Love this! One day quite a few years back when WBCN in Boston was still around, (crying now), the great Mark Parenteau played this song. Then he came on laughing and announced: "Hey, We just got a complaint! Some lady called and said this song is dirty. We've been playing the Lemon Song on BCN for 20 years and NOW someone complains?" That was when radio was still great! Rock on friends.
God bless the Crowes for carrying the torch for bands like Zeppelin and Humble Pie into today's musical hemisphere. This is just an absolute collector's item for any rocker who wants to hear what it was it was like during the 70's. The true GOLDEN AGE of rock and roll. All hail the TUBE and rock on.
I had no idea this existed until I heard Howard Stern on3/14/16 say he was surfing RUclips and this version was on. I couldn't wait to get out of my car and hop on my computer. I am old enough to have seen Zepplin live in the early 70's at the Spectrum in Philly and the Cap Center in Landover, MD. Page is THE MAN
As far as Im concerned there is no better band, young or old, than Led Zeppelin. Simple. They are the best band with the best songs ever!! There are loads of other brilliant bands around, but none with the mystery, style, power, brilliance of LZ!!
I was at both shows at the Greek. Have the original CDs when they were released by some dot-com which since went under and later were re-released. Thanks so much for the video. I have played the CDs tons, but the visual brings back memories from when I was in the 13th row one night and the 20th the next!
BillPagano, you hit the nail right on the middle of the head! "Substance" is what separates true artists from the imposters, and being able to detect it is almost an art form itself....
Honestly, this is as close to the original as I've heard. I love Plant! but this is a great tribute. I used to listen to this in my headphones soooooooooooooo god damn loud, but hey, that's the essence of life. Live it, hear it and feel it. Rock on friends.
the bass to this song is insane.ask any bass player who's tried learning this.and when you hear jonesy playing it on the recording, hes making it all up on the spot.all improv.crazy.
hey, Page plays for Himself....we just the fortunate ones to get it, even second hand! Personally, sure, is always Great to hear hear it live "exactly" how one heard it recorded, but I promise you, I would not care if he played it different Every time, just to hear is a treat....
@thecaveofthedead brother here he was getting used to life free of heroin, hes a little weak right here but now hes still spectacular. The reunion tour he was great, Foo fighters at wembley was awesome, and in it might get loud that old soul was back in his play. its page for god's sake.
@alogghe i could not agree with you more, i am sick of people checking out covers and being like," that not how it is played." music is music man, its feeling, not notes on paper. and this video is the guy who wrote the freaking song he can way he wants, it sounds awesome
For sure they are pushing JP, but this is some of his best playing in ages! Yes, he was different all the time playing live...listen to the old bootlegs. In any given night he could totally blow it and blow your mind in the same song!!
I can play this bass solo, it's the first one I have ever learned and was my personal battlehorse for many years, if you can play this you can throw it into most things.. People dissing this version should maybe listen to it a few more times, it seems to me they are pushing Jimmi a hell of a lot to get the best out of him :)
@GODCORRUPTED love this song... i dont understand why the people say slash and hendrix are better than page... jimmy page is kick ass and the most influential guitarist alive or dead. amen
Beautiful thing about this tour was Jimmy didn't have to pick and choose what parts to play 'live' cuz he had 2 guys backin' him up, he could focus on the lead... BRILLIANT shows!
I think Chris Robinson did a fantastic job with the vocals. Robert Plant has (or should I say, "had") a very unique voice that isn't easy to replicate, nor should it be replicated. Chris has a pretty damn cool voice and I think that the haters are probably just hurt that someone besides Plant is singing this song.
If you read the history of this song (and others) recorded by Zeppelin, you will learn that they borrowed from many artists and incorporated them into one song. The Lemon Song was taken from Robert Johnson, Howlin Wolf, Arthur Mckay and Albert King. It's a combination of many different parts from different songs. It's sometimes tough to give credit to a specific individual. Led Zeppelin has always given credit to the great Bluesman of this country. They know who to thank....and they did.
Wow, this video rocks! The Black Crowes have a pretty strong tone drumer and a soulfull singer wich makes Jimmy play at his best, just like in the good old Zeppelin times. But this song is not "The Lemon Song", it is in fact "Killing Floor" with a phrase from "the lemon song" lyrics in the middle.
to 89Blues Yeah, guitar riff and solos in "Whole Lotta Love" are original and great - no doubt about it BUT Mr Robert Plant not only took the lyrics from Dixon/Waters song. It's Small Faces rendition "You Need Loving" which inspired him - his vocal, phrasing, melody line and that stop at the end "woman, you need love" it's pure Steve Marriott - check this stuff, great british 60's R&B. Robert Plant was a huge fan of these guys. Oh and Marriott was a first singer that Page wanted in his band.
i talked to disc-jockey for 102.9 WMGK and he didn't want to say anything mean about a cool band, but he said when he met the "Black Crowes" they weren't very nice people, it's a shame!
From '68 to '74, JP was the guy to beat! How many "guitarplayer of the year" years did he score #numero 1? 4 or 5? His versatility was unmatched during those years except for...maybe: Brian May, Steve Howel, and Martin Barr. I think he's responsible for starting the "macho speed lead flash" inside of blues and hard rock templates; classicaly inspired "celtic-folk material". Their core was "heavy" but they were always nudging into the : Progressive rok, funk, psuedo country and jazz genres.
I saw this show at Summerfest in 2007 and they played 3 Black Crows songs the rest of the 3 hr. show was all Led Zeppelin. SRO to the top rail of the Marcus.
It's only better based on what you take from it, which is nothing you can argue about with other people, since you aren't them! You can, however, psychologically assume that a certain type of person will like something if you tell them it is better, so it is worth it sometimes.
Be careful guys!!! Chris have a great voice and TBC are the greatest since 90s but you couldn´t ever compare anyone to Robert Plant!!!... Jimmy what a honor could feel TBC "by your side"!!!
Ive thought alot this issue and its clear to me that zeppelin breathed new life into those old songs and hardly anyone would know about those old blues guys if they hadnt been ripped off so mercilessly. think about it. they got ALOT of retro sales because of how popular rock & roll became
FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUCCCCCKKKKKKIIIINNNNNNN EEEEEHHHHHHHHHH!!!! chris...jimmy....that freakin' drummer is doin' bonham proud...man oh man.......the bass...everything just fucken rocks in this including me.......like i said man.......peace.
page still is awesome i don't care if he's 85 years old i still would go see him.
Loved your response!!! & it wasn't even Zeppelin!!! LOL!!
I have listened to the album many times and the drummer has every beat spot on especially custard pie
No guitar player puts together compilations like this. NO ONE. Jimmy is KING!
Again, Jimmy is the CENTER PIECE!!!!! He's incredible!!!
wow how cool is it to be a musician at any age and still rock the f out the house.thank god we can.
Page is THE MAN
What a kick ass song. The Crowes killed it, and Jimmy sounds great jamming with them. I wish I could have seen this in person. Thanks for posting.
It's rock and roll music, as long as it gets people moving on their feet it doesn't matter! ; )
Jimmy Page once stated in an interview that many guitarists aim for perfect technique, whereas he has always centered on the emotional aspects.
But, DAMN, he has both!
Probably the best post Led Zeppelin live performance to date. I am just in awe. Great audio quality! Thanks for posting!
I can't believe I used to hate the Black Crowes! Boy do they respect this music...I love them now.
As far as Im concerned there is no better band, young or old, than Led Zeppelin. Simple. They are the best band with the best songs ever!! There are loads of other brilliant bands around, but none with the mystery, style, power, brilliance of LZ!!
The fact that mister Page choose the Crowes as a Live band, speak for itself....this is a colaboration made in heaven....Rock on!
Thoughtful and eloquent; a fine mind.
My compliments on your education, good manners and civility.
nothing better in the world than a joint flavor lime-lemon a this zep song
I was at both shows at the Greek. Have the original CDs when they were released by some dot-com which since went under and later were re-released.
Thanks so much for the video. I have played the CDs tons, but the visual brings back memories from when I was in the 13th row one night and the 20th the next!
Love you Mr. James Patrick Page!!!! xoxo
The thing I love about this, is they stick Jimmy out there and make him put out. He seems to play the best when he is in that position.
BillPagano, you hit the nail right on the middle of the head! "Substance" is what separates true artists from the imposters, and being able to detect it is almost an art form itself....
Just makes ya realize how GREAT all these songs are....almost anyone can do em and they still sound good!
I love this. Thanks!
Holy crap.
The lead singer was excellent.
As well as the rest of the band.
Page is Page, God Bless him.
Music isn't always about being a carbon copy. Music is more about what comes out at that time. Here's to sloppiness ..I salute you!!!
Thank you for posting this, great!
Marvellous!!! Thanks for posting:)
Grandma Mary

Listen to that rythem section!!
That's damn good stuff
I've not heard a drummer nail Bonhams feel like that ever!!
Hats off Black Crowes!!
Gotta love that piano solo...
Honestly, this is as close to the original as I've heard. I love Plant! but this is a great tribute. I used to listen to this in my headphones soooooooooooooo god damn loud, but hey, that's the essence of life. Live it, hear it and feel it. Rock on friends.
Sounds so damn good! Saw them twice on this tour and it was SMOKIN'!
Rocks! Nothing but! It is extremely freaking cool!
Amazing..two legends, of course Page is another level, but we really love it....!!!!!!!!

Jimmy Page does know who is truely worthy...........and the Black Crowes are!!!
Spot on.
couldn't agree more, excellent observation
the bass to this song is insane.ask any bass player who's tried learning this.and when you hear jonesy playing it on the recording, hes making it all up on the spot.all improv.crazy.
I have seen them both in many seperate venues-but they are great!!!
hey, Page plays for Himself....we just the fortunate ones to get it, even second hand! Personally, sure, is always Great to hear hear it live "exactly" how one heard it recorded, but I promise you, I would not care if he played it different Every time, just to hear is a treat....

Wow! That is awesome, dude. Thanks!
Man, Page is actually rocking and showcasing his style of the blues, which I love. I expected him to be conservative but he actually played very well.
THAT WAS AWESOME! NEVER KNEW THIS VIDEO EXISTED!
@thecaveofthedead brother here he was getting used to life free of heroin, hes a little weak right here but now hes still spectacular. The reunion tour he was great, Foo fighters at wembley was awesome, and in it might get loud that old soul was back in his play. its page for god's sake.
why are people comparing slash to page? other than playing a les paul, they are completely different and its ridiculous to compare them.
awesome!
@alogghe i could not agree with you more, i am sick of people checking out covers and being like," that not how it is played." music is music man, its feeling, not notes on paper. and this video is the guy who wrote the freaking song he can way he wants, it sounds awesome

I think I just came!!!
They F$#@king NAILED it !!!!!!!!
Chris Robinson matches Jimmy Page Perfectly.
I think Chris Robinson did a fantastic job with the vocals. Robert Plant has (or should I say, "had") a very unique voice that isn't easy to replicate, nor should it be replicated.
Chris has a pretty damn cool voice and I think that the haters are probably just hurt that someone besides Plant is singing this song.
o good ol pagey, what a beast

Imagine the pressure playing guitar next to Jimmy!

ONLY The Black Crowes can handle Zeppelin! And I mean ONLY the Crowes! And Jimmy knew it.
From '68 to '74, JP was the guy to beat! How many "guitarplayer of the year" years did he score #numero 1? 4 or 5? Jimmy Page is BAD ASS
Be careful guys!!! Chris have a great voice and TBC are the greatest since 90s but you couldn´t ever compare anyone to Robert Plant!!!... Jimmy what a honor could feel TBC "by your side"!!!
Why is this video not on DVD somewhere where I can buy it????
Ive thought alot this issue and its clear to me that zeppelin breathed new life into those old songs and hardly anyone would know about those old blues guys if they hadnt been ripped off so mercilessly. think about it. they got ALOT of retro sales because of how popular rock & roll became
Great bass solo
