I remember this game I played a fucking long time ago, you controlled a crew of a B-17 in bombing runs all over Western Europe, it was one of the first WW2 games I played.

You might be misremembering slightly! The Base Game has the Lanc which does the bombing campaign of Western Europe. The Fort is in the USAAF DLC and take places over the course of the Africa/Italy bombing campaign.
The Fort is really cool though, more crew to manage.
