  • Episode 568. My wife gave me this 12 year old for Valentines day and I am enjoying how it is starting out. So much, I decided to compare against a long standing favourite Scotch: GlenDronach 12. Have you had both? I found them unique today and certainly enjoyed both! What are your thoughts on a favourite or best 12 year old Sherried Scotch? #glenturret #glendronach #whiskyneighbour

    Haven't had Glenturret.
GlenD 12 is still a favourite here. I agree that the newer versions aren't up to the older standard, but it's a good whisky.
    I'm also a Bunna 12 fan as a bourbon/sherry mix.
Received a great gift for Valentine's Day myself, from M...the sherried Paradigm. It's a very different beast for sure. Looking forward to seeing how it changes as time goes along, and what you're going to think of it 😁
    Happy Family Day weekend! 🥃

Hi Jon! I haven't noticed the Glenturret in Texas but I'll have to keep an eye out for it to do the same comparison. I recall when it was announced that GD12 was making the coloring and chill-filtering changes, i snagged a couple of the NCF bottles. Enjoy the holiday!

No way! We should have shot a live or something together sipping this. Would you be open to that? Similar to the Tuesday format. Each in our own place, but sipping and talking whisky. Let me know!

Jon, what a great side by side of a couple of fantastic sherried 12 year olds. I acquired a bottle of Glenturret 12 a few months ago and yet to crack it open. Glendronach 12 was always a great experience in the old days but I have not had the newer Rachel Barrie blended release. Comparatively, I have had a couple of bottles of GlenAllachie 12's and Edradour 10, both great. I just opened Edradour 10 (almost 11 yo based on the dates on the bottle) from Singatory this very weekend. It is dark, heavily sherried, oily, plum sugary dram. I will learn more Glenturret 12 when I crack it open. Cheers to the family day weekend!!

That Singatory Edradour sounds excellent! Also, yes, the Glenturret leans that way with it's sherry. I hope you enjoy when you get the chance. Cheers!

That was a very interesting comparison. Since Glendronach is one of my favorite distilleries, I am always on the side of Glendronach. The Glenturret 12 is also a very good single malt and the Tamdhu 12 would also go very well with it .
    Big like for Austria 👍

This one's just a stunner. I'm grabbing another bottle as soon as it's gone. Any bright ideas of what to do with the gorgeous empty? ;)
I love it because while it is a proper, tried and true sherried dram, the chocolate and oak counterbalance it so nicely. As you said, some bitter orange as well.
I'll add that I haven't tried a Glendronach just yet - you've got me thinking it's worth exploring if it compares this well. Cheers!

The Glenturret is a stunner. Have you had Edradour 12? That might be closer in style. The GD12 is a favourite, but less chocolate and oak. It's brighter.

@WhiskyNeighbour Funny you should ask - just grabbed a couple back-ups of the Edradour 10! It's my favorite of the lot. It has this "old world" feel for lack of a better term that I haven't found in anything else.

Good head to head Jon! I think I'll vote for Glenturret on this vs. with a small margin 😃

It was certainly darker, more resinous for me.

Your Oilers nipped my Stars in OT today ... or are you a Flames fan? 🤔 Either way, great comparison of sherry-cask malts. Glenturret 12 always sounds like Edradour 12 Caledonia to me, and your comparison here further backs that up. I'll pounce on it if it ever shows up here in Houston. Thanks for the head-to-head. Cheers!

Oilers! No Calgary fans here ... LOL! Yes, it's much closer to Edradour than GD, but a fun comparison anyway. Thanks for dropping in! Cheers!

I bought 10YO peated 2020 Maiden Release and unfortunately I didn't connect with it back then. So the bottle collects dust ever since.
Looking at the reviews maybe I should get a 12YO or give another try the one I already have.

    • @WhiskyNeighbour
      @WhiskyNeighbour  5 месяцев назад

I think bottles change if we drink them past the should and then let them rest a few months. Not everyone agrees with that, but it's how I feel. Also, this Sherry is wildly different than their peat, so it might be worth a try. Especially if you like older Sherry.
