Pulse, Weather Ball, Hidden Power, Revelation Dance, Judgment, Breakneck Blitz, Max Strike, G-Max Gold Rush, G-Max Cuddle, G-Max Replenish, Techno Blast, Relic Song, and Blood Moon.
The only remaining, Normal-type special attacks that are not sound-based moves, signature moves, or moves dependent on certain battle mechanics(Z-Moves, Dynamax, and Terastalization) are: Swift, Terrain Pulse(only when there is no terrain in effect), Weather Ball(only when there is no weather in effect), Tri Attack, Hyper Beam, Trump Card, Razor Wind, Spit Up, and Sonic Boom(yes, this does not count as a sound-based move).
If they were to change all of the sound-based moves that are currently Normal type into the Sound type, any Pokémon(regular or Mega) with the abilities Pixilate, Refrigerate, Aerilate, and Galvanize would lose access to some really good moves, especially Hyper Voice. They would need to create 1-5 new, Normal-type special attacks that preferably have a base power of 60 or higher that could replace Round, Echoed Voice, and especially Hyper Voice in order for them to be used by the likes of(for example) Pixilate Sylveon and Mega Gardevoir.
What happens to the 16 sound-based moves that aren't Normal type? Do they remain their current typing, or do they become Sound-type moves? If Bug Buzz became a Sound-type attack, Pokémon like Volcarona would lose a powerful, Bug-type special attack, which would need to be addressed by bringing back Signal Beam. If they didn't make it so that Pokémon could have up to 3 types all while turning Sparkling Aria and Torch Song into Sound-type attacks, this would potentially impact Primarina and Skeledirge if they didn't have their typing changed into Water/Sound and Fire/Sound respectively. Additionally, if those two had their typing changed, Primarina would lose STAB on Fairy-type moves, while Skeledirge would lose STAB on Ghost-type moves. Water/Fairy makes sense for Primarina, and Fire/Ghost makes sense for Skeledirge. The same would apply to Kommo-o and Toxtricity with their current typing and signature moves.
If there's anything else to take into account for this topic, I can't think of it as of posting this comment.

I think if there was to be a Sound Type then it would need to be another Hyper Offense Type with 5 Types it’s Super Effective against. The 3 that you mentioned (Psychic, Water, and Steel) are fine but I’d also add Fighting and Normal since loud Sounds don’t just disrupt mental processes it also can do Physical damage. There would absolutely be a Sound version of Psyshock where it uses Special Attack but does Physical damage. This also has the positive effect of adding another weakness to the Normal type…

I know the sound type is a fan favorite for a potential new type, but it will just bring chaos to the game, lol. For example, will the sound based moves change into sound type then? Like Hyper voice is normal but snarl is dark. bug buzz is bug and torch song is fire, and so on and they all make sense with their original typing already. Its almost as if every type could make a sound based move, so adding a new sound typing is just unnecessary at this point. but i get why fans like it tho

There were 15 sound-based moves that existed within the Gen 4 games, with the newest ones at that time being Bug Buzz and Chatter.
However, I would've picked Gen 3 as the best time to introduce a Sound type. The Whismur line and Chimecho were introduced in Gen 3. The Sound type would've needed to keep in mind the Soundproof ability, which was the Whismur line's only ability at the time. It would be redundant to make Sound-type Pokémon immune to Sound-type attacks. There were 13 sound-based moves that existed within the Gen 3 games, with the newest ones at that time being Uproar, Hyper Voice, Howl, Grasswhistle, and Metal Sound.

Personally, I think our last chance at getting a Sound type was Gen 3, *maybe* 4.
Sound-based moves and Pokémon have gotten way too varied to simply retype them all to Sound.
You can't get rid of Bug Buzz's Bug type or Torch Song's Fire type, and you can't replace Primarina's Water/Fairy type or Toxtricity's Electric/Poison type.
The only thing a Sound type would do now is homogenize everything that has a focus on sound, which would just make the game worse imo. If it'd been introduced in Gen 3 and everything from then on were designed around it, sure, but it's FAR too late now.
(Not to mention, how would physical Sound-type moves even *begin* to work?)
