We had this problem with social housing next to us Lovely garden kept by previous tenant who sadly passed . Bungalow left empty for over 4 months .So phoned and complained ,they tried to fob me off .I challenged them and said ,you are the landlords so are responsible for keeping garden tidy ,if I left my garden in that mess you would soon be knocking on my door ....next day they came out and mowed it .
it's fantastic to see someone in the UK doing this, as a disabled person with a large garden I know how difficult it is to try to maintain it with no help.. A massive Thank you x I'm sure the future Tenant will be made up.

They could get 2 small, 1 bed properties on there for elderly people, which would probably free up 2 family homes. The telegraph pole is pain, but could be moved. I agree with the pretty flowers and nice shrubs, but let's be real here, if the yard looked thus bad and no one did anything to make it look good and took this man to make it look this good then shrubs and flowers need to come out. So hands up for these folks that help out on mowing and cleaning up.
They’re just wildflowers that have self seeded from seeds being dropped by birds or being blown in from other surrounding gardens, they will grow again

This was such a sweet gift. I’m disabled and gardening is so painful. I struggle to do a patch of grass when it got that high, what you did was incredibly hard work!
I can almost imagine the relief of knowing that your name has come up for placement, only to be confronted by that daunting jungle! No more! And you answered my question about whether or not the estate manager knew you were gonna do that ahead of time! I sure would have liked to be a fly on the wall when those folks showed up!

It's very rare for councils in the UK to fine people for overgrown gardens especially if they are elderly or not physically able - generally they only fine those who allow shrubs and trees to block the pavement.

Some of the comments below suggest that the new tenant, possibly elderly and with limited income, may find it difficult to maintain the garden, especially if they cannot afford a lawn mower. One partial solution may be in the grasp of the council. Their waste and recycling centres receive many lawn mowers and other garden tools, often from houses that have been cleared after the death of the occupant. Would it be so very difficult to put aside such tools so that they can be given to those who have need of them? Meanwhile all credit to MG Gardens for his great work.
That looks like a rather large, luxurious yard for a council house. Of course, as you found out, that can be a double-edged sword. Nice big area for pets or kids, but also a lot of grass to maintain. Maybe the new tenants could let the neighborhood kids use it as a football pitch in exchange for them mowing it?

That is a weird property - a gate at the front but no fence on one side of it. Paths that run precisely next to the house. I'm sure the new tenants will be thrilled that it looks so good (apart from the kinda scabrous front path . . .). You did an excellent job for them!
Thanks for the PSA about cats. One of our sneaky/nosy cats will climb in anything with an open door. I try to keep her locked up when we have anyone over working on the house but she’s crafty. Some family would be heartbroken if their kitty accidentally got taken away. Great job btw!

First of these I've seen in the UK. Huge amount of work and astonishing transformation. Heartwarming to see someone with a social conscience, prepared to do something without reward for the improvement of the neighbourhood. They should be over the moon. Probably people there who have, when younger and more able, taken a pride in their gardens....so sad when they can't do it any more. Thank you for caring.....as for the council, we all know, increase the council tax and reduce the amenities....bet their salaries aren't reduced.....disgusting. That is a weird property - a gate at the front but no fence on one side of it. Paths that run precisely next to the house. I'm sure the new tenants will be thrilled that it looks so good (apart from the kinda scabrous front path . . .). You did an excellent job for them!
Thanks for the PSA about cats. One of our sneaky/nosy cats will climb in anything with an open door. I try to keep her locked up when we have anyone over working on the house but she’s crafty. Some family would be heartbroken if their kitty accidentally got taken away.

Heartwarming to see someone with a social conscience, prepared to do something without reward for the improvement of the neighbourhood. They should be over the moon. Probably people there who have, when younger and more able, taken a pride in their gardens....so sad when they can't do it any more. Thank you for caring.....as for the council, we all know, increase the council tax and reduce the amenities....bet their salaries aren't reduced.....disgusting.
